Thunderbolt Boot clouds staying on too long? - Thunderbolt General

I just realized as of lately that my Thunderbolts Clouds stay on a little too long lately after booting. This meaning I can even "lock" the phone and unlock it to the clouds for about 1 minute. I thought it was maybe a setting on widgetlocker... But after uninstalling it it still has that problem.
The only other thing I can think of is that I recently updated "Launcher 7". Does anyone else have the same problem or should I uninstall and lose everything I did with Launcher 7?

I have a stock non rooted phone and it hangs on those clouds for at least 1 minute. I thought it was normal but maybe it is not. Come to think fastboot doesn't work either and my Eris would prob. Beat it in bootup time.

Mine used to hang a while too , bit I wasn't able to lock and unlock the screen though. Here I'm able to lock and unlock the screen, but it will still stay on the clouds until its completely ready

Mine does the same, and I don't/didn't have either of those things installed.

Fast boot only works if you power down and restart the device with the power button, reboots don't do fast boot.
The clouds stay on a long time in my phone also, but not usually more than like 45 seconds after the thunder sounds stop going.

Same here.. no longer then about 30 seconds.

Yeah I realized its a launcher 7 thing. It's like the phone is loaded but the cloud stay up and I'm able to lock the phone.

I don't use Launcher 7 but do occasionally use Launcher Pro Plus. My clouds tend to hang with or without LPP honestly.. on both the latest BAMF roms and Virus ROMs. I just assumed my phone was channeling my daughters inner care-bear.

I'm using adw ex but i dont think it has to do with launcher as much as sense stuff. With fast boot the clouds take almost no time at all, but it still takes a couple extra minutes for the radio to get going from the homescreen.

[Q] Thunderbolt Sluggish, laggy, and I got it to reset during tether

Just got my thunderbolt a few days ago. I haven't had the chance to root just yet. Too many days at work.
I had a bad problem with resetting on my EVO... I'd like to make sure this doesn't turn into round 2.
Its been sluggish on and off all day. Lagging through my texts messages while I am tethered to my laptop on LTE. It reset on me eariler while I was tethered. Did I overheat this thing?
Any input? Or where to look/start troubleshooting I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
Sounds weird. I haven't had any problems with mine.
Maybe a defective device? I have no idea.

Hmm another odd thing it does, is during a phone call the top part of the screen around the status bar kind of gets a greenish tint during the phone call if the person I am talking to doesn't have a picture. Is that the updated sense doing that? My Evo never did it. I'm gonna try and stress it again... I couldn't get it to swype properly, it would end the word before the I finished swyping it.
I hope I don't have a defective device

Might have to. Kinda wish I would have bought instore now. I'd imagine that would make potential swapping much easier!
This phone is awesome. I personally dont like waiting for devs to finish ROm/Kernals so i will be trying to bulid my own. Verizon / HTC have so many bloated items in this phone its unreal. Just debloating the phone makes it run faster via quadrant, overclocking it to around 1.4 to 1.5 is the most economical and i beleive most are able to do it with the required stock voltage (minues a little) and i get about 2200 on my 1.4ghz Senseless Virus ROM. Anyhow. The only thingthat gets to me is the lack of installed apps. Otherwise its freaking fast.
me and 9 other co-workers all got the thunderbolt the day it came out. two of us had horrific battery life and some lagging issues as well. i just wiped data and cache and seemed to fix it right up. you can give that a go or just root it and play around with all the kernels!!!!!!!! lol i can't go more than a few hours without flashing a new kernel...so addicting!!!!
Even before I rooted and debloated mine I never had even the slightest lag. I would recommend trying to get it exchanged. It shouldn't lag at all unless you have some kind of huge app constantly sucking CPU and RAM in the background.

Yea, I am getting force closes in the stock default text message app. Only apps I have installed are dolphin browser mini, swype, tweetdeck.
While in my 4g area yesterday during tether I had a few periods where the 4g would connect on and off for a few minutes before it solidified itself..
Do I have a dud? Or should I root it and see if these problems continue? Since I bought it from Letstalk.com, Would they even let me exchange it at a Verizon store?
Sounds like a dud. Just take a trip to Verizon and see what try can do.

[Q] Seeing home screen for an instance after pressing down the unlock button

Obviously when the screen is locked and you press the power button, you should see the lock screen right?
Well, this is not always the case for me. It's been many times that right after pressing down the power button, I can see my home screen for an instant and then the lock screen.
I'm a new android user and have had this problem with both LauncherPro and GoLauncher. This is a little bit annoying and I'm not sure if it is a common thing between android phones. Is there any way to fix that problem?
This happens to me too, a lot...
First thing I noticed about the phone. When I press unlock I see whatever is active for a split second, then the lock screen. Also, the clock seems to need refreshing when the screen is turned back on. First time seeing this on any android device.
This happens to me every single time I unlock my phone. Extremely annoying. Not a problem for me personally, but a huge issue for some people. Never had this problem on any of my other android phones.
I've only had that issue when I lock it while having a program running in the foreground, it will show that screen for a split second, then the lock pattern. When I'm on the homescreen and lock it, then push the power button, it shows the lock pattern the way it should.
Its a bug that has been identified. It will be fixed in gingerbread.

Mine does it too, also the battery status when charging takes half a second to update when you wake the display.
I don't understand why it's any concern, it's not like someone could steal much info in that split second.

Does this also happen with CM7? I haven't flashed it yet because I'm waiting for at least a RC. Seems like a weird bug to have, but if it's being fixed with the Gingerbread update then that can't be far away, either.

I guess that depends on what you do on your phone. For me it's just an annoyance.
It's these kinds of bugs, though, that stop corporate environments from adopting Android.

although android may not be perfect it is a very powerful OS.
But don't compare what LG has done to it as the norm. LG is obviously very poor at programming android.
I dont think there is an OS that can be more modified than android. unfortunatley the phone manufacturers have decied they neeed to modify the os so they have something unique. and not a one of them has done wthis without ruining the OS in process. Moto blur is the worse. Lg's phones have the poorest excuse for the android os.
sense looks pretty but is a resource hog.
Havent had a samsung. but the ones i see they seem to have done the best job at their changes without lagging the os.
But stick android when given proper drivers and basebands run great.
Its normal. Happens all the time. But what sux is sometimes if you touch the screen before the lockscreen comes back it will bypass the lockscreen. Happened to me several times. That's my only beef makes lockscreen worthless and probably hackable I would assume . Otherwise iccl

The only time I ever notice this is when you lock it and unlock within like three to five seconds. If you give the OS time to operate and lock it and unlock it like.. A minute later. I don't think it happens. At least not to me.
Edit: actually more like unlocking it ten seconds within locking it

Wow... seriously? Do we have to ***** and moan about EVERY LITTLE THING we see?
This "bug" has been around for a VERY long time - I've seen this happen off and on since Eclair on the N1, yet i've never seen a flame thread about it, nor have i ever thought: "OMG THIS IS SUCH A TERRIBLE PROBLEM!!"... Let alone attribute it to identifying Android as unpolished or unstable.
Seriously, what effect does this really have on you? It flashes so fast, that it's gone before you can move your finger from the power button to the unlock slider. It has no impact on the performance or functionality of the device whatsoever... It doesn't stop you from doing anything at all.
It has nothing to do with LG, the G2X, or any specific version of Android. It is because the lock screen (just like every other piece of software on the phone) is an app. When the screen is turned on, that app must be launched. The fact that you sometimes see the homescreen is an artifact of that app being launched when the screen is turned on. Would you rather that the lock screen run all the time in the background, just waiting for you to turn the screen on? My guess is you'd all ***** about the battery drain, or some other side effect if it were set up that way.
I'm really starting to think that 50+% of G2x owners are spoiled, and have a very over inflated sense of entitlement... And it's getting old. If you think it's so bad, please feel free to switch to an iPhone, Blackberry, or WinMo device.

I'm running that ROM. Still happens occasionally.
p.s. FWIW this seems to be more common when using launchers other than the stock launcher. Which makes complete sense if you think about it.

Since GB, boot up takes SIGNIFICANTLY longer. Am I alone?

I had been running rooted stock and had no problems at all. Since update my phone frequently becomes practically unusable and unresponsive with mild use.
I'm thinking maybe because I can't freeze all the bloat but what's really seemed strange is how friggin long the phone now takes to boot up!
Before update I wld see the g2x screen for maybe 5 seconds then wld come to the home screen but now it takes 40-45 seconds to move from the g2x screen... everytime!!
I've looked around and haven't seen it mentioned, so am I alone?

Mine also takes about twice as long to boot up as well but that's literally the only complaint I have over the Froyo install. I was rooted before with frozen apps and I've noticed they're still frozen now post update but now I don't have root. I'm wondering if it's an issue with some of those.
Mine seems faster also...
Mine boots up for the same time I think. The only diff I've noticed is that I don't see the second LG logo with the bar underneath. It shows me only the first one and then black screen and the animation with the green Droid and G2X logo.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
First off, why can't you freeze the bloatware? You installed the rooted version, so just use Titanium Backup or Antek to freeze it.
Second, most of the experience with the update (including mine) is that it's significantly faster.
The fact that you say you can't freeze the bloatware indicates to me that you did not wipe /data when you installed the ROM - if that is the case, it is most likely the cause behind the slowdown. I would suggest you reinstall again, making sure you wipe data and cache first as the instructions tell you to.

Actually I think My Account is still frozen BC I can't find it in the app list but car home and telenav and all that other garbage is back and shows up in Autokiller as running and they always just restart if I kill them :/.
And I know I froze all those apps but the only one that seems to have stayed frozen for me is My Account.
All of your previously frozen apps are still frozen and not in the app list?

I mis-understood where you said you were running "rooted stock". I did not mean to come across as condescending.
Install the rooted GB build from the dev forum and freeze away.
Also, the auto-killer apps are BAD. They will cause your phone to slow down, because many of these apps do not like to be killed. When auto-killer kills them, they restart - usually in a bad state, doing strange things that suck up CPU. After that they're killed over and over again. It's better to just let them be and let the OS suspend them when not in use or freeze them out all together.

[Q] Anyone have success fixing restart issues?

I've had my G2X for about a month, and have been experiencing the common issue where my phone randomly shuts off and the only way to get it to turn back on is to pull the battery.
I've installed the GB update, that didn't fix it. Factory reset didn't help either.
Has anyone successfully fixed this issue on their phone? If so, what'd you do? Is there any chance that rooting my phone would correct the problem?
Sorry if there was a post about this, I couldn't find anything talking about if anyone's been able to fix the problem.
Thanks
yes... the onlyhh way to fix the problem is to root! nvflash clock work mod recovery, then flash eagle blood 2.3.3 rom and it is perfect...
Thanks, this did indeed seems to do the trick. Not a single reboot so far after 2.5 days.

My G2X actually restarted on its own today. It was the first time since the first few days I had the phone over a month-month and a half ago. Wasn't really a big deal, lol. It comes back on.
Have been playing with this phone for 3 days now and haven't had any issues (I did install xboarder's stock rooted version). Minor screen bleed is the only issue.

Mine did both actually, shut down and restarts. But mostly just shut downs, which required a battery pull to power back on.
My 2 will do both - but I think the "shut-off" is a lock up, because the longer I leave it locked up, the less battery I'll have after I do a battery pull.
8 days of both phones not locking up by doing one restart per day per phone.
Since I raised the minimum CPU speed to 389 from 216, I have far fewer sleeps of death
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.
I've tried every ROM and kernel combination possible and nothing actually fixes these problems for me.
Wow this post was scary at first, I had a thunderbolt and no matter what. RUU, Different ROMS, Stock, Kernels, Radios. Changing all that didn't matter it still turns off constantly and doesn't turn back on till I do it meaning no text or calls, basically same as having a phone on silent all the time without even having the luck chance of pulling it out while ringing.....
I am on miui x.26 (whatever kernal that comes with it) and have over 40 hours of uptime. I haven't had a crash yet, I just manually restart every couple of days because I'm weird like that.
Sent from my LG-P999
Well 6 days into it and I've had a total of 2 shutdowns. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but both times were after being outside when it was ~90 degrees out.
This is still much improved, I used to get 3-4 per day on average.
I'm using Eaglesblood 2.3.3. I'm thinking of trying MIUI because it's so nice looking.
For me I did a battery replacement the first time directly from T-Mobile and the phone continued restarting on me. I was just about to request a replacement phone from T-Mobile until I recently purchased a different brand of battery containing the same specs as the stock battery and to my surprise no overheating and definitely no restarts. I feel that the restarts and lockups are due to faulty batteries shipped out with the phones. I'm suprised no one has mentioned this.

Wow, I told the CostCo kiosk girl I was having lock up problems and I had my grandkids with me. She took my phone and pulled the battery - at the same time my grandson stated he had to go to the bathroom NOW. She either looked at the battery or something on the phone under the battery. I didn't have time to ask. She didn't really comment and gave me my phone back.
Hmmmmmm........

ok so do they know what exactly is causing the shut downs or reboot on this phone? i just got mine today and it was pre installed with gingerbread and idk if there is root for the gingerbread build yet. i just want root but no custom rom for me. i love the stock rom. it kicked the crap out of my sensation 4g as far as speed goes in everyday use.

Anyone else disappointed with multitasking?

I'm coming from a samsung vibrant and although it's slower it seems like it multitasks a lot better. I'm pretty sure this is due to sense taking up way too much ram. The phone is pretty fast opening up apps and I'll probly end up keeping it but I'm very disappointed in the multitasking. Also I can't count how many times I have pressed the home screen button and it has to reload the home screens because it runs out of ram. Is anyone else having this issue?

Yes I have thought about rooting it but I'm kinda scared. I'm not new to rooting phones( I've rooted every Android phone I have had) but this one scares me because of no removable battery. My vibrant was nice because of a program called Odin that saved me quite a few times when I've had a bad flash. Odin was a program that would flash the phone back to stock firmware no matter what happend to your phone which made the vibrant virtually unbrickable. Does HTC have any software that will do that?

I know about Odin and no HTC software like that but if u follow the guides u wont break it. Oh and if hold the power button for ten seconds or so it will do a hard reset of the phone no matter if the phone is stuck in a boot loop or not. I was stuck in a boot loop because I was trying to theme something and it was just boot looping and I held the power button and sure enough it turned off the phone and I was able to get into boot loader again. So not having a removable battery shouldn't be an issue

lol, I watched that video before I bought this phone however, what the video doesn't show is that when you click on a app in the recent apps menu it usually has to reload the app so its not really truly multitasking. Android has a built in task manager that closes out the other apps when it needs more ram for the new app and because sence is a ram hog sometimes It will only allow me to run one app at a time. And i never said the phone sucks, I just said I was disappointed. I like the phone and I even like sence, ( its very sexy) but it uses way to much ram. Probably doesn't help that my home screens are loaded with Widgets too. : P

@ jriv,
My vibrant would also do a hard reset when you hold the power. However when I would bootloop and did that it would only reboot into a bootloop. Are u saying that you can reboot into recovery this way during a boot loop? I also had a Motorola cliq that I almost bricked but was able to pull out my SD card and put it in my computer so I could put another file on it and reflash the rom. With no external SD I am also hesitant.

Maybe I will check it out. I know if I keep it i will end up rooting it eventually but I am still trying to decide. The phones I had before the vibrant ( Motorola cliq and HTC my touch 3g) were a bit of a pain with radio compatability and roms. That is another reason I'm a little weary. I can't remember the last time ive had to use adb. Everything was so easy with the vibrant

The phones I had before the vibrant ( Motorola cliq and HTC my touch 3g) were a bit of a pain with radio compatability and roms. That is another reason I'm a little weary. I can't remember the last time ive had to use adb. Everything was so easy with the vibrant

Rooting is simple there is just a program you run and it roots you're phone for you.the other part is un locking the bootloader but there is instructions for that. As of right now there are no radios to choose from so all roms work pretty easy.

Is there a way to relock the bootloader and return to factory settings just in case I need to return the phone?

I'm coming from a samsung vibrant and although it's slower it seems like it multitasks a lot better. I'm pretty sure this is due to sense taking up way too much ram. The phone is pretty fast opening up apps and I'll probly end up keeping it but I'm very disappointed in the multitasking. Also I can't count how many times I have pressed the home screen button and it has to reload the home screens because it runs out of ram. Is anyone else having this issue?

"Loading" message on the home screen is caused by enabling a setting in "Developer options" called "Dont"t keep activities". This setting instructs the phone to "destroy" every activity as soon as you leave it. So in essence, everytime you leave the home screen to do anything else, the phone "destroys" HTC Sense. The loading message is HTC Sense being restarted once you exit to the home screen. Unchecking this "feature" will eliminate the "Loading" message.
Destroy activities seems clear by default. Was wondering if anyone played with the background process setting though...it has a default and 1-4 processes allowed.

I think I hit it by mistake while in the developer options. It was only after being in here that the "loading" started happening. Clearing it resolved it for me. Not sure how the background processes setting changes things. I left it at default.
forget the developer options or scripts. they don't help.
as many of you know there're no multitasking issues on other recent android phones. you can leave games or streaming apps and come back to them half an hour later and still be in the same spot. with HOS as soon as you leave them, you're going to start over. the oom values don't help much with the situation as the phone has plenty of memory for any applications. the issue isn't the memory available, but how the phone manages saved states and KERNEL is responsible for that. so until a talented soul would be able to fix it on KERNEL level for us we're are stuck with it.
I have a Vibrant that I still mess with, if you ask me Odin sucks big time. It's more of a crutch then anything if you ask me. Of all the 5 android devices I hate the Vibrant the most. That being said it still is a good phone and the one I use currently is run Slim ICS.
I can tell you that you don't have to worry about the non-removable battery. Holding down the power button will always power off the phone. No need for a battery pull.
I can also tell you that multitasking SUCKS on the stock One S rom. The phone reloads apps much much more often then my other android devices.
See this 77 page thread on the ATT One X forum if you disagree. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646409&highlight=multitasking

Bingo! Mannequin is spot on about the multitasking problem.
