[Q] Dg27 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I have an Epic with DG27 and am trying to update it to root it, however, the update that I have found isnt allowing me to update to the EC05 or EB13. Where can I look for the proper update.zip file to be able to get my phone in working order to root it?
Thanks,

I just realized why my OTA Froyo update failed, and it's because of this same issue!

General root question

Hi there,
its maybe a stupid question, but what the hell...
..when you update your sofware. from 1.6 to 2.1 or 2.1 to 2.2
do you have to root your device again? or does it stay rootted?
and do you also have to reinstall all your files again or not?
thanks
I was wondering something similar. I was wondering that if I root my Vibrant now, will I have problems when t-mobile pushes the 2.2 update?
If I wont ill root my phone, if i will ill leave it alone until the 2.2 push

If you are already rooted and updating the ROM version, you will NOT loose root. As long as you keep with the custom built ROMs, you'll stay rooted.
If the ROM requires a wipe, then you will loose all your files. There are ROMs that are no-wipe, which allow you to upgrade to the newer version without having to reset your phone.

Do NOT download the T-Mobile 2.2 update if you receive it on your phone. You'll more than likely loose root.
Either download the custom built ROM (not sure if the Vibrant has) or stick with your current version.
thanks for clearing this up...

im not rooted now so its no big deal. however once it pushed ill just root it then and call it done.
I'm not 100% but I think everyone who did the OTA update to 2.2 are now finding that all the rooting tutorials are for 2.1 and cannot root until updated tutorials make their way out. With that said, I would root now while you're still on 2.1 and completely avoid your stock OTA 2.2 update. You'll be able to still update to 2.2 but it will be on a custom rom... win-win.

A little off the op's post, but....
I have a motorola droid, just updated to the froyo 2.2 OTA. Rooted it easily with UniversalAndroot.apk.
i had rooted my galaxy S
and my device can't go into the download mode
because of the software/ hardware problem ( 3button can't use)
can i fresh a new rom without download mode?'
my rom is Eclair.dtjg4 now

[Q] Firmware 8.2.3.12 dock fix and root

I posted this in the Firmware 8.2.3.12 thread, but, wanted to break it out since it may be blocking root.
Has any one who has installed this new firmware been able to get gingerbreak to gain temp root?
There were patches to both vold and netd in this firmware and I am not able to get it to fault after installing. It hangs on the initial do_fault() while waiting for crashlog to report the fault.
Edit:
Hopefully someone will check to see if this is the case. I was able to get it to downgrade to 8.2.3.9 and could root after that. So it does seem that the new firmware patches to vold will stop root.

[Q] I need help

I tried to install ICS on my Nexus S and I got as far as unlooking the bootloader. For some reason CWM will not install. Now I just want to lock the thing back so I can get the offical update. Can someone help please?
how did you unlock ? then just do it backwards
I used a tutorial. One click root v3.0 from qbking77 on youtube.
They do not have one step nexus s unroot just the 4g one.
I had the same problem with CWM recovery in (NS 4G that is) but this post helped me

just rename the file "install-recovery.sh" which is in the /etc folder. You can only access it with a root file manager (rootexplorer $4 on the market)
make sure your new file is not ending with .sh
When is the ICS OTA coming to NS4G? I doubt anytime soon when Nexus Galaxy is not even out yet.
It says my phone my phone is my phone does not appear to be rooted. Can I get regular OTA without the bootloader being locked?
So....does anyone know?
bro , full pakage ROM only few days later after OTA , so why don't you just directly flash ROM instead of OTA ? just few days , and now you are sucking with this problem
O.O
OK, Well I am new to all this. How would I flash once it comes out?

how do I flash rogers ota update?

Rogers released a new update (Link), but trying to flash it from my phone keeps failing.
I would like to flash it from my computer but can't seem to find out how.
(figured it out, please delete)

Droid 2 Global Can't connect to any wifi HELPP

I am a complete noob with this stuff. So i wanted to root but i read that i had to downgrade my firmware to do it. So i do some sbf-ing with rsdlite 5.7 and it says that it PASSed but on my phone it had an error and wouldnt let me leave bootloader. so i did a ton of research to fix it and i end up getting it to work.. im not sure of it downgraded but im just happy that the phonee turned on. I rooted it with superoneclick and it was a success. after i rooted it i realized that my wifi wasnt working so i wiped all my data and everything and unrooted it and it still wouldnt work. I have verizon fios and it is secured with WEP. i tried other wifi networks and i wasnt able to connect to any of them. it would just say obtaining ip address and then it wud disconnect and scan for other wifi networks and that would keep repeating. I have no idea what is going on and did research for over 24 hours and still cant find the solution. My phone is not activated so i cant call or text or use 3g data. My system version is 4.5.608.A956.Verizon.en.US and my android version is 2.3.3. PLEASE HELP I CANT FIGURE THIS OUT! Thanks in advance
SOMEONE PLEASE REPLY I REALLY NEED TO FIX IT
:crying:
Your problem is that you are still on Android 2.3.3
You have to take the OTA update in order to get WIFI working again.
If you already have root, you can install Voodoo OTA rootkeeper (look for it in the play store, there is an alternate download link there). After installing rootkeeper, you can open it and protect root, then temp unroot.
After that, you need to get the OTA update, and put the zip file on your SD card, and install it from recovery.
Then, restore root with Rootkeeper.
All those files should be available at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660713
Or, an alternate option is to flash back to Android 2.3.4, and use the direct root method now available.
A combined SBF and Root CD is at

Or there is a Root only CD there, for if you are on 2.3.4
Thanks SOOO much.. Im going to try it out right now with the first option you gave me and post the results later tonight
the ota rootkeeper app doesnt say temp unroot.. do i use the superoneclick to unroot it.. im not sure if temp unrooting is the same as unrooting? im sorry im just new to android
Rootkeeper doesn't root, just saves a copy of the files.
So, you need to root with super1click, then protect root with rootkeeper.
Then temp unroot, and update in recovery

nvm i figured it out. I just unrooted with superoneclick, rerooted again, and then temp unroot showed up.
SWEET after i rebooted (from installing 629 OTA) i restored root and checked if the wifi worked and it did! THANKS SO MUCH! i literally tried for a couple of days to do this. never going to miss with this phone again.. ahaha thanks a ton!
You are welcome, glad you got it back up and working.
Hi;
Had the same problem, with the same specs.
