[Q] Help please with .apk - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I'm having trouble finding out how to install a theme to my newly rooted and 2.3 ROM'd phone, I don't understand what 7zip is, and/or where to place the .apk file in order to install it.
Help me out??

The easiest way to install themes will be by using some launchers like adw launcher.. Both the launcher and the themes are available in the market..

Cool, how about live wallpapers?

the same question .....

ya.. its the same.. u can get live wallpaper from the android market..

No, that's not what I mean, sorry my bad. I didn't properly explain. If I download a (.apk) that is NOT on market, but here on XDA, how do I put it on my phone as a live wallpaper?

I figured it out, I just needed to put the .apk file on my SD card and open it with ES File Explorer or any other file management app would have done, I'm sure... then make sure I was able to install apps from unknown sources and it worked. Now Running 2.3 iceandfire with droid2 theme, rooted and overclocked!! It's stupid how much faster it got.

wow.. cool

[Q] Change Phone.apk?

Is there a way to extract the Phone Dialer and/or Contact apk from one ROM and replace it another ROM?
I am running MotoDroid1 with Ultimate Droid 2.0, but hate hate hate the phone dialer. I like the dialer from Liquid FroYo.
Can this be done with NinjaMorph? Or do I just move from update.zip to another? Any suggestions?
Forgive me if this has been asked, I couldn't find it in the search.
Thanks.
You could use root explorer, go to system/apps to extract the app.apk files. However, I have no idea if they'll be able to be installed on another rom.

A default theme is what it would look like after a fresh install

the default theme, if i'm not wrong, is the android stock theme. which is the one, in my opinion, every rom should include as default, or at least, as an option (cm 6.1.3 from wolfbreak is awesome, but i don't like the theme)
i think you can get it reflashing the rom

Why don't you just extract the framework from beta 4 and use it on wolfs cm6.1.3
Or install beta 4 and add Cm settings, then add apps etc from wolfs rom?
Just a thought

Thanks for the reply guys. Maybe I should have been more specific. I'm currently using Z's freeX10 beta 4 and the thing is I don't want to reflash every thing or else I'd need to customize everything back to the way it is. Too time consuming haha. Basically I want it because when I installed another theme before, some aspects of the theme remained on my phone even though I installed another theme. I'm not sure how to get rid of them, so I was hoping the default theme would get rid of them. I'll attach pictures to this post in a few minutes to show you what I mean. And yeah, I did try to extract the framework from the beta 4 but i failed miserably, It didn't let me install it through recovery
EDIT: attached pictures from phone. basically I really hate that youtube icon and I wanna get rid of it and revert it back to the normal one.
You wont be able to install framework through xrecovery, you would have to swap it using root explorer and change permissions, reboot then it should be fine
But make sure you copy the framework that was on before just in case anything happens, and/or backup using xrecovery for safety

Xperia play live wallpapers

I found the apk's for the Xperia play psp live wallpapers, and I'm running 2.3.3, but the wallpapers don't work. They install fine, but never load. I was just wondering if anyone has gotten them to work?

Try changing the Device info on build.prop to see if it is looking for a specific model!

two things, 1. Where is that located? 2. Will editing it cause any issues for me?
the files you shall need have been attached here...
Move them using root explorer,to the folders in your phone in same way as the are in the zip, set permissions to 777 for all files....hv fun...

If this does not install for you (it probably will not) go to "system/app" and delete the music apk. (you need to be rooted) Then reboot and it should install fine.
I was able to install the app (by placing it in the system folder) with no trouble at all but I was wondering if it was recommended to rename/delete the stock music player app or will these two applications not conflict?
Can you just add a .bak extension on the stock apk instead of deleting it?

Install LiveWallpaperPicker from Tweaktools.
Can u give me a link? I have tweaktools as a bookmark on my computer but I'm on my phone atm.

From your phone, run terminal emulator, then run su, then tweaktools. From there, look through the applications option.

Or rip the apk from another ROM zip (like stock or Eclipse) from /system/app and place it into your /system/app.
