Lacking recovery mode? Push with adb? - HTC Inspire 4G

Ok, so here is my problem. Can't get past the white splash screen. If i could enter recovery mode this wouldn't be a big deal, but I can't, all i get is a black screen. I need to find a way to use abd to get into recovery mode. According to the HBOOT menu I used ACE Hack kit and I supposedly have S-OFF. Is there a way I can do the necessary precedure to get recovery mode with access only to the HBoot menu and a computer?
Many thanks to anyone who has a solution.

Try pulling battery...wait a minute...then replace battery. Hold volume down as you power it on. Should get you in hboot & from there you should be able to enter recovery
Hope this helps

Must make sure phone and computer are talking to each other.
You can do this by typing "adb devices" should return a value.
Then If you type "adb reboot recovery" it will reboot your phone to recovery.
Or
Plug your phone into the charger and turn the phone off. If will cycle off then boot to recovery about a minute later. That is is you have not applied the fix for this. Nice walk around for the Black Screen though!

The phone and computer don't have to be talking to each other, all he has to do do is place the PD98IMG on his sd card with an adapter, and boot into hboot and it will flash the new hboot, which will rid him of the black recovery screen. Or if the phone can talk to the computer he can push it to the sd card with adb. Place the PD98IMG.zip in the tools folder of sdk Using adb devices (to see if it is connectd) adb push ./PD98IMG.zip /sdcard/

Revolutionary doesn't seem to work..

I have been messing around with this revolutionary tool for some time now.
I connect up my phone to my pc, enter htc sync mode and start up that program. After I enter my BETA key it works fine, until it enters Fastboot. It just sits there with that white screen while nothing happens, while on my CMD screen (on my pc) it says; "Waiting for fastboot..."
What did I do wrong? I followed this guide to the letter.

I have the same problem. Revolutionary doesn't detect my htc sensation regardless of mode. I don't know how to access the bootloader though.

Have you checked your htboot in bootloader? I'm pretty sure you are on revolutionary hboot already. Now just find a recovery in PG58 file and update from fastboot, or use adb and push recovery.img using fastboot flash recovery recovery-image-name.img

Lol. It's not near as bad as it looks. Just google things like hboot, bootloader, fastboot, adb and you'll be fine. It took me 2-3 non stop hours of reading when rooting Desire just to start to understand things. Once you get basic idea, learning goes a lot faster.
Or pay someone local to do it for you

I suppose. Right now I'm stuck at unlocking the bootloader. when I want to get_identifier_token it just keeps endlessly waiting for my device. I noticed that it does so on anything. HTC Sync, revolution, fastboot, adb. Eh, I'll get through I suppose.
It also doesn't recognize it with the command "adb devices"
Start over. Download the revolutionary tool zip and extract it to your desktop in a new folder named(what ever the f%#k)
1. Plug phone into comp
2. Mount as disk drive
3. Copy superuser zip to ur sd card. Dont put it in folders but the root of ur sd card.
4. Mount as charge only.
5.make sure htc drivers are installed.
6. Type in your info at revolutionarys page to generate the beta key.
7. Type in the device serial number
8.hit enter, beta key created
9. Run revolutionary
10. Type in your beta key. If a letter is capital then capitalize the letter.
11. Hit enter and sit tight.
12. When it asks to download recovery type "Y" and hit enter
13. Revolutionary will close, now u are on the bootloader.
14. Push the power button on "bootloader. It will look for the pc36img. Dont worry about it.
15. Now were back at the bootloader. Use volume down to highlight recovery and push power.
16. Choose zip from sd.
17 find su 2.6.whateve its called.
18. Power to flash it. Now ur rooted go back and reboot.
I literally just told you each step to the T on how to do this. If your device isnt online then uninstall the htc drivers and reinstall. To uninstall the drivers go to device manager and uninstall by right click.

Advice please. I think I just bricked my phone.

I am running the latest AOKP, and was having problems with tiny chat. I decided to reboot into recover and wipe everything. I wiped all the options that allow a wipe, and then went to reboot. It would not reboot - it said there was nothing in /system. Now, if I try to turn it on, it gets to the HTC screen, and nothing.
Did I just brick my phone?
If I try to go into recovery, it says there is no OS installed. I did a backup before, but there is nothing listed if I try to recover. Am I boned? I can still get into recover. Is there a way to get an OS on there?

Does it go into recovery mode or not ?
first of all this is not the right thread to post in.it should be in q & a section.second you wiped everything in the sense you formatted system also i think.obviously phone wont boot up into os if there is no os.try downloading any rom you like.enter bootloader.from there go to recovery and flash the rom you downloaded.thats it now you can boot into the os.
Lock your bootloader through adb and then run a ruu
Also, if a phone is jacked up, and all you can get into is recovery, does the battery still charge? Should I unplug it?

why is this here ?
I put it in the wrong place. I've reposted it in the Q&A thread. Sorry for threatening your delicate sensibilities while I freak out about bricking my 500 dollar phone.
1. Hold down Power button
2. As soon as the screen goes dark, press and hold the volume down button while it is coming back on. Don't let go of either button until you (hopefully) get to the bootloader.
From there, do this:
fastboot oem lock
At this point, your phone shouldn't be able to boot into anything except the bootloader (which is fine).
Then go and run the RUU.
Good luck!

I don't have an optionj for fastboot oem lock
Boot into the bootloader (the white screen)
Use the volume keys to scroll down to "Fastboot" and use the Power button to select that option
Then, after you install the correct fastboot/htc/adb drivers, open up CMD and wherever you have fastboot installed, cd to there and then run on your PC:
fastboot oem lock
Then download an RUU from the forums (such as 1.85).
It is an .exe file
Run the .exe file and follow the directions it gives you.

Install an application called "HTC Sync" from HTC's website.
Then download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709424
cd to the directory in CMD where that directory was extracted do (in that same directory you should have a fastboot.exe file)
then run that fastboot oem lock command.
then after it reboots the bootloader and it says "RELOCKED" on top, run the RUU.

So recently when I boot the phone on it boots the normal jelly time startup and the black screen. I have seen the only way to fix this is either factory reset or reflash ROM. But I am unable to do that since ,y volume button is broken. I have read that you can get to recovery via adb and or flash via adb can someone help me out please?

you can connect your HTC phone to your computer via USB cable, and use the command below, before that you need to install adb shell on Windows.
adb reboot bootloader
Also, you could enter Recovery mode through ROM Toolbox and if you're using TWRP, its touch, so you dont need hardware keys.

So you're stuck on booting and your hardware buttons dont work?
There is a way to get into the recovery in such a situation but that usually relies on the hardware buttons. What device do you have? What recovery?
Try this
Remove battery n reinsert it
Now connect the phone to charger.
Don't do anything keep the phone as it is for 5 -10 min.
It will automatically go to recovery

Follow these fool-proof steps:
Locate your android sdk folders-> navigate to the folder where adb is located ->hold shift + right click on the folder containing adb and select ''open command window here'' ( this will automatically take care of pointing the directory to that location) -> 'adb reboot recovery' ENTER
This will automatically enter recovery. I suggest you restore your old backup .
As for your volume buttons, you should be able to fix it easily if you know a little bit of soldering and know-how.

HTC Desire HD hard reset without volume buttons
I have htc desire hd and my volume buttons is broken ,my phone is much dispute and have lots of bugs i want to HARD RESET no factory reset only hard reset with rebote. Please help me how to reset my HTC DHD without volume buttons!!
!!sorry for my english!!
SOLVED! (At least for me)
To whom may still be interested, I found a way to get into recovery and subsequently wipe data/factory reset the HTC Inspire 4G/Desire HD without using the volume buttons.
Phone background: the phone that I used had the internal volume buttons broken. It was rooted and unlocked using the effen hack kit, then I flashed a custom ROM on it and I forgot to do a factory reset before I firstly boot up the phone with the new ROM. So it was stuck on the boot animation forever.
Steps for getting into recovery mode without volume buttons:
1. Take the battery off
2. Plug the phone to a wall charger for at least one or two minutes.
3. Put the battery back on along with the battery door and don't touch any buttons.
- The orange led on the front will light up and stay on for a few seconds before the phone automattically gets into recovery
Note: use the touch capacitive buttons to manipulate recovery:
- Home/Menu buttons to navigate up/down
- Back button to go back
- Search button to select
That's pretty much it. At this point you can do anything!
I hope this can help someone out there... If it helped you please hit the thanks button!

You can use adb commands to enter in recovery mode. Connect your android to PC. Enable adb debugging and open command prompt in PC.
Type "adb devices" without qoutes and enter then type "adb reboot recovery" and enter. These commands boot your android in recovery mode.

[Q] getting to hboot with fastboot flag

You all probably noticed that if the Settings->Power->Fastboot setting is enabled, Power+Vol_down will not work and the phone will do a standard boot. Is there anyway to force booting the phone into hboot? If not, this is a possible way to get bricked in case your ROM is messed up and the phone's last mode was to Fastboot.

Maybe I don't understand the question. Could you not just use:

You can only use those if adbd is running which means you either were successful in booting into recovery (and you can't do it as power+vol_down doesn't work), or you have a working ROM (see the OP).

I wish it was that simple. The ability to get to the menu seems to be related to the bootloader's ability to access /data. If the bootloader can't get to /data it looks to defaulting to NOT showing the hboot menu. I've noticed this on my phone. I have my phone encrypted which doesn't allow access to /data until you decrypt it. If you cancel out of the decrypt prompt then reboot the phone, you will not be able to power+vol_down (though I never changed the fastboot setting).

See the OP. Assuming your ROM is messed up and is not booting (happens a lot when your'e a flashoholic), you can't run any apps or even get to adb. I've never seen a phone that will not allow you to always be able to cold-boot into the bootloader. This is a serious problem for folks that plan to experiment with lots of ROM flashing.

In that case you hold power and volume buttons until the phone tells you it's going to restart or vibrates or you see the screen flash. Depending on what mode you are in it will do different things. At this point you can release power and move to only volume down.
If timed correctly you will land in hboot. Practice makes perfect.

dottat, thank you for your post. You are correct. This requires quite a bit of proper timing to succeed. To recap: In case you are in fast-boot power mode and/or have your phone encrypted and power+vol_down doesn't get you into hboot:
1. Power down the phone.
2. Hold volume_up and power.
3. Keep holding the above, you should see the animated HTC splash show up.
4. Keep holding the above, the screen will go dark.
5. Once the screen goes dark, quickly release power and volume_up and press volume_down.
6. If timed perfectly, you should land in hboot menu.
Thanks again to dottat for pointing it out.

I dont have that option in the cwm recovery i am in. I believe the cwm im on is 6.0.4.3. Also, when the phone is pulled in, it will not turn on at all. Everytime I put the battery in, it tries to boot, i see the samsung screen, then it goes to the blue android guy for like a tenth of a second and the phone shuts off. Same thing with download mode. It attempts to go to it....I see all of the info in the top left hand corner of the screen and the phone shuts off.

If you have a bad cable change it
If something else is going wrong you can call Verizon and play dumb .. instead of calling Assurian you should call the regular total care protection .. say you have a hardware issue and that you where charging it and then all of a sudden something happened
* You never know .. its all up to you .. nothing else you really can do
1. Recovery
2. Download mode
3. Try adb reboot boot loader
4. adb reboot download
5. New Charger
6. Warranty swap
There is a good channel on irc
irc.freenode.net and the channel is #verizons3 .. there is live support there

These are ADB commands. Download "Terminal Emulator" and type in the following command to boot into download mode from within your rom:
su
reboot download
Edit: Added that you must grant "su" for the command to work. Just type it in.
