Put them anywhere you like, then select it in the settings tab. You will find it opens the album, then select the picture.

Important notes:
There are a total of 292 wallpapers split into three zip files. See below for download links and preview thumbnails and check post 2 for today screen examples based a few of those wallpapers.
The attached wallpapers are 800x400 HD wallpapers (full screen) instead of the and 696x400 versions (fullscreen minus taskbar and softkey bar). Therefore they are most useful when used in combination with HDWall or Max TF3D or other utilities that allow the use of full screen wallpapers by enabling transparent or aero style taskbar and softkey bars. For guidance on how to enable full transparency including taskbar and softkey bar, please check the following threads:

I anyone wants me to add their favourites to the thread, please PM me your wallpapers and I will create a best off with those. I think it makes sense to have a centralized source for wallpapers rather than having to look through hundreds of pages in various threads.
I already have a few third party ones (not own creations) that I am considering adding into a third archive file. but in order to minimize work I will wait until I have at least a further 50 to post.

Your thanks are much appreciated. It is such a relief to have everything out and posted. You can imagine how I was feeling when I started this project.
Downloading entire desktop wallpaper web sites with Metaproducts Offline Explorer really sped up the work, but the editing of so many png files...

It works for me. You probably tried downloading during peak time. Wait until the bandwith tracking has been reset.
Following will become a large collection of transparent backgrounds and today screens/themes for your high resolution device to enjoy. The preview images link directly to each respective download. They start on post 2.
I didn't make any of these images. I found them and used HD Wall to make them transparent themes. The screenshots in this post are of much lesser quality than the actual downloads themselves. They all look much better installed on your device.
Installation
Each download is a .rar file which must be decompressed. Once extracted it will provide you with a .cab file that upon installation will change your HTC Sense background theme to look like what you downloaded. After you install the .cab file you need to reboot your device. Also included is the original image in .png format at 480x800 pixels so you can set it as your start menu/lock screen if you so desire.
If you decide to switch between themes of mine I suggest you uninstall the existing one before changing to the next one. You don't need to reboot your device until after you install the new one.
Requests
I am taking requests as well because I want this to grow so that we can all have some fresh eye candy. If you have an image you want to post to the thread I will format and create it into a transparent background .cab for you. It must be at least 480x800 in size. Any image format is ok.
Troubleshooting
If you install one of these and find that your background doesn't change then you probably need the high quality background fix from CookieMonster installed beforehand. It is attached to this post for Sense version 2.5.2012. Just uninstall my theme if you already installed it, then install the fix, and finally reinstall my theme.
If for some reason you cannot get it to work simply post to this thread with your Windows / Manila version. These can be completely uninstalled as well so there is no harm done to your device.

... and if for some reason they don't work on your version, just simply uninstall it!
Edit: I just noticed you said Windows Mobile 6.5.5... that is where the start menu is on the bottom correct? I don't use that branch of Windows Mobile so I can't tell you whether or not it will work... feel free to try if you want as it's uninstallable.

I'm just using the default lockscreen with NRG roms... along with my own background for it. Or are you referring to the glossy icons?

Honestly, I'm not sure if they will work with MaxManila or not. I imagine they should since it only replaces one Manila background file. And, if it doesn't, you can just uninstall it!
Oh and yes, I did water Al's plants LOL.

Done guys. They are attached. Sorry for the delay... was out of town.
I thought it would be nice to honour and recognise the massive contribution from Co0kieMonster and John (CHTE) by starting a post specifically for Wallpapers and perhaps Themes to come.
This is separate from the amazing 'Post Your Leo Today Screen', since this will aid people looking specifically for Co0kieMonster Images.

I started the 'Co0kie Wallpaper Thread' specifically for WallPapers that identify with Co0kie rather than posts of Today Screens captured from the device.
I see I broke that train of thought myself with a recent post
Anyway, I still believe this post should remain to largely encourage anyone who wishes to design a Co0kie specific Wallpaper that can be used on devices using CHT.

I'm not a designer, but i like to draw so i thought i could share from time to time some of my works for my Leo.
This is the first one. A Leo icon and a template for use on topics like ' post your today screen '.
( attachment is just a presentation , inside the .zip file there's a trasparent icon , and two templates, one for gimp, one for inkscape )

at 1st you are welcome. Second it is a good idea. Possible you can make one without the background? I mean transparent, so we can use it here with the strange yellow background on XDA. And last but not least, thanks for sharing your work.
