Hi,
I've had my Nexus S for a few months now and I'm generally pleased with it.
I have an annoying issue that a custom ringtone for a specific phone number of one of my contacts doesn't work.
Other contacts work just fine, the other number for that specific contact fires up the custom ringtone.
All my contacts are Google-contacts which I assume is not very unique.
This has happened on the stock ROM as well as on custom ROMs, and is still recurring even after I unlocked the bootloader which wiped all the phone data.
Anyone else has seen this problem?
Any idea what could cause it/how to fix it?
Thanks,
Niv
is one of these issues:
- no caller id
- the caller name in your address book has weird characters that the system doesn't like
- the caller number is not matching the address book
- the ring tone name contains weird characters that the system doesn't like
- something else even more mysterious than the typical 4 scenario above

Let me rule out some of them:
- The caller id is working and identifying the number (and contact by name) correctly
- The caller number contains only numbers (no dashes or something else)
- The caller name has only English characters
- The ringtone doesn't have anything weird in the name. Also I tried other ringtones (that work for other contacts) with no luck
I'm pretty much stumped by it...
is the name of the person very long?
trying to think of any other typical issues, but i'm kinda running out of ideas
this is a weird on indeed.
does it work if you assign it a sound from the list of build in ring tones?
Eureka!
Found the problem eventually...
I had this contact defined multiple times (for some unknown reason). The default stock contacts application doesn't show all the contacts. After I installed Go contacts I saw that contact and deleted the duplicates, now it works fine

hi dudez,
Sometimes when i got call i dont see name of call just show me number, There is a fix for this problem?
Thanx anyway,
ZPDY
that means the person calling you is not in your address book
I don't think zdpy means a person not in his address book!
I have noticed the same thing - intermittently.
The individual ringtones of CallerID aren't working at all on my Magician (I ALWAYS get the default ringtone), and sometimes even the name is not displayed.
I suspect this happens because I seem to have too many contacts (>600, overall >1500 phone numbers)...
I have been removed CallerID and still sometime show me only number with no name even the number store in my addressbook.
Hello!
I have quite a strange problem. It appeared after I updated my Polaris to Windows 6.1 and the radio to the newest one. In general, I am really satisfied with the new sys, however there is one problem: telephone calls are not recognized basing on the contact list (which I imported using sprite backup).
It means that even though I have e.g. PersonX with telephone number 1234567 in my contacts, when I receive a call from him there appears the telephone number only (it is not changed into the "PersonX"). Have any of you ever had such a situation? I would be grateful for any suggestions how to solve it...
Best regards,
Theriel
Do You have only one contact with the same number? Not doubled - one in Phonebook and second with the same number on SIM?
Or if you have same contact under different names with the some number two or more times...
Joe Pesci with number +1-555-5555 and
Joe's house with number +1-555-555 and
Pesci, Joe with number +1-555-555
will confuse any mobile phone, and device will write only number. Check toroughly your contacts for duplicate numbers...
Nope, they are not doubled, and there are no contacts on the SIM. There is however another difference that appeared (I do not know if it has anything to do with the problem but...): previously I had all the contacts in the form:
"Johnson, Mike".
Now I have everything in the form "Johnson Mike" - there is no comma. But I am not sure if it tells you anything (maybe just a cosmetic change between roms?)
What is interesting - I can normally call using the contacts list (even from the "Phone" window) - they appear there properly.
Dear Sir or Madame,
I would like my phone to ring silently (as if the sound profile were set to "silent") when an "Unknown" caller calls it. By "Unknown" I mean callers who block their number. I do not mean callers who aren't in my address book, whose number is displayed when they call. I do not want the phone to hang up on the calls, redirect them to some other number, or any other type of fancy response.
I have tried over a dozen "call / sms blocker" type apps from the market, and every single one of them has two problems: 1) They are way, way, over complicated, and 2) None of them work properly - each has one or more bugs which interfere with normal usage of my phone.
Does anyone know of an app which would simply "ring" silently for "Unknown" callers, and doesn't do much, if anything, else?
My phone is an HTC Inspire 4G. I can run either Froyo or Gingerbread, in case that is an issue in finding a solution to my problem.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Showtune
I want to be able to add all calls from work to ring special without adding a thousand contacts to my address book ( or one contact with a thousand numbers) so, for instance the phone number is (555)333-xxxx.
I know that ANY call from prefix 333 is my work calling..
Is there a way to setup a contact to accept this? or is there an app for that?
( im not an original thinker, cuz ive thought of it means someone else has and has probably provided a solution)
Hey everyone anyone have an idea of what might cause this? I am with Rogers so name as well as number are sent with caller ID. On a lot of calls, my phone will ring and it will show a number like 416-123-1234 as calling with no name at all. If I don't answer, then the notification bar and call logs will show "Missed Call from ABC COMPANY". Anyone know why it doesn't always show the name when the call is actually coming in and then does later? I don't have any caller ID apps or things like that, and I even enabled google's caller ID feature but still doesn't do it. Most calls will show the name, but just a handful always do this.

Have the same issue. And I don't see the the caller picture.
For the callers that I have in my contacts as well.
I am on Rogers and can confirm the same issue. It happens sometimes, whilst other times I see the company name and picture even though it is not saved in my Contacts.
