Where to go from here? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

So, after ignoring my G1 for 6 months, I finally decided to try and make use of it once more.
Currently I rooted it and have a JF 1.41 RC33 installed.
I have found that Titanium Backup does nothing but FC on it. I would really like to get this working (as I did buy the full license). A bunch of other apps do nothing but FC as well, not that they were critical but this is a minor annoyance.
Question, should I post the log of the FC or is there a known issue that requires me to upgrade?

Isn't r33 cupcake? If so it may need updated to work with new apps

You know, I really have no idea. Hell, even the link that I got it from (on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480) no longer works any more.
Been googling and can't really find any straight answer.
Maybe I don't even have the 'right RC33'. Under my kernel version it says:
2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0
[email protected]#1
Build Number
killa-user 1.1 PLAT-RC33 126986
ota-rel-keys, release-keys
The file I DL's was titled "JFv1.41_RC33.zip". JF's blog entries (http://jf.andblogs.net) start with v1.42.
Maybe this is what the media means by a fractured community? It always seems hard to get what seems to be, simple answers.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Things I need to know:
Which version of Android am I really running?
What is the next logical upgrade step?
Should I even upgrade to try to solve problems? (that went horribly wrong with I first tried going the CM rom route).
Edit: Seems that I do have 1.5 as when I looked under updates, there is 1.6 waiting to be DL'd. Don't really want to do that as it'll kill my root access. Would rather 'upgrade' to another JF updated ROM.

bump.
Anyone?
If noone can answer, how about a suggestion where I can get some answers?

I know, but I'm impatient. If this comes out before a rooted version does, then I will test it out first haha.
Need a download link, I don't think I can cope with the anticipation...
Looks like the rumors were true this time! Cupcake DID come out in late (reeeealllly late) April!
yep...it's now confirmed if you check that link again
Just keep holding your eyes closed pal. The rooted version came out a few days ago.

I'm using the dude's 1.5. I don't want to unroot just to get that update....mainly because I'm waiting for the JesusFreke version. But I do find that when I unroot back to RC29 I get an update pushed to my phone like clock work.(I don't apply the updates of course) I have rooted and unrooted several times and this has ALWAYS been the case. But the updates were 1.1. I am willing to bet this might work for 1.5. For those of you who are impatient its worth a try. You just need the rc29 firmware.....worst case scenario is you will end up with RC33(1.1) again. Oh and if you are a noob please do your homework before you try any of this. If you brick your phone its not my fault

Actually, I been using the official HTC released ADP 1.5 OTA for three days now and it's rooted too. I just want to see how Tmobile has theirs setup.
hopefully we can either get the nonADP cupcake OTA update, and JF can put his magtastic hax on it
Seriously, has everyone in this thread been under a rock? There is already 2 rooted versions of ADP1.5, and many of us have been running stable 1.5 Builds for a month now. Yes, that's right STABLE, not to mention looking better and having more features. I always see people saying how they will wait until the official release or until JF makes a stable release to try Cupcake. I've had Hayruko's 5.02Hr5 for over a week and haven't rebooted since I updated, and who do you think made the multitouch browser for Hayruko's version of the very ROM this thread is posted about? That's right, JesusFreke. Read the forums people!
If I unroot my G1 to give Android 1.5 a try, can I still downgrade my firmware to root my phone again? Just wondering if there is anything in Android 1.5 that prevents downgrading firmware.
TIA
...what everyone's saying is that they're waiting for the RC version. wow i dont know my terms anymore. but the US version of the firmware. NOT THE ADP. people aren't living under a rock. we're waiting for JF to come out with rooted US tmobile version instead of ADP because we dont want it.

Yes I think I will wait for JF version......No disrespect to the other chefs. So far I like the dudes version. And Haykuro is doing his thing. I have not tried his builds yet.
I'm not sure if I'm move from Haykuro's 5.0.2G build to the official, yet... To me, the 5.0.2G build is on a league of its own.

[Q] VZW Touch Pro 2 MR3?

Just noticed PCD has an MR3 update available dated 11/30/2010. Downloading it now. Anyone got any ideas what it fixes/conatains?
The only thing the Word document that was included only states the update provides a 'Qualcomm security update'. I'm about to run the update. I'll post an update after it's finished.
Well, that was uneventful :|. I don't recall what the version numbers for anything were, but nothing appears to be different. I was really hopeful a Windows Phone update from 6.5 to 6.5.3 or better would be included, but not happening. I guess the security update is fine and dandy, but anyone flashing this update hoping for something exciting, I didn't see it. Oh well .
Damn.... I would say the only thing that would make me flash at this point would be a bump to 6.5.3
Looks like I'll stick with MR2
New radio!!
I have extracted the new Verizon rom.
It includes a new radio: 2.37!!
The packages are quite old...see screenshot.
I have to examinate the most interesting part...drivers
Let's hope for something new.
Wow. Yeah if you see any fixes let us know. I am going to stick with MR2 until there is a good reason to switch to MR3.

The word from PPCgeeks is that someone checked all the files, all you need is the just radio for the update (posted at ppcgeeks).

Just the radio with RUU, phone needs to be unlocked (If on PPCgeeks don't forget to click the above link and say thanks !)

[ROM]-Stock 1.55.531.3 Rooted, Deodex -- REMOVED DUE TO KANG :O

KANG - To steal or a stolen code when referring to programming. Also can refer to leaked coding.
Due to the copious amounts of kanging that now happens in regards to android development I will be pulling all of my links and changing the original posts with this. If you would like to use my roms please feel free to find the kanged version elsewhere.
For inspiring developers, rtfm or ask someone who knows what they are doing before you steal someone elses work, look at someones code and get the general idea. If you port or use something as a base, credit that person. Do not just link back to the thread where you got it from. My email is [email protected] so feel free to ask questions, if I know the answers I will be willing to assist.
I don't wish to call anyone out but I will say there are a few roms, specifically for MT4G Slide that have been kanged. One of which was taken from me, another was a kanged version of CM7 which was just the Settings.apk SettingsProvider.apk and Launcher.apk replaced. CM7 is framework edits, not just a list of apps an entire team works on. You cannot just replace apps in CyanogenMod and expect it to work thus the reason some parts of the Settings.apk force close. Its not hard to be an idiot but its even easier to spot bull**** work, do yourselves a favor, leave xda, leave rootzwiki, leave whatever thread you are on and learn from people who know what the fk they're doing.
If my email fills with hate mail, then fine, at least what I did I feel was right and do not have to worry about my development being taken and rebadged, if I'm out of line then have a moderator delete and close my thread. Thanks!
Mainly because we are looking for s-off... Good work though

Does this have the insecure boot.img? What about the hboot version?
I'm currently unlocked and s-off, running UndeadK9's "stock" deodexed/rooted/optimized R2 release ROM. I don't want to lose s-off or root, but I like having a more "stock" rom as this is my only phone.

I know Daniel60104's ROM does have the unsecure boot.img, not sure on this one.
On a side note, has anyone tried flashing the radio update that accompanied this release? I know that radio is a no-go for older ROMS, but since it was designed with this release, no word yet how it works with a rooted ROM.
Anyone noticed battery life improvement on this stock version? I've been using this for a week now and I can say there's a big difference compare to the older version. I am using the non-debloat (stock). Another thing is I have yet to experience the random warm battery issue that I've been experiencing from older stock based roms.

I have noticed much better battery performance with this stock ROM, as well. I'm using Daniel's stock, rooted ROM, and I ran Bloater to take out the things I didn't want (like TMobileTV, TeleNAV, QIK). This ROM runs very quick, smooth. I'm still wondering about the newer radio, though I'm hesitant to flash it because I can't afford to screw up this phone. This is my ONLY phone, it has to work.

As long as the Md5 matches your safe, just follow the instructions one at a time, like read all the way through them once and make sure you understand the steps, then go back and start the process, that's it the phone handles the rest...BUT its still scary I understand that, Hell I've had my own EVO Shift ROM for about 10 months and i still use the stock 2.2 radio on that phone

Given that I'm running 1.55.531.3, S-OFF and rooted, with the original stock radio, and everything is working splendidly (wi-fi, bluetooth, camera, gps, etc.), I'm not gonna mess with it for now.
I'm interested to see what HTC comes out with since they halted the 1.55.531.3 OTA update due to "performance issues". When they restart, I wonder if it will be a different version, for instance.

Well them performance issues can and will be addressed asap, its all about tweaking the ROM, we had major Sense reloads on the evo shift so we learned to allocate more memory here rather than there, and once a ROM was odexed/scripted/opted they flat out flew.
When it comes to the radio on my DoubleShot i will probably never change the radio cause if it aint broke dont fix it

[Q] Hi. I'm a noob, with a lg g2x

Yep. I'm a noob, i admit it.
I know nothing about what i'm doing (yet) but i'm not a complete noob with computers.
I understand flashing is basically changing the firmware/OS in the phone.
So i need help getting started, and a few questions answered.
First off, I'm a T-mobile myfamily user, with an unlocked tmobile/att phone.(lg G2x P999dw i believe)
Will rooting it screw up my service, or will t-mobile never know the difference?
Is there some Up-to-date easy root? and up to date version of the 2.3.3 software for it?
most of the posts i find are from a year ago or more.. i don't like things to be that far out of date..
Is it going to make me have to re-install all my apps? I have a couple gigs worth on my phone and SD card, it would be a pain to get them back. (including my progress on sims freeplay )
To start i'm interested in just rooting with the version i already have(to get rid of most of the ads in free games/apps ) .. but i see there's a lot of builds out there, is there a stable android ICS for my phone, if i decided i wanted to try it out? (linked to the safe/easy flash/root question above)
The last question was because i don't like being left behind, this phone is a lot of fun with 3d games, why haven't they updated the version of android it's running? or does someone know that an update for this phone is coming?
i also want to know what apps are safe to remove. Like.. is the t-mobile my account removable? I don't use it, it's for standard t-mobile, not "myfamily" (Walmart) , and i login through the website to check my bill. .so it's not needed.
Also, the facebook and twitter apps are useless to me, i don't do "social networks"
Sorry if this seems like a lot, but feel free to quote and slice it into smaller parts. I'll be adding this page to my bookmarks and checking it often (daily or more) and try to respond posts. As well, i'm going to post an image of my phone info from the phone itself
Please go easy on me, I'm not a linux user, so i don't have full grasp of what i'm doing.

Rooting won't effect your plan, sometimes depending on the rom you many lost a bar or gain a bar with your signal... But so much as of a stable ICS rom, I'm running Hellfire Sandwich 1.7 (dirty version) and it is very stable and smooth... Also so much as having to reinstall all your apps and data, you can get Titanium Backup from the Play Store it will backup all apps plus the data that goes along with the app and after you flash a new rom just restore the backup from Titanium Backup and your good to go

First, rooting is kinda an inside joke around here. We don't root the g2x, we Nvflash CWM 5020, 5028, 5813, your choice here. Then the first thing you do after this is make a nandroid back up. After this, if you are in fact on the march baseband, just flash either kwes rooted stock or buru's mildly tweaked stock. The roms come rooted. With the nvflashed cwm, you really need to f up to brick the g2x, it's almost unbrickable after Nvflash, almost. About our threads, where are you reading the year plus old threads? Most of our threads are current here. Any questions, you could pm just about anyone on these boards and they'll help you.

there lies the issue , people go back to all the technical jargon, when i have no idea what i'm doing yet.
I paid 220 bucks for this phone, and currently have no money to buy another, so i'd rather not brick it.
if nobody can sorta.. hold my hand, then i may just stay how i am.
Use this to flash clockworkmod recovery. It includes instructions. Also check out the FAQ and stickies at the top of the dev section.

Find the rom you want to use, save it on ur SD card and remember where it is. (If it isn't a stock rom you will also have to download/flash gapps (Google apps).
Once u install cwm (from the above link), boot into cwm holding power and volume down till u get past the LG boot screen. Then go to backup/restore. Back up ur current rom. Then wipe data and cach. And then depending on your baseband, install zip with new rom from SD.
This is pretty much the jist of it.. when I was looking into it, I researched for weeks before I even asked a question, so I could understand all this geek speak.

see? this is what i mean, that thread is from mid 2011.. almost a year ago.
i want to be sure i'm using the newest , most stable, of everything
I also don't want to lose my apps, or their data.
If you just want to just root the firmware you have right now then you can forget about Clockwork Recovery and simply refer to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661657
The link above contains two easy, newbie-friendly programs to root your phone. I do have a bias toward the one I posted only because it doesn't ask you to install unrelated apps while you root (it does, however, ask for a donation). Before you root, go to Settings > Applications > Development and check "USB Debugging".
If you want to install a custom firmware then you can follow instructions for Clockwork Recovery (this thread was updated about a month ago and contains the latest versions of Clockwork Recovery).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054492
If that's too hard then you can use the thread rbryant1983 pointed to as that method is still relevant. After you install Clockwork Recovery then we can help you from there in installing custom firmware.
Everything you do is at your own risk.

This is the guide I used: http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/03/how-to-flash-a-custom-recovery-image-on-the-t-mobile-g2x/
It gets no more simple than that. There is a set of explicit instructions WITH video..

Ahh, didn't even notice that. There you go, an up-to-date thread.

Most of the ROM threads that you'll see at the top of the Dev forums are up to date. Pay no mind to when the thread was started, because most developers just update the download links in the original post (op) to the lastest version of his or her rom. Also read through each ROM's thread for more information and not just the OP. You can view logs of changes and updates made to the rom, as well as get feedback on stability and bugs with the rom from users who have actually tried it.

For your information Mr. Stang, my G2x is rooted! Bahahahaha
hey mine too and running ics owains 77 with new baseband. g2x is the way to go
So. I got all this figured out. Tried a few roms. I've been using Eaglesblood for a bit now... they're supposed to be making a 4.1 port... but the one for my phone is only alpha, and crashed a lot when i tried it..
I wish it was easy to switch roms without losing apps.
oh, and eaglesblood 4.0.1 or whatever it is doesn't do the "auto-download apps fro mgoogle" thing. I had to use app backup-restore, several times... doing too many at once made the thing crash.

Try paranoidandroid ICS or JB build 12 or build 7 respectively. Its alot better than the EGB brand.
Buy TitaniumPro from market. It helps to backup user apps thru it so that you don't have to manually install evrything back.

I also find that when i install a new app, process system gets the whole "wait/ report/ close" pop up... that strikes me as bad.
No. I'm not buying titanium pro when app backup-restore does the same thing for free.
and where do i get said jb build 7?

New BlueStacks???

I just downloaded the newest Bluestacks, which is nice because it already comes with Google play installed. However I tried to root it with the latest root i've seen on XDA. However, myself and a few other people have been unable to get it to work. We figured it might not work, but figured it wouldnt hurt to try anyway. I was wonder if anyone was working on a root for this, and if there was any way I could assist? Just let me know, thanks

Might try the Q & A section....

Thanks I checked that out but nothing relevant. They updated beta on July 23rd -- beta-1 release (0.7.2.751) -- and the original root does not seem to work on it like it did the first beta release. Not sure where the differences might be in code or what changed that is no longer allowing me to root this update. Sadly the app I use the most does not work on any other release but this newest one.
