Launcher with favorite widgets? - Thunderbolt General

Just wondering if there are any launchers that is similar to Sense but without all the bloat sense has? I really like sense's favorites and friends stream. Does Launcher Pro do all that?

If you buy the full version of launcher pro, it includes a set of widgets that are modeled after the sense widgets. The calendar and people widgets are nearly identical, and the social network widgets are actually superior imo.

Sweet! Excellent first post their buddy!

What about Go Launcher? Does it have similar widgets as you described?

In the admittedly short time I've played with GO Launcher, It doesn't appear to have extra widgets. However, as mentioned before, Launcher Pro Plus has a contacts widget that you can set to show favorites. I highly recommend LP plus. I've been using Launcher Pro for over a year on every device I've had. I just can't find a launcher thats as smooth and bug free.

fancy widges and beautiful widgets are both good and give a decent sense like clock.

I would definitely recommend lpp. The widgets are quite similar to what sense has to offer, except I really like the sense news widget which lpp does not have. I have yet to find a similar news widget on the market that compares to sense, does anybody know if there is one available?

+1 for SPB Mobile Shell... I've been beta testing it since January on different devices and it's my daily driver...

Here's a question, I'm coming to the bolt from the original Moto Droid. Lovin the Bolt but hate the Phone app, the moto would list frequently dialed number on the opening screen and you could search easier as well. Wondering if there is a mode that changes just the phone app. The rest of sense I like but the phone app drives me crazy!

I went ahead and purchased LPP. Running smooth. Next purchase will be beutiful widgets. Thanks guys!

You can use Go Contacts. This includes Go Dialer.
I do not like the HTC Sense dialer/contacts much either. Cannot wait for CM.

No, you're stuck with Sense 3.0 until custom ROMs are possible.

I like the weather and clouds going across the screen, but need the Launcher Pro for the buttons at the bottom..

This is funny... I thought I was the only one who didn't like it. I really thought I was going to, but I find it just gets in the way.
I switched to LauncherPro (which I'm really happy with) and I stopped all the HTC related syncing stuff in the accounts setup. I'm not sure how much was saved, but it didn't seem to help much RAM and battery wise.
FWIW my wife hasn't had any complaints about it, and we both came from stock Android phones.
I can't wait to root this thing...
Did Launcher Pro not lag for you guys? I checked out the demo in the store and Launcher Pro chugged like none other. Who knows what they did to that demo before I picked it up though.
I really like LP. I saw a youtube video of the Sens. running it....looked great to me.
I'm running lpp on my sensation. It's a lot smoother than sense. No lag whatsoever.

I am also running Launcher Pro and it runs great. No lag. On a side note, is it worth the $3.50 to get the 'Plus' version of Launcher Pro?
I installed Zeam to see if it would be slow. It ran fine. I actually noticed that some aspects of Sense shutdown when you use another launcher.
Try ADW Ex just for the mere fact that is supports hardware acceleration unlike LPP and the other homescreen replacements.

yea and stock with stupid widgets cause cant use sense widgets(again) when using lpp or adw or any other launcher

Launcher Pro + Beutiful Widgets on the Sensation - FAST!

I have had my Sensation for about a week now. Been playing with both Launcher Pro and the stock sense. Stock sense seems REALLY laggy and kinda buggy. I have been using Launcher Pro for about a year and a half or so and when I loaded it on here and customized it makes the Sensation come alive! If anyone out there hates the lag try Launcher Pro until HTC comes up with an update to fix this.
One downfall is you do lose all of the HTC widgets. The phone still functions the same. And your notification bar and everything else is still there. Just the widgets won't show up when using it. There are widget apps out there like Beautiful Widgets or others that are free.
Just wanted to post this on here. A lot of people talking about lag. This is a great fix for it and speeds up your Sensation to what it should be!
Not trying to pimp Launcher Pro. Just tryin to give suggestions.
Cheers!
Yup, I myself am using adw ex & the phone is now flying. Do miss the sense widgets though. Little bit of give & take I suppose.

I am using the EXACT setup lol. I always use launcher pro with beautiful widgets. Best combo for me.
I am also using launcher pro. I did get the plus version with the extra widgets. I am somewhat disappointed in them and not sure it was worth the price. However, LP runs great, better than Sense, and I use it along with fancy widgets.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
It's fast for sure. I also use 5 row homescreen grid to fit more icons and widgets to certain screens. Plus version of Launcher Pro is definitely worth the money.
Me too
Ive done the same, ditched sense a few hours after unboxing, Launcher Pro Plus, Beautiful Widgets and Widgetsoid. Fewer FCs and much faster.
Doesn't sense still run in the background even if you use an alternative launcher?
+1 lpp working good for me with the combination of miui fancy widget.

Yes it does, there's no getting rid of it until we're rooted.
Home screens arr very smooth with launcher pro... But my app drawer.lags quite a bit. Same with adw
Anyone else use Folder Organizer?
I really don't like swiping. Much rather click. So I only use one home screen, with folders. Click, click, to access any app, shortcut or bookmark I want. Very fast, zero lag.
Folder Organizer has the advantage of allowing custom icons for the folders, so home page looks like a screen of apps, instead of a bunch or generic folder icons.
One disadvantage, can't link to a widget from inside a folder. But, 3rd party launchers have a similar issue, and I can still put widgets on other home screens if needed.
We have 2 sensations and both running BW and LPP. Our home screens are still not smooth in transitions and often laggy. This is on 2 tmobile sensations. My previous G2x was much faster and smoother.
Also I believe LPP is messing with my geolocation. Not sure how, but when I remove LPP I don't have geolocation issues(tells me I am in a different state).
I prefer Regina right now but I love messing with launchers
Idk what kind of setup you guys are running or maybe your definition of lag is different then mine, but I have no lag at all.

Go launcher is the only one that works for me. Very smooth and snappy all the way around. Can't wait for s-off so we can unlock the full potential of this CPU.

I see... Idk if I can put if with lag for that long. haven't had a phone that lagged since my droid Eris. Honestly my droid 2 global was a little more snappy than the sensation. But that was oc'd of course.
Launcher pro is awesome but its still not as fast on the sensation as it is on my nexus one. It will prob be after root. Still, much better than sense.

Destop visualizer in sense
I have been an ADW launcher user for quite a while
on HD2 (2 of), Desire HD and now sensation.
But I have also been using Desktop Visualizer to add custom icons to empty sense pages - best of both worlds.
i also have ADW as a home page choice - have not set either as the default yet.
Only had sensation for 4 days.

What is the best alternate launcher for the G2X?

Now that I finally got my G2X updated to GB I was wondering what alternate launchers, if any, people are using and how they like them. The stock launcher is nice but lacks customization features such as resizable widgets, changing icons layouts, removing homescreens, etc.
Go launcher
I can't say enough good things about Weapon 2.3 ROM and it's included TouchWiz launcher from Samsung.
If you are running factory GB on your G2x I can assure you The Weapon ROM is every bit as stable as stock if not better, with way better battery life and a bunch of other cool gee whiz features.
LauncherPro. I've been using since May 2010.

Launcher Pro - the widgets can't be beat, especially now with theme and icon pack support. At times I try another launcher, but I always come back to launcher pro for the widgets.
I've yet to find people, bookmarks, and friends widget comparable to launcher pro except sense ui. There are others that mimick the functionality, but they usually slow down the device quite a bit. Launcher Pro remains fast.
I think LP has the best ALL Around setup. The built in Widgets are great and backup/restore will save passwords so you don't always have to login again to Twitter and Facebook.
Unfortunately the developer has been ignoring it for some time and is starting to lack some features. While it JUST got theme support, it doesn't seem to be moving very fast. Very limited. Plus they don't have "whole" theme support so icons and widget themes are separate.
I'm using LP now but going back and forth to Go Launcher. Go Launcher has downloadable widgets that are comparable and cool in their own way. Also "Colorize Widgets" also make a good LP Widget Replacement.
So the 3 main ones are ADW EX, Go Launcher EX, and Launcher Pro.
There are other weird ones like Samsung TouchWiz, LG Launcher, Sony Xperia Launcher, etc.
Honestly just find one that works they way you want. I'm currently using ADW EX on my Asus Transformer because it recently added much needed support and features for tablets (which the others lack). On the G2x either one of the 3.
go launcher.. also has widgets.
but you can add to that with colorize widgets. an awesome pack made by an xda user.
the combination is unbeatable in my opionion.
I've grown quite fond of ADW, myself. Though, I haven't tried LP.
I also used a launcher called Crazy Home, awhile back. On top of having extra home screens, it gives you up to 3 desktops...each with 5 home screens. So, if you REALLY like home screens, you can have up to 15 lol. It also allows you to hide apps in your app drawer. I ended up going with ADW, because I could load my own icons, and use them...CH was a bit more limited.
I'm a huge fan of Zeam. I used it on my old HTC Magic because it was fast fast fast on the old hardware, and I continue to use it on my G2x.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to be trying my first ROM out and that's what I'm leaning towards right now.
To the OP, I love Launcher Pro. So much to customize.

I'll second the TouchWiz launcher. I'm using it standalone with Miui. It looks awesome. I've been a ADW guy since my G1 days and continued using it with the Nexus One and G2X, but I gave TW a try a few weeks ago and haven't looked back.
By far the best is launcher pro

GOLauncher EX

I would suggest anyone to use GOLauncher EX as a alternative to HTC Sense due to the fact that it is the most compatible with phone right now (better than LaucherPro in some aspects).
Download it off the market - direct to the handset.
Thank You.

Yeah, sorry did not notice your post dude - either way it is still a good Launcher.
Good?!? Hmph, it's awesome!!
I honestly like it more than adw, even if the dock is on the right side of the screen; it gives it a fresh air. Something new that I haven't saw in other android phones.
Yeah - you're right, it is awesome and i have included in CAMDROID 2.0 (TONIGHT).
Also, did you find out about Windows Mobile for me dude?

It is not always about widgets - sometimes a launcher can be awesome but with less widgets and anyway you only have to click one button and you will be right at the apps section.

[Q] What is your favorite launcher for the One X?

Just wondering what launcher you guys use for your HTC One X.
Smoothest / best looking?
I'm currently still just using the stock sense launcher myself...but hear that nova launcher and trebuchet launcher work well.
What would you recommend?
Yea +1 .. I'm new to android and was wondering if using launchers other than stock sense use up more battery? I love the different functions available but am not willing to spare any battery life for it, what do you guys think, I tried apex for a day but was worried about battery life so I uninstalled it
I've always been a launcher pro person but recently was turned onto nova and haven't looked back since. I love it, very simple, smooth and fast. Highly suggest it!

Uh...negligible? In my experience, as long as launcher doesn't do crazy stuff requiring major 3d rendering or has lots of weird animations then battery life is a non-issue.
Apex Launcher fan here. Has been more fun, interesting and I found it to be more smooth and quick then Nova.
Not trying to be dumb, but I am new to android. What do these launchers, apex/nova, do that is so different than what our phones already do? Seems like sense has all of these features already.
and 2, wouldn't this be running on top of sense, meaning two launchers are running at the same time? how does that work and not slow things down?

No, it doesn't run on top of Sense, it runs INSTEAD of Sense. Third party launchers allow you to do things that the stock launcher did not implement, like assigning custom icons, overlapping widgets, creating more/less rows and columns on your homescreen, creating more homescreens than the original allowed (not the case with Sense 4.0...but I remember TouchWiz on my old Captivate only allowed 5 homescreens while Android itself allows up to 7), gesture controls, and plenty of other things.
Above all, third party launchers are updated regularly to fix bugs and add new features. You don't have to wait for all the bueacracy involved with the manufacturer and carrier to get an update pushed to your device.
Apex Launcher Pro. Super smooth. Haven't had a redraw yet.
Hww do I add all the widgets using the Apex/Nova launchers? I don't see all the widgets like the default clock with weather widget? Do I need to root my phone to gain access to these widgets?

There are plenty of apps and widgets that mimick the Sense ones. Beautiful Widgets, for example.
I would go for the apex launcher. The customization on it is absolutely amazing. It also looks very close to stock ICS so it will seem like it is Sense-less.
Over the last week I've pretty much tried them all and kept coming back to go Launcher.
