[Q] Sim card reader - General Topics

I`ve just found an old sim card I used to use in my drawer and thought I would see if it had any credit left on it,but I cant for the life of me remember the pin code I used with it.
Would I be able to find it with a sim card reader or would I need hardware and software(that is a file recovery program) to use the sim card again.?
The same question would I need a sim card reader to restore deleted text messages from this or other sim cards or are they recoverable from the phone memory?
I assuume its the same method for all android phones
TIA

You need a PUK code from your network. Call them up and ask them.
This should help: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/puk-code-forgot-your-sim-card-pin-7687/

Thanks for the reply!
Sorry i think you mis understood the question,it is not the phone that is locked just the sim card that is protected with a pin number. If I enter that incorrectly 3 times then the phone will lock and I will need the PUK from the service provider.but I dont want to lock the phone as I`m using it with a differant providers sim card.
I just want to read the old card to see the contacts and sms messages that may be saved on it.But I cant remember the pin I protected it with for the life of me!

there alot of things you can do with a reader even clone the sim or so im told

Which is illegal I believe, if you use both at the same time.
Sent via my iPhone 4G...LOL JK iPhone doesn't do 4G.

PIN for SIM card ??

just bought a used siemens sx56, it asks for a pin # when i install the sim card, where can i find the pin # ?
thanks
mike
The PIN # should be delivered with your sim card from your operator. If it asks for sid code, than the phone is locked and you have to unlock it using the xdaunlock tool....
Stefan
well.... the sim card has been in my other phone for almost a year and i threw out all the paperwork that the sim card came with. is there any other way to find out??? i have at&t maybe att website? or my monthly bill?
And you don´t have to eneter a PIn when you used the card in your old phone?
That´s very strange......
Normally the PIn isn´t written anywhere. Neither Bill, nor Web-site...
Maybe the customer service could help you.

try entering 1111 or 1234, reset phone between tries or you may get a locked sim.
yes 1234 worked, i finally found the manual and according to it- this is the default pin # and i hadnt changed it.. so everything is cool !
thanks guys
sim code and the phone being unlocked have nothing to do with eachother
here all sims need pin codes sure you can make it stop asking for the code
but it have nothing to do with the phone being locked
i never had a locked phone but have always been asked for sim on all my phones i use it as a 2th password if it's lost

[Q] Phone password without SIm card

On my old Samsung it was possbile not only set a password for the SIM but also for the phone ...
I ask if there is a similar App for Android that I cannot find it because all the App I found say: "if SIM card is changed ...."
The goal is to protect my data saved on gmail account ...
I meant an App that works during the start up (powering on the phone) and if there is no SIM inside or a different SIM, it block the phone....
When the screen turn off someone can always remove the battery and the SIM and turn on again the phone and usign a wi-fi can easily check mu e mail !!! and it is very risky in my opinion!
SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING?
Thanks!

Is this possible?

so my infuse sim card reader is messed up, it won't read my card. Is there any way through rooting or a custom ROM to unlock it to still be able to use it as a regular phone?
let me also add that inserting another carrier SIM won't work. One of the contact pins on the reader is missing so it just can't recognize a card at all. Is there anyway to unlock it without the use of a unlock code?
You could use Wifi to do internet calling, I've never done it before, and therefore have no clue how to do it. (that is if the infuse allows you to use wifi when the sim is out) You need the Sim card to make calls otherwise though, if its a hardware issue your in trouble. You could try to mess the failing pin to get it to make contact...

[Q] retrieve contacts only from ATT sim on D2G

Is this feasible? I am trying to export the contacts from an old SIM card using the D2G as sort of an "adapter".
Insert the SIM card, then start the Manage SIM Card app, it comes preinstalled.
«Import SIM Card» will let you import contacts from the card. You don't need to perform band unlock for this to work, although I'm not sure if it's possible to import contacts if your phone is SIM locked.

Click to collapse
Hm. If I've never bothered to deal with the SIM card feature I would assume that my phone is still SIM locked. It is rooted though does that make a difference?
The SIM lock can only be removed by entering the unlock code. There is no way to circumvent it.
You might be able to get the contacts from the SIM if you bypass the SIM unlock screen, though.
Well, I'm not seeing a "SIM manager" application. There is an applications installed called "SIM Toolkit" which I definitely didn't install, and doesn't seem to open up any options.
The phone seems to support SIM devices.. :
/proc/device-tree/[email protected]/[email protected]
/proc/device-tree/[email protected]/[email protected]/name
/proc/device-tree/[email protected]/[email protected]/type
/proc/device-tree/[email protected]/[email protected]/sim_availability
/proc/device-tree/[email protected]/[email protected]/class
Are you on 4.5.x or on 2.4.x firmware? “Manage SIM Card” appears in my app drawer on 4.5.608 and it's a stock application. I don't remember its name in 2.4.x, alas.
The app won't do anything if you don't have a SIM card installed, however. Upon inserting a SIM card and powering the device up it should ask you for the SIM unlock PIN (obtainable from VZW for free provided the phone is active, and you have been a good customer and paid all your bills on time). It won't happen if your device is in CDMA only mode; the SIM card reader is only activated in Global and GSM modes.
settings > about phone > android version = 2.3.7
I'm guessing the sim card manager is a few versions newer :-/
You're looking at Android version, not System version.
There is no official firmware for the DROID2 GLOBAL that runs Android 2.3.7. You're probably using custom firmware (CM7?), and you should refer to its developers to learn how to import contacts from the SIM card.
Most probably the contacts app supports it itself.

Bind sim card to smartphone

I have Lenovo A Plus rooted by Supersu and plan to upgrade it to the pro version, in order to be able to set the pin-code to root-access. I have a task to make the SIM card binding to smartphones so that employees can not insert their SIM cards into them. Is it possible to do this? I mean, that the smartphone refuses to work with another SIM card.
Okay. I'll ask the question in a different way.
How in sh-script to get the serial number of the SIM card or phone number? If this is done, then I can put the script on the minute-by-minute execution and cyclically shutdown the phone if the SIM card number is not the one. Any ideas?
