Just noticed in 'Settings > About Phone> Battery Use' that 'Maps' has used 52% of the battery. I didnt start the app up.. Excuse my android noobishness but how do I stop it from starting?
And is there an easy way to gracefully terminate the process?
Or is it a cumulative count (ignoring reboots)?
settings > aplications > running services
It should be in there somewhere. Just select it and press stop. Also make sure GPS is off.

Here is the stats; Opera(40%) and NY Times(23%) battery use whilst on standby!
These apps are killing my battery. Any one else having the same experience. Any advice?
Thanks

If you don't use a built in app (like the NY Times), you can turn it off completely as follows:
Settings > General > Application Manager > scroll over to the All section, select the app, then select Turn off

Hi, guys!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 now running Android 6.0.1 update but until Marshmallow was released I was always having Power Saving mode on cause I didn't need all the performance all day, every day. After the new update, however, I noticed that not only the power saving mode turns the status bar grey (and it just can't be removed) but it also disconnects my Facebook Messenger. It keeps showing "Waiting for network" in the app or chat bubbles even though the network is just fine and the phone has internet. I am not sure if it does the same thing with WhatsApp cause I don't use it so often but I need Messenger on all the time.
I've tried searching on Google and here as well but couldn't find anything. I'm sorry if there is already a post about it, I must have missed it. I know Power Saving mode reduces background data and all that but it didn't disconnect Messenger before the update. Is there any way it can be solved?
Thank you in advance!
I'm having exactly the same problem. Haven't found a way to fix it. :/

I have had the exact same problem, all since I updated to 6.0. Its a joke to be honest, none of my apps work unless you open them whilst on power saving mode, and if I dont use power saving mode my phone is dead within 2 hours. Why this has been allowed to happen with no way of changing the settings is beyond me. I've spent ages searching for solutions to "unable to access server" or "server not located" or "waiting to connect" etc, I've searched the internet for hours and hours. Yet the reality is that power saving mode is causing it and is therefor redundant. Scandalous.
Did you find a solution? Currently in the same boat
Hey guys, I had the same problem. So far, what has worked was exempting FB Messenger from battery optimization, which I think restricts sync privileged from an app under certain circumstances.
Battery > More (top right corner) > Optimize Battery Usage > Tap on "Apps not optimized" and switch to "All Apps" ; find Messenger and set the toggle to off.

Legend, i'll give that a shot, cheers
Clear messenger data and cache and it will run properly again

did it work? i hav same problem everytime i ddnt use my messenger for just a min or even i just playing games on messenger it always disconnecting whys like that?
Got the marshmallow update. Everything seems good but, for the data syncing limitations on power saving mode.
It doesn't seem to let you choice which apps get data. I'm not rooted, but if rooting will give me control over this aspect I may have to root. What good is a phone that has 2 hours life with syncing and 12 hours but hey people want to email you, or your boss wants to use yammer with you and Samsung said muhahahahaha and nope.
Anyone?
Ok
1) with adguard on and powersaving mode on, there is no Internet, period.
I have sent a bug report to adguard.
2) whatsapp works
3) email does not work unless you open it manually.

Anyone have a adblocker that works with powersaving mode on?

Power saving mode.
I think i can help you.
Go to Setting > Battery > Battery Usage > More > Optimize Battery Usage > "Apps not optimized" option. Choose "All apps" and turn off Apps that you need to sync data in background.
Sorry my bad English.

Thank you, that setting does not have the Google mail listed. I have added both yammer and adblocker to always on. The adblocker still does NOT work.
Thanks for pointing out the settings. The Gmail application is not listed in there. I have added the application yammer to it. The adblocker still does NOT work even with it listed as always on.
Hi,
I have an Umidigi S2 Pro running UmiOS based on Nougat. The phone has 6GB of RAM but still randomly (?) cleans apps in background when only using <2GB. This means that most apps are stopped and then take a long time to start up or to switch between them. The Ummidigi forums have been no help for this. I have tried the battery settings and all other 'optimisation' settings but none have made any difference. In particular, WhatsApp and Gmail are always 'cleaned' within minutes of use. Facebook is cleaned randomly.
Is there any hack or app to stop this from happening? There seems to be a lot of conflicting system apps and settings in Android 7, all trying to close apps in background and no way to stop them.
Thanks,
I am not sure about your device brand. But for my phone, tried 3 steps as below. Just for your reference.
Settings -> Battery -> "Settings Gear",
Ture off the option to "Close excessively power-intensive apps"
Settings -> Apps, click the "Settings" at the bottom, tap "Special Access" -> Ignore battery optimisation,
Select the apps you want to keep alive by switching to "Allowed".
Settings -> Battery -> Lockscreen Cleanup,
Disable the options for all apps you want to keep alive.
I've noticed that at default, the phone's RAM management isn't all too convenient when it comes to multitasking.
Sometimes I'll be playing a game, then go to check something on Twitter, and then open the game back up and it's restarted.
Found a neat little trick to help:
1. Go to Settings > Additional Settings > Recent Tasks Manager
2. Toggle apps that you don't want restarted all the time to On
And that's it really, the phone is fine for lighter apps, but when it comes to some games it doesn't handle multitasking too well, but if you "lock" the game with the above method then it won't close it as often.
Also might be worth going into the Phone Manager app > Settings > Self Check > Off. This also helps.
EDIT: Just worked out that this also works for custom launchers (ie Nova). It would often reload my home screen after closing an app, but after adding Nova to the list it doesn't do it anymore
