what are the PROS & CONS about ROOTING? - HTC Inspire 4G

I just ROOTED my inspire and I cant feel anything different. All I know is that Battery lasted throughout the night(above 80%), usually htc inspire battery would go below 30% when i wake up from sleep(7hours) and the phone is on sleepmode/standby.
so can anyone tell me anything NEW? PROS AND CONS?
thank you

no cons after rooting.
i suggest you flash a Gingerbread rom and a new radio,
(Radio: 12.41.60.19P_26.06.04.14_M (HTC Ace Gingerbread S Generic 2.16.0.0).
your phone will run faster, data reception will get better, and battery get better life.
besides, your laptop can receive wifi-hotspot from your phone.

how do i flash a gingerbreadman and radio?

CON: Reading and following the directions that are posted with rooting
I think a great pro is that there isn't anymore bloatware left on the phone. Flashing roms is like going to an all you can eat buffet. You pay once (rooting your phone), then you get to pick and choose what you want to eat (flash different roms, kernels, radios, change bootscreen, etc.). Feel free to ask for help, there are many people in this community that are willing. If you need to increase your battery life even more try juice defender.

simplest way for radio flashing
modified from Kirk's old post
1. Download this file http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BX5GV1CJ
this is a zip file containing two files. one is radio.img from ATT stock radio, dont touch the other file (android-info).
you need to remove this img file and replace with the Gingerbread radio.img
from here http://www.multiupload.com/BE0V4H8QQY
extract the radio.img and zip into the PD98IMG.zip with the other file (android-info) already in the PD981img.zip. (two files)
2. Place the PD98IMG.zip radio file on the root of your SD card.
3. Power the phone off, remove and reinsert the battery.
4. Hold the volume button down and press power on.
5. The phone will boot into Hboot then Bootloader, It should see the PD98IMG.zip and ask if you want to apply the zip.
6. Use the volume up button to select "yes"
7. Once its done flashing, reboot the phone and you should have flashed the radio.

You stated that you had just upgraded to Ginger [which I take to be Gingerbread], which sounds cool, and somewhat simple. Is there a way to go back to what was acquired when I bought my phone [in February], IF I should find it wasn't worth it to upgrade it? I saw the second page of this thread and the mention of a "stock ATT" item. I take it that that would put my phone back to how it was received from ATT? Currently running Froyo 2.2.1

[Q] Can't flash Radio_12.41.60.19_26.06.04.14_M?

From what I've read, I should be able to simply rename the .zip file PD98IMG.zip and just put it on the root of the SD card, then reboot into bootloader and press the power button and it should flash the radio.
When I press the power button, it starts to flash the radio but when it says SD Checking... and tries to load the .zip file, is says "no image!" and then "no image or wrong image!"
I also tried zipping it without compression and it had the same problem. What gives?
No, and flashing radios is probably one of the easiest ways to completely brick your phone if not done right.
You have to take the radio from the hack kit(PD98IMG.zip), found in the radio folder. Open the zip as an archive with 7zip, take the radio.img out of the zip with the radio you want to flash, and drop it into the archive you opened of the PD98IMG.zip to overwrite the stock one that was in there. Now just close the archive, put it on your sdcard, then reboot into bootloader and it should flash.
Tried this method but phone info still shows the hack kit radio.

His post clearly says "You have to take the radio from the hack kit(PD98IMG.zip)".
It wouldn't show anything different if you flashed the same radio.
I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that radios CANNOT be flashed from the bootloader. They have to be flashed over using the ADB tools from your computer, right?
Make sure phone has USB Debugging enabled.
Extract the radio (should be titled radio.img) to the folder with the ADB files.
Open a command prompt with admin privileges and type and navigate to the directory containing both the radio and the ADB files. Then type:
adb reboot bootloader - this reboots the phone into the bootloader mode
fastboot flash radio radio.img - this flashes the radio stored on your computer to your phone and the phone installs it from there
fastboot reboot - this reboots your phone
Somebody double check me, I typed this in a rush!
Yes, understood that completely. His post says to take the radio.img of the radio you want to flash and place it in the hack kit radio zip file. Did that and radio shows hack kit (stock) radio.

If you're already rooted, ignore any hack kit instructions from here on. Once you finally get rooted, new techniques and procedures will be developed, just keep up with the forums! Don't rename the radio - just keep it as radio.img. I attached the .zip that helped me (thanks leith51).
Extract the "Radio flash" folder within the .zip anywhere you want.
Next, extract your radio (should be "radio.img") into that same directory.
After that, launch the "Start Here" file - this automatically opens a command prompt and navigates you to where you need to be.
Lastly, follow the instructions in my last post.

NO. That won't work if you don't have eng. S-off, and I doubt he does. If you do that with just S-off, the flash will FAIL. you have to have eng- S-off to fastboot flash, if you don't know what it is, you probably don't have it.
If your doing what I typed in my last post and its still stock, then your flashing the stock radio.

I followed the instructions from your previous post more to the letter and it worked. I noticed the .txt file in the original PD98IMG.zip file, would that be what's stopping me from being able to flash a ROM? It's really rather annoying to have to use that specific file, but if I could just keep a backup of that .txt and add it to the .zips of radios I flash it would be much more convenient. Would that work?

Agreed, also simply taking a peek into the development section wouldn't hurt, as there is an entire thread dedicated to this entire process along with the zip's for it. Not only that, but it also tells you how to check the file to make sure it is not corrupt.
Can you keep this civil guys?. I did some cleaning.

hey guys,
I just flashed my radio to this build.
I saw my HSPA go down the crap shoot. Did you guys notice this? I'm running CM7.
Not sure if I did this right but:
1) Ace rooted, S-off
2) Installed CM7
3) Flashed Radio 06.04.14
Should I wipe everything and reflash the ROM?

[Q] recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation link not working

Hi there,
I am working through the Guide to Unlocking your Sensation and the link to recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation is not working.
Is there another place I can download the file?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Edit:
Looks like someone updated the MultiUpload Link. Thanks guys!
You may download it from here: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/ Just search for ....pyramid.img and flash from fastboot.
But I suggest you to get the latest v 5.0.2.0. Works fine in every aspect.

I have uploaded CWM 5.0.2.0 here: http://www.axifile.com/en/EC384AC809
MD5: 85b5f10c9afe33fb50396bd5f54bc7de
I just flashed it on my phone and it seemed to work fine, I was on 5.0.2.0 and still am ;-)
I uploaded and downloaded it and it's the same MD5 as the one on my phone that worked.
Just rename to PG58IMG.zip boot up from scratch (Power and Vol -), vol + to flash. When it wants to reboot after flashing pop the SD-card out and rename it after booting.
I came across this, it might be abit outdated but I'm guessing it'll work fine.

In the ARHD (mike's) thread there is a SuperWipe script in the downloads. Use that when changing between ROM flavours, or if recommended by the dev when changing versions. E.g., VI from 2.0.0 -> 3.0.0 required a SuperWipe.
MAKE sure you take regular Nandroid backups before/after you changing anything.

Download a 3.32 firmware file that fits you. Put that PG58IMG file on the root of your SD card (top level folder) and turn your phone off. Hold Volume Down and power it up. It'll ask if you want to update. Say yes. Then it'll ask to reboot. Take out the SD card ONLY AFTER the update is complete then reboot into the bootloader (volume down + power). Wait 10 seconds and put the SD card in, scroll down to recovery and select it. Now, reflash the ICS rom you want and it'll boot. Once it's booted, use a file manager and remove the PG58IMG file from your SD.

You have s-off right? If so, perform superCID, then it doesn't matter what source the fw has. If you don't want to do this, check Kor-ah's friendly firmware thread in dev forum for another option.

Yes, as you can always revert back to the original one. Make sure you make a note of it. You can always get "CID Getter" from the market, it'll tell you your original CID.

Thanks alot man updated the firmware then flashed ICS n its working now

I'll pay someone to fix my mess. (S-OFF and ROM)

I'll paypal someone 5 bucks if they can remotely get me S-OFF and flash OpenSensatio2 on my phone. I've tried everything and it's just not working. I've been doing this for 5 hours, I can't do this anymore. I am "Unlocked" but have S-ON. I also forgot to make a backup so there is no rom on my phone. I can get into Recovery (CWM 5) and I can get to Fastboot USB screen. I'm on HBOOT 1.18.000
I don't know how this works but if someone knows how to do this remotely over the web, lemme know.
First, you need 4ext touch recovery. Here is the download: http://www.4ext.net/ddl/pyramid/recovery.zip
Firstly, download the file, and rename it to pg58img.zip
Place the file on the root of your SD Card, and boot into bootloader. It will then search for the file, and install the recovery.
When the process is done, you must remove the file from your sd card.
Then you have to flash the ics firmware, which is required in order to run an ICS ROM.
Download a 3.32 or up firmware for your cid from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Place file on root of sd-card, boot into bootloader, wait until finished, and then remove the file.
Now, download OpenSensation, and gapps, and place on your sd card.
Boot into bootloader, select recovery.
Then, scroll down to tools, and then ''Enable 4ext smartflash''
Then go back, and head into the wipe|format menu.
Then select format all partitions (except sd card)
Then go back to main menu, and select install zip.
Then choose install zip from sd card, and select the opensensation zip.
When that is done, flash the gapps zip.
Reboot and enjoy!

When I tried to root my device, I downloaded the bootloader from HTCDev.com

This works up until the welcome screen. I click "English (US)" and then it says "Just a sec..." and then freezes and reboots. You've gotten me farther than I've gotten. Any idea why we are hitting that reboot?

but he is S-ON.he can't upgrade firmware while he is S-ON
firstly he has to flash a GB rom via 4ext recovery then use revolutionary.io method to S-OFF the device
then flash 3.32fw or 3.33fw version in order to flash an ics rom

Hi,
You have used HTCdev,so you will not be able to use revolutionary.
Relock your phone.
You need to go right back to stock with a GB RUU .

I ended up flashing a GB rom just to try it out and make a backup. It worked.
Okay, so now-
1. Relock phone and then run the GB RUU exe
2. Turn debugging on
3. Attempt Revolutionary
In that order? Sorry if I have a bunch of questions. I've rooted a bunch of Galaxy's before and never ran into so many issues. I love the Sensation though.

Hi,
Ok.
If you have got a ROM installed, then, forget the RUU for now,but do relock the phone.
Turn debugging on
Then,try Revolutionary.
Thank you both for all of your help! I'm so happy just to have a rom on here, I thought it was dead. Haha. I'm going to try Rev again after dinner and I will update this post later today or tomorrow morning and let you know how I did.
I'm excited to be back on Android. I got rid of my iPhone. It was about time.

I'm a super-noob at this

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I hope I'm posting this in the right section of the forum, apologize if not.
I'm just a super-noob at this overall cell-phone terminology for Rooting, ROMs and etc.
I want to root my phone and input the new Android Jelly Bean on it (I hope that's possible)
I have no idea where to start. When I search online I found some older threads on how to but I'm not sure if it's still viable.
I'll post my phone info and see where this will go.
HTC Sensation z710e
Android version 2.3.4
Software # 1.45.401.3
When I press "power" + "vol down" I see
-Revolutionary-
Pyramid PVT ship S-OFF RL
HBOOT 1.17.1111
Any help, hopefully step by step help will be most appreciated. Thank you for your patience and if you require more info let me know

probably you aren't rooted
but consider this
every custom rom comes prerooted
so there is no point to root your current one
about md5 sums:
put the zip in your sdcard
navigate with any file manager you have to that zip
tap and hold on it until it pops up a menu
go to properties
somewhere it will say show checksum or calculate checksum
it will show you a row of letters and numbers
then compare it with the one from the download link and see if it matches
note: once you flash the 3.33 universal(ics firmware) your current rom won't boot because it is a gb one
so you have to flash the new rom after upgrading your firmware
and don't forget to backup your current rom just in case
by the way do you have sdk tools installed in your pc?(adb and fastboot files)

Google md5 generator for Windows. Use the first link that you find.
If you have 4ext recovery, you can check md5 there itself.
Happy to help.
Okay, I checked with an MD5 program suggested, and it codes match. Great!
How do I backup my current ROM? I've heard of Clockwork and 4Ext but doesn't it require a Root?
I plan to use to ROM. How do I flash a new ROM?

since you don't have sdk tools installed start with the one click root tool
Okay so I downloaded the one click tool. I followed the steps, but when I double-click the "root" bat file. the command program pops up but it says repeatedly " 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"
any idea?

Hey rzr86, I've been away for more than a week so I wasn't able to work on the phone.
Funny thing I found out about my phone, it seems it was already rooted. Good thing because less of a hassle for me now.
So I need to download a ROM backup program, which one do you recommend? I don't seem to have one installed

from that app download and install 4ext recovery touch

go to backup/restore->backup
then you can backup your current rom
after that format all partitions except sdcard from 4ext
flash the new rom
