Email Questions

First - thanks to everyone at xda for all the tips and help - what a great site!
Now don't laugh when I say that I have a T-Mobile (Danger) Sidekick. I have been happy with it but I want to replace my SK and my Pocket PC with one device instead of two.
With my Sidekick, I got a separate [email protected] account. My email came through without me checking it and I could also receive and send from some other accounts (like my personal earthlink account) The email came through without me having to check for it. (I don't know of it was push or pull but it works quite well)
I am seriously considering getting a Fuze but have some questions about email:
1 - Does AT&T give you a separate email address?
2 - I have read that I can get my personal earthlink as well as gmail and yahoo mail on the Fuze but do I need to have AT&T's "express mail" to get it?

To my knowledge, at&t doesnt give you an email address. You could use gmail with the gmail app or through opera, but im not sure if theres an app that would work with the touchflo 3d tab. If you have a live account you can use windows live mail and that does work with the tf3D tab. Im not sure about earthlink or gmail though. Hope that helps.

att gives you an email address, but it's *your phone number*@att.mywireless.com or something like that.

you can also get a media net email address.
with the fuze, my yahoo mail is pushed to my phone at the sametime it appears in my web browser (if i am online at the time)
i also have active synch synch up to my corporate exchange server email using https

I don't have an AT&T account (yet) and I do not use Outlook for email so I am unfamiliar with both.
I still don't understand: what exactly does AT&T's "express mail" do? Will I need it in order to get my earthlink mail on a Fuze? I know I can check mail through the web browser but will the WM email client receive my earthlink email automatically or do I have to manually check for it?

Enterprise Activation On Andriod

Let me first apologize if this is a question which has been discussed at length in another area.
My company currently uses blackberrys with an enterprise exchange e-mail system (i suppose that is called BES with blackberrys, no?). Anyway, on my old blackberry, all I had to do was put in my corporate e-mail and an enterprise activation password. From there the setup would do the rest. Is there any way to get my new MyTouch phone to get hooked into the system the same way my blackberry was? Cost is irrelevant, I just want to find a solution.
I have looked at software options (i.e. touchdown, and the work email program) with no luck.
Thanks for any help the community could offer!

BES servers users BES accounts and they link are like this:
Blackberry <-> BES <-> Exchange
In Android, iPhone or Windows Mobile, you need your NT IAccount credentials as you communicate directly throw your phone to the Exchange server, like this:
Device <-> Exchange
So, probably what you need is:
-Name of the server (sometimes is the OWA(Outlook Web Access) address)
-Credentials (Sometimes is needed to have in your NT Account credentials for that, in the company I'm, we call it Active Sync Access).
-Username, Network login (NT ID)
-Domain
-Password
And... yeahhh this is general!!!

Interesting.. so I believe I have everything outside the credentials part. If I have my old blackberry and my work laptop, can I obtain all the information to set up the MyTouch? If so, do you know how?

Ryan, what I tried to explain to you is that the BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) account, you can only use to your Blackberry. Any of the information there, except the e-mail address you'll use to configure your exchange account in an Android phone.
There's also other issue, not all exchange accounts will be working with the normal exchange e-mail feature on the Android, the to the security policies of some companies.
I can help you configure that, no prob man.. This is the list of things that you need to ask your IT department on your company:
- Username
- Password (will be the same as your e-mail)
- Domain
- Server address (in some cases are the same as the webmail address (OWA - Outlook Web Access).
P.S.: Ask them if this access force security features on your phone. If it does, Android phones haven't passwords to unlock and won't match the requirements for having this feature on your phone. You'll need to download a program for that (I don't remember what was that, but in the general section, you'll find as other person indicated me).
And you'll be set...

you need to also make sure that on your exchange account, they have Microsoft Activesync enabled on your account in order to allow mobile devices other than blackberry's can access corporate emails. you need to ask your admin on this part.

You can try:
DriodMail
K9 Mail
But I find the Default email app is the best.

I think RoadSync is also free on Android. Although it was built for Symbian I find it excellent.

Our Exchange setup was just changed to support the enhanced security features and they just forced the "remote wipe" capability.
So everybody who was used to the stock client is shut out!
Google issued a patch for the same BUT to ENTERPRISE customers only!

What the hell was that about.
The stock android mail client was working for me a lot of the people and now it just gives some error about unable to connect.
Now if we need our corporate email we have to either buy the Commercial product:
TouchDown Email : $20
MoxiMail : $20
Enhanced Email : $10
OR compromise with the free clients which just does mail.
K-9 Mail works for most of the Motorola Droid phones.
I have a LG GT540 and it stopped after a day.
MailDroid works better on LG GT540 android phone. I have a rooted android 2.2 on GT540.
All the free mail clients are the basic exchange mail clients which can help you to read email and reply to email.
It does not have GAL (corporate addressbook Lookup). So you need to know the email address of the person to send email to.
Workaround: Corporate AddressBook
Looks up corporate addressbook and has search function.
After a few weeks use most of them switched to MailDroid which seems to be more stable.
Any of the genius out there who have been working on the ROM have been able to get the patch in so that the stock email client can work as it is supposed to work?
That was the core function most users use their phone for and now it does not work unless you pay up and buy a commercial product.

How does one choose multiple receipients from Corporate AddressBook in the same message ( default email client ) ?

first time Android user here. I know people in my company that use Android phones and I was told that anything over 2.1 would work for our exchange. When I try to set up the account, it tells me that the server requires security features the phone doesn't have. No one at my IT department, TMO support, Samsung Support, or anyone else could get it working. I know it has something to do with the password protection and remote wipe security that my companies exchange server requires. Can someone help me or will i have to go back to the blackberry ? I don't want to go back to that berry.

Try installing K9 and see if it works with your company's exchange system.

Touchdown works well with exchange as well (although it's not free). There is a free trial.

I was using touchdown untill android 2.2 came out then it started supporting remote wipe.

Once you setup your phone it should force you to password lock it from the home screen. Don't know what else they would require other than remote wipe in the event you left the company. I need to make sure I use ssl as well.

I still have not gotten this to work. N1kkI6, that is exactly what i need on this. I would assume that 2.3 would have this if 2.2 has it right?

It should work fine. It could possibly be ssl certificate related, or maybe they don't have ActiveSync enabled on your account.. who knows. What sort of error do you get if any? I use Android on Exchange. Is it Exchange 2003/2007/2010?

i know, that the nexus have some small problems on using excahnge account
(bday, aniversary, etc..)
i would like to fix it, but therefore i need YOUR HELP !
i would need to see, how the nexus send the birthday to exchange server.

[Q] Exchange Email Not Working

Hello,
I just purchased the G2X with the understanding that it supports exchange corporate email. When I try to setup the email, I get the error "this server requires security features your phone does not support". I have tried checking both of the security certificate boxes and confirmed that I am entering the right address.
Does the phone support Exchange? My company uses Exchange 2007.

The built in mail client is pretty bad for exchange tbh. My particular issue was that it could not let me see the contents of most of my folders. I've started using touchdown for exchange, it has a free 30 day trial and is much better.
I saw options for exchange 2007 when installing it so hopefully it supports your company's security policy. It does and auto detect of server config on initial setup.

Exchange works fine for me here. You might want to check with your IT department. If there is anything wrong with the way they setup OWA or what ever it is called to access exchange over the web, then you might have issues.

Yup, Exchange works fine for me. It uses DAV over OWA instead of true ActiveSync, but only WinMo supports REAL ActiveSync anyway. In practice you really can't tell the difference.

I also use touchdown for exchange. It's pretty nice and also you get 90 day trail if you download from amazon app store.

Exchange 2007 works here
We use hosted exchange 2007 at our company and the stock app works for me as well. +1 for talking to your IT department or trying Touchdown.

They'll need to enable support for non-provisionable devices on the Exchange server for the ActiveSync policy assigned to you. Or you can go with Touchdown as suggested as Touchdown has a better ActiveSync implementation than the stock client.
