You asking if you can OTA the update when its officially released?
If your running a custom ROM and kernel than you can't OTA it. If your just rooted and are running the stock ROM I believe you can OTA it but it will make you lose root.
If your running a custom ROM, you might as well just flash a custom FroYo ROM thats based off the Official FroYo one when its released, we all know the Dev's here make things better.

If you are running a completely stock Epic with no modifications to the kernel/ROM etc., then you will receive an OTA notification when it is available. If not, you will have to wait until the new .tar comes out in order to flash it with Odin, or you can go back to complete stock to receive the OTA.
Ok thats all i needed to no ty all for the fast responses! YOUR THE BEST GUYS! and yea im all stock so ill be getting it ota dont no the release date yet but im looking forward to it this month (I HOPE! lol) anyway just wanted to say ty and keep up your good work guys i check back very often and see wats out and new ;P
im on my stock rom and stock everything just rooted... i do have clockwork recovery though. question is does this prevent me from getting ota updates or not? i have read various things saying that if you have a custom recovery installed it will prevent the install of the ota update but you still get the file ota.... Also, if it does work to install an ota update will i lose root? thanks
Its always recommended not to flash an OTA over a rooted ROM as it can bugger things up
you are able to receive the OTA, but it is strongly recomended not to
thanks guys , anyone know when 2.3.4 will be released for US version???

Hi all,
I have flashed some customized roms and found that they are not stable. I would like to use the official rom again but just to find that the official software updater doesn't let me to flash from a customized rom...
Could you advise where I can download the official 2.1/2.1 rom image of Telus Milestone?
Thank you very much!

thank you. so what is the difference of normal version and service version?
Normal version will wipe the user data, service not.
I wouldn't change back to official rom.I rather plant my milestone and grow bigger ones )

Use one of the update files from this post, if you have changed any files since you rooted you will have to probably restore those files first, if you are completely stock then just flash through CWM. Cheers.

Yes, you can update with root as long as you have stock recovery- did you really need to start ANOTHER thread asking this question though? It has been answered by me at least ten times since the update hit my tab at 6 am (that's 5 hours ago).
Please search people!
Hi Guys,
I am updating my SGR for the first time, I had some queries, so if some one would answer, I would be really thankful.
Official ICS update is not for my country, so how should I take backup so that I don't lose my warranty.
Also which version of ICS is better, Nordic one or Austria or anyother country?
Also can you please help me with how to update like which software to use to install ICS, like someone was saying odin and others?
Thanks, Your help will be greatly appreciated

Buddy, A Very Warm Welcome to our Forum. For your queries Here is the answers:
1) Official ICS update is not for my country, so how should I take backup so that I don't lose my warranty.
A: ICS is announced to world by Samsung, so flash this wont loose any warranty but yes, rooting may be.
So, If you would flash Official ICS from Sammobile then no need to worry
2) Also can you please help me with how to update like which software to use to install ICS, like someone was saying odin and others?
A: you can install it using ODIN 3.07V - here is the procedure: Click Here for everything you need
3) Also which version of ICS is better, Nordic one or Austria or anyother country?
Approx, all versions are same except bloatwares providing by them. Few might be extra features then flash the latest one.
In the last, We have Q/A thread it doesn't mean every 2nd thread would be asking HOW to or From Where I can flash ICS.
Use Search option in thread. Coz every question you have asked, already been resolved earlier. There need to search only. Lil bit time taken, but good for our forum.
Thanks Kataria and Nilesh, So if I just update the firmware, I wont be losing any warranty.

Better Take CWM backup before updating to ICS, So if you have problem then you can revert back to GB easily.....

Yes...
mj is right...
there are cases when you downgrade..you tend to stuck on boot loop or on Samsung screen..
so the best way to downgrade is simply restore your cwm backup and then reflash the stock firmware..
Thanks MJ and Vipul

Flash CWM first and take backup, Root is not required for it....
Download any version of CWM from the below link and flash it using ODIN.

Hi, What should I add to pda section?
CWM: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?u98qal9rxwwvud0 (or)
ODIN: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?50bkbbtblok3b02
ODIN ie pda section always takes .tar file.
Thnx!
Thanks, Actually It was not moving forward so I disconnected and now phone is not opening up, Should the tar file be the one of ICS nearly about 650 mb for galaxy R
