You asking if you can OTA the update when its officially released?
If your running a custom ROM and kernel than you can't OTA it. If your just rooted and are running the stock ROM I believe you can OTA it but it will make you lose root.
If your running a custom ROM, you might as well just flash a custom FroYo ROM thats based off the Official FroYo one when its released, we all know the Dev's here make things better.

If you are running a completely stock Epic with no modifications to the kernel/ROM etc., then you will receive an OTA notification when it is available. If not, you will have to wait until the new .tar comes out in order to flash it with Odin, or you can go back to complete stock to receive the OTA.
Ok thats all i needed to no ty all for the fast responses! YOUR THE BEST GUYS! and yea im all stock so ill be getting it ota dont no the release date yet but im looking forward to it this month (I HOPE! lol) anyway just wanted to say ty and keep up your good work guys i check back very often and see wats out and new ;P

Hi all,
The official Cellular South update is on Samsung's site now, but when I try to use Kies to update , it doesn't recognize the phone. This is obviously because I'm running EB11 pick n pack rom, but does anyone know how I can get back to the 2.1 factory stock? Or at least trick Kies into believing this is a 2.1 phone? Can I downgrade from EB11 to another 2.1 ROM? If it's not Cellular South's official build, will Kies recognize this?
Cheers.

Here, try one of these. You will be able to update with a couple of options.
Phidelt, my wife and I both have the CS Showcase. Mine is modded with your PnP 2.2 ROM, but hers is completely stock 2.1.
Is there anyway to 'copy' her build to mine to make it completely stock again and then do the official 2.2 CS Update?
Just wondering. Thanks!

Negative Ghost Ryder.
im on my stock rom and stock everything just rooted... i do have clockwork recovery though. question is does this prevent me from getting ota updates or not? i have read various things saying that if you have a custom recovery installed it will prevent the install of the ota update but you still get the file ota.... Also, if it does work to install an ota update will i lose root? thanks
Its always recommended not to flash an OTA over a rooted ROM as it can bugger things up
you are able to receive the OTA, but it is strongly recomended not to
thanks guys , anyone know when 2.3.4 will be released for US version???

I highly doubt anyone does. We don't even know the date of the maintenance updates yet.
SO, I've been trying ICS ROMs... and have updated to the latest firmware...
But lets say I wanted to go back to 2.3.5 and Sense 3.5 ....
Would I need to flash my firmware (HBOOT/Radio) back, or should I expect that the older ROMs would work fine with the newest firmware ?
I'm not a noob by any means, but figured this question was worth putting out there.

Hi,
A lot of people have reported that the ICS firmware works well on GB.
So there its no need to change back .
You may need to flash an appropriate RIL.
If you do decide to go back,1.17 is HERE
I can confirm that the ICS firmware is working fine with GB ROM...I was going to go back, but as a flashing addict wanted to be able to try ICS again, so I kept it.

Use one of the update files from this post, if you have changed any files since you rooted you will have to probably restore those files first, if you are completely stock then just flash through CWM. Cheers.

Yes, you can update with root as long as you have stock recovery- did you really need to start ANOTHER thread asking this question though? It has been answered by me at least ten times since the update hit my tab at 6 am (that's 5 hours ago).
Please search people!
Hello i have a i535 Galaxy s3, with 4.1.1 jelly bean, and i want to update to 4.1.2 right now but it doesn't allow OTA updates right now, i have clockwork recovery mod installed and i am rooted right now, could anyone help me guide how to update to 4.1.2? also would i lose all my apps/settings/data?
Also i did try updating from samsung Kies but it said it did not support a update. but i did manage to backup my data/settings from samsung kies.
Sorry im kinda a noob with this stuff, i'd need a full guide to updating if that's possible, i rooted it myself by following a youtube video and it has worked well since.
Thanks
You can't update because you are rooted.

so what can i do so i have the latest jelly bean?
You can flash the ota in the bonus files section of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436
If that doesn't work, you will need to Odin back to pure 4.1.1 stock then take the official ota that way

If you are looking for the latest JB, and you're rooted, why not install a 4.2.2? There are tons of awesome ROM's out there.

i'm just not very educated in flashing roms and such, but if theres a good guide for a 4.2.2 update i'd be happy to go to that. But id like to keep my applications/data somehow (i have backed them up on samsung kies and i've learned how to make a full backup on clockwork recovery) i'd just rather not re-download all my applications.

There is no 4.2 update released for this phone yet. What Mr. CJ meant was that there are AOSP 4.2.2 ROMs out. The Android OS is currently on version 4.2.2 but not every smartphone has it officially.

ah well, id like to stick to whatever the official update is out right now, for the i535 which appears to be the 4.1.2 jelly bean, is it worth really updating from 4.1.1?
