CyanogenMod 7 - General Questions and Answers

I already have CyanogenMod 7 (RC4) on my phone, but now that there is a stable release I would like to get it. My question is: can I install it over RC4 without having to wipe data and cache?

Save your Files and do a FullWipe, it's recommend and a must i think.
You are on the Safty-Side when you do that

I just flashed the final release over a daily build, the thread said so, and it works fine.

You don't have to wipe, only if there is a problem. I have been updating since around nightly 29 and haven't wiped once and that includes all the rc's and the new stable but make sure you backup just in case.

Please can anyone said how to add some other language in nightly build? There is my language in elder builds but now it was removed from last nightly.

Worked just fine for me.

I find that I can't add more language without recompiling ROM. Wrote to author with this problem.

Please, somebody, tell me how to disable annoying vibration then i unlock my phone with slider. Can't find settings for this. I'm using CyanogenMod V7.0.2 on wildfire.
Solved: just disable lock screen)

I find this funny because the day after you posted this thread the new version of V7.0.3 came out look 5 May 2011! Im sure you have already found out this information out for youself but this will answer your question just look here ok -

I'm a proud user of oxygen, but one thing that does not like me is that I need a new APP for Bluetooth file transfers (medieval...).
Does CM suppport this stock?

What do you mean? can you u use that app with CM7???? If thats what you were asking? the answer is yes!
PLEASE NOTE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A HTC DESIRE THE LINKS BELOW ARE NOT FOR YOU GO HERE & FIND YOUR PHONE & THEN FOLLOW THE GUIDE BELOW INSTEAD!

Just if you are coming from another rom make sure you do a full wipe & wipe the dev cache before you flash the Cyanogen rom! If you already run a cyanogen rom on your phone now dont bother doing a wipe just flash the new rom! i would install clockwork mode 3.*.*.* with Cyanogen 7.0.3 ( or you will get stuck on a bootloop after installing! ) go here for it - http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/20122-cyanogenmod-7-for-the-htc-desire-hd-v703-5-may-2011/ or if you dont wanna install the latest stable version ( & i dont know why you wouldnt want to ) or go here & install an older version the Cyanogen 6.1.3 from here - http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/11011-cyanogenmod-61-for-desire-hd-v613-01012011/ ( if you want 6.1.3 version make sure you use clockwork version 2.*.*.* or you will get stuck on a bootloop after installing! )
Hope this helps

What does this mean exactly ? its updated nightly ? or ... haha
a nightly-build contains all the newest changes which come step-by-step.
all the changes will be offered in a new release candidate if there are stable and harmonize.
so if you always want the newest fixes, patches and so on..you have to flash the nightly-builds. but there is no guarantee that it is stable.
if you want a stable build you have to wait for the rc
sorry for my bad english

Team Douche do work on the rom every day. You can see what commitments they make to the code on the git hub. Every night an automated build bot compiles the code into a flashable rom. As stated in the op, these are experimental builds which add new features but may be quite buggy. In my experience with the nexus one they are usually very stable apart from the odd annoying glitch.
Most importantly for bleeding edge lovers like myself you get to check out new features before, often weeks before, people using the stable branch.

But, now Cyanogen has got all organised, at this stage in the cycle i.e prior to release of the stable version it tends to mainly be bug-fixes rather than additional features so in my experience these late nightly release are often better than the RC's on which they are based

Good point. Until Cyanogenmod 7 (Gingerbread) we probably won't see any new features.

The ROM is great but it drains the battery too quickly. Can someone help me on this.
Great to get nightlies, new to Android but well used to this from XBMC, open source ftw.

hi i'm new to Android and have a few questions. Just flashed this rom and it looked amazing except that I didn't have market or any other apps. Is it just me (do those apps fall under the Google stuff mentioned earlier? And is it possible to get my contacts from leedroid (just switched after full wipe) also would it help if I flashed the "normal" CM and install the nighty Rom s update ?Anyone can help me? yup market, gmail, maps etc come under the GAPPS package which you have to flash after flashing cyanogen mod.
If you sync your contacts to your gmail then it should be restored after entering your account details with the new rom
And it doesn't matter if you install the normal CM and then install the nightly, you can just jump straight into the nightly if you want. As previously stated, normal is a stable release whereas nightly is untested but usually stable.

yes you need to get the google addons for theDHD its HDPI-20101114
http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/
but if you downloaded the rom from rom manger it asks you if you want the google add-ons after the rom as well.
when you install google add-ons sould get your contacts back
only need to do full wipe if you coming from a different rom, eg leedroids rom, if already using CM 6.1 rc2 or rc1 just need to flash the nightly over it.
Thx a lot you both saved my day

[UNOFFICAL] [CRACKFLASHER] [ROM] CM7 Build #29

So the crackflashers have done it again - Gingerbread is now on the Desire / Bravo
Based on CM 7 Source
Thanks to Cyanogen, #teamdouche and @gridlock32404 (Thatguy32404) - These are unoffical builds based on their code as such..
Code:
These builds have nothing extra added, they are just like the usual
"nightly" builds. There is no support provided, this is just a hobby and
I thought I would share. If you don't know how to flash a unofficial build,
don't want possible bugs or don't like living on the edge, go away!
Do a nandroid backup first!
OK so here is how to get it up and running:
Step 1 - Download the latest build from http://www.crackflashers.com look in the builds folder for the latest file - The build will increment by 1 each time there is a new build so if there is one there greater than b#29 download it << In case I don't get the thread updated at the same time
Step 2 - Download the Gingerbread apps from NEEDS UPDATED TO POINT TO DESIRE / BRAVO. crackflashers.com/ace/[/URL] look in the google-apps folder for the file gingerbread-gapps-12302010.zip
Step 3 - Place all these files onto your sd card reboot into recovery
Step 4 - Flash the files using the install zip from sdcard option (do the rom first then the gapps)
Step 5 - Reboot phone and enjoy the Gingerbread goodness

This is the first build that I actually made for the desire so to say we don't exactly know what other additions made outside the source/gingerbread will or won't work. The only way to try is to make a nandroid backup after you flash this in and try it
Ps. The new recovery image is not supported in rom manager so everything will need to be done in the recovery manually even thought the code of the recovery is made by koush it is not an official release by him at all, just built from it. it is the only recovery currently that can handle ext 4 /system partion that cm7 source is based on.
You will not be able to restore a pre-cm7 source build on this recovery or flash a pre cm7 rom on it either (hence the backup recovery.img if you decide to go back) you can backup and restore any cm7 source rom on this recovery
Yes the new recovery is needed to flash gapps and newer updates as they become availible.
This is on the list of many devices I am compiling for. Currently g2, mt4g, evo4g, droid, desire hd, desire and sometimes the n1. If you can't seem to find an answer to something there is a good chance you will find it in one of those sections. Just look for posts from me

For those having problems with Gapps on newer htc phones like g2, mt4g and desire hd try the new gapps I have posted up at http://gridlock.euroskank.com and grab the EMMC ones
Everyone else can grab the MTD gapps
This should remove having to mount /system in recovery but run fix permissions in the advanced section of the recovery just in case

There isn't any nightlies that I know of! Cwm3 is the recovery that is in the cm7 source code and it builds a recovery for the device that you compile for. Only when someone changes something in the recovery does it change

Once you flash a cm7 source based rom the system becomes ext4, other roms/cm6 are only ext 4 so in order for the /system to mount in recovery for making nandroid backups or to flash anything it needs to have a recovery that can support ext4, which currently is the recovery posted with these builds which is based on clockworkmod recovery because koush hasn't released a official recovery yet (also since it is unofficial rom manager does not support it, so everything has to be done manually in the recovery)

Info: Cyanogenmod 7.0.0 final release

hi flash adicts!!!! this morning i was read in my email inbox a new message from www.HTCMANIA.ES. at this message they tell that it is available a CYANOGENMOD 7.0.0 FINAL RELEASE VERSION!!!!
I am not going to put the link for if it is illegal or bother someone, in addition better directly to pass for the page of CYANOGENmod like that it is obtained more info about the ROM.
REMEMBER:
-Download the google apps zip (gapps) for your device!!! there are not in the rom due to the copyright...
-I recommend Do full wipe (factory reset, cache and dalvik). i was flashed CM7 FINAL RELEASE over the CM7 rc3 without wipe and i haved problems later...

my personal experience.....
PD: now i have this current rom in my DHD and its cool!!! i love new tweaks!
----the camera is better than the stock version rom. (has better brigthness and exposition -since 4 to -4, stock rom only has since 2 to -2...
the Throttler is soo fast and the photos do not work out blurry even with few light!
----the rom its soo fast and here in XDA there is a kernel that works even 1.99 gh!!! but it drained my battery in 16h (more or less)

Noob! Do I have to upgrade Kernel to get ICS on SGS2?

I want to upgrade to this ROM MIUI v4 2.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458382
I currently have the Cyanogenmod 7.1 nightly (the newest nightly they built)
Kernel - 2.6.35.14-g7d4fbb1
Do I have to upgrade that before i flash to that ROM?
Im a noob sorry.
no just make sure that you do a backup and in clockwork mod do a complete wipe data cache and davelik and you can flash whatever rom you want
No i dont think

Shoot before anyone answered I flashed to xxkp8 ...... I have CM9 release Jan 12 2012......
I am having serious issues with connecting to my computer with the USB..... nothing seems stable to me. I also tried the MIUI v4 2.2 and had the same issues..
Can anyone recommend the best a fix , do I need to flash a new kernel? Then a new ROM....or can I just flash a new ROM like go back to CM7.1 or something?
If you don't feel stable enough on the ROM you have installed now, and you're still able to flash to another ROM, just flash back to something you feel comfortable on. A lot of the ICS builds are alphas and unstable.
Make sure you read does/does not work list for each rom and take a second to look at what other users are saying about it. And, of course, make sure it's intended for your specific device. =)

First off why is this in the development thread. Any issues problems comments concerns should be in the Q&A thread. And second maybe your doing something wrong I've flashed cm11 plenty of times on my N5 with no issues from what your having. Try looking in the cm 11 thread and see if anybody else came across what your having and if they found a fix.
If launcher crashes for you.. and other things as well..
Most probably reason is you have flashed wrong Gapps.
Flash Gapps from PA gapps thread.
Maybe you flashed an iPhone ROM

If launcher crashes for you.. and other things as well..
Most probably reason is you have flashed wrong Gapps.
Flash Gapps from PA gapps thread.

So let me get this right. You have a bug of losing all your google accounts when you don't install the gapps? Maybe because all that gets wiped on a clean flash maybe, and with out gapps there is no account to set up?

hi,
i just install Cyanogenmod 11 on My new nexus 5....and omg... 7 times i reinstall ALL already... and still so buggy :
Launcher crash, lost all account ( even Google ), etc....
what's wrong ?
i don't understand why it's so buggy... because on my Nexus 4, all was working perfectly.
on nexus 5, it's just a big nightmare... i must wipe data factory and reinstall all everyday....

This sounds like user error to me. I wouldn't recommend flashing anything until you've fully researched and understand what you're doing.
Nooo...after wiping all, I install cm 11, then gapps.. Clean install. After a couple of hours of use, the phones freeze, all icons disappear.. Then it reboot. But I lose all my different account

Hi,
Stock kernel? I mean CM kernel?
No tweaks like some scripts for "placebo performance battery improvements"?
You just flashed the rom + Gapps, nothing else, right?
This sounds peculiar. Its gotta be the gapps he's flashing and the latest nightly shouldnt be rebooting on its own anymore. The front cam is borked and that's easy to fix. Is there anything else you are doing that might be causing your problem?
I agree the gapps. I an using banks gapps. What recovery are you using? I'm using cm11 1/17 nightly and it is working fine. You are looking for the hammerhead version correct?

hi guys,
Finally, i reinstall CM version M2 ( more stable i think )... then Gapps here ( full package ) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
but i didn't reinstalled the Super USER 1.80 zip.
before installation, i did some wipe ( data/factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik, and even format system partition ).
now all seem work good. no reboot. just i think the CM logo at boot ( the arrow animation ) is really slow... ( problem ? ).
the next step for me is to put the FRANCO kernel. but before i would like to save my Stock Kernel... but how to do this ?
also, i would like to install the " Dalvik optimizer mod".... but it seem not working with CM Rom ? is it right ?
thanks guys,
after 2 days : no reboot at all. i installed the Franco kernel.
all run smoother, and my battery life is almost 2 days.
i think my problem was an issue with bad Gapps...
