New Brick! - G Tablet General

Hi all,
I have successfully flashed ROMS for my Gtab for over a month now. Tonight, though I have a problem. I decided to to NVFlash back to stock (which I have done successfully several times), so APX mode works. However, THIS time, the Gtab does what I believe is that Bootloop thing. I have read threads about it, but I don't quite understand what I do to fix it.
So I get into APX mode - then what? Again - Again, I have tried NVFlash and this time it will not boot into stock - It just loops from the Viewsonic screen to the G Tablet screen over and over again.
I appreciate being rescued from my disaster.
Thanks!
Mark

mlinder1958,
I am understanding you have nvflashed and are having boot loops.
If so, you can usually re-partition with ClockWorkMod and that normally will
fix it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844088
When you get CWM installed, reboot into recovery (CWM) with power/volume+. Go to the
advanced menu and partition. Take a few minutes--don't panic. The Fix Permissions.
Then Wipe Dalvic Cache. The go back to the Main Menu and Wipe Cache and then
Wipe/Reset Factory Data. The reboot and hopefully you will come up running right.
If not, the re-do the nvflash back to stock.
Hope this helps.
Rev

Hi Rev,
Thanks for replying.
Here is the problem. When I enter APX mode, I hear the PC (Windows 7) make its little beep sound and the gtab screen goes blank, but there is no dos prompt window opening in windows unless I run the gtablet .bat file. This is where I am confused. Since i am getting into apx mode, how do i move put recoery and update.zip back onto the gtablet since no indication (drive letter) of the gtablet appears?
Again, I can run NVFlash and the dos prompt appears, showing the progress and the gtablet black screen displays the nvflash info at the top.
I know I need to get CWM back on there. I just don't know how to do it from APX mode withou a drive letter appearing.
Thanks again.
Mark

mlinder1958,
I gave you the CWM link so you could download the correct CWM file.
Now we need someone to come along who can tell you how to use nvflash
to load CWM into your tablet. I have never used that procedure as I have
used my microSD card in /SDCARD2 whenever I have needed it.
I will see if I can find the procedure, but you need to be looking too. If you
can flash CWM on the tablet, then you can follow my repair process.
Rev

To fash CWM recovery with nvflash, you follow the same procedure as flashing back to stock but replace part9.img in the stock image with the .img file extracted from the cwm zip download rnamed to part9.img.

So I rename update.zip to part9.img?

Unzip and extract the recovery.img - then rename THAT to part9.img (and backup the old file first, of course).

roebeet,
Oh man, what an honor!
Anyway, when I extract the zip it gives me the recovery folder and the update.zip file, which I am famliar with. Howewver, I see no recovery.img file. Or did I find/unzip the wrong file?
sorry for the long drawn out call for HELP
Mark

confirmed. I am confused. I cannot find any file called recovery.img after I unzip the CWM 08 zip file.
any help is appreciated.
Mark

The recovery.img is inside the update.zip... keep extracting ;-)

The recovery.img is inside the update.zip. It's a "file inside a zip inside a zip". I used to do this early on, but later started using rar files to make it less confusing.
No worries on the thread - you made me blush.

Roebeet and Rev,
I AM DE-BRICKED!
Thank you so much for your help.
Maybe a oughtta tone down my flashing for awhile : )
You guys ROCK!
Mark

Glad to hear! Many thanks to Rev for all the good advise!

Everyone,
Let's just all celebrate.
When I read a post from someone with a major or hard problem and sense the sadness,
it really makes me sad too.
It is so great to help someone and see that sadness become joy!! Anybody that
wouldn't like that has to be a rock head!!
Mark, now just ENJOY!!
Rev

Thank you everyone who responded to this thread. This also fixed my problem of a bricked/looping system.

when i tried to go back to power + vol + a triangle with "!" shows up. any remedy?

Do you rename it part9.img or 09_SOS.img?
It seems as if there is no 'part9.img' and just the latter
Edit*Ah part9 is the one in the normal NVFlash and I am trying out nvflash_gtablet_46 to fix my issues
edit2* didn't work for me, a shame

I'm in the same boat as Citi is. Still a no go for me. I have even tried what was described in this thread to no avail:

Here is one thing that I am seeing that I also didn't see mentioned.

The "Can't Mount" error has been consistant for a while. Also something else I forgot was that when connected through USB to the PC, I can't see the device in My Computer. It is there and does allow an NVFlash though.

My gTablet is in the same boat after reflashing it after using VeganTab v7.0. I'm going to try the recovery.img rename this afternoon to get it out of the bootloop.

Step By Step Way to root Using Flashrec(Updated 4/5)

This video I posted is to help people get the custom rom installed which will enable root. This is for people who do not want to go the adb shell way. This method is simpler but will require you to flash a custom ROM onto your phone. You will not have to download the SDK for this method.
*** Use at your own risk. Although i have not come across any one on forums who bricked their phone, there is sill a possibility that this can brick your phone. I take no responsibility if you brick your phone.**
Have tested this on Windows 7 and Windows Xp

Hey everyone, I made a video on this, and some people said I should do a step by step guide, so here goes.
First things first, you are going to need to download these files.

Do not extract the Rom zip file, it needs to stay in the zip.
Ok, lets do this in steps, should make it easier:
Step 1: Mount the sd card and place all the files downloaded onto the root of the sdcard.
Step 2: Download some sort of file manager, ex Estrongs File Manager, and run/open the flashrec apk.
Step 3: Once it's finished installing, unplug the usb cable, run the app, and hit the button, "backup recovery image". If you get an error, try rebooting your phone, make sure the usb cable is unplugged.
Step 4: Exit app, and mount the sd card again, and move recovery-backup.img to your desktop, then rename recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2.img to recovery-backup.img
Step 5: Unmount sdcard, unplug usb cable, and go back into the flashrec app(should be named recovery flasher in all programs list)
Step 6: hit restore backup image. Once finished flashing, power down phone.
Step 7: After you power down your phone, hold the Vol Down button, then hold down the power button. Phone should boot into hboot. Press home for recovery.
Step 8: To ensure you have a backup of your phone before we continue, do a nandroid v2.2 backup.
Step 9: After the nandroid backup is complete, you can now choose apply "sd card update choose", and choose the modaco or damage control rom
Step 10: Reboot your phone and you should be all set.
Any issues or anything unclear, let me know and I will try to help make it clear.

What was the error you got in the vid when you did the backup with flashrec? Because I get the same error. It says "Backup FAILED: Could not run command." and I never get a button that says restore.
Should I type recovery.img in before I hit backup?

Rebooted itself after a moment and now seems normal.

Nope. Same thing. I backup and it says backup complete. I enter recovery.img into the blank field (which is what I renamed the img file to) and hit restore and it says flash complete (or something). Then, I turn off my phone, reboot in hboot mode, hit home, get the HTC logo, then bam-- scary warning/dead phone symbol.
I'm gonna try one more thing....

Ok, let's try this. Rename the recovery img file to the name that flash rec makes. It should be recovery-backup.img . This method is said not to work with some phones. If this is correct, you're going to have to use the other method.
Rename it and then do flash rec again, or rename it and go straight to the hboot sequence?

Do you have ClockworkMod. Recovery solarnz version R4c installed? What sdcard are you flashing the zip file from? You chose the wrong option from the recovery menu...you need to choose "install zip file from sdcard" or something like that. Then "choose zip file" navigate to it and choose it,
If you are trying to flash the zip file from your 'internal' sdcard, it won't work. You need a physical micro sdcard, inserted in your Xoom.

Same Issue with Blue Phokus!Tiamat Screen
Let me give you some specifics on exactly what I tried to do, maybe I made an obvious mistake that lead to this problem.
First I am am on a stock kernel Xoom that has had CWM Recovery flashed and a new boot.img flashed so that I could root it. I did that a few weeks ago so that I could start taking advantage of some of the superuser applications I wanted to use. It did not take me long to realize that I still seemed to be locked down a bit as far as overclocking and the like. So I decided to start considering custom roms/kernels. I decided to go with the Tiamat-Xoom-Rom-2.2.2.Moray.zip. I opened up CWM Rom Manager and go to install ROM from SD Card, and go to my downloads folder and choose the zip. From there CWM takes over on backing up / installing the new ROM. However, it will never get past that blue splash screen. I was able to reboot into recovery and load a backup I took right before trying to load the ROM. However, any help getting the ROM to work would be appreciated.

You will need to go into recovery menu, choose: wipe data/factory reset, then reboot. If you change roms, in this case from stock to Tiamat Moray, you will need to wipe/factory reset. Otherwise, bootloops.
Thanks and a couple questions
i had read that I had to do a factory reset /restore before doing this and thought that might be the problem. I appreciate the quick response a couple questions I have.
Will this reset also reset my boot.I mg and recovery? Do I have to catch the boot sequence back into recovery before it reboot after the reset to avoid issues or let it boot fully? I do appreciate the help.

No a "wipe data/factory reset" will only wipe/reset your data to the basic level of the most recent rom you flashed. You need to do this to clear out anything from earlier versions that might conflict with the new rom.

[Q] Root or restore after Flash?

I did the wrong thing and assumed my phone was still rooted after using t-mobile's upgrade from froyo to gingerbread.
I flashed my phone and now I am stuck on the manual mode screen. I assume (oh boy) I cannot place a custom rom since my phone wasn't rooted and therefore doesn't have permission to write to the phone. (I can't flash bootloaders)
At this point my data on phone is trashed I am sure, but I do have the contents of my sd card intact. I didn't backup before I started - hijole! I know.
I am not sure if I can use Super one click to root and continue to install a custom rom, or I should go back to base line and restore to original. Problem is I don't know how to goto the original at this point, and I don't know if super one click will work with my phone at its current state.... Argh! Will post pic of screen when I go to lunch today... Thought i had it with me on my iPhone. I assume to much!
Can you be more specific on the manual mode screen and what it looks like? Just to clarify, when you flashed from Froyo to GB (using Kies Mini, I assume) you did lose root. However, that does not prevent you from flashing a custom ROM. You can use ODIN or Heimdall to flash a ROM, then use one of those again to flash a kernel with root, with CWM, with voodoo lagfix, all of the above, or use SuperOneClick (the latest) to root it.
I'm guessing you might be able to get into download mode which means you could ODIN RaverX3X's 2.3.6 Stock (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353176) which is the Kies Mini official update just repackaged for ODIN. That will get you onto stock 2.3.6. From there you have options
I am supplying a pic of the "Manual Mode" I was referring to, and yes I did originally use Kies to upgrade from Froyo to GB. Again thanks for the info:

Sweet, so you have it working?
I think he says is stuck on that screen.
Do a battery pull on your device to turn it off, then put it back in. To put it into download mode for odin, hold volume up+down while plugging your phone into your pc. Then use odin to flash.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
The problem he initially had is the rainbow screen and, although he can get into download mode, he's been unable to get his computer to see the phone. Thus he couldn't use ODIN to re-flash a good ROM.
djlalorocks, can you verify the state of the phone now? The screenshot you gave, by the way, is the CWM recovery screen. If we can get a good CWM-based ROM onto your SD card then you could flash from there.
Do you have an SD card reader for your computer you can use? I know the phone's not working in mass storage so that option is out.
Edit: My apologies; I went back and re-read what you wrote. When I saw that you found the upload feature I thought you meant you got a ROM to upload to the phone. I didn't realize you meant the picture of the screen. I'm slow sometimes
Haven't had a chance to work on it... I am on a mac, and yes I can place files onto a sd. My windows computer is having usb driver issues.

Heimdall (open source alternative to ODIN) works on the MAC, I believe. Regardless, if you can download Raver's Kj6-Rom-CWM-Offical-GB-2.3.6, put it on the SD card, go into the recovery screen (the one where you made the screen shot), use the volume down key to scroll to "install zip from sdcard", press the power button to select it, then select "choose zip from sdcard", scroll to where you put the file mentioned above, select it with the power button, then scroll to "Yes - Install sgs4g-OfficialGB2.3.6.zip" and select it.

[ROM][3.21.2012]NVFlash ICS 9.2.1.17 US/WW/TW Restore[FULLY STOCK!!NOT ROOTED!!]

Hi
Here are the nvflash versions for the .17 update. For those that wanna go back to stock for warrenty or have a dualboot this can come in handy.
I've tested the WW version on my on transformer and it worked (got a B70 with SBK1) created the US and TW version the sameway with the same config files so it should work! LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS FOR YOU
But remember i'm not responsible for any bricks flashing my causes and you do this on your own riks.
Quick guide:
1. Connect cable to computer and turn device on while holding down Volume Up. Screen will stay off, but USB will come on.
2. Find “APX” device in Device manager and update driver, then point it at usbpcdriver directory from the zip.
3. Run download.bat.
I'm hosting them on my own server:
http://www.xdafileserver.nl/
*Added US version, and TW version
Thanks
.
Worked great on a B60 and a B70.
Thank you.

Yes
NVFLASH'ing removes every partition and restores the orignal one.
Windows won't allow me to install the driver. It says the third-party INF does not contain digital signature information, and it doesn't give me an ignore and proceed anyway option. Any ideas? I'm doing this from device manager.
Edit: if anyone else has this happen, rebooting to boot options (the screen that lets you boot into safe mode and such) there is a setting to disable signed drivers. That worked for me.
This is so useful. Thanks.
Really good job! Thanks man!
nicely done! I was thinking about creating one for this version but I got tied up with work.

My recovery it's the same, how is the recovery stock? you have screens?
I read that is normal in stock (android with admiration sign)
Thanks in advance, sorry for my english
This process works fine. A few things to keep in mind:
1) Unzip the .7z file in a folder in a folder at the root of your hard drive: I typically open my Windows boot drive, create a new folder, name it "nvflash" and dump the archive's contents into it. This avoids getting errors as a result of the Windows folder/file path being too long.
2) Timing is important when connecting the tablet to the computer: on Windows 7, I simply press the power on+volume up buttons for 2-3 seconds (up until the "new hardware found" bubble appears in the tray area), I then let go and make sure the screen remains off (*VERY IMPORTANT*).
3) To install the Windows driver for my TF101, I go to Device Manager, right-click on the APX icon (it should show a yellow exclamation point), update the driver by pointing Windows to the /usbpcdriver folder (e.g. c:\nvflash\usbpcdriver, for example), let Windows finish the install and ONLY then start the flashing process by running download.bat in Administrator mode.

[Q] HELP! Did I just render my phone useless??

I installed an app called Chainfire on my LG Optimus L9 last night, which runs on Jelly Bean (a no, no for this app, but I didn't know)) and it stopped booting normally. It turns on fine, but when the LG logo shows up it just stays stuck there now.
I have CWM v6.0.1.2 on there, so I booted into it and noticed that I never did any backups (another no, no.), so it's seemingly of no use to me. I asked a few people on another forum and was told my only option was to do a wipe data/factory reset, which I did. I needed a fresh ROM install, I was told, and I was provided with the following instructions:
There's a guide to clockwork here. If you can't boot the handset into Android, you'll need to access the SD Card within Clockwork. Boot into CWM again and plug the phone into the PC. Within Clockwork, Select Mounts & Storage, then Mount USB Storage. If this works, you should see an external drive appear in your PC.
Leave the phone for now, then head over to here and download the file called LeeDroid HD V3.2.1 (FTP). Once this has downloaded, place the zip file into the root of the phones SD Card. Once copied, go back to the phone again and head back to clockworks main menu. Select Wipe Cache, let it do it's thing, then Wipe Data/Factory Reset (this probably isn't that important). You then want to head to Install zip from SD Card, Choose Zip and then navigate to the zip file you just copied. Select it, then confirm. Let it do it's thing, highlight Reboot Now and it should boot in to Android!

My problem now is in not being able to access or mount USB storage as I have nothing there. I have the phone connected to my PC via USB, but I can't access my SD card.
I think I really screwed up. Is there still anyway to get my phone working again? I'm completely lost here, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Great......I tried tinkering around with some options in CWM and now I can't even get back into CWM during boot. There's no more flashing lights prompting me to enter recovery mode (or whatever it's called) and now the LG logo pops up, stays there for a few seconds and then goes to a screen with an dead looking Android figure lying on its back with a red exclamation point....

try using adb to flash a new ROM and/or recovery. that's a true last ditch attempt at flashing things. it will work. next time, don't use CVM, use TWRP, if it available for your device, and have a backup ROM/ ROM .zip available next time, so this doesn't happen again.

I'm trying to push a stock ROM onto the phone right now with adb using the following command:
adb push rom.zip /sdcard
but it keeps returning an error message of "permission denied".
What am I doing wrong?
And I also noticed that I can't boot in to the stock recovery mode either. Whenever I try, it takes me to a screen with an upright Android icon with a blue spinning hexagonal shape, the screen goes black and then it self boots back to the LG logo and stays there or reboots again. So I can't get into recovery mode.....

I've followed this guide to the T and keep receiving this error.

The phone IS connected and recognized by the PC, so I don't know why this is happening. I've tried two different KDZ files, they both give me the same error.
