Take Screenshots of your phone without root :)

I put this in theming because with all the new themes and such coming within the nearish future, i thought everyone would like to know how to take pictures of their screen easily
I actually found this by accident, haha... I bet a lot of people here didn't know about it either, lol..
YOU MUST BE ON EC03 (or higher? )
Hold down the back key, then press the power button It is saved to your sdcard

yeah its kinda neat but after awhile we started removing it from fascinate froyo roms as u kinda keep accidently setting it off (screecapture...something apk)
but personally i prefer using ddms to ss

oh wow, this is nice, i can tell my friend about this since he is afraid to root for some reason

It works on rooted too. I found this post about 10 minutes after I downloaded 'screenshot'. One less app clogging up my SD card. Thanks Trailblazer

Dude! I have gotten that stupid message, "Screenshot saved to SD Card" something like half a dozen times now (based on the number of screen captures in the friggin' folder). I had NO idea what the heck I was doing to get that. I will admit that I didn't go poking around my SD card to find out what the heck it was since I was playing around with other things/mods... After seeing this post, I checked and there is a new directory called SceenCapture on the SD Card... Well'l b' (red neck talk)! Okay, now that I know what the message is. Thanks!

New Error & A Question

I have an error that wont even let me get into download mode. It only shows: a phone - a warning sign -a pc Can anyone help me with this problem.
Also if i have gotten a certain amount of replacements from att, will they let me get another phone close to the value of this phone or pay the difference if i dont want this one any more.

That is a form of download mode. You can connect to a PC and flash a rom with odin and you'll be fine.

[Q] Can't Update to 2.3.6 !Help! Bloatware removed

Hi Everybody,
I currently have 2.3.5 stock (non-deoxeded) rooted rom.
I removed alot of the bloatware ( i can't remember which ) .
Now when i try to upgrade to 2.3.6 it starts very well and the progress bar goes to almost 1/3 of it's width then i get an exclamation icon and the device restarts normally and when the phone completely boots up it tells me update failed.
i know this can be fixed by restoring 2.3.5 fxz but i am afraid of doing so and also lazy so is there any easier way of doing this?

You'll have to flash the fxz. This has been covered in several posts across quite a few threads. The search button really doesn't take much effort.

I don't understand why you have to keep the bloatware on the phone to update it anyway. I'm just taking a guess at this but you could probably contact motorola to see if there is away around it. I'm probably wrong though.

It is not Moto you need to go to, it is AT&T, it is their bloatware. The updater is performing checks, during the update, to see if the packages exist where they should, so that they can then be updated, it is a requirement since these are just patch files, and you can't apply a patch file to something that is not there, so the update script bombs out and will not continue.
AT&T and Motorola both assume if you made changes to your phone that you know what you are doing and that you "voided" your warranty and don't want the updates. If you call AT&T or Motorola, they will tell you too bad so sad, you modded your phone, you are now out of warranty.

I figured that was the case. These carriers love bloatware that most of the time will charge you a additional $10.00 a month to use its service.

please do your self a favor and stop trying to be funny . you don't have a very slow internet connection that would that 6 hours to get the ~500MB FXz . also you are not busy to a degree that you only sleep 3 hours a day and you don't want to waste a single hour of your day . i am web developer by the way . what do you work?

Oh Finally i am on 2.3.6 update :
Here is what i did incase any one is in the same problem.
1) Restored the FXZ ( noobies guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650) be very patient will flashing and never touch your device until it boots to system and yes it will reboot a couple of times or maybe the screen will go off and on a couple of times ( don't get scared like me ) also the last step 20/20 takes a while and after this step don't unplug it still does some stuff
2) Rooted using 1-click root ( found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327741 )
3) "VERY IMPORTANT" Used 4ever root method found here http://droidmodderx.com/bionic/maintain-root-through-any-update-bionic-with-forever-root/ ( Yes it works for us too ) Credits to Jim for letting us know about this.( post #5 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477656 )
4) Rebooted ( i don't know if it's essential but i didn't know how the 3 lines i added in the above step worked so i rebooted maybe they executed on boot)
5) Installed OTA update (Settings >> About >> System Updates )
6) Congratulations now you have the OTA 2.3.6 updates rooted device

Doesnt run full screen on asus tf101. But they should patch soon. Doesnt affect game play.

Disagree. I think its awesome. It is not full screen on my tf101. But it doesnt bother me or affect the game. Obviously it would be nice to have it full screen and reading the forums it will be made that way soon.

Help!
Hey guys. I've got a problem with his app and it seems I need your help.
Installed it, ran it, it asked to download some data in order for it to run, that got downloaded,it said, please wait while the data is being installed to the sd card, this will only happen once but might take a while. After reading that I opened whatsapp and used that for a bit while FM was running in the background. After 5 minutes I opened it and the app restarted. Then, it gave me the error that FM has failed to start, it also gave 3 possible reasons for it:
a) Not enough space on phone/sd card (Can't be, because there's 700mb free on the phone memory of my desire s, and more than 5 gb free on my sd card)
b) Another instance of the game is running, please wait 30 seconds after exiting and try again (Tried that, once after a minute's wait, then again, it gave the same error - this was after I had killed the process using advanced task killer - it kept giving the same error)
c) I don't remember the third suggestion but it wasn't important.
Now, point is, right after this, I uninstalled the game and tried to install it again, the setup stopped with 'game not installed' message. Tried it again, same error. Restarted the phone (By the restart option on desire s, didnt turn it off, I have fastboot disabled though) and it gave the same, 'game not installed' error again when i tried to run the setup.
How do I fix this? Please help. I have loved this game on my pc since I was a kid. I NEED this on my phone. Please help help help.

Please also note that I deleted the data on sd card located at android/data in sd card, before attempting to install

Not sure mate. If you have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It installed first time on my sgs2 and on my asis tf101. Suggest you goto the sigames forums.

If you're still having a problem with running the game please feel free to email me at [email protected] and I'll do my best to get you up and running asap.
PS - The most common cause of that error is simply someone having plugged their device into a PC to charge and left 'disk sharing' enabled so that the app can't see its data, if thats the case please disable the sharing before starting the game.

Sorry that the approach taken isn't to your liking.
I did most of the work on the Android version of Football Manager Handheld in my spare time as a labour of love because I believe in the platform, SEGA/SI were kind enough to back me once I had the prototype working and allow the work to continue in house and be formally released.
As such I'll readily admit there the game doesn't initially cover all resolutions - its something I've tried hard to indicate publicly to people before release, along with the fact that post-release we'll be looking at providing additional skins.
It would have been fairly easy to 'stretch' the skins to fill up the entire page incidentally, but this would have lead to fuzzy text on a lot of devices and potentially headaches for people playing for long periods - something I personally would prefer not to happen.
For this reason I chose the 'bordered' approach - this allowed us to support as many devices as possible for the games release and also allows us to add additional skins in as we release updates, I fully realise this approach isn't something everyone will appreciate - but I still believe it was the best option available (short of my brain being made larger and/or me not requiring sleep ).

[Q] Any way to turn this into a tablet with WiFi only?

This was my wifes POS Phone till I upgraded her to a SGSIII for Christmas. Now I have a device that would be perfect for my daughter if it weren't for the pesky phone option and Sprint bloatware. Are there any roms available that strip this phone to bare bones with no radios except WiFi? Haven't been able to find any and it might not be on the top of the Dev's todo list so if anyone is up to a ROM that will make this device at least usable because as a phone it SUCKS, but for a kiddo it would be a great toy with some of the game apps. Thanks in advance, and if I missed a ROM that does exactly what I'm asking in the mountains of pages in the Dev forum, please use only a small flame as I'm old and have a cold LOL.

A tip: when asking for help you might want to avoid talking trash about a device we users enjoy using.
My advice, 'the device sucks' and is a 'pos' so why bother doing anything with it. Go buy yourself, your kid or whoever an ipod and move on.

Just hate HTC. Have since the TP2. No appologies for that when they make life just such a pain in the ass. Even cringed when the wife chose it but cest la vie. I'm not going against the boss. Maybe I'm just stupid but I've tried rooting but its a 2.3.4 and every option this thread gives me doesn't work for some reason or another. ShiftRR doesn't run at all saying ADB is at fault but I can ADB into the whole phone myself no problems, ShiftySonOfA almost works but creates a boot loop that thankfully is repaired by doing an --undo, Quickroot seems to work but then unroots the phone just as soon as it reboots. Trying to do it manually using the info on here gives me exactly the same boot loop as the ShiftySonOfA.BAT file does and trying to update from SD using a PG06img.zip I got from a rootkit fails. I can't help it if I'm a Samsung fan. Their goal in life isn't making their users stress out over their phones by daring to think they can do better than they can. If its too much to ask that my RAM isn't more than half full just with OS and bloatware because this phone refuses to root then so be it but even if its miles below my Nexus it's still MILES above any iPoo device.

Then throw it out and go buy a portable media player, or better yet send it to a dev who would put it to use and go buy some type of portable media player.

ROFL Speedy community. Half of you are talking about swapping out to Photons and the other half are moving to One X's. yes I've read an awful lot before posting a question. Guess I'll be getting absolutely no help here. Not that there is much help available for this device when all the links are broken and the ones that are working, don't work for their intended purpose. Feel free to delete the thread MOD I'll stay where I'm welcome, in the Samsung sections.

Well its probably been a while since you researched how to root, because if you done that more recently or even looked at my sig, you would have already rooted that shift. I posted it here and in 3 other well-known forums so its hard to believe that you haven't found it.
