Can't connect to data network - Captivate General

Currently a Rogers customer running Firefly 2.8 with Speedmod k13e and I've been having issues with the data network all day.
This morning, I wasn't able to send/receive txts/calls. Switched my SIM to my old phone (sony ericsson) and it worked fine, so I flashed to 2.2 and again it worked fine. So I flashed back to 2.8 with speedmod and now I can't connect to the data network. Anyone know what's up with my phone?

What modem does the speedmod kernel use? It could be that the modem they use isn't compatible with your area or possibly you need to change bands. Easy fix to flash another one. Find the modem that works best in your area, download it, install it via CWM.

I flashed to the new ROM and Kernel when they were both released and had no problems, it just randomly stopped sending txts, however I just got confirmation this morning that apparently they all sent today at around 3am so it looks like it's my service provider and not my phone..
Anyway, would the modems work in Canada on the Rogers network or do I have to have specific ones?

If you want something that works pretty much all the time, use JK4 - it's basic and very stable.
It's the one that comes with Team Phoenix's ROMs and I never had any problem with it.
If that's the one you're using, then go ahead and try another one but it can be a problem with Rogers too. I had that problem with my old phone but it wasn't a problem with the phone, it was Rogers.
I suggest that if you don't have JK4 atm and that you like your modem, to just continue using it for a few days and see if it happens again. If that's the case, then change to JK4 (Or any other modem if you're using JK4).

I checked the settings and it turns out I am using JK4, I would imagine it's the same one I've been using because I flashed to Firefly about 2-3 weeks after I got my phone (started out at version 1.0.5 or something).
So the problem would most likely be with Rogers? Considering I've called in 4 times about it, I'm sure they'd be willing to replace my phone if need be.

I'm guessing your phone or maybe sim card? but if you sim is new with your phone than I doubt that's what it is.
You can try a different modem for a few days and see how it goes before returning it. Also if you return it, don't forget to bring it to stock lol

Dude, watch the language and this should have been posted in the correct ROM sticky in Q&A.

That's correct, please post in the correct section.

No 4G since the update

I applied the update late Friday night and have not been able to get a 4G signal since. I'm normally in a strong 4G area and had not had any problems like this in the past except for the nationwide outage of course.
I've tried battery pulls, toggling LTE off and on and even did a factory reset. I then talked to tech support and they did a few things on their end that were unsuccessful. They then told me to get a new SIM card but once again, no luck.
Tech support is at a loss to explain what is going on and has escalated it to the higher level of support. It can take up to a week for them to get to a ticket so I guess I'm SOL until they take a look at it.
Anybody else having 4G problems since the update?
I haven't applied the update but have been stuck in 1X all day as well. I also pulled the battery, switched back and forth on Rev A, and toggled LTE. Nothing. Was going to revert back to a saved ROM next. My wife's phone happily receives 3G.
Did the update Friday night and 4G is as strong as ever.
Sent from my Verizon 4GLTE HTC THUNDERBOLT
My 4g is also working. What is weird is when I loaded a ROM I lost all signal. I loaded another Rom and nothing. I had to load radio file in hboot and I was back in business.
yea in such circumstances I had reflashed the radio and it works just fine, give it a shot
Received a replacement today, popped in the SIM card and am back to 4G. No idea what happened but the update is definitely to blame.
Yeah I got mess up too with the new update. Had to get a new simcard today and it work ok.
4G working just fine for me also

glad you got it worked out. I would have reflashed just the radio to try and fix it.
Having this issue as well since yesterday (7/11). Loaded Th3ory 5.0 with the newest radio to two different Tbolts (mine and a coworkers) and we're both experiencing the same issue. Flashed different versions of the radio, including the newest one again and had 4G come back for a short period of time before all service was gone again. Not sure if its an issue with Th3ory rom itself and since I cant post in that thread until I make a few more spam posts about nothing to get my post count up, I figured I'd post it here.
in Mid-town NYC where 4g has never been an issue before.
I should add that I wasn't rooted.
What happens if you're Rooted and running a custom ROM and you do a SIM Card pull? I really want to try this method, but i'm scared this will force my phone to download the new OTA update and that i'll either brick my phone or run into some serious issues.
I have had trouble for the last two days getting 4G, never had a problem before.

don't think anyone else is having problems. Might be network issues in your area. Just flashed gingertheory 5.0 yesterday with the new stock 2.0 radio from the update and no problems.
I am having the same issues 4g is gone and only stuck on 1x
Make sure you check your sim and battery cover.

You dont need to pull out the sim card, pulling the battery is good enough. All it does is update the PRL.

I'm in the same boat.... I used to get 3-4 bars of 4G service at my home, now after the update I barely get 1 bar of 3G service. I have to force the phone to lock onto 4G by choosing LTE only.

[solved] - GB modem - loss of signal

Ever since I flashed GB I have not been able to get signal in my work (3 bars on stock froyo).
I used the stock modem in Valhalla.
Then I tried KF2....
Each time I go to mobile networks, it wont even recognize T-Mobile, only shows AT&T.
I went outside at work, searched again, and was able to register fine. I do not think it is an IMEI or hardware issue because of this.
I searched, but did not find much.... is this odd or common?
Anyone have suggestions for this?
Thanks.
I've had the AT&T thing happen before with some GB modems, but only if I am in an area with really really week signal (like inside my condo). I flashed the KD1 modem, and it does work a bit better.
With KD1, I can get 1, sometimes 2 bars if I put the phone in a certain spot on my dresser, and it won't jump to AT&T.
Nice, will try that one now. Coincidence that I had t-mo swap my sim card yesterday. I am on the phone with them now to see what they can do, if anything.
I'll give it a whirl soon.
Well, called T-Mo... they tried some things... no luck. Flashed a few modems... no luck.
Now, it is working. Maybe just an outage here.

[Q] International roaming issue on Valhalla rom?

I'm on a trip overseas and I'm having issues with international roaming on the newest Valhalla rom. Initially, my phone will register to the network just fine with data and everything. After a random amount of time - anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours - I will be disconnected from the network entirely and have to reset in order to connect to data, send texts, or make phone calls. There are two networks I can use here in Malaysia and I'm experiencing the same issue with both in multiple cities. Is this a common problem with flashed roms? I haven't ever had an issue like this with international roaming until I flashed this one.
Note: I took a look at the "T-mobile service issue" post and I haven't had any issues staying connected to the T-mobile network while in the states.
I tried updating the modem to KJ1 and I'm still having the same problem. I usually get kicked off the network within 5 minutes and have to search for a network again. Any ideas?
I've not done any international roaming but if the problem seems centralized to that particular ROM, maybe you can try a factory data reset & re-flash that ROM? Otherwise I'd consider going back to a stock ROM & see if the problem is there. If not, then maybe re-flash Valhalla? I wish I had more to offer but I have no experience with international roaming.
Maybe PM WhitehawkX to see if he has any insight?

Yeah I haven't had any issues with international roaming up until using Valhalla. I just tried flashing the KJ3 modem and I'm still getting the same result. I'll probably wait to flash another rom until i get back stateside but I'll PM WhitehawkX in the meantime. Thanks
Good luck. I feel bad for you being in another country and having issues. Maybe try the KJ5 modem; fresh off of the press today

Yeah it's not an ideal situation, that's for sure. I tried flashing KJ5 and I'm having the same issue.

So after a lot of digging with no real results I think it might be a Samsung galaxy issue with roaming on gingerbread? I read a support article from Sasktel in Canada with regards to the Galaxy Vibrant: http://support.sasktel.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12517/~/samsung-galaxy-s-vibrant-roaming-issues-after-upgrading-to-android-2.3.3%3A
Basically it says there is an issue with roaming outside of the US and Canada directly related to the Gingerbread upgrade for that variant. I'm thinking that the problem might also affect the S 4G variant and that's why I'm having problems. Supposedly this is going to be fixed in future updates and maybe this is one of the reasons Samsung hasn't released an official Gingerbread update for this phone. I realize this is not likely, but is anyone up to the task of figuring out the problem and fixing it before Samsung does?

[Q] Only 4G Network Working

Well I have this SGS4G and I updated it to kd6 and it messed up the network. I almost never got a signal (it would show the circle with a line through it). I flashed it back to KD1 rooted and now it works but it only gets 4G network. Whenever I get out of range of a 4g tower and the phone switches to GSM it gets no network. Is their anyway to fix the radio firmware on this?

Go to the market and download an app called GPS Aids. Go through the initial set up with it, then under the Tools menu at the top (not the actual menu name, but it's similar), then scroll down the screen until you see an option called Hard Reset. Give that a shot. Bear in mind that you will lose any data you have on the phone when you do it.
Kd6? Never heard of it... Have you tried flashing a different modem?

KD6 would be the gingerbread update. Phone was fixed with a new sims card even though we got a new sims card when it was bought, turns out it was one of the older defective ones

For future reference - KJ6 was the GB update.

Official Australian Optus GB rom available...kind of...

As some of you may know, my O3D was sent to LG service repairers Evertec to fix a broken power button. I asked them to fix just the power button under warranty - my phone was on froyo (i was on the leaked GB but because of ghost calls and data dropouts i reverted to froyo) and i just got my phone back today with a note saying the power button was fixed and they flashed my phone to "the latest firmware"
Lo and behold I booted to a fresh install of an official Optus GB rom - baseband 20b but perfect reception. no dropouts or ghost calls. i think it may be rom related.... i do have some bloatware but at least i have no reception/data issues
im not sure if this rom is available ota or for download but the service guys seem happy to flash it on repaired phones!
yes,20b is online, but still not rootable
I had 20b installed before but it wasnt the Australian Optus rom... Whatever rom that was, it always gave me grief....now no problems at all. in fact optus even sent me a message with settings in it - i havent activated it as yet as my reception is currently working perfectly fine without it.
Guys, please be aware that LG version numbers ARE NOT CONSISTENT, at least not the way we think of it. European v20b is not the same as India v20b.
In fact, each region has it´s own version branch, so you can perfectly have, for example, Romenia v21a with the same baseband of Croatia v20b.
So, don´t be fooled by equal version numbers: you can only compare version numbers when comparing software for the same region. If you cross regions when comparing, you will get it all wrong.

I installed the same rom as you, 20B Optus, took my external SD out and formatted the phone to factory, for one day the phone worked well then the problems started as before 3G getting stuck can't go to airplane mode I had to restart the phone, after it happened over 4 times I installed froyo. Same thing exactly happened to my friends O3D, Evertec changed the board on my phone when I took the phone for service for the random rebooting problem, now it is very hard to sell the phone if I tell the potential buyers the phone was serviced. So I am stuck with it.
I use it like Thiaz as a media device now and I use My Iphone 4 as my main phone.
what is the use of a phone if it can't be used as a phone?

I noticed you're posting from a 925... Mines a 920.... I never had a random reboot and I've installed the Acura and Thiaz roms - used stock roms, OC'd and the only GB rom working properly is this one....
I'll keep my fingers crossed that it stays this way....
Admittedly I never had any issues on Froyo - If this rom does play up I'll downgrade asap. I won't miss the GB features all that much

You noted correctly, but my one is an Optus 920, I was so desperate so I am using Froyo Baseband and the CM GB for the 925, this was my last resort, the phone works very quick with no lag, and I charge once a day, hdmi does not work, and I can't view photos in 3D, but this phone is good for playing games, that is all I use it for.
I have intalled the update to my optus lg optimus 3d thought lg update tool, i have had 2 missed calls i did not receve that i know of and really bad battery life. i might have to do a factory reset if this does not fix i will not be happy.......back to lg

Good Luck mate, they will tell you that you are the only one in the world that is having this problem, all the staff at the LG service center (evertech) are using GB without any issues what so ever.
you will be told (you are special)
Ok... Here's the weird thing - I know people seem to be having problems using this rom... I am not one of them (so far) I had issues on every other GB rom but this one. Maybe it's related to signal strength, carrier specific settings or something else. I really can't explain my lack of issues. I do set my phone to 3G only - as I don't want it jumping from 2G to 3G but that's it as far as any phone changes.
*I am using the Optus GB rom on Virgin Australia (they piggyback on Optus - slightly different settings but same network).

Please keep us posted, I am on Vodafone and the signal is shocking where I live (inner west) Vodafone will be updating the network next month.
but I do not have any issues with my iphone at all, and when I go to my other house (castle hill) where the signal is perfect -50 db I still get the baseband crashing.
I used the phone for 2 weeks back in November when they released the Europe Open before I stated getting complaints that I am not answering Phone calls and I missed out on couple Jobs worth over a grand!!!
Quick update.... 1 week later and still no issues - strange but true! No missed calls (that I'm aware of and no loss of data... Perfect reception... For virgin mobile customers on Optus GB rom - no issues.
GPS lock perfect - regaining signal after airplane mode perfect, over 400MB in data in a week and no loss of reception, perfect... This is the only rom that works for me on GB without ghost calls, internal reorganizing crap or loss of reception/data
I can't root and have some bloatware but I can live with that...
Will update if things go bad but for now I'm VERY happy!
Thank you so much for getting back to us, I will be trying the 20A Australia again, this time around, I will take the SD card out, will fully format the phone and only install couple important apps that I need, I am doubtful but at this stage I am willing to try anything. will try the 20A for 3 days and will report back.
Edit:
Day one: No Freezing and no missed calls at all.
