Xperia Neo vs Desire S - HTC Desire S

i was going to buy the Neo 100%, but then SE annouced it will be out only in june at most places... so now im looking forward to desire S.
guys what do you think ? my only con on the neo is plasticky-gloss body.. but still i can live with it cuz design pwns.
but the desire s is still more.. sleek. but its cons are:
1) locked bootloader (if i get neo i get it unbranded and the bootloader will be unlocked later on)
2) the fail with capacitive buttons not lighting up ,and im not into them anyway hardware ftw
3) the camera quality.. its just sooo bad lol. especially compared to Neo
4) the sense UI is not sticking to me.. its overdone ,i like vanilla android (or even SE's new skin lol) better
and im not looking to other devices, becuase i like phones smaller... 3,7'' screen is just perfect

mate desire s is quite cheap!
£329 O2. get it. wwhy do u think it was phone of the year? because it rocked!

just so that you know: se makes the worst hardware in the phones business
up there on par with samsungs plastics
for me the most important part is the exterior which has to endure the use
than the software part

I have the same dilemma. But since Xperia Neo will be delayed (or has limited release world wide) I have no choice but to get the Desire S which is my second option.
But honestly speaking...NEO is my first choice, even if it has less ROM/RAM than Desire S.

this
message too short

i dont really get where the hell do you get this ''se sucks at hardware'' stuff, dudes i owned 3 sony ericssons, from walkman to camera phone to P1, NONE of them broke, actually all 3 still functional. the build quality is superb, its only not metal. though my w880 is metal, true that, but all of them went through chrashes, all are fine.
metal is kind of a hype actually, good plastic is just as durable + can be easily replaced, not exatcly the thing you can do if you bend your precious unibody huh...
only the looks of that plastic suck on the new xperias, for other judgement id have to hold it in my own hands (ofc you know that pretty much 15% of all phones world wide have some factory-made faults... right?)

if i pay 500$ for a phone and i can bend it with one finger than its good enough for throwing away

and its really amazing how you found a minus in unibody
must be that you have a gift of finding sh1t in beauty

Nlt sure how much support the x10 got at xda, but it is a tradition that htc devices get all support here
(althougj this desire s forum is quite empty!!)
So take that into consideration if you like to mod your phone alot

i am not questioning beauty lol. what ever gave you that idea is beyond me ... im questioning your experience with SE build quality.
anyways, even if this isnt a high end phone, it should get some support, just look at optimus one forums even x10 got pretty darn much support.
btw im now also looking into optimus 2x, since it might be even cheaper at my retailer than desire S

Go for the desire s
I would go for the Desire S, as it feels much nicer.
Also HTC software i usually much better than SE
Look at the X10 as an exampel

yea sure compare the software that was out 1 year+ ago and totally sucked. how about you compare the NEW software ? and i hate sense. it doesnt even feel android anymore with sense lol.

Yes I do wonder how much dev support the DS will get. The Incredible S seems to be getting more attention at the moment. Personally I prefer the size and price of the DS

Next phone, Xperia Arc or Moto Atrix?

So heres the deal, Im on att and already upgraded so I will have to buy either outright, overall I'd say the Atrix bests the Arc in specs but the design of the Arc is fantastic imo and it has a better screen and im gonna assume the camera will be better, im just not sure though, also theres the question of release date and price, anyone have any ideas when these phones will come and how much on eBay? Also do you think that the Arc will make it to att or at least a 3g compatible version at launch? I know people are gonna say avoid SE but I like them and I liked the X10, only thing that annoyed me was no MT.
Anyway what do you guys think? I really need a new phone as I am using a 3GS after my captivate broke, its not bad but I really miss Android.
Well you like Android so I'm not gonna go into the pros/cons of the OS. Just these two devices.
Xperia Arc (Should be out by April, most likely WON'T support AT&T 3G)
Pros:
-Good quality camera
-Thin and sleek
-4" Screen (not too big, not too small)
-Great screen BUT there's only a major difference when playing videos or looking at photos. Besides that, it's just a normal but good quality LCD.
-Gingerbread 2.3
Cons:
-Sony Ericsson put a skin on it
-Sony Ericsson has a spotty history with updates (I'm sure you know that being a X10 owner).
-Probably just as expensive as the Atrix thanks to the "Sony tax".
Motorola Atrix (Should be out by March, launching on AT&T)
Pros:
-Tegra 2 = total beast and the fastest thing out there.
-4" Screen (not too big, not too small)
-Screen resolution of 540x960 (qHD) -- the highest res screen of any Android device.
-Motorola is better than most to provide software updates.
-Crazy WebTop app and Laptop 'Dock'
-1930mah battery -- largest of any Android device.
-HSPA+ so you get 4G-like speeds.
-Front-facing camera
Cons:
-Motorola's abortion of a skin is on there.
-Froyo 2.2 and no idea of when upgrade will come.
-WebTop app looks cool, but could still suck.
-Despite large battery, Tegra 2 is under the hood and that could suck some battery really quickly.
Do you like MotoBLUR or whateverskinSonyEriccsonhasontheirGingerbread? I personally think MotoBLUR is complete crap and the fact that AT&T is not known for updating their phones rather quickly might be a roadblock. Than there is the locked bootloader if you don't plan on doing much with custom roms.
In all seriousness, there is no way in hell that the Atrix will have a better camera than the Arc, mainly because Cybershot cameras usually take phenomenal photos (tested with two Cybershots) and the Arc kind of has the censor from the Cybershots. The Arc might be the best camera orientated Android phone despite the lack of 1080p video recording. Motorola isn't really known for having good cameras, but they are known for using gorilla glass on most of their phones, so I am assuming the Atrix has that.
Depends on your preference really. I would personally go with the Arc and hope that SE is true to their word about updating their phones.
Atrix will come by March 1st.
Arc will come April.
Most unlocked phones have AT&T bands, so I wouldn't expect the Arc to be any different.
I would definitely go for the Atrix. Im on ATT too but I upgraded last june to the captivate so I will be waiting as well.
However, I would definitely get the atrix because of the specs and docking capability.
Well im leaning towards the arc as I like SE and imo they make the best looking phones, and that silver one is...wow! Only thing I need a confirmation is price, date and most important if it will have 3g bands, im willing to wait but not till the mddle if the year either lol
my question as well...arc or atrix?
I would go with Sony, mainky because i own X8 aswell and it proved to be a quite nice phone for the price range it has.
Yea, updates are Sony's biggest con, but besides that i had no real problems with it All their devices i had run pretty nice and smooth
Defiantly arc the looks of it are awesome plus it'll have 3 rd gen snap dragon soc won't be as powerful as atrix but the is like no apps that really use dual core but wait and see as for me battery life is huge

It's funny how peoples' tastes differ. I think SE phones look horrible, especially the Arc. Also, in a few months time phones with single-core processors will seem so out-of-date.
Motorola Atrix for me.

lol it is funny, I love Sony's phones, they always look different from the competition as well instead of an iphone wannabe, Atrix looks so....common.
Wait and watch the forums on XDA see which phone gets rooted first/more easily and see which phone is more easily modded.
I had the X10 and while it's a great phone the lack of support from SE really annoyed me and the fact that they locked that phone down like crazy was even more frustrating.
True, but as every phone out there, X10 will get unlocked properly sooner or later. Wasn't much of a factor here when i was buying my Xperia X8

Not true, I had a Motorola Milestone (European version of the Droid) and that never was properly unlocked-- still a great phone for it's time through, despite its weaknesses.
Anyways, to actually answer the question, the Atrix is a beast. 16gb internal storage is fantastic. Super fast processor. Both Sony and Motorola have pretty crappy track records when it comes to customer support, so don't expect much from either company on that front. I'd go with the Atrix.
Atrix is way better. I dont trust sony phones....

I can talk about SE Arc 'cause I personally use this device atm
I'm really satisfied for its functions, pros:
a) weight, it's so light
b) good media section (camera, music player...just radio is pretty poor in tuning)
c) pack (two usb cables, one for charging, the other for car charging - car charger included - screen protection - nice headphones)
d) display (wide enough and natural colors)
e) design (IMHO, the best form factor atm)
i've seen both phones a prefer the dual core atrix as it is much quicker (atleast in my experience)
go with your feeling, pick up you like
These two phones completely died off after CES.
Yes, stay for the first will be root

Will I like the Sensation?

Long story short, I lost my Samsung Vibrant (my previous upgrade 5 months ago) or it was stolen and T-mobile offered me a Free phone if I extend our lines for 2 years. (couldn't get the deal in the future or I would have waited for the Galaxy 2 probably) Which overall wasn't a big deal as we have been with them for 5 years and everything works out well. (plus we can still downgrade/upgrade our plan)
Anyway,
I chose the Sensation and had a few questions.
Will I like it? It seems very promising and I loved my G1.
More importantly, can I root it and throw on the roms I see floating around? Some people In reviews said the boot loader is locked? But not on newer versions?
the phone is GREAT. rooting and s-off is very easy. go into android developement and there will be the thread for it. the roms are all mostly sense roms. cm7 is out but still in beta but its pretty stable. so is MIUI, a iphoneish not really rom. only things wrong with miui is wifi calling and bluetooth. i think so with cm7 too.

Have you noticed any signal issues? I've read a few but the majority of the people didn't have it.
I'm excited. HTC is awesome build quality. Should be plenty even with the slower dual core compared to the galaxy.
Only thing I was really worried about was screen but it seems this one is pretty good.
Also, is the Zagg shield worth it? I really want a decent screen protector but hate trying to put them on.
about the screen,
maybe it's not as beautiful as I-PHONE, but I think the quality is very good already.
It's a good phone, I like it very much
so~~~many things here, you can discover to modify you phone, and improve it performance.
Don;t worry, just check it out ~XD
I think you'll love it. I used to have an iPhone4 and love this phone. The build quality is real good. The speaker seems a little on the quiet side. I'd recommend rooting it ASAP and installing CM7. Yes, it's in the alpha phase right now, but it's real fast and CM is so nice imho of course.
So yeah, the Sensation has a great screen, a good feel, and is pretty quick. Much faster than a stock SGSII if you install a modded ROM and overclock it ;-)
I will for sure root it and put a rom on it. Not so sure I will overclock it.
Can you comment on call quality and speed? My vibrant only had 3g so looking forward to 4g.
I'm almost thinking of downgrading my data plan too. The last 4 months of use on my Vibrant I did maybe 350MB's total out of 5GB.
Any comments on a Zagg screen? that or is there something easy to put on it off Amazon? ( i have 2 day shipping)
Any clue when t-mobile will get the Galaxy s2? That's the only other phone I would have wanted but, I had to go with one today as I couldn't get the deal again.
im not really a big fan of screen protectors so i really cant recomend one. i do know that the zagg sheild is a good screen protector. i have used one in the past and i liked how it feels. its really solid and thick so you will get the feeling that nothin will scratch it unlike any of the other screen protectors out there. tmobile sells one as well. but i had one on my hd2 but i didnt like it cause it has a matte finnish to prevent smudges and it just felt awkward whenever i move my thumb around. you can always look around on ebay for a really cheap one. but like i said i really dont use them. i buy them and i wind up removin them a few weeks later. idk y its just the way i am. and i never had a problem with scracthes. with the exception of the hd2 but i had that phone for over a year before i got that scratch and you really cant see it plus i replaced it with the sensation a week later.
as far as the galaxy s ii i believe it comes out sometime next month. most likely at the end. anyone can correct me if im wrong here.
i for one love htc phones just becuase of build quality and sense ui. but some people dont like sense so its really up to the user on that. just go to the store and play around with the sensation and the galaxy s ( i know its not the s ii but its close to it.) and see for yourself. i think youll love the htc sensation.
edit: get the zagg sheild. i think its the best bang for your buck
I'm much in the same boat guys, going to be coming from an iPhone 4.
I've had a Nexus S and an Atrix, but didn't like the Atrix due to the screen and motoblur (at the time development was slow), and the Nexus S build quality was appalling.
I just want good battery life and great build quality, good screen and fast.
Will I like it do you guys reckon ?

Tbh I can't tell much different between the quality of this screen and the iphone 4. Except that ours is bigger of course.
I love this phone. Now that I am sense free with cyanogenmod its easily the fastest phone I've ever seen.
The only real ***** is the usual one with htc phones. Htc always put **** external speaker in their phones. Its still useable but compared to some of the other smart phones out there it could be better.

I came from an Iphone and I think I actually prefer the sensations screen... im not sure why!

Beloved Sensation stolen.. Sammy glxy nexus?

Hey everybody,
well, my sensation got stolen a week ago, this has been a very bad (phone-wise) week, because I've been using an Iphone 3gs since (my dad had one just for occasions like these)..
this Iphone is the crappiest thing I've ever used so help me kermit the frog!
any way.. my goal since then was to buy a new sensation and make it an XE just to cheer my self up.. but now came out the amazing Samsung galaxy nexus, now this thing is absolutely incredible.. the screen on that phone is just perfection, I could just dream HTC would use that screen on their phones. for the record - I adore HTC, and would always prefer an HTC phone over any other model, but this thing just blew my mind away..
So.. the thing is I dont want to get my hopes up so that if eventually I'll buy myself a new sensation I would always think back about the galaxy nexus.
and that's where you guys (and gals) come along, I'm just looking for some advice, you really don't need to explain how good the sensation is and how Htc makes the best phones and interface out there because I already know, just read on and you'll understand my frustration:
these are the pros and cons:
HTC sensation xe:
1. It has sense (this is the biggest advantage HTC has over Samsung or for that matter over every other smartphone out there.)
2. 1.5 ghz dual core.
3. 8 mp camera (although smartphones have a very small camera sensor so it really doesnt matter how many MP's you've got, you could have 20 of them but still get crappy photos).
4. beats audio (though this feature doesn't really matter to me as I don't listen to music from my phone that much)
Samsung galaxy nexus:
1. ICS (although the sensation is getting it pretty pretty pretty soon)
2. the screen ohhhh the screen, this thing is by far the most amazing screen i've ever seen on a phone. plus it's bigger, 4.65 inches and I love that.
3. good camera: although it lacks the MP's the sensation has, I think this camera is a very good one in comparison. It features a very (very) fast shutter speed, I believe it is faster than the sensation, and Samsung says it has top notch low light performance which is one of the most important things a phone's camera can have.
the two major cons I see in the galaxy nexus is it is SENSEless (), and the price of course... I can buy a Sensation and a half with its price
If you leave out the Sense's widgets (because the launchers today are pretty good) I will definitely miss it's features like flip to silent, pick up phone when call comes in and the ring volume lowers, flip to turn speaker in call.. these are the things that make HTC phones better than other phones.
anyway I think that if the Sammy's price won't lower soon I'd settle for the sensation, but what if there was a minor price difference? what would you do?
I'd love to hear your thoughts people, TNX!

Yeh sure.. the phone was turned off a couple of minutes after I figured it's not in my pocket. so couldn't locate it's location from the sense site, I was drunk as well.. so in the heat of the moment i logged in to sense.com and locked the device and then clicked on the "restore device", so once I did that I no longer had any other options on the sense site, Plan B also was not relevant as the phone was reset as said.. I was depressed for 2 days, like not getting out of bed depressed...
If you know the IMEI you can get it locked by your provider so that no one else can use it again.
As for Sensation or Galaxy Nexus.
Personally if i had the choice atm i would stick with a Sensation, but that's just because i love the unibody design & like Sense.
But the Galaxy Nexus has some pretty good features too. Bigger Screen, it comes with ICS & it's currently Google's Flagship phone so it gets all the updates first.

Actually, they wont because they hope that stolen phones turn into used phones on their network. Sadly, they only care about THEIR business. The thief may use it or sell it to someone that will use it. Sucks huh? I believe a court order could have them lock it, but good luck with that.

Had to say go for the Nexus, I've had my Sensation a year but now it sits gathering dust in the corner as my GN is my daily phone. It is just better than the Sensation in every way IMO
I would go with the Nexus because,
1) it is larger but lighter-- I am a big fan of light devices.
2) RAM-- my sensation on stock would have its RAM eaten by Sense so when I'd play certain games it'd crash quite easily. I'm not sure how ICS with Sense would affect this though.
3) The front camera of the Nexus is much more clearer than the Sensation-- I use video calling a lot and the front camera could be better for the sensation.
Although I must say I'd miss Sense contacts a whole lot..
-V
The Galaxy Nexus is certainly a nice phone but it's just a bit too big for me. The Sensation/Sensation XE is just about at the limits of pocket-friendliness IMO.

They made the bezel so thin that it's about the same size as any other 4.3" phone.

Really? That's awesome then. I just assumed that the bigger screen meant an increase in the phone's dimensions by at least that much.
I remember trying my girlfriend's SGS2 in my pocket and it didn't feel as comfortable as my Sensation, even though the latter is technically bigger.

Depth isn't that much of an issue for me. All phones now are pretty darn thin compared to older models. I think my issue with the SGS2 was that it felt so flat inside my pocket, like it would break if I walked normally. I'm sure it wouldn't have but that's how it felt.
The GN looks a lot more contoured than the SGS2 and that alone will probably make it more comfy. I
want to go try a GN now. But I just got my XE a month ago and I promised myself my next big purchase would be that shiny, new portable console that just came out.
I would go with the Sensation XE just purely on bang for buck and also the fact that Samsung phone values tend to fall so quickly... They all have common issues like freezing and as it gets older the phone shows its age in the performance..
between those two I'd go for the GNexus at present time.
why? update...
plus that screen... bigger ram, better front facing camera, and NFC(yeah, it's not widely popular at the moment but atleast it has the feature for future proofing)
down side is all the plastic but I think I can put up with it for, if not for anything, the updates... and the developing community it (will) has/have.
this is all assuming I wouldn't have to switch carriers. but here in the states you'd have to so... makes my whole argument moot.
I just got a Sensation XE because i cant cope without an SD card.
I mean if you an afford it, go with galaxy nexus. I played with ny friends phone and it was super cool.

[Q] Upgrade to which phone?

Hey guys,
I really want to upgrade my phone. Currently I have a Desire S but the screen is far to small for my needs :/
So i want to upgrade. There are 3 phones were i'm interested in: the Galaxy S2, the Galaxy Nexus and the normal Sensation.
I really like the speed of the S2 and the hardware home button, but the resolution is incredible low on this device Against that there is the Nexus, its a bit slower from what i've heard but has a beautiful screen in my opinion. Did any of you guys know if the decrease in speed is noticeable in daily use? I really like that it is also supported directly from Google and get the updates asap.
There are also the Sensation because i like the aluminium case from HTC.
I prefer the Nexus and the S2 a bit over the Sensation. So which phone you recommend for me?
- Cheers Jahai

I'm sorry to tell you, but I think you are at the wrong place. Everyone here likes his desire s.
If you need a big screen, try galaxy note or use pc

I would advise you to wait for the Mobile World Congress before upgrading... you'll have many more options within a couple of months...
But if you still want to upgrade now, here's my input :
1. Sensation : ? Why would you want to consider that? It's an average phone, and from whatever time i've spent on it on my friend's phone, it's nothing to write hone about. Does anyone even remember the original Sensation anymore (Especially after the XL and the XE?)
2. The SGS2 is a very very fast phone, with great hardware, but i have two issues with it : The screen has a bluish tinge to it, and colour reproduction is inaccurate across the spectrum. Secondly, it looks like a plastic business card holder
3. The Galaxy Nexus is a lovely looking device, the form factor is very attractive. In my discussions with zeekiz (who bricked his DS and migrated to the GN) he says he loves the phone and it's not slow or anything like you mentioned. Plus, you'll be the first person to get the next Android version update (Jellybean). Thirdly, it always makes sense to go for the newer device, both for the gains in hardware, as well as company support that comes more easily and lasts longer for newer (especially) flagship phones.
Best of luck choosing your next device!!

Just a small note here, with my experiance the 3.7' of the Desire S is the largest screen size for a mobile that I can -almost- fully use with one hand, whenever you go beyond that, you may have to get used to work with both hands, and that made me drop the sensation in favor of my DS

I came from a HTC Sensation to the Desire S as i found the Sensation too big. Surprisingly i have found the Desire S not much slower.
I would also wait for the MWC...but if you can't wait, IMHO Sensation is a good device especially after it's rooted and equipped with the custom ICS based roms made for the XE version (with CPU at 1.5 Ghz)...i think capy's work.
Anyway you have a lot of roms to try even with ICS out there.
Regarding the SGSII it's ok if you want a plastic phone....
Galaxy Nexus has a good screen and it's not slow but i think it's a little big, you will clearly need 2 hands if you want to use it properly.

Right on! Exactly my thoughts about the SGS2. It feels like a business card holder!
Wait for mwc and HTC edge if price isn't the big deal
Otherwise, i personaly would buy a sensation, the gs2 is sure a nice device, but like mentioned above the screen isn't the best and the plastic body feels weird.
The galaxy nexus isn't a device for me, there are 2 dealbreakers at my opinion, even if the resolution is better than at the gs2 the grapic chip is wors and there is no sd slot.
The update cycle is sure a point and the nfc also, but for my opinion it's a pure developer phone.
The sensation is from hardware almost the same like the sensation xe and every rom can be exchanged between those 2 devices, there is no nfc, for sure, but the gs2 also haven't got one, so this isn't a point of interest for you i think.
Also even if all of them have them same frequenzies the sensation runs at a stock speed of 1.5 ghz with an xe rom, so it got the highest frequency of those phones.
Swifted from my Desire S far away from my PC
yeah i'd wait for MWC but if not galaxy nexus for all the reasons above. It is definitely not a slow phone, especially since google probably built ICS for the nexus. The only thing i hate about the nexus phones is the fact that they're always released at awkward times. By awkward, i mean right before all the new hardware comes out. My brother has an S2 and it does have a horrible plasticky feeling. While the galaxy nexus is the same, it seems to hide it better. The white S2 is even worse! It has no grip on the back which makes it absolutely horrible to hold, not to mention a liability too.
It's been a while since I did a megga-post.....
From what I'm hearing about HTC's line-up for MWC, I hope they also announce a sensible phone. At the moment I really don't know what I'll get, as the current rumours all seem to have several problems for me.
1. Screens too big.
I have a non-upgradable 2.5" thumb. I've spoken to my network provider but they wont give me a larger one. I do not want to have to change grip or use two hands to turn screen on/off. The DS screen size is perfect. It is fine watching films on Netflix.
2. Quad core. Really?
Does anyone remember the Coca-Cola/Sprite stunt yo-yo's from the eighties? (Bear with me here, work is a little slow today and I feel a rant coming on.) They were a massive craze when I was at school. They came in two versions. "Standard" and "Pro". The Pro ones cost nearly twice as much. Why was that? It was because the Pro version had "Pro" written on the side. That was it. They were the same size and weight as the standard version. But every kid in my class practically sold a kidney to get the pro version, because to show up in the playground with the standard version stood you out for ridicule, and everyone was certain the Pro version could do better stunts. What is quad core going to give us? How often is it going to be running on more than 2 cores? Can it do better stunts? My single core phone can render web pages quickly, run any game I've asked it to, record 720p video at 30fps, and has a smooth and lag free UI. It just doesn't have "Pro" written all over it. That word seems to brain-wash kids into doling out dosh! Kids love the idea of being "Pro". Look at what every premium version of any app on the Android Marketplace is called.
3. Skinny form-factors
Leading to phones being bendy and having a non-removable battery. I like my solid aluminium DS. I've held the SGS2. It feels like a kinder surpise egg. Squeeze it too hard and I worry it'd break. Plus if we are having to have a (pro) Quad Core phone don't we need a bigger battery? Did you know the HTC Edge has a fifth core (super pro) that is a very low power companion core for when the phone is off in your pocket? Turn your phone on (without dropping it changing your grip to reach the button) and expect laptop battery life from the 40nm chip. Will it come with a Pro Charger?
4. No SD Card slot.
OK most of the phones with these also claim built-in 32GB storage which is fine for capacity, but what if I brick my phone larking about on XDA? What if it just packs in? Currently all my music/photos/documents would simply be removed and put into another phone. If it's built-in and your phone wont boot.....Are the cloud-storage sites encouraging phone manufacturers to do this?
5. Build Quality.
HTC seem to have really dropped the ball with this one. They used to be fantastic. However I know 3 people who have bought the DS since September (on my recommendation) and all of them have been back for repair at least once. One of them died for the second time two nights ago with the dreaded eMMC chip failure again! WTF? Did they replace the faulty board with another one prone with the same weakness? She also waited 6 weeks to get that phone back the first time. I feel guilty now. Also check Amazon for the reviews of the DS. Since September it's started getting a load of 1 star reviews and they all read the same. It seems I was lucky in buying my DS on it's release, before it seems HTC moved production to the local wine bar/crack house. There is no way I'm spending £450 on something I'm not confident will last a year or will take me 6 weeks to get repaired.
If HTC...no if ANYONE announce a phone that has: A screen under 4", solid build, removable battery, SD card slot, improved camera optics, decent amount of RAM, reasonable battery life and justifiable processing power, then I'll get my wallet out. Or if it comes with a free Pro Yo-Yo. They do better stunts.
Basically I want a DS with a nicer camera and bigger battery. And a sticker that says "Pro" on it.

Brilliant!
Love the rant (and i thought i was the only one with this illness)
I agree on mostly everything you've said above... especially HTC screwing up on its strengths... build quality, sub-par components, and progressively bloat-ier (i know that's not a word) Sense... Though i'd still buy an HTC instead of a Samsung, all things set aside, they do better stunts!!
Yeah. Your words seem to come right from my mind.
a desire s pro would be really cool

If i had the choice, i'd choose the sensation in a heartbeat.
First, it has the beat build IMO. The SGS 2 is too plasticky and since it's far too thin, it feels weird in my hand. The galaxy nexus is waaaaaay to big. The sensation is perfect
Second, HTC Sense. It is just too good and i can't get a device that has no chance of getting Sense. Besides, touchwiz sucks and the stock experience on the nexus can be acieved through an AOSP ROM.
That said, the super amoled screen is quiet good ad a plus point of both sammys.
That said, i recommend you wait till MWC. Something awesome will surely come up. There is a thread, full of leaks on the two upcoming htc devices, the One X and the One S.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476788
it has to be the htc amaze, i think its a great phone, in addition to that htc has quality in its build, as in our desire s the aluminum feel is way better than the plastic in most samsungs

Do we really need this much horse power?

Hi all.
I know this is an HTC One S forum, but I want to ask a more general question regarding the decision to buy a new phone.
Up until a few weeks ago, I was set to buy the Galaxy S2. It felt like an adequate replacement for my S1 in term of CPU power and daily needs. Then I saw the One S and sort of fell in love with its design and theoretically strong build. Needless to say the latest reports on the MAO issue have made rethink of buying this phone.
I went through a lot of comparisons between the HTC One S and other phones (Xperia S, SGS2 to name a few), and then I stopped and thought to myself - after the initial enthusiasm, what will I benefit from having HOS instead of say the SGS2?
So, what do you think? What made you choose HOS over SGS2 (or other phones for that matter)?
Thanks,
Boaz.
Get the grey one

both phones are very good...In terms of spec there isnt a lot separating them.
i doubt you will be disappointed with either device, but for me the One S is superior.. The build quality is awesome, Samsung tend to produce 'plasticky' phones that are very brittle..
If you do get the One S, get they grey version, It doesnt suffer MAO issues. and just looks totally cool, especially with the blue camera, Thats a nice addition
The reason I went for the HOS was... *drumroll*... HTC...
HTC made the Hero.
HTC made the Desire.
Enough reasons right there.
Yeah... I am an HTC lover.
But!!!
I won't ever deny that Samsung makes good hardware (atleast on the inside). But as I don't like plastic things that acts like fingerprint magnets the choice was easy to make.
i have the grey version which seems to be less prone to the chipping condition . Two weeks in and mine is still OK.
I had the S2 and I can tell you that I like the S because
1) The battery time is excellent
2) Screen is great
3) Build is far better than the S2 . Not so plastic
4) It's fast and I mean fast
The only thing I would have liked was the expansion of memory but 16gb is holding up well for me .
