I s a Droid 2 good enough for wifi only? - Droid 2 Android Development

Do you guys remember the droid 2 I found a while back? I installed GB 2.3.3 on it and was thinking of using it as a mobile minipc so to speak. wifi only. It has 16gb internal total memory and storage. It's blank.. don't know what happened to it there is no number to call whatsoever. So I wiped it clean and loaded gb 2.3.3 on it for fun browsing at home and hotspots. Is there an app for permanent flight mode too? I foind it very useful in saving battery and using only the wifi feature on it.
edit: ooops wrong section. please move.

What do you meen by is it good enough?

Good enough to keep this in the general section.

No.
Unless you have a hand so steady that your room for error is down to the nanometer.

you can move all the bloatware on the phone to an sdcard if you have a big sdcard and your rooted so it clears up memory but to expand it i would say no

I don't know why you'd need that level of precision. I do surface mount soldering by hand all the time, and BGA re-work with hot air or IR at work. It's no longer exclusively the stuff of billion dollar companies. The act of desoldering a chip and soldering another one in its place would probably be the easy part.
Why do you need more internal storage Rockerboy? Get an SDcard.
I do got an sd card 16gb but some appz cant go on sd card nd my internal memory is running out.

...We have over 500MB of internal storage for Apps, how much crap do you have installed? move some stuff that can be moved over to your sdcard there.
Yea
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA Premium App
That isn't enough for me and I alrdy moved everything that could be moved.
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA Premium App
To do this you need two things.
1) A SOLDERING STATION, not just a soldering iron
2) god-like steady hands. <--- Might as well be a Marine Sniper
As far as I am concerned the memory controller (ala Northbridge.) should be able to recognize and compensate for a increase in memory as if it were a regular ram upgrade on a PC. As long as we aren't talking hundreds of gigs increase it should work fine, no?
This is not feasible for you to do on your own. If you have to ask, you can't do it. WTF do you have installed that takes up 500MB that can't be moved? there's only a handful of apps that can't be moved.
Wow, 500MB full? That seems unlikely if you've moved every app you can to your SD card and cleared your caches.
I haven't tried it on the Sidekick, but if you're running a custom ROM have you looked at using CustomMTD? That would free up some space (I use it on my G1)
CustomMTD is designed for HTC phones that use the MTD filesystem, rather than the RFS or EXT4 partitions used by our phones. That said, with some hacking/modding it would be possible to get something similar working on our phones, but I'm not the person to work on such a project.

Memory low due to low app space?

Guys please let me know honestly if its a pain due to small app space on vibrant 4g...
I'm about to trade my vibrant and pay and pay additional $100 on top of that for a vibrant 4g.... is that a good deal or not forth it?
Because on my vibrant 3g I never get low memory because I have dedicated 2gb of app space...
Thanx

If your rooted and have deleted all the bloatware and done the fota fix you should have about 350mb internal memory for apps. Use link2sd or apps2sd to have movable apps installed on your SD card and you should never have any space issues.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
yeah that happens to me too. if you are rooted you can also clear up your cache via recovery as well as deleting all that bloatware with Titanium back if you dont wanna do it through terminal emulator, which the SGS4g has alot.....
So the only way to move apps to sd is to root?

I've rooted my device Samsung Galaxy S 4G from T-Mobile and I am using task killer, but still having issues with the memory.
Anyone have a solution to the lagging problem?

Vibrant plus 100 is steep man... Think it over. Vibrants still go for about 200-250. Sell that then use the money plus the extra hundred you were about to spend and grab a Sensation or something. I see a lot of new Sensations for about 300-350 on CL.
Good luck.
HTC Glacier running MIUI
If you use custom rom or root and delete fota files you will get about 300MB left on your phone. Theres also the option to move some app to 16GB sd card (most will suport this feature, but some don't).
OK guys I tried all the app2sd apps in the market... all of them show 0 movable apps... so please help me out with this: is there a one click root apparently for this phone? And where can I download it... and which files are safe to remove and how do I remove them... I'm new to rooting and u would need to break it down like to an infant... I only plan on removing all the bloatware crap... this phone has way too much of it!

AT&T Busted me for tethering. Solution?

Is there any way for me to disguise my usage so they can not see that I'm tethering or am I busted and should give up?
Thanks!

Hard to do! The data usage patterns of a mobile device n that of a computer vary a lot. The bandwidth used within a period of time is a sure shot indicator of the same. Best would be to get a home internet.
It seems like they are wising up --- or determined some new way of detecting it. Give us more information.
I also tether a lot and now im concerned! I was just discussing this on the Captivate forum. Another user recently got caught: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269283

Im using the s7 rom with the new ki modem. So whatever the default apn is for that.
I've used 8gb this week

I am not sure if they do it off data usage or mac address. I know when I stream Siruis radio that is uses the same data that my laptop does. I have hit 5mb of usage in a month with I play about 6-7 hours of Siruis each day at work.

8GB this WEEK???? Give up and pay for tethering. There's no way you're going to be able to play that off as phone usage.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
AT&T has the ability to do deep packet inspection to determine what OS is sending the packets - there are some fingerprints they can use to tell that it isn't an Android device.
This is a resource-intensive process so they normally don't do it.
But if you use 8GB in a WEEK, you can be sure they're going to investigate if that usage actually came from just the phone.
So I should be OK tethering for my kids infuses when we are away from wifi?

Maybe. I haven't gotten a nastygram yet and I tether my tablet all the time, but that's it.
I'm responsible about data usage though - even with moderate tethering I've never gone more than 500-700 MB per month.
I haven't gotten anything yet either (knock on wood) but I did get one of those "you are in the top 5%" emails this month. So I will be watching my usage a lot more considering multiple, members on various forms here are recently reporting this from AT&T.

OMG. 8 gigs in a week. Lulz. How? No torrents on teathering. My 2 cents
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
I know this seems like a joke, but really, switch to Sprint. Unlimited means UNLIMITED, on 3G or 4G (although you're much safer tethering on 4G since they don't give a damn how you use it). That, and we have the GSII.
All carriers have a teathering plan in the works, even sprint. Soon teathering will only work with the proper plan. People have taken this for granted and abused the unlimited data which was not designed for 8gb a week usage. I know that is extreme. Think about it. The unlimited was made when the average person had no idea a phone could do it. Hell I ran my whole shop off a teathered connection to my tilt when our internet went down. But that was rare. Now every kid in the world has a phone that can do it, do they use it responsibily? Nope they are streaming movies in class, music.....you get the point lol. I can't blame the carriers. As more and more people live their lives with their faces buried in a phone or tablet, the data network that runs these device will need to be changed from what we are used to. With the new system you will not be able to hide what device is using the connection. So now its time to man/woman up and either get home internet or pay for the teathering.
I got the email ....i dont tether.
I tethered 1 time last week to test functionality on gtgs new thrill rom....
Is there maybe an apn issue where they think i am tethering when i am not????
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Tethering a infuse thru a infuse would make it look as though I'm not tethering at all, no? No Pc or different operating system involved.

[Q] slow 3g

i was wondering does anyone experience slow 3g that is all that i have at my house and my average dl speeds are between 70 kbps to 110i kbps and my up is like 30 to 50 kbps second kind of thought this was pretty crappy i am running humble 5.0 my 4g when in one is like 18 to 20 down and 6 to 8 up so 4g is amazing but it is not with my city about 15 miles to nearest 4g area any suggestions??
Wow like 70 views and really responses awesome

Mine comes and goes. Sometimes it will get to 2mbs down and other times it might be .6 down... I didn't put it on with the new modems, but on previous ROMS with past modems, I would run the 3g turbocharger by zeppelinrox and it made a BIG difference.. about twice as fast and a ping under 100
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Don't really know how to run scripts or adb my pink is like 2 to 3 hundred what the risks running this script?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Id say its low risk. He has built in where you can undo the changes. Its easy... just put the script on your sd card > load in script manager (free in market) > run as root > then follow the directions that pop up. There are different settings to try. The "fast" setting worked best for me. His post has very good directions and it was the 1st time doing anything like that for me and it went without a hitch... I hope it works well for you!
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
So I am assuming you just put the. Txt file in the root of SD card correct
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Doesn't have to be. I keep all that stuff right on the main part of the sd. I forgot to mention that it says to use busybox 1.182 (I think) or lower. You can get the busybox installer from the market - by jrummy is the one I used. Im reciting this all from memory so I would def. read the post first. Good luck

NFC is Near Field Communication. A feature built in to the device that lets you transfer files to nearby devices.
You can disable it in the settings if you're concerned

Thats a feature thats there but we just dont get acces to it if we are on GB I would freeze it with TIBU or bloatfreezer instead of having it eatingresources or battery
