I've spent the last hour searching through but can't find a problem like this one.
I switched the phone off last night and when back on this morning it booted up OK except I had lost all my 'people' and had no contact list.
I rebooted again, this time it came up with a cprog.exe error message.
I rebooted again and it came up with a device.exe error message.
Another reboot and no radio.
Stuck in airplane mode and when you try to 'turn your phone on' you get the windows swirling dots then it locks up.
If I take the SIM card out, i can run wireless to the internet with no problems and the rest of the phone seems to function correctly.
If I put a SIM card in, the problems all start again PLUS it gets hot below and to the left of the sim card.
I have flashed the stock ROM from the HTC site but the same problems appear.
Apart from a few tweaks (thanks to XDA!) I've never really pushed the limits of this phone.
Can anyone please suggest a course of action to resolve the problem?
I really love my HD2, it feels like my lover has cheated on me...
I've tested it some more and it fundtions perfectly with the SIM card out.
I've used the SIM card in another phone and that works perfectly.
Has anyone had experience of a SIM reader failure?
Self help rules!
I renamed PIM and moved it to a temp folder.
A fresh PIM loaded and my problem is solved.
Full access to the SIm card and full functinality restored.
I didn't need to load a fresh ROM, I could have just renamed PIM and saved myself a load of grief.
Thanks for all the replies lol....

HI. I´d love to have the s730 HTC home screen on my Vox. Does anybody know where could I get it?
Thx
Ditto that! I also have a 710 and would like the 730 homescreen/theme
Same here
We have tried to use the extracted files posted here earlier but it seems there is bunch of stuff missing...
Any new extraction or guidance would be helpful as well
The file posted here can be extracted : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1732690&postcount=4
I've been able to use HTC homescreen on my vox but I can't get some things to work like the favorite people application and the weather part... In fact only the clock works
Unfortunately I don't have time to look further into it, but it shouldn't be too difficult for the geniuses out there
wont spb mobile shell give a similar home screen?
Isn't it only for pocket pcs ?
It´s done.
HTC Home Screen for HTC Vox :
Found in this Forum under HTC Tornado. Works fine on my VOX. Be sure to install to the device!!! when you install it to SD Card Phone crashes at boot.
Thank you very much Gregory for this great theme.
Truplaya
Edit: Seems the phone sometimes crashes when you insert the sd card. without sd card it boots fine... Maybe someone knows why and can fix this error...
Before downloading you have to notice that this cab can cause a crash and you have to hard reset the phone.
Gah. A hard reset is now needed all because of that cab above this post.
Total crash, stuck in reboot cycle.
A warning to others.
(installed to device, not storage card of course)
Update: Seems that the cab did something to the phone's MicroSD support. Or something. I can boot the phone without having the storage card inserted. Any idea what may have been changed? I'm guessing something in the registry, but not sure really.
Same problem to me schlinkey. But i can boot without sd card and insert it when booted. I added a notice above about the problem. Sorry that you had to hardreset your phone.
Did the Plugin worked for you when you boot without sd card?
I can take some screens of my phone (Vox) with HTC Plugin tommorow if wanted.
Took some pictures this morning.
It's alright, a hardreset now and then keeps the phone running smoothly
When I managed to boot the phone (without having the SD inserted) I uninstalled the plugin. The error remained however, so ended up with a hardreset anyway
All working again now!
Got it installed on my Vox now, currently uninstalling look alike themes and stuff that I no longer use to free up space on my phone now. Thanks for getting the New HTC Theme to work on the Vox. Just ned to get weather plugin working now. I've also got an annoying problem where my Vox with my T-Mobile Sim in says that I am Roming and the carrier plugin says thatI am connected to T-Mobile UK. I'm in the UK and using a T-Mobile UK Sim.

No problem with the Home screen, but I have had the reboot problem with the SD card for ages.
I did manage to get it to boot with the SD card in by doing various things.
When I first had the problem switching to flight mode before a reboot fixed the problem. The after installing some software it would only reboot with the SD card in if I first ran SK tools to clear duplicates in the notification list and selected a home screen which did not access the SD card (including the MRU list) such as "Windows Simple".
When I installed the Office 6.1 update the problem appeard to go away.
Then I installed Facade and so far have not managed to get it to boot with the SD card inserted.
I guess I could uninstall Facade - but I want to use it.
A Hard Reset is too drastic and I don't want to try that - easier to remove the SD card than to spend all day re-installing everything on my phone - no gurantee it will work anyway.
I suspect its a problem with the SD card driver as I have read that later ROM versions fixed the problem.

Sounds like you need Sprite Backup 6

I thought about that - not tried it - I assume it would back up all the registry settings along with the files.
But if I do a restore, I assume it would be back as it was before the hard reset, including the cause of any problem.
Although I suppose it might allow for some experimentation, with the ability to put things back to how they were before any changes were made.
Can someone who has used it give some comments on how useful sprite would be in these circumstances.
Hi all! Has anyone experienced the "My People" application stopping working after a while? After I installed it, it worked shortly, but now when I try to open it, the list flashes quickly, then disappears. This is from both the Home screen, and through the Start Menu. This has happened both times I've installed it. Any ideas?
Thanks!
ssorrell
Just now installed on my S620 Excalibur and seems to work ok.

i have the HTC 5800 and when i try to install this i get a message about not having sufficient privledges.
Any ideas?
A couple of weeks ago my phone started generating an SIM error message at startup.
I then changed ROM from the Orange WM6 to the latest HTC version, and since then i get the same error message.... Missing or invalid SIM please contact you service provider....
The weird thing about this is that I still get the error message, I clear it twice, and it asks me for my PIN and continues to work just fine... I thought that changing the ROM would sort this as I just put the error down to some sort of OS problem initially.
Anyone else experienced the same of similar issues?
I replaced my SIM to see if that made any difference but that hasn't changed a thing either...
.G.
the same here. don't know why..
hi! ive had alot of experience with phones giving similar errors. found its one of two reasons..
1) the phone is blacklisted. its weird but blacklisted phones works sometimes and other times it gives some sort of invalid sim error.
2) the sim is just simply not making proper contact with the metal pins. in nokia phones i usually just put a small piece of cartboard or thick paper in between the battery and the sim and the pressure forces the sim closer to the pins.
dunno about vox tho. put its worth a try
I get the same problem, with an O2 SIM card in a HTC-branded S710. Sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn't.
If it happens while turning the phone on, then I find that all of the sounds are playing faster than usual also (things like message and call tones are high pitched). If I go into Comm Manager, put it into flight mode and back out again, it not only finds the SIM card properly but also fixes the sound issue.
I wonder whether it's something to do with my SIM card possibly being a USIM card instead, since it says "O2 3G" on the card, but of course, the handset is not 3G-capable.

My excalibur (HTC 620) phone has exactly the same symptoms with a USIM (3G). It has no problem with other 2G SIM.
I am not sure whether it is something with the ROM. I flashed my phone with wm6.1 rom cooked by Kavana.
I had the same issue with one of my 3G SIM's. Eventually I didnt know what else to try so I got a SIM swap and thats solved the issue. Not a single problem since then
Greetings people!
Yesterday I got this message while booting up my TP (latest official ROM):
"The device is unable to boot because either you have turned off the device incorrectly or tried to install an application from untrusted source. Press END to reset your device or press any other button to cancel. This operation will delete all your personal data and restore the device to its factory default settings"
However apart from that message, phone works flawlessly without any noticable change in speed or stability! The only apparent problem is that it takes a while longer (about 10 seconds) to boot up because of that message. I tried a couple of backups, problem was solved at first, but returned later...
I do take daily backups, but since I hardly monitor my phone when I reset it, this problem could have been caused by an app or reg entry a while ago... and searching for the appropriate backup will be a pain in the ass.
Since there's no change in speed or stability, do you think it would be wise to keep using the phone as is, or is it possible this would cause further problems down the road?
Any other way to troubleshoot it (at least to find the program that's causing this) other than a hard reset?
Edit: couldn't wait so I reverted to a week-old backup, installed back most of my applications, and it seems to be fixed (for now)
Update! I just tried a new SD to try XDAndroid, and guess what, the error disappeared!
So there must be a program I had installed in the storage card, possibly trying to start a service or something on every reset... and failing.
Is there a way to troubleshoot this? Maybe through SKTools or anything similar? I have a ton of apps installed into storage card and it will be a pain in the back cover to try by trial-and-error.
Thank you in advance
edit: inserted my old storage card again, error did not appear, problem solved! At least for now
Still if anyone knows how to troubleshoot this, please let me know
Update: Seems this error occurs every time I use SPB backup.
Yesterday, after a scheduled backup, the error came back. To troubleshoot this, I removed the SD card, did a soft reset, the error was gone! I took another manual backup, and again, the error came back.
So there must be something happening with SPB Backup and my SD card. Probably messing with files on the SD, or the driver or whatever (no idea there, I'm a total noob when it comes to software).
Moved the issue to the SPB forum
I have this message to, but I have never used SPB Backup
Well, in my case, it was obviously something tampering with the SD card (even if not SPB backup, something else)
Have you tried rebooting your phone with the SD card taken off? I just wait till it boots normally, and then insert it back. Works for me every time.
If that still happens, that probably means whatever is causing the problem is in your main memory.

Well I tried that just to see what would happen and I did not get the error message. So it is something on the SD card, but booting without it is not an option for me as I have several boot-start apps that are housed on it.
Perhaps one of those apps is broken?
As far as my case goes, I kept on using it for three months after the error appeared, without noticing any lag or issues at all. The only downside was that it took me three minutes to boot up, something I got used to.
If that's no big deal for you, I'd suggest you just leave it as it is for now, and check for lagging or specific applications failing (maybe one of them will be the app that's causing the problem?). If nothing happens down the road I think it could be safe to leave it as it is.
Now, if you can't stand this, I guess the only practical solution would be a hard reset. You can always play around with removing/reinstalling those apps you mention (or even better, installing them in the phone's memory) to check if and which one is broken, but I can understand that this not only will be a huge burden, but you may come to the conclusion that no specific app is causing this and something went south in the OS.
Personally the only apps which include a boot-up service I have installed into my SD are Football Monitor and PocketWeather. I tried removing both of them them back when I first had that issue, it didn't work...
Sorry I couldn't help more :/
While navigating the hboot menus on my HTC Desire S, 2.3.5 Stock, Sense 3.0, I accidentaly pressed "simlock|"
It reported:
FAT32 init OK
Open MCCMNC file fail
Open CID file fail
It has definitely messed something up: my phone boots, accepts my SIM pin, unlocks my SIM, displays my Mobile Provider as one of the network options to connect to, but fails to register with the network every time.
So it doesn't mention that the phone is locked, or ask me to enter an unlock code or anything... but the sim that was previously working is now not working at all...
Any ideas? Will an RUU or anything get my phone back to a working unlocked state?
First of all I would try this: remove SIM card, SD card and battery (everything actually), put them back and reboot the phone to see what happen.
As the last resort, If you don't mind reinstall all your apps and data (it will erase everything), you could simply execute and hard reset:
http://www.knowyourcell.com/htc/htc...77971/how_to_hard_reset_the_htc_desire_s.html
Thanks - did that - but no luck - the phone totally reverted to factory settings, but the SIM is still not registering on the network... it seems a change has taken place at an even lower level...
The error that you wrote gives you "fail". Doesn't look like it has been done something to the phone.
Do you have any other option in hboot?
How about turn off the radio a couple of times (airplane mode) then reboot?
I found this by the way:
http://www.simonjstuart.com/2011/05...not-allow-a-connection-to-this-network-error/
I remember I solve it by playing with airplane mode and turn off the phone few times, with my friend Desire S.
It definitely did something - for 4 hours, no ability to get onto mobile network. Seems it mayt have actually modified the SIM card. I managed to get it working again - I put the SIM in another phone, booted, and then put it back in my phone and it's working again - do you think that's possibly what fixed it?
Could it be.. you never know..
That's interesting thus, looks like the SIM card got somehow "resetted" by the other phone.
I'll keep this in mind for the future.
So out of nowhere today, i awaken my phone and I see an error "SIM card removed, reboot phone" I reboot the phone and now I have no signal and a SIM card symbol in the notification bar. I didnt remove the SIM so I dont know what happened or how to fix it. Anyone know how to fix this?
EDIT*** Nevermind. I removed the sim, then put it back and that solved the problem. Probably should have tried that before posting lol
happened to me a week ago. I was puzzled. I removed the sim and battery at the same time like 10 times. So I flashed back to stock and took it in. The guy plugs the phone in (probably checking for root) and then unplugs pulls the sim and battery and turns it back on. All working like nothing happened.
