Replacement backplates?

Anyone found any replacement backplates for the Galaxy S yet?
Looking for one that isn't coated in Teflon like the stock backplate. Don't really want to put it in a silicon case, I would rather cover it in skateboard grip tape, I hate silicon cases that much.

Yeah I want one that isn't quite so slippy in your hand, ordered a Zenus case, but there will be times when I want to use it out of that, and at the moment it's really easy to drop.

Brando often sells replacement housings, I'm sure it won't be long till they do the same for the sgs.

im thinking in the line of higher capacity battery with slighly thicker backplate to accomodate the thicker battery and get rid of the bump on the bottom part at the back
a thicker backplate will also recess the camera lens protecting it from scratches
i also find that the very thin profile of the galaxy s makes it difficult to hold sometimes. a thicker backplate will also make it easier to handle

Yeah it's cool how many cases you can already get for the latest iphone while for the SGS there still isn't a single decent case available in the US or Europe The Korean stuff that's a ***** to order and takes 2 weeks to get anywhere doesn't count.
I don't like Apple but sometimes they seem to be the only ones that just get really simple **** like 'hey maybe they want a case for that $600 smartphone so let's make some!' Or 'OK, we just designed our best phone ever, let's spend an extra dollar and not put a flimsy piece of plastic on the back.'
It's just so simple.

This could be a money spinner for Samsung .You want a white SGS, just buy a white back cover.Or you want a grippier phone, buy a rubberised cover.
Would be kinda cool to be able to change the look/feel without having to resort to silicon covers.

A rubberized back would be a dream. I want one now

This is an excellent idea.
Samsung has already sold more than 1M Galaxy S phones and continues to sell well.
This means that decent accessories should not be that far behind.

I'd buy the hell out of an aluminum replacement backplate for by Vibrant. 'Twould be quite sexy.

Haha, looks terrible

Yeah looks like the normal one covered in tipp-ex!

But its not the original one, because there is a round circle which has not the same height like the cover (same position where the google logo is, you see it in the first ~10secs).

I really like the shell holster combo from verizon. It has a built in kick stand, which I stick my right middle finger through and it helps balance the phone and I can use 1 hand and touch every part of the phone I need to, lol...y'all should check that 1 out.

I concur, the verizon store manager threw in one of these for me, and I really like it. I only wish it was a little less slippery.

It's nice - very bulky though. My mom has it on her Charge.

I just got the Incipio double cover case and its very nice. Its not a snap on case so if it drops it will not come apart. Its a silicone inner shell and a hard soft touch shell on the outside.

The double cover is going back, there is no cutout for the hdmi port so you cant use it with the case on.

anyone considered an otterbox defender or commuter? their charge case isnt out yet but my buddy has one on his evo 4g and its extremely rugged and includes a holster

Yeah I'm waiting for otterbox to release their Charge cases. In the meantime I'm using one of the cheap gel cases from the Verizon store, but it slips off easily so not really a long-term solution.

I bought the incipio case and while there is no opening for hdmi, a dremel will fix that

TPU Case
I'm using the Samsung Droid Charge TPU case and I must say I'm impressed. It's a semi-hard/soft case and not flimsy like other rubber cases I've had.
My TPU case fits like a glove and easy to put on and take off.

Yeah I got it and like it. The commuter has two layers, one is gel and the outer one is a thin hard plastic.
It fits the Charge like a glove. There is a big open area for the HDMI port. The usb and headphone ports have a cover that you pop up to access.

I just got ghost armor put on my phone and can't be happier. Since all I am looking for is scratch protection and not to make the phone any larger - this is the perfect setup.
I got matte on the back and sides, andthe regularclear over the screen. This is so much better of a product than the zagg shields. Not only is the materialbetter, but it is cut to perfection so every little piece of the device is covered, even the buttons.
Also, the matte back and sides drastically improves the appearance of the phone. It looks like an aluminum unibody phone, rather than cheap shiny plastic.
Awesome. Best 40 dollars you can spend on this phone.
Oh, and if you go to one of their kiosks and get it rather than ordering it online they install it fir you, and they are very, very good at it.

I just had one in my mall right in front of the apple store. Go on their website, if they don't have anything there regarding where to find a kiosk give them a call - they are good at answering their phone.
I can post pictures tomorrow, but they probably wont show.much. you really can't tell anything is on it, but the matte back and.sides makes the phone look less plasticy.

I got the Otterbox commuter, it's great as all the otterboxes i've had are. It does add some bulk, but protects the phone very well with the 2 layer design. I'm not exactly gentle with my phone so I need the extra protection.
$26 shipped from an ebay dealer.

I'd like to see a commuter in person. I don't like the TPU much, it obscures the power and volume switches too much for my liking, and the charger dislodges really easily, but I bought it for a whopping 4 bucks on Amazon.
Might grab a cheapy silicone case in the meantime.

Trident Perseus

We all know how amazing the Trident Aegis case is when it comes to protection, but some of you guys were turned off by the thickness.

How bad is the scratching on the Speck, in your opinion? Is it as horrifying as people make it up to be?

I got one coming as I type. I will post pics and let everyone know how it is. It was $12.99 on ebay.
Got mine this last Monday. Seems great, I did notice that the buttons push very easily but that's fine with me.

Its not worth the discussion. Its basically a the Aegis without the covers and the hard shell. The Aegis is by far the better choice, and not too mich bigger than the Perseus.
I bought the Perseus and Aegis at the same time, got the Perseus before the Aegis and then sold the Perseus to a friend after being much more satisfied with the Aegis. Hope this helps anyone considering Trident cases.

It looks alright. Personally I think the aegis is superior looks-wise and I'm gonna keep rocking that. Can you post pictures if and when you get this case? What's the exact difference in thickness between this and the aegis??

Well its made up of non slip silicone, so it has a nice feel to it. I would definitely feel comfortable running with it or doing any activity that would require the phone not to slip out of my hand.
Well its a little smaller than the Aegis, maybe around .15 mm. Its almost nothing. It is slightly heavier, I think because they went with a sturdier silicone on the Aegis, but I like it as my phone feels protected.
The thing that won me over was the hard shell, it makes it easier to take out of jeans (I wear jeans most of the time) than just the silicone case. The added protection is nice, as is the anti-skid feature, even though the silicone case has it as well. Hope this helps anyone considering Trident cases. The last thing that I love about the Aegis are the dust/water resistant covers. While obviously dunking your phone in water might not be the best idea, if you suddenly spill a drink near your phone, you don't have to worry about the exposed Micro USB and headphone ports. Obviously not the HDMI since it is already covered, but its nice to have it available as well.
Also, I can post pictures of the Aegis case if anyone requests it, I don't have the Perseus anymore but I might be able to compare for a brief moment.

Your description actually sold me on this case. I hate the covers on the usb port and the double coverage of the hdmi port on the aegis and that skimpy plastic backing doesn't convince me enough of the extra protection. I think the Perseus has some promise, just like the name implies. I just ordered one, I'm sure it will be better than the lg optimus 2x kickstand case I have right now (kickstand broke off many months ago).

It's just OK.. Its a plastic case that protects the back with no protection for the front. It gets a bit more slippery, but it is a perfect fit case. The kickstand is real fragile and flimsy though and loosens up after extended use. The kickstand was kinda cool though cause I would always prop my phone up and never had to lift my phone up to see whose calling.
It is an official lg case, but there are better ones out there. I think this Perseus case will be batter.

Alright, I just received the trident Perseus case, and I really like it. I've never owned the aegis, and I have only had the lg kickstand case to really compare it too. This is hands down better than any plastic case out there. All the cutouts are perfect on this case and I have not had any issues at all with usb or 3.5mm fitment. This case provides the most grip I've ever scene on any phone, on st. paddy's day I was wobbling and swaying around the streets but this phone was stuck to my hand, no drunk drops. You'd have to be in cardiac arrest for this phone to slip out of your hands. I never really like holding my handset up to my ear because it felt uncomfortable for long periods of time, but with this case on the comfort level is optimum for that talking stance. I think the only way to top this case would be for goodyear, michelin, or pirelli to develop a non slip rubber case for our phone (which ain't gonna happen).
As for protection, the four corners have the most protection, The front bottom lip is raised for a little front screen protection.. the top of the front screen protection is kinda of skimpy and the back is very firm on the top part. The different textures on the back is a nice touch for the grip on this phone and the side grips absolutely make this phone. If you know senior citizens with smartphones, you should recommend this case (Safe for ages 10 & up). Also, the speaker and mic cover are nice touches but I really don't run into many dust storms or work on a construction site so I can't comment on their effectiveness to block out any dust particles. It's definitely worth $12.99.

Case for a contractor ?

I think I'm about to inherit my wife's Nexus 4 since I'm giving her BB Z10 to try out and I need some sort of case.
I'm a contractor so I need some kind of case/pouch with clip on to my belt that would keep my phone secure.
I have Iphone 3 and use otterbox defender and I hated the case ever since I got it, bulky and looks like I'm carrying a satellite phone
Any recommendations ?

Mybat is your best bet. Its bulky, but bulky provides good protectiin

I got a seidio active today and I'm happy with it. I'm a glazier and I work new commercial buildings, etc. Its tough enough.

The Seido cases seem like the only ones I can find with good phone protection and a hard shell covering the screen, which is exactly what I want. I especially like the Convert model. I can't speak for bulkiness, but that is not a priority for me. Unfortunately they are just way too expensive; $70 for a piece of plastic....come on. I am surprised that someone has not come out with a cheap knockoff, but then again the availability of accessories for the Nexus 4 is pretty pitiful. I ordered a poorly rated Amzer case in the meantime just to have hard shell screen protection until a better case comes along.

The one thing missing the cases that are being sold by brand named companies is rubber flaps could cause covering the headphone jack and the USB port to prevent dust or humidity from getting in there. There are only two cases that have this and they are both on ebay.

I like the first one you posted, the only thing is that I'm not sure if it will support wireless charging

I'm using a ballistic case. There isn't any covers over the ports, but I've dropped it several times and no issues have come of it.
I work in a kitchen and have slammed the back of the case into stainless steel tables on accident (screen is always towards my leg) with no issues.
It also works well with the charging orb. The back of the case helps the grip of the orb.

This case does work with wireless charging on my orb. It may be a little sensitive with the height range ( the inductive ring is a little below center on the phone). It does work though and does not slide. This case really doesn't get enough credit for what it is. It's not as thick as it looks and isn't too bad with pocket lint.
That other case looks good, but I can't tell if it's a 2 piece design or just 1 piece. If it's one piece TPU I might be a little concerned with scratching up the chrome bezel with sharp corners. This case does appear to be a little too thick for wireless charging.

I didn't notice that; Is there is a hard plastic cover that protects the entire screen as part of the holster? If so, I would definitely pick one up.
Also, is the top and bottom of the phone protected as I see other cases where that is completely exposed?
Finally, I would appreciate it if you could give me the dimensions, especially the width as installed on the phone. I want to get the proper mount that has enough range to accept the width.

The case it 2.9 inches wide by 5.5 in tall by 0.65 in thick or 74 x 140 x 17 mm. And if I understand correctly the hard plastic corners do wrap around to the top and bottom slightly, but there is not exactly hard plastic in the middle of the top and bottom.
Just FYI, I messaged a seller about that second ebay case with the port covers and it's a one piece TPU so it probably isn't as nice of a fit or as shock absorbing. It also looks to be a little thicker on the back surface.

Yeah, the hard plastic only wraps around d to the front in six areas, all corners and in the middle on the sides. If you want some pictures let me know. The case is much slimmer than it appears and much less bulky then the mybat but at the same time it probably offers a little less protection because the mybat has hard plastic on the front.

Thanks tomhub389 and jlear3, I am going to order one.

I used a Seidio Active with the holster for my SGH-T989, Galaxy SII, and loved it. Add to it, while I was removing the phone from the case/skeleton I managed to break a corner off. I sent in a pic of the damage to Seidio and they sent me a brand new skeleton and soft shell at no charge with no questions asked. That's a damn good warranty if you ask me. Long story short, I have a Seidio Active on my Nexus 4 now. Also, they work with wireless charging.

The kickstand and slightly better looks are a bonus.

Otterbox Defender design problem, avoid until fixed

I suggest no one buy the Defender for the S6 until they show they have fixed the plastic housing, the holster, or both.
The housing on mine has a broken latch after only 2 weeks of use. The Defender for my old S4 last 2 years and still works fine.
The new housing has a smaller perimeter around the latching slot for the holster. Also, the holster tab is now two little nibs, as compared to a solid tab on the S4 design.
The smaller interface area combined with the thinner material on the housing caused mine to break easily. Now the phone wont stay in the holster unless I turn it around to use the unbroken side. I know that side will be breaking soon as well.
To top it off.....Otterbox's website wants me to give them a credit card so they can charge me $ 6.99 for handling the issue.
I am pretty disappointed in the new Otterbox. Am looking for an alternative since the design is poor and the return policy on such a premium product is less than "premium" in my eyes.
I purchased form Amazon. Will see what they say since I am not satisfied with paying Otterbox to look at the issue.
Still, I will need a case with holster while Amazon works on the issue.
Any suggestions for a rugged case with holster?

BTW...Amazon is shipping a replacement and return label, no cost to me.
I hope Otterbox has already corrected this......otherwise I am still shopping for a different case.

As of now.........I see no problems with the case unless you use the holster.
If you use the holster....and yours is of the same design as mine, it will fail you.
I knocked the phone out of the holster and it bounced around the pavement quite a few times the other day until I realized the problem.
Good thing the case offers good drop protection. It needed it!

That's crazy. While I understand some people won't use the holster so it wouldn't be a problem, they should still cover all charges if they want to charge their premium prices at $50-60 USD.
People might as well go for other heavy duty cases.

I agree. I didn't buy it thinking about cost.....I bought it without regard for cost. Durability was the only reason I chose it.
As I said....the one on my recently retired S4 suffered tons of abuse without failing.
I didn't even get this case warmed up.
