Wifi Xoom always FC after 2 days of usage - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

would any1 know why my wifi xoom always FC. I just got it like a week and the 2nd day my wifi xoom always FC when going to internet, sometime when taking pic or video, or play free games. I did not unlock or unroot the device. I check the system info and everything are up-to-date.
Thanks

this is going to happen until Google sends out update. Sorry you don't have a bad device just everyone has an incomplete device. Just some work better than others. Best bet is to wait til updates roll out for honeycomb.

thanks for the fast reply. I thought my device went bad. Sometime even my wifi xoom internet load very very slow in loading page and sometime it's fast. I know it's not my internet cuz i have fiso. lastnite, my iphone4 can play stream movie and my wifi xoom can't even load that same site. it kept saying "loading". This morning i tested my xoom again and it load find. would you know when the new update?
This is my first xoom and i felt like i want to exchg for ipad2 already.

well right now no dev has a time limit. We are all hoping soon but it isn't for sure yet. I mean I'm Finns keep my xoom til the update but its a personal preference. Most people have returned it but I wouldn't because it is still a solid device. I would wait and give Google some time. Once the so gets out then it will be sloop much better than the I pad. We just need we've to start dev apps so we can get the market up to speed withapple.

i did a system restore after work and so far no FC yet. also did a bluetooth pair b/t iphone4 and wifi xoom for tether and speed is good. i'm using mywi. not sure if i will unlock/root my xoom since u can't restore to system default. one thing i had problem was the volume. sometime the volume is so low eventho i already adjusted to max. and if it's loud, and when i adjust to half way, it's very low. if i pass the half way vol bar, it's like silent.
Is there a way (while stream movie is playing) to touch screen and the vol bar appear like iphone4 or ipad? i had to use the button to adjust the vol.

Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus running HOT - anyone else?

Love this tablet but this last few days it has started to get really warm on occasion.
On the left side, about an inch in from the SD card slot, the temperature really builds up quickly starting first on the back of the device and eventually getting so hot on the glass it becomes uncomfortable to hold and to swipe. I've seen 48 degrees!
I have noticed this happening when using Dolphin HD browser and particularly if Skype is running in the background.
I wiped the tab, didn't reinstall from market and just loaded Dolphin and it didn't make any difference.
I'm guessing faulty device since there are only a few isolated reports of this online.

Really strange, Phil. Based on your recommendation in "other" forums I turned in my Nook Tab and got a GTab7Plus and I'm just lovin it. Does everything I'd hoped it would do and more I haven't even figured out. So far, (knock on wood) I haven't gotten the Screen of Death nor has the unit gotten hot for any reason and I'm using dolphin browser exclusively. So......you may have a defective unit. Good luck.
Yeah, I think it was faulty. I took it back to Best Buy and they had not had any other returns for this issue.
Unfortunately they are also out of stock so I don't currently have a tablet at all! Seeing what is coming down the pike in the way of tablets I might just wait and see what transpires in the next 3 months. If I get antsy then I'll just pick up another GT7+ (or back to a Nook Tablet if the CM9 project advances quickly).
Also, do you see a color cast on yours at all? I noticed that when there was a white background, for instance reading a book on Kindle or Nook apps, the right lower side of the page had a warm tinge - pink/peach colored. It was quite irritating.
Having issues with Nook app opening my Nook ebooks.

I have received my 7+ and downloaded and installed the Nook and Kindle apps without a hitch. The Kindle books are fine but I seem to be having a problem opening my Nook books. Darn, I am in the midst of a great book and hate reading on my phone.
Any tips on how best to install and manage my Nook ebooks? And, I have a 32gb sd card which I haven't installed but plan to tonight. Will that make a difference? Should I "format" the card before installing on the 7+? How does that work?
Thanks a bunch!
I noticed on the nook software that I needed to open the software and then reopen it before the book would load. Second time is a charm I guess.

Mine as well, in the same location as you specified too. Gets damn hot in that location with I'm using it in the car for navigating with Google Maps and it's plugged into the charger. Also in the same scenario the charge level is still going down and not up
I' ve been using VTL Launcher and had some previous issues with my home wifi (couldn't reconnect so my tab was always trying to find it again and again). After resetting router and mainly uninstalling VTL Launcher my tab stopped to be hot and battery life increased rapidly. So I was almost decided tonreturn it due to this problems but since then everything is finally ok and start to enjoy this tab (previously had GT7 original and Note).
Regarding navigation with google maps- consider that there is also huge use of data amount so warmness is probable. I'm using Sygis Aura and has no problems with hottness and also not original car charger has enough power to charge on the roads.
So far haven't noticed the tab getting hot. Just trying to figure out how to use Kies. What a friggin nightmare! Why have they not simplified the Kies interface? It is so convoluted!

Interesting - but mine was totally stock. Yeah, I had added a ton of apps but it was running regular TouchWizz. My little Nook Color running CM7 has exactly the same apps and doesn't even get warm.
what are you using kies for? my computer (win 7) didn't recognize my tab until
i installed kies, it also installed drivers so i can now transfer files
To FloridaPhil: And how long is your battery life? Is wifi ok? Well I' ve noticed then, that our tab doesn't have still very apropriate task managing and this can be causeb exactly by this. Take a look in settings, applications and battery use...I couldn't believa my eyes but even I'm using good task manager with automatic shutndowns of slected apps, there are still huge amount of running apps that drain battery and may cause getting hot. Next thing as well was a fact, that even when wifi connection held perfectly, there was still word 'searching' each couple of seconds (take a look in wifinsettings...)- so next possible reason for getting warm...

It's only searching because your at the wifi settings screen. If you are at the screen where different wifi networks can be selected, android (logically) thinks you might want to select a different network, so scans. If you STAY on that screen, it assumes you want to keep scanning (why else would you stay on that screen?)
This is something that all wifi enabled android devices do. It's NOT scanning every few seconds if you aren't on that specific settings screen...
Gary
Thanks Gary for reasonable explanation, yes this is logical. I was just confused from this, cause not Galaxy Note, nor previous Tab or Streak was behaving like this. But is true that this is my first honeycomb machine and I may not realise this before or it had been different in settings.

My Galaxy SII (gingerbread, AT&T, SGH-I777) does this as well. Even my iPhone does it.
I'm using Kies Air to wirelessly transfer and synch my contacts, calendar, etc....... Experimented and have transferred photos and some other files. Also worked using the USB cable and my Windows 7 recognized and installed drivers. It recognized the SD card as my E drive.
Regarding the heating up issue, so far I have not experienced this. The battery use is under control when I turn off all wireless when I leave my home.
Getting used to the Touchwiz interface but I also installed Go Launcher EX and use that sometimes.
Video playback is awesome on this little tab; last night I was watching movie trailers and was surprised with the sound as well. The Nook's sound was always a bit weak.
I installed an anti-glare screen film and it is awesome for reading. Doesn't detract from the beautiful display and the fonts are crisp.
Regarding opening my Nook books I realized that it worked as soon as I installed my SD card and I downloaded my books so I wouldn't have to deal with having a wireless connection to read my books.
Playing around with the wallpapers and customizing the Samsung screens and installed a super cool "steam punk skull" live wallpaper and it is amazing! Found it free via the Amazon app store....it is fantastic! I also found other beautiful live wallpapers via the Amazon app store including snow scenes.
The tab connected flawlessly to my Samsung Galaxy 4G T-Mobile phone's access point and used that to stream Pandora and download some Kindle books. It was done in my office which doesn't have the best T-Mobile network access and it was surprisingly fast and smooth. No stuttering of the music and emails and Facebook worked great.
I ordered the 6' long usb cable for the tab via Amazon and it has shipped; hopefully it is well matched and charges up the tab just as well as the stock 3' shortie cable. I noted other comments regarding the slow charging of the tab and found that turning off the wifi or simply shutting it down speeds up the charging dramatically.
So that is my report so far and let me say I am enjoying the 7+ tab immensely.

Well i guess thats pretty normal, mine goes up to 42C sometimes.. I guess it depends on your surrounding and climate.
You sure it's a normal thing (this temperature range)? I'm here in Thailand so the ambient temperature is hot to begin with, but the thing is; with prolonged used my hands get uncomfortable.

[Q] Anyone else with these issues?

I've had an iPhone for the past 5 years.
I decided to take the plunge & buy an android yesterday.
I purchased the AT&T HTC One XL.
This is my experience so far:
1) Audio -- while listening to music, opening another app sometimes either crashes the player or momentarily fragments the sound.
2) Connectivity (in NYC using the 4G LTE network) -- very patchy. Seems to go in and out, even though I've never had these issues in the same area on the 3G network. Don't know if this is a network issue, or just a phone connectivity issue overall. Pandora constantly goes 'in and out'.
3) Seems like there is no caching (anywhere):
a) Opening a web site, briefly checking my mail, and then switching back to the website, makes the website reload.
b) Conversely, opening, e..g, my mail, going to the web browser, and then going back to my mail, makes my mail reload.
For a phone with 1GB of RAM, I don't anticipate this issue -- my iPhone 4 with half the ram was able to keep many more apps and browser tabs in memory for extended periods of time.
Is anyone else experiencing these issues?
Do I have a faulty phone?
Are any of these 'issues' just the way the android OS works? (like said, i've never used android before, so i have no clue.!)
Will a future software update fix them?
I'm very much contemplating returning this device and reviving my iphone 4;
but I don't want to if i don't have to -- android allows everyone I wish the iphone would.
Thanks you.
I haven't had any of the issues you are mentioning. I used my music player for an hour while mowing the grass tonight. As far as the 4G LTE goes, I can't comment on that since I don't have it where I live.
When your music was messing up, where you using the music app or google music player? I would try the other just to see if that issue is with both.
Other than that, I would swap the phone out as you may have just got a bad one.
I take it you have the ATT ONe X?
I just got my ATT One X today, so I haven't fully put it through the tests, but I did have an Unlocked Euro One X about a month ago that had quite a few bugs. One was the sound issue you mentioned. When I played music thru any music player the sound broke up when you hit a hardwear button or sometimes just on its own.

Got mine yesterday and having only the issue with wifi signal and 4g signal showing. Lte is lightning fast where I am. I've been able to listen to music through my car speakers, take phone calls and text at the same time.
No eta and she shuddered a lot like she wanted to say an eta but the manager that was also talking stopped her I think lol. And it does work fine in the car it's when your using the built in speaker and doing other stuff . It's an intermittent issue
I am having issue number 3. My original iphone multitasked better than my one x is right now. Web pages always reload when I go back to them no matter the browser. Heck almost every app reloads.
Here's the number I called fyi

Yes #2 is a HUGE issue for me. To the point (as expressed in another thread) that I'm ready to return it altogether and just keep my Sprint contract alive afterall for their EVO 4G LTE...Despite the fact I won't have 4G, at least I know their network is up consistently and is reliable!
I talked to a nice lady on the phone just now and she said this was the first time she had a call from a subscriber with a One X...So she hasn't heard anything. Just not enough data and time. She looked at some notes and AT&T does have the WiFi issue flagged in their system. I told her yes I was experiencing that one too. It's an issue when coming out of WiFi your data doesn't connect.
She had me turn off my phone, she disconnected me from their network and then I came back on it. After I explained to her with the WiFi issue, I worked around it by turning all off and then airplane mode, she said, yes airplane mode does the same thing and will essentially reset your connection to their network. You may be assigned a different tower, IP, etc.
So you can try that. Turn everything all off. Then turn airplane mode on. Then off and then the mobile network back on. You'll see a notice saying "preparing SIM card" ...
However, despite all that. I still have constant connectivity issues. The phone will not stay connected for long periods of time. It is always bouncing between LTE, HSPA+ and simply not connected at all. There's a few apps that I go to update in the store and all their downloads fail because the phone will not stay connected long enough to download them.
WHEN the phone is connected, for those brief periods of time, the speeds are good. I've seen nearly 30Mbps download on LTE to a close test server and 5, 10, 23, etc. on test servers farther away. It's extremely fast. Unfortunately, the phone simply won't stay connected to their network rendering it just about useless for anything other than getting some e-mail messages as they are able to trickle in.
thanks
The connectivity issue is horrible on my phone. I don't even have any clue that it's gone bad until I try to send a text or make a call that refuses to go through. A reset used to fix my problem, but recently it became very very stubborn (many resets... thought I tried everything and was preparing to drive to the store) and then I tried the all radios off, airplane on, airplane off, mobile on and it finally fixed itself. very frustrating, but thanks for the tip. Not sure I'll be keeping this phone. My iPhone 3gs was overall far more reliable.

That's explains why you didn't experience the #1 issue, it's only when music player is on background you start/switch to another app.
I'm experiencing all the above, but after LG Nitro HD I'll take these issues ten fold without complains. This phone is awesome even these issues.
the caching one sucks!

I have #2 and #3.
I was going to give HTC till day 29 prior to returning it,, however, ive changed my mind. Taking back tomorrow morning. It frustrates me to no end for the following reasons in order of importance.
1. Battery Life- only 6-8 hours with maybe 1.5 hours screen time. Thought maybe I received a dud based upon the reports of others but,,,,
2. Multitasking- there is none. 3/4 of the memory is ate up with crap running which probably accounts for the lack of caching. Due to there being no multitasking, my old iphone, iphone 4s and lumia 900 wipe the floor with this unit. It actually reminds me of the old galaxy S in terms of performance.
3. messaging- no notification
4. email-Can only send one attachment at a time.
5. email, cant click links, must copy
6. email- when you move an email to a folder, you must do additional steps to get back to inbox
7. System- pretty much everything requires so many additional taps, it is counter intuitive
8. camera- not on par with iphone 4s or galaxy s2, however software is better. I really wonder if the compression settings are what is destroying the photos.
9. No Visual Voicemail- without downloading more crappy bloatware from ATT
I do love the screen, the Quadrant scores are outstanding but not indicative of the phones actual performance and usability. I was excited, now not so much at all. There are so many other things to list but numbers 1,2,3 pretty much negate the use of this phone. I also have the Lumia 900 and iphone 4S. And so far I am most impressed by the Lumia900. However, it's camera, well, stinks.
You're crazy bro. I just scanned 6 pages wirelessly from my WorkForce 545 with my HTC One and emailed them out directly...that was 6 attached files...
Battery is awesome, but you could drain it in a few hours depending on what you do...but the same goes for every other phone.
I mean, I'd seriously give the thing a factory reset and a good charge. Play with it some more... He'll, root it and use titanium backup to remove bloatware...
But eh up to you

[Q] Is your tf300 useless while downloading?

My tab seems to literally only want to do one thing at a time pretty much. For it being a quad core it seems a bit ridiculous for it to freeze up and start throwing the wait or close crap anytime an app or the market is downloading something. Another thing is with the dock, I've noticed it seems that the touch pad is really slow and laggy after waking the tab from sleep. It is fine again after a reboot but once it goes to sleep you wake it up and the problem is back, what's strange is its only slow while on the home screen inside apps it works as normal. Another thing with the dock is it appears that it stops charging the tab after the screen is turned off as in the light on the power button goes out but turns back on and continues to charge if you wake it back up. I do not have it unlocked but it is rooted and EZoverclock is installed running it at 1ghz,1.3ghz and 1.5ghz. Still has the stock rom .29. Also it was doing these things before root and OC. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing these symptoms. Thanks for reading.

I never had these problems... It may be the method you rooted it. Try sparkyroot.. I remeber my motorola defy was completely unusable after rooting with an app.
I find my Desire S better capable of downloading webpages in the background while browsing another than the TF300T does.
My TF300T is still unrooted.
I just believe that the quadcore is not put to good use (read: the software is not optimised for it). It feels almost like that hyperthreading hype from Intel many years ago. That design was a complete bust, but they only would admit that when the real multi core processors arrived.
I have the same problem. Just have to do one thing or it is laggy. Just shame for quade to be that slow! I also dont have root.
Same problem with my TF300T
When I am downloading something in the background and try opening another app or browse something, I end up with the Wait messages and my tab almost freezes. I was really surprised that a quad core tablet has such poor performance.
My Samsung Galaxy S2 does a better job of downloading stuff in the background.

Yeah my GS2 from att screams I love my phone. What's weird is I actually had the prime but had to return it due to too many defects but it never had any problems multitasking at all. You could have ten downloads running while playing a game without any lag it was a huge difference. I guess ASUS like many other companies have just not got the quality products they used too. Its to bad really. These tablets had a lot of potential. Maybe I should have gotten the Toshiba excite with the tegra instead its only $50 difference. Or perhaps this tab will get fixed in the future? Maybe we should bug the hell out of them until they fix it this is such BS to be misled like this. A quadcore should perform as such and be able to "MULTI" task with its "MULTI" Core CPU.

I did use the sparkyroot method and as my op says it has been like this since taken out of the box before it was rooted. I actually rooted it to remove some of the bloatware and OC it to see if it could perform better. My HP Touchpad with Cyanogen performed better than this paper weight.
The reason for the lag when downloading is because the tegra 3 only had single channel memory. This means all the apps being downloaded fill up the channel even though there are 4 cores. Its really a shame cuz the iPad has quad channel memory and most other chips have dual channel memory. Plus having more cores means more memory consumption.

What are your download speeds?
I connected my tab today to a 25mbs down/up wifi, and I opened MC3 to download the game content. I noticed that I would freeze the download from time to time, sometimes holding there for about 10 secs. I think the main problem here is the speed at which the tablet can write on disk, I have never had any problems with download freezes or lags before on my lousy 3mbs connection at home.
The files were downloading so fast that the tab didn't have time to correctly write them and had to pause the download. This is just a hypothesis, I didn't get the chance to try again. Anyone that has access to a high speed internet connection and a slow speed connection could try this and verify it. Maybe download a torrent and throttle down your down speed to see if you still get the same lags and freezes as you would on your normal speed.
Here's a picture of a cf bench I did on my tab you can see that the write speed is at 511, it seems slow ppl using the prime have reported 800+ speeds
Also check out this post and this other thread
EDIT:

I use to download youtube videos with Tubemate. When there were multiple downloads, my tab slowed down like anything. I just popped in a 32gb card and chaged the download folder to sd card. Now, with 5 downloads also, no problem with slowing down. The internal memory's RW speed seems to be less i think.

Reasons for me to not sell my TF700T?

It's as simple as that. I've been using my Nexus 4 smartphone ever since I received it on Feb. 1, and since then I have not turned on or even considered using my TF700T. Although this is just a minor annoyance, it's quite a hassle taking it out of my backpack on campus, waiting for it to boot up, and connect it to slow wifi, while I can just do whatever I want to do on my phone twice as fast and without any I/O lag. The only real thing I can do on the tablet that I can't on a phone is type up notes.
I really love this tablet and CleanROM has made my experience much better, but I always find myself going to the phone for everything I need. That being said, does anyone one here have any tablet-specific tasks I can perform on a tablet but not on a phone?
I have phases like this. New device love syndrome :cyclops: Bought a nexus 7 and didn't use the infinity for 2 weeks. Now I never use the nexus 7. Think I'll sell it. Screen estate is just a bit too small.
Bought a Microsoft surface rt. Only use it for work related tasks. It's a great idea but a terrible mobile device.
Phone screens are too small for sustained web browsing and productivity tasks IMO.
I always come back to the infinity. Great device. I'm sure you will fall in love with it again. Once the honeymoon is over.

I'm having quite the reverse: my SGS2 never went more than 24h without needing a charge, now it sits there for 5 days. I text with wit, I tether its data connection by Bluetooth to the 700, I check my train schedule if I run into changed platforms and such. The rest: Infinity.
I might replace it with another fullHD tablet, non-ASUS, but I have to do a bit more research as to what my options are. I will not sell this one, however, as I have several optees within my family.

Whenever I try that, my TF700 reboots immediately. Do you use any special trick, or is it just my old Motorola Defy that my TF700 doesn't like?

Oh, it's definitely picky! Sometimes neither device will connect to the other (although both are set to being visible to any device), and sometimes even rebooting doesn't fix it. It stays a bit hit or miss, but you could give Open Garden a whirl (NB: it sets up an unencrypted VPN, so you do not want to send over anything sensitive, like banking data or the like, when you are, say, aboard a train or bus, but in the safety of my rather quite neighborhood, I used it several times when the normal Bluetooth tethering crapped out on me again ). Funny thing is, if anything, your Defy should reboot and not the 700. Which ROM are you on?
I pair both devices beforehand, then go to the Wireless hotspot option in the Settings, and CleanROM provides the option to do bluetooth internet sharing. I think I'm far too stupid to think of tricks on how to do this when that does not work.

Defy: stock Android 2.1 (I don't want to mod my only phone)
TF700: CROMI 3.2
Devices are paired, "Internet tethering (via USB and BT)" is enabled on the phone.
When I connect the TF700 to the phone's "internet access" service, it says "connecting...", and after a few seconds I see the boot animation and Android restarts. Interestingly, not a kernel-level restart, I didn't see the bootloader logo. I remember reading about other reports of the same problem somewhere.
My workaround is to use WiFi tethering, which works fine. It just eats a lot of battery on the phone, but it's good enough for me.

Mmmh... Never had that happen to me. WiFi tethering is my go-to as well when Bluetooth craps out.

Hahaha I'm actually hoping that I'm going through a "honeymoon phase" too, I'm going to give it one more week to think it over! I do prefer the infinity for productivity, but what I mostly do is read over PDFs. I'm actually thinking of downgrading to a Nexus 7 for that :\

Ahh I see. I actually have the need to charge mine by the end of the day, but 'tis not a big deal because I'm home anyways. I do not yet have an unlimited data plan, but I plan to tether to a tablet once I do and hopefully that'll increase my tablet usage. Does tethering drain the phone's battery even more?

Tethering over Bluetooth for about 2 hours during my train commute to work drains the battery for an extra 3 to 12%, obviously depending on what you're doing with the data connection. I never download immensely large files over my data connection, butjudging from the battery consumption, I guess I could leave it tethered for about three days running time in total.

I am using PDaNet on both my Droid 4 (rooted, stock rom) and the TF700, now on CROMI 3.3 and I can tether the tablet through Bluetooth no problem. VPN is encrypted

Pulled my shield out of the drawer

This was honestly a fantastic piece of hardware when I bought it. A little about me is that I'm a pilot and I travel non-stop. I took a job that gave me an ipad so the shield went back into the closet. I've since switched jobs again and now I've pulled it out, dusted it off, and updated it with everything. It's so slow it's unusable. Literally can't use it.
There are basically only a few things I want the tablet for. There's no games. I just want to Netflix, watch downloaded shows for when I'm in foreign countries, and look at photos. I don't even use the internet much on it I just use my phone for that. Mostly just a movie/show thing. What should I do to get it back up to par?
Basically I have nothing that's important on it but don't want to throw it away. I still think it's a great device so long as it operates like it should. What can I do to make it functional again and able to play downloaded content, sling/youtubeTV and my spotify account? I'm not sure what's happened but right now even swiping from one screen to another is very laggy and slow. If I need to root or install something custom I'm willing to I just want to get this device up and running. It's the 2014 Tegra K1 variant.
Thank you guys!
Install the new 5.2 update, do a factory reset, and do not enable "Doze". Nvidia has disabled Doze by default on the latest update to eliminate the lag. It might slightly drain the battery though, but no more lag coming out of sleep.
Stay away from tha updates!!

5.2 update made the tablet noticeably faster/smoother for me. Battery life is the same as before the update, and no issues with the update whatsoever.
Experience with an update(s) will vary from one user to another, due to all the differences in how we use our devices.
