Perception Firebird Kernel - Captivate General

I have to post here because I dont have the points to post in developers. Been reading and romming since Nov. 2010.
I have run mostly Design Gears roms. Currently trying Cog4.3 with Overstock kernel because of sleep death. I'm testing Cog for a friend.
I still like Perception better and prob will go back, but the last Firebird Kernel had a bug that wont allow the pc to access the external SDcard. Not really a problem for me, my work around is to use other software to access home network via wifi to move music files on to the external SD.
My question; is there another kernel that works well with perception?
I know DG has dicontinued Perception, is it also true for the FireBird kernel?
The thing I love about Perception is it has the best of everything. HSUPA, Bluetooth worked, Wired headphones worked.
Noteerception 10.4 had Firebird .9, I believe. It had a bug that killed the mic on wired headset during phone calls. Firebird 1.0 fixed the mic bug but has the Ext SD card bug.

I think if you use the Firebird 1.0 (not 0.4) you will see the external SD mounting to PC. I like the firebird kernel a lot, and it always mounts both cards. There was a time when the EXT SD mounted as a cd rom drive instead of a usb stick but it still worked.

There's a sticky for this ROM in Q&A. Post there.

Good thing u didn't post n dev.

[CDMA] [ROM] HTC Desire Froyo 2.2 w/SenseUI (12 OCT 2010)

Not a fan of Sense, but it is at least bearable on HDPI devices. I used the official HTC RUU from the UK as a base, and now have a bootable, somewhat working Froyo ROM for the CDMA Desire.
It is by no means a daily ROM. I'm uploading here so we can get some testers and help from other developers. Since I'm usually occupied writing code for a living, any help is welcomed and appreciated.
What's working?
Audio, incoming/outgoing calls, SMS, data (works, but flaky), camera, GPS (needs more testing to really be given a thumbs up), backlight, vibration, live wallpapers
What's not working?
Wifi, BT, orientation, lights, MMS, and I'm sure much more.
What's included that isn't stock?
Busybox, DarkTremor apps2sd, root shell, deodexed
Currently, it's booting off of the stock 2.6.29 kernel and modules. I was able to get the 2.6.35 Cyanogen kernel to boot, but did not get all drivers/modules loading properly. I will be looking into that soon as well as possibly using the Incredible ROM as a base.
What can I do to help?
Download, test, tweak, get in touch with me. Twitter or PM on here will work. Pay attention to this thread, I will keep it updated. I look forward to your feedback.

good luck with everything i will give this a try once it becomes a little more stable. nice to see some cdma roms out here
I was correct in assuming we'd have success with the Droid Incredible build. Testing now and will tweak more tomorrow, stay tuned for updates.
Wonderful news!! I have been using the CM6 nightly on my Cell South with only a MMS bug but I will def rock out DPhase's ROM once it gets a little more stable. I am so excited to see a developer from Cell South! Can't wait to buy you a beer. I use my phone for work but I will flash this weekend to check it out and test for sure. I have a source that is putting the release of a OTA 2.2 on cell south to no earlier than the first quarter of '11 at best.

Have you had any issues with data on CM6?
I have been using CM6 as well on my cell south desire, I have not experienced any data issues. But it has only been a couple days since flash.
It seems a little slow but I think that is more Cell South than anything. I jump on wifi any chance I get. Still no MMS no matter what size file I try to send.
I would love to help with this... thank you for looking into it. Since it is not a "daily" rom, I really cannot run it too long until WiFi is fixed.
By lights is that the Message LED only correct? Or is it the Camera LED too?
Thanks again for starting this project! I would hope that you get the cyanogen kernel working, because I want the overclock
what can i do to help with this? i have a lot of time at work. but am far from a developer. CM6.1 is well on its way. id like to test for more devs. let me know what i can do. im flashing your rom now. then im going to try your MIUI

Ok great... I'll load this up sometime tomorrow. I am doing a battery test on my phone today to see how CM6 compares to the 2.1 stock sense rom.

hell yeah
After just 20 minutes of using this it is the [email protected]#$ other than the things you mentioned it is running great keep it up.
i just installed this and have been playing with it for an hour, and OMFG it is so sweet, thank you so much for working on this ROM. i will post any bugs i come across and hope it help to build better sense UI froyo ROMS for the CDMA desire!
thank you again! loving this so much right now i feel like a kid on Christmas!
i have formatted and partitioned my sd card ,the first one is 6 gigs fat32 and the 2nd is 2 gigs ext2. i cant get the SD card to show up on the phone, says its unmounted??? is this a known bug or something new. or am i doing something wrong? i will try taking the partition out and leaving it as 8 gigs fat32, however i thought that for APPS2SD needed a ext2 partition?
EDIT.... i deleted the ext partition and left the sd card as a full 8 gigs (7.65 gigs) fat32 and now this rom will see the sd card, however it will not move apps to the sd card.....
I don't think you are supposed to have an EXT partition more than about 1GB. That might be part of your problem.

apps2sd will not work with fat32 partitions. You must have an ext partition, recreate but don't go over a gig.
Sorry Dphase I didn't get a chance to load it up today... I had alot on my plate today. I will give it a shot tomorrow night and probably through the weekend. How is the battery life on this compared to 2.1? I am getting double the battery life on 2.2 cyanogen for the BravoC than I did with the stock rom, so I am having trouble getting myself to switch at this point.

thank you, i will try to recreate a smaller partition now and try again.
EDIT.. I cleaned up the sd card and started from scratch, set my fat32,then created a 512mb in ext2,(1st partition is fat32,2nd is ext2) same problem. when i start the phone it says on the top of the screen "safe to remove SD card" message goes away, then i go to settings/SD card it says the card is unavailable.
but if i format the whole card as fat32 it will show up and work for everything BUT apps2sd. i know that i wont be able to move apps till i get a ext partition on the card, i just cant get the phone to see the sd card after i set it up.

WIFI Calling routing to speaker

This issue, that while using WIFI calling my audio during calls is routed to the external speaker, rather than the earpiece, has plagued my phone for weeks.
It seems to have started on the first BALI kernel, though as per Honk, it shouldn't be his kernel causing the issue. Though some are not reliant on WIFI calling as I am, I know there are others plagued with this issue..
That being said I started this thread to see if we can figure out what the issue is and not clog up the Bali thread
here's some info I found on a CM7 forum albeit for a different device, ZTE Blade, though with a very similar issue with all VoIP calling being routed to speaker.
It seems they were having alot of trouble figuring it out as well, and i'm not sure I understand some of the fixes they were trying to implement. maybe it can help though..
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=2858
I guess I'm the only one w the issue.. back to the Bali thread lol
sent from my real Gs move in silence like lasagna
You're not the only one with the issue...just the only one that it's really bothering. I don't use wifi calling being in NYC so the coverage is fine.
But I described that issue in the bali thread along with others, and also noted some issues possibly related to it.... voice dialing doesn't work, bluetooth voice commands don't work.
I'm using a stock deodexed Whitehawk KD1. The ONLY thing I flashed was Bali, and the issue has ALWAYS existed in each of the Bali kernels. It HAS to be Bali.
Yeah it is definitely the bali kernel it wasnt there before i flashed thus kernel i usw it sometime but it really not that important always 4g whereever i am going in my city
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
I wouldnt blame the kernel, still running stock and have the same issue. I think it's the free wifi apk. I never experienced it before I called t mob and asked for the "upgrade". now on incoming calls I get speaker connection and on out going calls the recieving end always complains about echo.
On the moon our weekend are so advanced they encompass the entire week
I've been having the same problem for the past few weeks. For me, it started when I switched from the stock rom to teamwhiskey's rom. Its very annoying.
Yeah the echo is a problem too but I attributed it to Bali as well.. when the phone was stock there was always a low volume issue.. maybe tmobile will upgrade the app

Its the kernel. Wifi calling works fine with stock kernel. this is a known issue with Bali kernels.

Project-V w/ Bullet 1.42 v2.2
T-mobile SGS4G running Bali 3.3 kernel with no custom ROM.
When I flashed this kernel I also wiped dalvik, data, etc. for a nice clean flash. At first calls routed to the speaker phone, but after letting the phone sit and rebuild for 20 minutes or so, the problem went away.

The echo issue is horrible.. all people do is complain that they can't hear a thing but their voices. Its hard when its an important phonecall

I can confirm this as well... routing to speaker on occasion and echoing
I live quite a ways out of town and so wifi calling is the only option for me. My service out here without wifi is absolute ****. Given that I work from home and I'm always on conference calls, this is a real problem. I flashed the 3.3 Bali today and can confirm that it's still happening. Are there any updates to this at all?
I think were SOL at this point.. hopefully when GB comes out with a new custom kernel it'll work properly

Stock ROM, stock kernel does *not* do the same thing. I've flashed stock to bali to stock to bali to stock again, and *EVERY* time I flash Bali, the problem starts. EVERY time I replace bali with the stock kernel, the problem goes away. I get nearly no signal in my room, and I rely heavily on wifi calling. Without a fix for this problem, the bali kernel is basically useless to me. Whenever I turn on wifi, all my calls route through the speaker and the other end complains about a terrible echo.
This is clearly an issue between the kernel and the wifi calling app, and since the stock kernel works fine whereas the bali kernel doesn't, my thinking is someone should setup some kind of data gathering layer BETWEEN the kernel and the wifi calling app to figure out how/why the two kernels are handling the wifi calling app differently.
Either way, this is not happening on the stock-from-t-mobile rom+kernel.
If you are not getting a signal from your room, try switching modems.I never got signal in my apartment and I flashed to kf1 and I started getting full bars and 4g. The stock wifi app seems to be giving a lot of users problems. I'll look into an alternative app

did you bother to flash the gapps??
Just did and got all the Google apps! So far I am really enjoying this over the iPhone. Hopefully I will keep finding cool apps etc.. that will keep me interested!
I started with CM7 stable as well and really liked it. Once you get more comfortable you should definitely give Nightly a shot.
I agree 100%. This is my first go into modifying any kind of phone or CPU for that matter.
You should flash the google apps. And there is one important thing to remember about switching from Inspire Stock to cyanogen, There is no HTC Sense (and if you like music no SRS Enhancement). If you like HTC's (Stock) widgets and User Interface you should probably stick to a Sense Rom. Cyanogen is not a sense rom.
There's SRS enhancement for CM7. At least in some programs. I can use it in PowerAMP.
I use androids native music player. I didn't know Power Amp had it. EDIT: I downloaded it and the DHD effects in Power Amp don't work in cyanogen (at least on my phone)
I am still trying to figure out how to put my music onto the phone. I am assuming I can just put the files into the SD?

Just connect the phone to the computer via usb, mount the phone as a disc drive. Make a new folder on your sd card labeled music and start dropping them in there. I'm sure you have a 16gb sd card, you won't have to worry about the amount of songs you have.

[Q] Speaker issues!!!!WTF

ok, so im running the latest version of ICBINB rom on froyo i believe. i dont trust myself with the steps for GB on the galaxy s 4g yet, but also running the bali 3.3 kernel, why oh why does sound from in call come through both the earpiece AND the goddam speakerphone!?!?!? this is wracking my brains! google is useless, and has provided me with very little in terms of assistance.
i have factory data reset, reflashed the rom, wiped, wiped again, wiped some more, still wiped, even odined to kd1 stock, reflashed ICBINB and i still get this demon....
anyone have any help to offer?
Unfortunately I do not but if you know how to flash and restore data like that then getting onto GB is a breeze and the benefits are amazing. ICBINB KI3 is amazing. I have never had any issues with the sound on GB but I did on froyo
That is one of the problems with the kernel, there its no fix unless you go to GB.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Are you using wifi calling? I think that's the only time that it is an issue. If so, you should be able to use titanium backup to freeze or uninstall wifi calling. I think that would fix the issue.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Yes I use WiFi calling a lot but it doesn't happen on stock Rom. I have had some hesitation about switching it to GB being I've seen some nasty rumors floating around about GB destroying sd cards.
Coming from the vibrant to the fascinate to the sgs4g ( I also have a HTC sensation) I'm used to flashing, and subsequently bricking and unbricking my devices, but when my 32 gb class 8 sdcard is at risk. I get apprehensive. Plus some of these roms say check mounts, but they don't list Wtf the mounts need to be in the thread for the Rom.
I'm getting a replacement sgs4g tomorrow, issues not related to flashing, so I will try a GB approach off a fresh device.
Thx guys, you may have saved my sanity. Especially since I don't see any other kernels for ext4 besides Bali. On group anyways.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA App
With red CWM you should not have to change the mounts. Some people do just to be safe. Almost all GB roms I have used have been UMMU.
I could definitely understand your concern about sd card. There are always risks that come with flashing. However in my personal experience it is well worth the risk
Wifi calls rerouting through the speaker phone is common on all of the Froyo ROMs. There was never a fix for it.
You don't really need to check mounts anymore, although it's good practice. Having the red CWM (thanks to krylon360), we don't need to check mounts.
In the event you don't use drhonk's Bali kernels or GB kernels, you would have to set them to UMMU 99% of the time. Not using them would be crazy though. ;P
on all froyo roms huh....that sucks lol i did notice when i odined back to kd1 stock i no longer had that issue. thats good to know about the mounts though. saves me a headache lol.
i use wifi calling at my home since the tmobile signal where i live is relatively crap ( talking G signal) so wifi really saves my bacon.
however at work and at my school i get 4g and done have the issue., instead i get ringtones just go off randomly during phone calls. and they dont stop until you end call.
vut again, after using odin to go kd1 again, no issues at all yet.
thx guys!!!
back to playing with my sensation!

[Q] July Baseband/ Custom Rom/ Instant GPS

Hello All
I Recently updated my baseband after much frustration with GPS and pleased to say i now have GPS instant locks. real instant locks 1-2 Second. Now, I am really wanting to flash a custom rom w/out losing my current GPS state. Can anyone confirm that has done the same thing (updated baseband and achieved instant locks) That after you flashed a custom rom you still have instant GPS locks? and which Custom rom you flashed? Thank you in advance EVERYONE.
You can flash a stock 2.3.3 based ROM, and GPS will work perfectly.

I'm running Gigglebread, which can be found on RootzWiki.
I've never experienced an issue with it, and GPS locks are pretty good. I average 14-16 hours of battery life @ 1.2GHz OC with -100 mV underclock with Faux123 CM Kernel.
For a stock based ROM, I would recommend Tsugi's 2.3.4 ROM.
Thanks for your reply. I ran tsugi previous to updating my baseband and yes tsugi was great. Does it not matter that it is stock 2.3.4? And not 2.3.3 based. Gps wise?

So just to recap a bit, you went back to stock, updated baseband, reflashed weapon and all is good? when you reflashed did your wipe cache & dalvik and format sys?
And also, are you having any problems with usb not mounting extrl sd to computer?

Yes. I was running tsugi, then updated baseband, reflashed CWM using NV flash, Rooted using JBoxer posted root.zip, then reflashed weapon, before flashing I followed whitehawks directions in OP: I wiped/ data factory, wiped system. Then flashed the rom, Everything runs perfect as it did before only now I get instant gps locks, data, wifi, mounting ext and int sd works perfect as it always did. Hope that helps
Now an even more stupid question. I have service through Cincinnati Bell... if I want to update my baseband, do I need to find a special file? Or will the July basebanf thread work? Is that baseband file specific to T-Mobile ?
If I need a specific baseband for Cincinnati Bell, would anybody know where.to go for that information? It seems that the.Cincinnati Bell G2x users are an ultra small group .. so threads are limited.

I updated my baseband and now every ROM I've run has almost instant GPS locks. Granted, stock and 2.3.3 based roms like weapon and Tsugi or even Baka get quicker fixes, but to me, you can't give up the added functionality of CM roms like eagles or Phoenix blood. Flashing any other rom shouldn't alter your baseband at all. The new baseband in conjunction with apps like GPS fix and faster fix should add up to almost instant locks on any ROM.

Thanks. Ive actually ran those mentioned roms and gps fixes (when I was on old baseband) for me personally they had too many bugs in the features I used most. Great roms nonetheless, just lacked in areas I needed. Weapon s works perfect for me. I understand roms do not change baseband, I was just curious as to if it affected the gps functionalityThanks again for your suggestion s
Well I suppose that is why we have a recovery Nvflash.. I'm gonna give it a shot and see what happens.
I'll let you know and then we'll have the answer to whether basebands are carrier specific.
I would sure love to have GPS locks... on average it takes me over 10 minutes to get a lock. GPS status shows that I see and am using 5 or 6 satellites .. but when I open maps... it just takes forever to get a lock.

Stock and CM7 based roms mount the internal and SD card differently. You will experience problems if you install applications to your SD card on one type of rom and move to another. Changing the mount point manually (editing vold.fstab) will fix some of the problems (ie. your programs will launch properly) but will disable USB mass storage as the rom will try to mount the wrong (virtual/)directory to the USB path.
This is just from my own experience going between EaglesBlood(CM7) and Weapon(Stock). I'm not an expert at this but I tried five or six different changed to the vold.fstab and couldn't get everything just right after switching from EB to WG2x.
Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a way to make the current structure of your internal/external storage work with a new structure, and have USB mass storage functionality. I just haven't found it.

Very brave! I would have done it in your position too. Instant Gps locks was a must for me. Looking forward to the update. I'll be praying for a good turn out
Flashed following instructions ... it appears the basebannd was not cell provider specific. Or, if it is, entering the apn information straightened it out. I have the July 15th baseband and my phone still works.
However, it makes no difference in my GPS locks. They are still slow. Maybe I will edit the GPS configuration file as mentioned in a couple other threads.. and see if that coupled with the new baseband will improve it.
If you care at all, I will post an update.

Absolutely I'm always open to learning. Thanks for your update. Have you tried gps running stock? Immediately after updating baseband, our did your just reflash weapon immediately to test run gps?
Did.not test run ... immediately reflashed...
However, in the GPSconfig file I disabled the wifi wiper (very bottom of file, change value from 1 to 0) and I had instant GPS locks.!!!
I mean instant.... less than 5 seconds. May be a fluke so I'm gonna drive around and periodically open maps to see how long it takes to lock in.

Absolutely made a huge improvement. Once I made that change to the gpsconfig file, I have had GPS locks in less than 1 minute.
