Is the nexus dead already? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used to own the nexus one and finally thought that this would be a worthy replacement but there does not seem such a buzz about this phone. I may be mistaken but devs of such quality roms like axura changing device? Is this phone.doomed after such a short time?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App

Somebody overtook Axura and is now continuing the rom. The phone isn't doomed. Development just takes time and its already on the latest. Not many changes need to be done to the phone.
A lot of roms on other phones are the same thing but themed.

we've got all the latest and greatest ROM here already
so, not sure what else you are looking for that is not here, and or allowed in XDA

We have been forgotten.

Is it me or does the Thunderbolt feel completely abandoned by developers?

Yep no jellybean for us yet. JB makes ics seem as slow as am ibm pcjr. We should demand HTC give us JB instead of ics

Developers need an ICS leak to make anything new, how many GB ROMs do you want? As far as the CM9 RIL has proved to be a huge problem. So no, developers still have Thunderbolts they just need something new to work with, instead of pointing fingers at them, point them at HTC.

While it's not the fault of the dev's, we have been forgotten. The thunderbolt is unfortunately old news and most likely won't have much more activity until we get ICS/JB.
Its more like HTC doesn't give a crap about our phones anymore. It's unacceptable that they haven't put out an update sooner.
I'm still here!
Most phones were forgotten (or stagnated) on Verizon when the Nexus came out. Anyone who didn't see that coming was just a tad short-sided.

Let me tell you the gnex didn't do much for me. Should have never gotten rid of my thunderbolt.

The Thunderbolt is dead; it has been for awhile. I can't wait for my GS3! Verizon needs to ship those babies soon!

It's not dead for me yet. Still waiting for the end of July / August for HTC to actually produce something. There's been beta testing supposedly but no leak.

Dont blame only HTC. Verizon is also to blame... and VZW is historically known for not providing too many updates.
I dont expect any additional development until ICS is "officially" released for the TBolt.
I dont believe we'll ever see an official release of JB for our phones.
im building a rom off of cm7 now . RomZombie.

Kinda gotta blame HTC tho, cuz a leak is just as good to me as Verizon's "official" release. Its the ril that is necessary, u get that n the rest is history -_-

Bionic already has 4 ICS leaks...and blame HTC. Anyway, the Incredible S (GSM Dinc 2) got ICS today. Here's the thing - the Thunderbolt was replaced by the Rezound a long time ago, and it's honestly not that great of a phone anyway. It was the first LTE phone, but the specs were far behind other phones that came out before it. It will be nice when it finally does get ICS (and it will, but remember the 2.3.4 update took a very long time as well), but most people (like me) who bought this phone will have already moved on, or be well on their way to a better phone by the time it finally is released. As far as being forgotten by developers - not forgotten, but they have moved on to better phones. The Thunderbolt is old hat - 1Ghz Snapdragon w/ 768MB RAM, the developers have moved on to better things, for the most part.

That and point really at Google for.this messed up veal they allow which is so stupid. We need to stop overlays on android and have the same user experence as any other device a unified way. On touch six.you select wick widget it brings up any available wick if one is not already selected on sense and stock that does not happen. Not a great user way here.

Pretty sure specs weren't far behind anything when the tbolt came out. If you're this concerned sell it and buy a bionic. Go to craigslist, they are cheap.

[Q] What phone currently has the most development?

I'm sort of new to Android and I currently have a lg vs910. I love the phone my only problem with it is there are only a couple of custom roms running on it. Don't get me wrong I love the broken out 2.0.1 and mtmichaelson did a great job. But I'm almost due for an upgrade and I want a good phone that has a few more options for custom roms. I know this question is sort of opinion based but that's what I want please let me know you're opinions.

Thank you. I kind of thought that would be most peoples answer but wanted to see If someone would mention a phone I haven't yet heard of. Thank you for the quick response though.
I had previously had a Motorola Droid X and HTC Thunderbolt and neither of them could come close to the number of choices and fast updates that I have been able to get with my Galaxy S3. Its amazing when you consider the Verizon model shipped with a locked boot loader. I had Jelly Bean on my S3 before the VZW Nexus got the update officially. Plus the hardware is great!

I would say the HTC Evo 4g because it has been around since 2010, and there are still roms being developed for it.
sorry but the galaxy nexus no one considers, in addition to being a great device brings several customizations ... (this is my thought)
I have a samsung galaxy s more than 2 years now. Great device while many, many custom roms available. And they are stable too!
My next device will be a Samsung again. I am in doubt wether it will be S3 or Note.
The galaxy nexus GSM hands down. The Nexus 4 is also going to follow up with the same level of development when it is released

Sense 5 roms

When do you guys think sense 5 Roms will be available and ported to the One XL
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
89.7 days. . Give or take three days as my margin of error
I would wish people on xda would be a bit more mature I don't need smart ass answers. I know the HTC One is being released in March. Sometimes developers receive them early etc.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
How are we supposed to know? Not a smart ass answer, but it's the truth.
Maybe when the One is released a dev can port it, but it's probably going to be a pain in the ass considering the phone is going to be running an entirely different chipset.
Devs on this forum don't receive anything from directly from HTC or another manufacturer btw except any sort of leak, but there hasn't been one around here in ages.
Once the One gets out you'll most likely see a port... I don't think the chipset is going to affect it that much if we have a good kernel

[Q] Worth to buy?

Well, want this phone but I see that it has root access and CWM and that's cool but, I don't see any ROM's made for it.
So weird, any developers got curious about Cyanogenmod or something?
It's worth to buy one for christmas?
The Moto G is being updated to 4.4.2 right now, so I don't see the need for custom ROMs right now. But regardless, the Moto G is an awesome phone.

If at this point there is no Rom that doesn't mean it will never has...
Motorola is a standard company
Today so many cheap mediatek devices has got custom Rom so don't worry go for it...
Sent from my Spice Mi-525 using xda premium
Not many people have the device yet, so give it a little while. I'm sure by Jan we'll have some CM builds, AOKP, god knows what else.
Go for it, its a new device it will take some time once the complete source files are released. The more no of people owning this device, more chances are there for custom ROM!
We already got kitkat so there's no need i guess.
BTW there is a custom ROM based on stock JB, check in the development section it is in the beta stage!
The g isn't even a month old! Give development time. It will happen.
Sent from my XT1034 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Right, I'll buy it.
No lags whatsoever?
Can't wait to see ROM's with governors and tweaks, even faster!
I have yet to experience any concerning lag. To be honest I expected less of a phone than what its proven to be. Battery life is pretty ridiculous actually. Impressed is an understatement. Only Thing I've noticed is display related. When looking from the top down it gets a little washed out. Not at all a reason to not get this phone. For $200? There is no reason to not buy this thing.

How long until the Rc's Start emerging?

I have had the nexus a good couple of months, and still haven't rooted due to the fact that after what seems a lifetime with a desire HD, until release candidates pop up, there's always something that needs flashing, or random reboots.
I've never owned a new android practically from the release date, so, I guess the question in short is, how long until Roms turn up that are as stable, If not more than stock. Something I can just flash and never worry about again?

There are plenty of very stable custom ROMs out there. Even a fair amount that are stable ART. Just look at the postings and comments. CM, AOKP and PA are always good places to start.

Hi, I come from HTC devices too. I can certify that I got shocked when I flashed the first Rom on the nexus 5 And it was as stable as the most stable Rom on Htc one S and previous phones. That just less than 1 month after N5 was released.
The advantage here is that devs have 1st class sources where on Htc they have to work harder and migrate to another phone. Or most are just ports from cousin phones. I admire from those developers the fact that without much help from HTC, they do hardly to port everything on those phones. However, there is were trouble begins: random bootloops, camera wont record, battey dies fast...etc. Not the case on nexus 5.
Il never buy a HTC again, they really ****ed up big time.
Looks like I'll end up Rooting sooner than I thought then, thanks for the info. now to wait for paranoid android to add a few more features then il be straight on it

AKAIK SlimKat would be the way to go if you're looking for RC right now. They're only 1 or 2 builds away from it. The ROM itself has been absolutely rock solid since the first week of November.
