The challenge is on.

HTC Sense 3.0 should run on headsets with 1GHz with no problem, although I dont use the Sense UI because the 2.0+ Sense uses a lot of space on the screen.I guess we'll have to wait and see how the 3.0 makes a test run
I believe it will work. At least some parts of it.
There sure will be a few developers out here who will try it.
We have toe wait and see what the future will bring.
But I'm still curious how it will run on our HD2 and Desire HD's etc....
I think even though hTC have left us in the dark, the devs here will obviously port this to all devices that meet the minimum requirements. I mean the Desire, still doesnt have Sense 2.0 unless you root your device.
Looking forward to see what the talented devs can pull off.
Guess they've underestimated the power of XDA dev's ! we have devices made for win 6.5 running five different OS'es which HTC never even thought were possible. I think its time HTC woke from there dream and smell the grass
I think it will be ported over to other devices! The developers over here at XDA are great! Before the HTC HD2 got Android unofficially thanks to the developers on here, people were saying the same thing "Oh it can't be done, it will never work" and what happened....it got Android running smooth as a baby's butt! Then there was the whole Sense 2.0 can't be ported over to the HTC EVO.....guess what baby?!...IT DID! So with that said, I hope a lot of people keep on doubting the abilities of the developers over here at XDA because I believe that only gives them more motivation to get things done!
Oh and I wasn't replying to anyone specifically in this thread, I was just saying in general because I briefly talked about this with two of my buddies and YEAH they were like NO WAY....CAN'T BE DONE....and I'm sure alot of people that aren't members of XDA and/or haven't seen these developers in action, think just like that!

Just a matter of time.. So may things has already been ported for devices they were never ment for.. (eg. HTC Sense is seen running on Sony Ericsson X10 Mini)
So it will be just a matter of time for combining the right drivers with Sense 3 before we see it on Legend, Wildfire and so on...
Maybe I'm not good eniugh in English
But I don't meant to have read something about the Desire HD/Inspire
Does it work on these devices?

Personally (and I'm not a device dev), I think an extremely large problem will be the fact that if Sense 3.0 is only limited to the Sensation / Flyer / 3D, all its textures are meant for qHD / whatever the Flyer runs at.
I'm sure that's an additional task that's going to take some work, in addition to the drivers...

The flyer is only single core and is clocked at 1ghz and will be running sense 3.0. With that in mind there is no reason why it wouldn't work and we can all ways over clock if we need to.

the Mytouch 4g development crew is growing at a huge rate, and while I'm obviously happy about that, I've found that all of the new ones create ROMS based off of Cyanogenmod or AOSP ROMS. That's great! It's a wonderful starting point, but we have now gathered an extent of probably more than 5-6 AOSP ROMS that are mostly identical. So I made this thread so people can list the things they want in ROMs so developers can look at this and see what people want and will use. I'll make a list that is divided in to sections such as add-ons, ports, and anything else you'd like for me to add.
In addition, I will add links to all items on the list that are released.
Suggestions:
Device Ports:
- Droid Charge
- Dell Streak
- Sony Ericsson Device
System Ports:
- WORKING Motoblur
- Touchwiz
Add-ons:
-Easily implemented CRT screen-off animation for any ROM
-Sense items (Like contacts, dialer, and camera) working in AOSP ROMS like CM7
Developers! Here's your chance to make something unique that people want! We're counting on you!
Reserved in case this thread is actually successful.
A Motoblur Port is out already, but half of its ass is missing... TouchWiz, in your dreams maybe... Droid Charge Port would be nice. How about a Dell Streak port?
Also a Sony xperia port would be nice
I've also been looking for a fast stock aosp themed froyo Rom....haven't been successful so far ....

Alright, I've added some of the more supported ideas. I don't think I'll add them to the OP unless more than one person wants it. But once again, does anyone know of a way to have a poll in the OP?
Dell streak FTW!
I would like to see a Honeycomb themed sense 3.0/2.1 hybrid rom.....and working yahoo video..
Speaking of ROMS....if I understand AOSP correctly it is supposed to be 100% stock Android so how is there so many copies?...seems to me there should just be themes not ROM after ROM?
I would love to see Devs complete a ROM (finish all the bugs before moving on....reminds me a lot of Samsung...they spit out phones so fast they suck at support or updating)...no offense to all the work here but there is how many ROMS that are "oh so close" left for dead out there...
The liquid ROM looks pretty hot too....

Nice but what are the chances we'll get it. We're not even sure what elements from sense 3.0 we're supposed to get. Well here's hoping we least get the lockscreen.
I would actually be surprised if we didnt get it (or at least some components of it) at some point. I mean the devs here are great. We already have a number of full sense 3.0 ports that work great. Not to mention all after HTC said sense 3.0 cant run on "older" devices like the Thunderbolt

You have to understand from a manufacturer's standpoint, if it requires 'too much' (they decide what is 'too much') work to make it operate properly, they simply say "it's not supported on older devices". I mean, a glitchy GPS, for instance, just isn't acceptable on a "stock" ROM, but to people like us, running custom ROMs, we accept some tradeoffs.
Sense 3.0 has its issues on slower devices. For instance, the lockscreen not showing up to answer for some calls? Probably due to hardware limitations.

I guess i was just trying to say that the manufacturers made it seem (or at least that's how i took it) that sense 3.0 or any of its components wouldn't work on the Thunderbolt at all since it didn't have the hardware they specified. But yet we still have stuff out there that works pretty good. But I completely understand/agree with what both of you are saying
I like how the hardware requirements are removed...hmmmm

Oh boy. I see this going south. I LOVE miui because it has sms popups, themes galore, a nice dialer, and awesome support.
Sense is beautiful, has many variations, the system apps and widgets go on forever, and it really shows off what android is capable of visually. That said, it seems to take a tremendous amount of work by devs to make sense ROMs easy on the ol' battery. That, from my point of view makes them bloated. But, they can be made into fantastic daily drivers as has been shown repeatedly.
Lately I've used MIUI.

You probably think that TJ is being harsh and ruining a fun thing. But you have to take into account that redundant threads like this pollutes the site and when a noob tries to do the right thing and search for a thread he/she needs it'll be harder to find. And all he/she will do is ask the question in a thread that's been answered many times. Thus, it all just creates the circle of problems.
Powered by a G2x
I ran both.
MIUI on Nexus One, which is incapable of properly running even Sense 2.1, having no devs to completely solve everything (trackball wake) and no graphical power to move it smoothly.
Sense 3.0 on MT4G, which is capable of running it fast and smooth.
Personally, I prefer Sense - it is visually and functionally better. While MIUI fixes a lot of things that stock Android did wrong (T9 dialer, notification bar toggles, launcher - in the aspect of adding widgets, smoothness and effects), it still falls short when it comes to Email, text selection (standard Android has selection position bugs and isn't nearly as comfortable as Sense), and just overall visual experience. But MIUI is small and fast, and on older phones it counts - and it supports A LOT of phones that have no better options. So, for me, if the phone can't run Sense or TouchWiz properly - MIUI would be the next best thing to choose.
I go to miui once in a while but find myself coming back to sense 3.0/3.5 only because its just so awesome... Sense is hands down the best thing that happened to android it adds so much to android... Basic stuff like browser ,mail, contacts integration made perfect.... Sense makes android beautiful with brains but miui on the other side is definitely for lower power phones like say moto defy or something like that... Btw love both of them

Never used it, so cannot be completely sure, but:
After much poking around the apk’s it came apparent that HTC had started to use a special binary format called m10. These m10 files were new and at the time no one knew what they contained or even how to decode them. Along came Diamondback and Flemmard, between them they managed to build a decoder/ encoder for the m10 format. Once decoded they were able to resize sense 3 and the now legendary Virtuous Unity was born.
The m10 project soon developed in to a much bigger idea, why have a piece of software that is only able to modify one element of apks. So work began on implementing existing tools such as apktool, adb and more. A lot of time has been spent making sure that work flow is correct and provides the best possible user experience.
And that's where we are today, presenting you Virtuous Ten Studio.

We could but I personally don't have the time or the skill to write a whole new kernel source... As for the booting versions for the desire hd and g2, I believe the kernel is a 2.6.35.14 version, hacked to work with ics...

That's probably along the lines of whats gonna be required. I don't see HTC releasing a compatible Kernel for a device they've already determined EOL on.

The design and desire hd are both getting ics... The design has the exact same processor as shift. Once that source is released, it will definitely make things less challenging... I can add a device to a source, just happens to be extremely time consuming because it's somewhere around 5000 edits. I'll have a million errors to fix, which is even more time consuming... But the good news is that I started working on it (adding shift to 2.6.35.14 kernel modded for ics) a month or so ago, the bad news is that it still needs endless hours of work... I can't honestly say if I'll ever get it, but, i.m.o., it's definitely worth a shot...

Had someone in the doubleshot forums say them devices are only getting sense 3.5 ICS? And that sense 4 was reserved for the one series because of their camera chip or something. All HTC devices that are getting ICS excluding the one series are getting sense 3.6 which is basically sense 3.5 on ICS but with a few new things like the Rosie has 5 icons and u can change 4 of em and whatever apps are on the dock are your lockscreen shortcuts. Nothing major that I've noticed. Running it on my evo3d now. The design has an ICS leak already I can link to it if you guys want.
And don't you guys already have a hacked 2.6.35.14 kernel for ICS? On the evo3d we can boot up CM9 with the 3.0 kernel from the leak we got and before we got the 3.0 kernel we were booting up sense 4.0 with the tiamat kernel
AND you guys have working ICS roms to base it off as a start.

Doesn't work, myself and a few other devs have tried to use tiamat and it won't boot... No we don't have the hacked 2.6.35.14 kernel, I'm working on porting it but I'm getting an error about the eng hboot... The design stuff won't work until we can resize it, shift is 3.6" wvga resolution and design is 4" qhd resolution. We have already thought about and or tried all the recommendations here... It isn't going to be as easy as you think... As for sense 4.0, we should get the ROM, but it will prolly never have a fully functioning camera. Strapped is right, the one series has a new imaging chip, that's not compatable with shift...

Doesn't work, myself and a few other devs have tried to use tiamat and it won't boot... No we don't have the hacked 2.6.35.14 kernel, I'm working on porting it but I'm getting an error about the eng hboot... Our devs have already made great ROMs.
Kudos to those who've kept us busy with all the new things to flash.
ICS+Sense 4.0+4G would just be icing on the cake.

Tiamat kernel is a hacked 2.6.35.14 kernel for ICS or else it wouldn't boot CM9. Not saying its got everything it needs to boot sense 3.6 but the base is there. Chad.Goodman over at infectedrom.com (goes by kernelchef now) might be able to help with getting the kernel changes to boot sense 3.6 because he's done it on our 3D's. As for the camera chip on sense 4.0 you mentioned, the 3D doesn't have the chip and we have our camera working. Joelz was working on a sense 3.6 port before we got our leak so he could probably share some knowledge about it. I think he was the one that got the camera going on sense 4.0 also (Some refer to him as the porting god). And newtoroot has fixed like everything on his sense 4.0 ports. And as for the resizing, its been done for the shift there's kingdom ports for sense 3.0. Yea, I know this ain't easy and I'm not trying to make it seem like it is, but its been done. And I'd try and get something cooking but I don't have my shift anymore.

Chad might be a toughie but joelz is usually good about replying to PMs and he's also got a twitter. If you can't get a hold of newtoroot on here try over at themikmik
I'm just trying to help with people to talk to since I've watched the development well..develop on the 3D. I'm an ungrateful flasher when it comes to sense roms I tear anything HTC related right out and replace it with AOSP apps. Its really cool on ICS you can even replace things like the systemui with AOSP so u get the status bar and drop down and everything

I really like the Evo Shift. The fact that its probably gonna be the last Sense device for the foreseeable future that has a hardware QWERTY, Its gonna be real hard to move on from it because every Android phone I've ever owned has had 1. I'm not a fan at all of phones that don't have 1. However, not having Sense 4 really sucks considering this phone isn't really all that old. HTC/Sprint should have brought us to Sense 4. The Evo was out what A year before the Shift give or take? Its total BS the EOL is confirmed along side it.
It's really hard to port this rom because of how large sense 4.0 rom is. Over 500mb. I've tried and failed with a non boot start. Lol, I'll keep trying Hopefully I can get the rom working and everyone can enjoy!

You don't have a kernel to boot Sense 4 with so I would just stop

still no correct kernel out there? I tried porting the evo 4G one to us, then I tried the evo 3D

I imagine it is pretty hard to port a kernel. Going to try some research later and see about it....
