Are there any guides to changing this/creating your own for the Thunderbolt?
this is for changing your splash screen... there is a few decent ones already in here...

as far as the boot animation I dont know how to create one but I know how to install one... you just need to find the file and over write it with the new one(using root explorer or something like it)... its in system/customize/resource as vzw_bootanimation.zip ... and the sound file is finalthunder.mp3

I am trying to change the boot animation on my X. I have pushed bootanimation.zip to both /data/local and /system/media using Terminal Emulator, adb push, and root explorer. All I'm getting is a black screen after the M logo. I was able to successfully change it to the red rage boot animation by pushing it to /system/media but the sizing was off and it didn't looks so good. But I have tried 2 different BA's and get the black screen. Do I need to modify something to make it compatible with the X? Below are the 2 I was trying to push.

No. There's a thread @ AndroidForums about custom boot animations and working ones. Since my account is apparently "new", I'm unable to link to the thread. If you go to the Motorola Droid X forums, then to the "All things Root" thread, you'll see one started entitled "Custom Boot - Blue X takeover for root users."
Thanks but that guy is just skinning the original BA. I'm trying to put a completely different one one. I'll do some experimenting today while sitting at work I guess...
i know when making livewallpapers and what not the .png has to be certain dimensions and 24bit .
i would right click the png check properties and see if it says 32 if it does i believe the png cant be processed and will give a black screen.
only other thing i can think of is the desc.txt file which tells the phone how fast or w/e to show the pics. that i know little about.
edit: i believe though 8bit is ok for png, and it might be different i would check the properties of the original to see

this maybe stupid, but are you renaming them to bootanimation? they HAVE to be named that when you place them in the media folder in order for them to work!!
C'mon man, give me SOME credit...
HA GOT IT! When re-inserting (hehe) the files back into the bootanimation.zip, or when making a new zip, you need to set the compression to STORE. Then just drop it in /data/local with root explorer and you are good to go!
I cannot for the life of me get custom boot animations to work. I'm rooted. using root explorer i've used every tutorial on the internet! i'm on an Motorola Milestone running GOT 2.2 rom.
I put the "bootanimation.zip" on my SD card, i then move it to system/BIN and replace my original boot animation. Reboot the phone and nothing. just about 10 seconds or so of the Motorola "M" logo. I've tried everything. putting the files in there unzipped. The only thing that looks a bit odd to me is that the original "bootanimation" file's icon is just a plain white icon. but when ever i move the new bootanimation file over it shows up as a zip file. this has to have something to do with it? i also screwed around with the permissions so that the new bootanimations permissions matched the old one. anyone have any idea what i'm doing wrong here?
I cannot find an answer regarding this and I think my post was deleted from another thread regarding the boot animation.
Does anybody know if we can disable the boot animation on the Droid Charge?
I was easily able to disable the boot sound by renaming the poweron.wav sound file to poweron.wav.bak with Root Explorer, and it worked like a charm.
I noticed the .qmg files for the boot animation but I didn't want to bootloop the phone by renaming them because I don't really know what I'm doing.
Does anybody know a safe way to disabling the boot animation?
Thanks!
As far as I know, deleting the boot ani qmg file won't bootloop the phone and it will just stop the animation from happening. The bootanimation binary will run, not find the file, and exit, but the boot process should continue normally. It'd be the same as if you were using bootanimation.zip files and just removed the zip, you'd get basically nothing.
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a go and report back!
EDIT: Renaming bootsamsung.qmg to bootsamsung.qmg.bak in sytem/media with rootexplorer worked perfectly. Maybe I'm tripping, but it seems like it boots up faster. Nice!
Hey guys.. so i'm running ViperXL 3.0 JB.. and i was searching to replace the bootanimation, and couldn't find a file named bootanimation.zip.. all i could find was HTC_bootup_one.zip and htc_downanimation.zip in system/customize/resource
so.. can anyone point it to me?
Also.. since i'm running JB from asia (ViperXL), is there a way to flash a mod to get the CTR Screen Off Animation?
thanks guys! appreciate it
Why don't you ask in q&a?

That is indeed the boot animation file, unzip it and you can see the individual images.
The problem I ran into here was replacing it with a new boot animation of the same name somehow broke the startup animation altogether and all I got was the blue android animation, even after putting the original file back. I did a nand restore to get the original back and am now waiting for someone to figure out how to do this the right way or start making flashable zips.
I was doing this through es file explorer on viper xl 3.0. Did it the same way many times before on ice with no issues.

I set the system partition to write and then back to read once the files were moved, but I don't think I can change file permissions with es and I don't have root explorer. Eventually I will quit being lazy and try replacing the files through adb with proper permissions like I had to on my evo.
Idk if this interests you guys but.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823151
Hi
I rooted my HTC sensation T-Mobile smartphone. I wanted to get rid of the T-Mobile boot and down animations.
I changed the file names of TMOUS_bootanimation.zip and TMOUS_downanimation.zip by adding the .bak extension at the end of the names. These files were found in system/customize/resources
I no longer have the T-Mobile animation on startup but have only the default android animation.
I want to use the generic HTC boot animation as both my bootanimation.zip and downanimation.zip. I copied and replaced both files file in the directory already mentioned. I only get a black screen on shutdown.
I did notice that when I moved both files to system/media, the generic HTC animation worked on startup but not on shutdown.
I changed the permissions and ownerships of both files and nothing seems to work for the downanimation.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Agreed, if your on a tmobile Rom then it's highly likely that you will need to name your new down animation to exactly as it was before. Also what did you set the permissions to?
