Hi, I know this should be under another section, but I got no privileges to post anywhere in the develoment sections.
So, my problem is : I don't really know how android os organizing it's fonts, and how it finds the right one for he right language, but I strongly need multiple language support (namely some arabic-variants scripts : urdu, pashto, farsi) and some asian ones (thai, lao, chinese)
arabic and farsi support is no problem (well .. almost) with my spike cyanogen rom, thai and chinese neither. I've got a pashto softkeyboard, as well as an urdu one, and even a lao one, got fonts that cover those scripts as well, now : where should I put those fonts ? I see on my /system/fonts DroidSansThai, DroidSansArabic etc .. so I suppose (noob inside ..) the file names are relevant, problem is pushing a font with for examle DroidSansUrdu doesn't solve anything.
or shoud I get arial unicode as huge as it is as the DroidSans font ? (bothers me a bit as I'd like to be able to use more beautiful fonts).
another question, related, is : on my farsi keyboard I can add the vocalization (short vowels), but not not on the arabic one ??? anyone has a clue about that ?
thanks.

Hey Guys,
I know Mobidiv has a great app to enable Arabic support for WM devices, but it only supports Arabic, and does not have the alphabets for Urdu or Persian. I heard before that the official 6.5.X ROM release will have full arabic support, but its not fully functional in the present beta leaks. We can see the alphabets but they have breaks after every alphabet and also are not set in the right to left format as are all of these languages written! maybe a registry tweak can take care of this problem! any one know where to start?
I once saw an earlier build of Mobidiv which had an accompanying "remove spaces from alphabets fix" cab file, maybe that can help us?! I'll search and update here if I get hold of it... in the mean time any input is welcome!
Hi,
I need help in displaying RTL languages (Arabic/Urdu/Hebrew etc) correctly in Windows Mobile.
I am not looking for help in writing a program. All I need is be able to read RTL text correctly e.g be able to read SMS that contains mixed LTR and RTL text.
I have installed Arial Unicode font that has Arabic characters and now I am able to see individual Arabic characters (which were earlier displayed as boxes) but they are not joined and they are in LTR direction.
Any solutions?
Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if its possible to add locales as an app without rooting the phone.
If so, is there anyone capable of doing that with arabic?
If not, does anyone have an idea if there will be an update that adds arabic so that i can read and write it?
Before froyo arabic was just the squares that pop up when it doesnt know the language.
With froyo, arabic can be seen but its letter for letter, in real script in arabic the letters are connected so its kind of awkward reading something like that letter for letter.
So please anyone with an idea, let me know what can be done or what will be done if you know of anything
yaa you can download this app from the market Morelocale 2 you can choose whatever locale you want buttttt that doesnt mean your device will support arabic you will have to root the couse if you add the locale the arabic letters will show like SQUARE LETTERS
you need arabic fonts and that doesnt happend without root unless if your device support arabic already
lemme know what happens
I bought the Nexus S in the US for a friend in Poland as it would ultimately be cheaper. I noticed that the Polish language is not present in the language selection menu which is odd considering that it is present in the 2.3 SDK.
I can change the phone's locale using MoreLocale2, but system menus and other text are still in English -- the language pack itself is missing.
Is there anything that could be done to add the Polish language pack? Does the Nexus S even come with Polish in Europe?
So far from the searching I've done, it seems that there's no way to go about doing this unless I make my own ROM with the language pack included. That's unfortunate, really. I'll probably have to return the phone, then.
I also looking for this...
Dear Friends,
I have a Galaxy 5 (GT - I5500) rooted with froyo 2.2 and I want to use Persian (also called Farsi, similar to Arabic) texts on it.
I have installed Go Keyboard and its Farsi language pack, but as the characters do not exist in my device, I get a "square box" for each character.
Is there any trick I can do to introduce new language or new characters to the Rom?
Obviously, I'm not going to replace fonts, this has to be something far deeper.
Your help and support on this is highly appreciated.
