Proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy S 4G. It was loaded with bloat so I rooted it. All was well until yesterday when the following issues occurred......
1- The gallery opens and says "no items" when there are pictures there. I can see the thumbnail image but clicking on that only opens a black screen.
2 - I have no audible notifications. I get an error message "process com.android.mms" has stopped and force close.
3- I cant update any of my programs. The updates/reinstall download hangs and never connects. error message " process com.android.vending" has stopped then force close
I was careful to only delete files associated with the bloatware but may have deleted something very much needed.
Any help is greatly appreciated and apologies if this is posted in an incorrect thread.
stupid question, have you tried a complete reboot? Taking battery out and putting it back in?
aside from that it sounds like if that doesnt fix it then you removed something that the system needed...if noone can come up with anything for you a hard reset may be in order..
and this should be moved to general or q&a forum.
Hope you get it fixed!
Pulled battery, sim and sd. Done reset with T-Mo on line and Samsung tech support. Thanks for the reply. Will move post.
I would do a factory reset man, Is not a big deal. Sounds like you deleted a file that shouldn't have deleted.
Try to only delete apps and not system files.
I don't recommend deleting "com.android" files unless you know what you are doing. If you didn't delete any file that begins with "com.android" or similar then it means you deleted a file that try to invoke those files.
If you want to hard reset your phone go to Setting>Privacy>Factory data reset.
Hope this helps
@Moshe22 -- I've done 3 factory and data resets with the same results. sadly that doesn't or didn't add my missing file/s that I may have deleted on accident.
Thanks for the reply.
If that is the case and you have done the 2 types of reset, the one described in my previous post and the one where you enter into recovery mode then i would advised to flash your phone with one of the ROM's in this forum. That should fix it. Make sure you research alot before you flash your phone.
1. Duplicate post
2. Wrong forum
@Toshonobu --
This was already pointed out so it was moved to the correct forum. Can't help people being polite and answering on this forum as well.
Thanks for not offering any advice and just pointing out my posting error. Cheers
Just do what Moshe22 said.
There is a stock rom and the kb5 enhanced in these forums, so take your pick.

Exception with Contacts - so like as in 4.1.99x
I have the same problem as in 4.1.99x, that I can not add a contact in my group (there is still ony one, which was working after some crashes in 4.1.999) without a crashed application
If I look into the exception Monitor, I can found a lot of:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Failed to find the My Contacts group"

What can I do or must do ?
History: I have had the G1 not so long time, but modif. it via WIPE to the 4.0.x ( stable )
After this (2 days later I upgrade to 4.1.111)
from this status I was following the description with the 2 Step to 4.1.999, where I have see the error the first time. With 4.0.x / 4.1.111 I haven't recognize this problem, because I have add some friend in my contact-list. For my meaning, this one was coming in, during upgrade in the 3 steps: WIPE, Google-Recovery, CM-Update 4.1.999.
Hint: If I update the phone, I start the phone WITHOUT a Mobile-Card: because I have had one time a bill over 200€ for data connection, and nobody knows why. So I boot the phone after update without card, check APNdroid, if 3G etc. disabed, shut down the phone, insert the casrd and boot again.
Maybe this handling calls the error ?

Post in the right section.
Also, try searching before you post. After you do that, post in the RIGHT SECTION.
Then, try dropping to recovery, wipe, wipe ext, fix ext, then reflash. And boot, yes, with your card in place. It won't kill you to do it once.
(Oh, and post in the right section, please. )
First of all: If you mean the "Dream Q&A" will be the right the Thread. pls let the Mod/ Admin move this one.
Back to the problem:
YES, I have use the search function and didn't found any usefull infos.
>>> ( how does I love this answer! If you found time to write this one, than I think, you know the answer - pls give me this one )
YES. I have reflashed the 4.2.1 with the card inside the phone: No change
Btw.: I was falling also in the error with the ext2 and ext3, so I change this one on the PC via tune2fs. But normaly every program, which need a DB and did not found it, create one. Or isn't it ?
What should you do?

Yeah good luck with that. Posting anything in the QA section is like talking to a brick wall. At least amongst all of the beratings, you sometimes get an answer in the Dev section. Honestly, I have had much better luck on the T-Mobile forums than here.

I downgraded from 4.2 to 4.1 on my s3 and noticed I started to get the message of low space. but I knew it was only using 4GB. long story short, i was dumb and deleted the folder outside of sdcard0 called legacy and it said cant delete, bu then I went to my gallery and it was all gone :crying::crying::crying:
I know windows recovery programs wont work because of the MTP deal, but has anyone found a solution? I know there was some type of ADB dump method but i am not too sure about like a timeline as to how long after I can do it, post delete of the images. I am so sad to see everything gone, and know i need to back stuff up but I mean I was wondering if I could just somehow recover at least pictures from the past few days.
thanks guys
Any input at all?

You may follow this guide for how to recover deleted files from samsung galaxy S3 mobile phone:
Samsung phone file recovery
the guide is easy to follow and works well for me. hope that it helps you too.
Hi,
I have an MTK6582 quad core phone.
In another forum, I have taken an advice from a poster, which later proved to be the worst thing I could do..
I have deleted two files from \system\etc folder, namely:
agold_cheat_evaluating_software.xml and
changeram.xml
Due to these two files fake system info was reported (there was another advice to edit these files, but I was too lazy, and the poster told that he had been deleted them, and then the system could boot thereafter with the correct system info. I believed it..)
Anyway, I have deleted them, and since then I cannot start my phone, it stops at welcome screen.
I could log into Android recovery mode, I have made a factory reset, but the problem still persists, and I'm going mad. How could I be so idiot...
Does anyone have any idea how to start my phone? "Fortunately" I have these two files on my computer, I saved them before deletion. Maybe it helps..
Thank you in advance.
BTW it's an M-pai 809t
reinstall the stock ROM of your phone!!
Ok, I admit up front I am an idiot and don't know what I am doing!
So I deleted that file, and even though I have it backed up, TB just hangs every time I want to restore it. If someone has a file I can download, and can give me clear directions as to how to reinstall it, I would be eternally grateful, as I realize after some reading of threads, etc, that that file actually controls ALL calendars. It's obviously a system file. I have Root Explorer, and I'm not sure how to even use that program. Please ask any questions I haven't answered here, and hopefully some kind soul can walk me through this. The package name is com.android.providers.calendar. My current phone/ROM is SGH-T769, Android 4.0.4
Thanks in advance,

Good luck!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! It's fixed!!!!! I had to go the Odin route, but it worked, and my calendar is back, YAYY!!

1. My apologies if this thread is in the wrong forum.
2.Not sure if my thread title is OK.
3. Am I allowed to post my link?
4.This site looks different and I can not seem find my answer.
Hi everyone, long time viewer first time poster in need of help. I recently deleted my system apk due to bad judgment, please don't judge. I can no longer access my system settings and with that the package installer no longer works. My tablet has been rooted, for a bit. I used the (kingo root) successfully.I do not have back up, I did find and download the apk sys files from a upper mod and now I need to enable via command to change the setting to allow installation of unknown sources .I do not know how to do that,. I am guessing that maybe that will FIX IT (crossing fingers). Any of the more experienced users know how to assist? I would love to have the stock rom, can't find it. Maybe there is a different method to do a complete restore that has all the files. My apologies if this is redundant request.
oh, I have already tried the hard factory reset and the system setting is still missing. I can't return, No warranty
Thanks in advance, and I can now stop the ugly crying.
I have the QMV7B ELLIPSIS7 4..2.2 rooted via KingoRoot.
thanks to (?) can't find your name.f for the link for system files I have.
I have a qr code on my photo albuma and my profile pic for the qmv7b system APK.
