Remote Desktop via direct Wifi

Is there a program or way i can use remote desktop without having a router connect to my laptop. So using the built in wifi on the laptop to connect to my HD2.
Or even bluetooth..
Just an idea as I can't have a router here at uni.

are you trying to basically surf the web from your laptop using your HD2?
you need something like internet sharing which is available on the Device itself (its a standard Windows thing). you need to set it up though, and of course make sure your device has internet access (GPRS/whatever connection methods).

Nah not using the internet, but to view and control my pc from my phone over wifi.

but anyway...dont think it is possible like that as the wireless on the laptop will not act as a DHCP (like a router does) to give an IP to clients who are connecting to it.

It would be cool though to be able to use it as a remote control to perhaps skip or play music etc. But connecting through wifi would be impossible i think.
I recall with my old old old sony ericsson phone I could connect to my computer using a bluetooth dongle and control music and even the mouse cursor...such an awesome feature. A bluetooth program for the HD2 would be good providing you have a bluetooth dongle.

funny you should mention an app like that as I developed an app a few years ago which does just that called WMP Remote.
basically, you connect it via bluetooth or wireless (as long as you get an activesync connection going, or even wireless with a router) and then get a list of files from a certain directly, play/pause/vol up/down from the Mobile application and play files in full screen and so on....
haven't updated it in a LONG time but was a big hit back then.
also developed another app called DAR~ling, which is a Digital Audio Recorder

It looks an awesome App, but does not work with WM6.5 & Windows 7 (not sure which one cause the issue).
IMHO worth some re-development and putting on Windows Market Place $$$ I'd buy.

not sure why it doesnt run on your devices? I ran it on my Samsung omnia which runs WM 6.1 - works fine.
I've also got a WM5 device...works fine on that. the issues are just the screen display!

Very nice program. I use it to do anything to my computer because I'm too lazy to get down of the bed. I use it when it was beta and the only bad thing was that he only had color mode for free
Anyway if you can manage to create a wireless network connection (AD-HOC) with designeted IP's it's going to work. I don't know about the port dough.
Anyway, I have windows XP, and I don't know very much about win7's configuration.

Anyone using Citrix Receiver on their TF300 to connect to their work computers? Wondering how well it works (is there left mouse button support yet?)

i've used teamview and that works just fine. i also utilized splashtop at home with windows 7 and that worked well aswell. however, splashtop at work did not work...but that could be because we have some firewall issues? or perhaps it is because we run windows xp?

I've got to use Citrix. Our environment is tightly controlled and security is paramount. Citrix works fine on my HTC Flyer, but I'd like to get some feedback from the TF300 owners, since I'm seriously considering picking one up.

OK, so yesterday I got my TF300. Installed Citrix Receiver on this thing and everything is working peachy king. The only issue is that the right mouse button seems to be mapped to an "exit" function, as whenever I click it I get a "Do you really want to leave Citrix?" popup. Hopefully that can be fixed because having a functional right mouse button would be nice, as I need to run programs with alternate credentials from time to time. As it stands my workaround is to launch a command window and use the "runas" command. Works, but kinda clunky.
Still, it's fantastic that I can get my work done on the Transformer when I'm away from the office, and really makes this device a suitable laptop replacement for me.

I use the default thing included in Asus Mycloud. It's actually just Splashtop, just with Asus' branding. Works great so far, but haven't tried connecting from outside my NAT yet.
I'll check out a Citrix client when I'm able.

Changed the setting to "context menu" but that still diesn't work.
However, I'd forgotten that in Citrix, a long button press acts as the left mouse button in windows. So that works. And even better, the long-press + shift key works with the transformer, meaning that I can run programs under alternate credentials, no problem.

First time poster here so bear with me.
I received my TF300 2 weeks ago and am very happy with it.
Not rooted yet or anything but I may be doing that later on.
For our company we use Citrix as well and I wanted to use the Citrix Receiver but I'm not able to connect.
I'm almost 100% sure it has something to do with the tcp window scaling as my Linux laptop also has problems opening the Citrix Access Gateway site (very slow) and by disabling the scaling it works perfectly.
The same happens with Vista en 7 PC's, tcp autotuning disabled and it works without problems.
I was looking for an option on the tablet but it's probably somewhere in the build.prop or something (I'm only familair with these build.prop things for 2 days, but am experienced with Linux so I can find my way around these things).
Does someone has this issue as well and do I have to root the tablet just to adjust the the tcp scaling?

Wish I could help you, but that would be our Remote Access team's area of expertise. Maybe you could speak to whoever at your place of business is responsible for that? I do know that our team tests the gateway with Android and iOS in addition to Windows, and they've got instructions for Adroid and iOS users to connect.

How are you all connecting to the internet for your citrix uses, wifi or 3g/4g?
I have a transformer prime that is so close to being ideal for work, except that tethering to my sprint epic 4g touch just doesn't cut it for citrix. It will work fine for a while, then sort of fall apart when it complains of a "temporarily slow" internet connection. 99% sure this is a sprint issue, with a dash of samsung radio issues thrown in.
Considering a mobile hotspot, but also considering the fact that this idea just isn't ready for prime time yet.

i use wyse pocket cloud to connect over remote desktop gateway. works great.

I've used Citrix while tethered to my HTC Evo 4G no problem. But I had a reasonably strong WiMAX signal. I don't think I'd even bother trying over Sprint's 3G. I'm just not that masochistic.

Not sure why you would ask how it works rather then try it.
But I can tell you it works very well. Our environment is still on xenapp 5 and I dont have it configured through a cag, but still use the web interface. I published RDP for our users so they can remote into their desktops or another terminal server and they use it. Anyway, if anyone doesn't know their corporate config and have trouble getting it to work, try changing it over to web interface rather then access gateway.

Dont bother?? haha To each their own I guess. Citrix is great over low bandwidth because you only send screen scrapes to the device vs something like vpn where you tunnel everything. I tether my tf300 through my verizon 3g with moderate signal. No issues this way. Good luck though.

[Q] PC Mouse Control Via Bluetooth

Hey everyone! Back home, I use Touchpad from Nullar (works fantastically) to control my PC and media players when I'm in bed or on my couch. However, I am now at school, and I cannot use WiFi in my room; I can't use Touchpad anymore. Has anyone attempted PC HID control via bluetooth or USB? I tried searching with several different keywords, but I was unsuccessful.

I don't think anybody has managed direct control over the USB connection yet, although we can manipulate it into a few known and pre-installed states (HID not being one of them, sorry). Bluetooth may be possible; we do have at least some access to the BT stack, although since it doesn't support HID natively either it would be quite a hack to get that working.
Are you disallowed WiFi for some reason, or do you just not have a WiFi network set up (and wow, are there really schools that still don't have WiFi in the dorms??)? A WiFi router is pretty cheap these days. Alternatively, it's possible to configure a PC's WiFi adapter to act like a WiFi access point, allowing the phoen to connect to it. I don't know for sure if Touchpad would work over that, but probably.
In theory, Touchpad should be possible over the Internet, though you'd need to open the firewall ports (whcih, depending on your school's network, might not be possible). Ot would lag, too.

Touchpad over WiFi/internet already works. We do have WiFi in the dorms, but the routers are in the lounges (no signal in my room). The rooms have ethernet ports, which is what I use, however we aren't allowed to use a router/hotspot in our rooms because of throttling issues.

Making your PC use the built-in WiFi interface as an access point is probably your best bet. Obviously, lock the network down so it's not going to have other people connecting and getting you in trouble. Do a little searching and you should find the software that does this (there are a few different ones). It was actually supposed to be a Win7 feature, but at the end it shipped half-finished. A few other developers finished it up for Microsoft.

I tried doing this with my friend's laptop (I'll buy a dongle if this works), however my phone (SparkW) doesn't see the network, and when I type in the name manually it doesn't connect. The network was visible to another laptop though.

Did you make it appear as an access point ("Infrastructure" network), or merely cause the PC to create its own peer-to-peer ("ad-hoc") network? WP7 doesn't support that latter kind, but will happily connect to the former. Also, what software did you use? If it was anything that came with Windows, or with any Windows PC, it was almost certainly ad-hoc.

It was ad-hoc with the built in services. I'll try out connectify this weekend and post my results here.

WiFi Direct Android device (Note 10.1) + Windows 7 computer.

I was searching for a quite long time, but I haven't found any satisfying answer. I want to send files between any device with WiFi Direct and computer. What I'm expecting?
For example - if I have two Note 10.1 - I can send / receive files without any wireless network - just between those devices.
I want to be able to send files between tablet and computer without using any network, any router. I don't want those devices to be connected into the same network. I want to send those files directly from device to device.
If I will need special WiFi card - please give me some hint.
If my expectation haven't been clearly explained - I will try once more.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but you should check out 'WiFi File Explorer' in the Play Store. It sets up an IP address that you can access with any browser (Windows 7 computer or another tablet) and access your files. I do believe you have to have root, but I've used it with my GSIII and my computer and it works great for transfering files, managing files and deleting or renaming files/folders. fwiw
NVM, I just tried this with my note and you do have to be on a wireless network for this to work, sorry, not what you were looking for I guess.

WIDI has not been properly implemented yet in both android and hardware yet, some devices are certified but some are on older versions and there is no software out there yet to take advantage of it. (that I am aware of ).
Samsung have partially implemented it using allshare and allshare cast, neither will do what you want. I dont think this will be working properly until the Galaxy S4 or even 5.

It's not exactly what I meant. I would like to know, if is there any possibility using WiFi Direct connect android device (with WiFi Direct Support) and Windows PC. If it's possible - what are the requirements?

i'm confused now, why would you want widi on a pc, surely you are always going to have a router to connect to and thus defeating the object.

Let's try imagine something. I have WiFi / Router in my house. But, not everywhere I have an access to WiFi network, and maybe someone don't want to give me an access to network, or I don't need this as it's not really necessary. Sometimes I could meet someone with computer and I would like to send something faster than via Bluetooth, faster than removing memory card and trying to put into someone's computer. Will you notice how complicated it could be?
Now I have decided to buy device with WiFi Direct and I would like to use it with different devices. I don't want to use WiFi / Wireless netowrks / using router, because I could do this years ago.

If you want to send files from device (a) to Device (b), either both need to be WIDI compatible or both need to be connected to the same wifi network, I cant see your problem really, this isn't rocket science mate.

It suppose to be simple. Not same WiFi network, just WiFi Direct compatibility. Question is, what to do, what to use, to make computer with Windows 7 make compatible with WiFi Direct.

From what you described it's exactly what you said, using wifip2p to transfer files between 2 adhoc devices.
The libraries do just that on the android side of things,
If you want something else then I'm sorry but you need to be a bit clearer.

Hi I actually struggle to explore Wifi direct between my note 10.1 (JB), to an Asus laptop.
I installed the Intel Mywifi dashboard 15.1.1s64 (a version accepted by the latest Intel wifi driver Wireless_15.1.1_s64).
It can install it only if our chipset accept it : intel centrino range.
have a look over the downloadcenter.intel.com
As for me, I can "see" my devices, and I can use my laptop as a hotspot (fine !) just as connecitfy does, but Sharing files is impossible.
I should have an icon ...but nothing !
I have changed my firewall settings, but NO way.
It seems it's a problem of security settings, for sometimes it has displayed a kind of message : 'sharing impossible, ...'.
If anyone has a clue !

it sounds to me like you are trying to create a network using widi, I don't think this is actually possible yet. I was under the impression you could only push files from one device to another, i.e there will be an option when you click send to send via WIDI in the same way you would by bluetooth.

Actually, In fact, I found that to work proprelly, the intel myWifi needs to be created as local network, with special features, security and many things to do. I just begun to explore this morning...but it's not just a 'plug and play' widget ! not as easy as Android does the Ad-hoc would do !
I'll try latter, let people know if I can manage it.

you need to instal itnels wifi managemen sw + wifi dashboard. if not you wont be able to use wifi direct.
it is working as adhoc really nice but I was not able to send wifi direct any files even it did connect properrly. looks like kind of bug

Wifi Direct != WiDi
It's driving me nuts with all the talk of WiDi on here...Wifi Direct is completely different than WiDi. WiDi is Wireless Display. (just search for WIDI, and read up on it please)
I only found this forum because I was actually looking for how to connect my computer and phone using the WiFi Direct function on my phone. It seems like it should just be as easy as making the two devices see each other. I have the Note 2, and a Win7/64 laptop. They are both running on my 5Ghz network, which from my understanding shouldn't matter since they should be setting up an ad-hoc network between the two.
So far I've tried to create an ad-hoc network on my computer, but my phone won't see it. I've tried just scanning from the Note by just opening the wifi direct app and letting it search and by trying to find the new AD-Hoc connection on my PC. I've tried finding my phone on my network with my PC, but it won't connect the two. Just show me there are devices there on the network. I really wish Samsung would jump out in front of this one and give some more directions on how to use this feature they are pushing.

Airdroid works great! I was having the same problem as the OP until I saw this. Airdroid lets you upload and download from the phone just by setting up a wifi hotspot on the phone. No need for a router or internet.

I think I know what you mean.
WiFi direct will give you a different ip address separate from ur normal WiFi router. Try setting up your Windows pc WiFi to the same ip range and subnet....you can find the ip address by long clicking on the WiFi connection in settings while its connected to the other device, or use an app called fring, and scan the connected network for the ip addy.
My Samsung tv calls WiFi direct SML (samsung media link)
The link password protected using wps.
Wps is hackable I belive, so in theory u should be able to get the WiFi direct password...
My Samsung tv wifidirect/SML calls its signal sec link xxxx, I can connect to this with my GN..but cant do anything else.
My thoughts are Samsung are purposly restricting the full potentional of this untill a later date,....every thing Seems to be there for it to work, but they are not ready to free it up.
They make money so far from you buying add on devices like allcast dongle. Which should not be needed as you have wifidirect/SML.
No doubt this will be a great selling point on the new Samsung ranges

Yes it connects.. but impossible to send files fromboth sides.
As my nexus4 to GT Note...nothing. It connects sometimes, but any apk I tried did worked ! Wifi direct. I tried 6 .apk, and only WIFI SHOOT worked..; But it s cheating, for it uses the same local network. SO it's not REAL Wifi Direct as intended.
And NFC beam that could be similar...uses Bluetooth ! not wifi direct..
Wi Fi direct is not mature . Only if you have Samsung phones / tablets !! absolutely prefect and fast. Good job Samsung..

[Q] wireless mobile hotspot hacking for android devices help.

Hi my name is jacob and I am a new on XDA and i have started a new thread because I have been all over the internet looking for a solution to this problem and none of them work. After i waved through all of the b******* i decided to come and see if any of you veterans can solve my problem.
i have been messing around with root and custom roms here recently maybe for a month and so far its great breathed new life into my old phone. Although I am having trouble with hacking my mobile phones hot spot (phone specifications and model listed below) i have tried everything wifi tether by TreVe, (hope I'm typing that right) changing tethering.dun in global settings database, (worked great until T-mobile eventually found me out) and everything else related to that. I am looking for a hack into my hot spot where T-mobile wont know s*** and it will work indefinitely. Reason why is I need internet for school and work purposes at home but, I live with my father and hes is on parole and can not have internet service at his home. I am a beginner but do have a little bit of sense in what I am doing if someone would kindly walk me through steps on how to completely unlock and hide my hot spot usage from T-mobile it would be greatly appreciated.
Also new thread for hacking native hot spot methods on any rooted android device.

It won't be wireless, but PdaNet+ and USB tethering works just fine with a computer as long as you select the "hide tether usage" option. The program on the computer side also has a feature that turns your computer's wi-fi into a wi-fi router, which'll allow you to connect other devices.

yes i have tried PDAnet and that does not work for my needs as i also play the occasional online game with my PS4 I forgot to mention that sorry. I have tried to send out a wifi signal from my computer through CMD on my computer and none of my devices pick it up even though CMD says the signal is going out also done this with ADhoc networks with a LAN cable but did not work either. May it possibly hide my online gaming if I figure out a way to get reverse WiFi on my computer working will it still hide that or will it be detectable. I see my self as a somewhat computer buff but I put myself to shame when i cant get a reverse WiFi connection going from my computer. seems like a lot of trouble to go to for internet i wish there was a way to unlock native tethering and not jump through hoops. It would seem that it would be a simple fix and should also be free anyway since it is dealt with the phone's hardware not through the carrier american cell network providers are greedy that is like getting xfinity internet but before you can send internet to your devices you have to pay thirty dollars extra.

When you USB tether your phone to your computer with PdaNet+, all you have to do is select the "WiFi Share" option and set it up like any other hotspot (network name, password, etc). Couldn't be easier. I don't know how well this'll work for playing PS4 (or whatever) games, but I can use this setup to watch Netflix or youtube on my well enough.
There are ways to use the native hotspot on an Android phone, but all the "hacks" are done on the computer side. VPNs, browser masking, etc.

i will try this method browser masking right now unfortunately don't have the money to buy a VPN maybe one of the ad supported free versions will suffice will report back tomorrow.

Method not working i still get the T-mobile up sell page through VPN's of all kind it masks the internet going through the computer but not the phone where the service originates. They still detect everything I am doing. I understand T-mobile has bots going through their lines that detects devices that are not mobile devices and shuts them down. If maybe there is a way to block T-mo completely from a mobile device and just sounds ridiculous but I know someone out there can find a way I have heard of peoples mobile data usage and their mobile hot spot gauge has not moved only mobile data was detected. I am not sure if this was false statements and was made up.

Hi Jacob, I got my Note 3's native personal wifi hotspot connected to my ps4 with around 18Mbps Download and 6Mbps Upload, I adjusted the APN settings on my phone and managed to get around the data restriction.
I can post the exact settings I changed if you think it might work for you?
