[Q] No update notifications for installed apps - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At some point my Nexus S (stock unrooted 2.3.2) stopped notifying me of updates for installed apps. I've checked that it's set to do this (even turned notifications off then on again).
Any suggestions to get this working again?
Thanks...

It's always a hit or miss with me. Mostly a miss.

you can go into Titanium Backup
Market
then select the option to wipe data for market
then it will work again
just make sure you have market set to notify you of updates
if you don't have TI, you can go via Settings > Manage Applications
and select market, then delete data

[Q] Market Issues; PLEASE HELP!

When I enter the market, none of the apps I have installed are showing and the purchased apps just say "purchased." The weird thing is that all of the apps, paid versions and free versions, that I have installed are still on the phone and I am able to use them. If I clear the cashe and data from the market and go to the "my apps" tab everything shows up as normal. After a few minutes the apps are not showing again and I have to clear the data and cache again for them to show. Is there something I can do to make them always show like normal so I can stop wasting my time and patience having to clear the cache and data everytime I want to check for updates? Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh, and I am rooted with the most recent stock ota update and stock rom. Thanks!

[Q] Phone/Transformer -> App Coexistence

Before I mess things up, thought I'd see what you folks think.
I wasn't surprised, but not positive how to handle this. My unit was set up to update everything by default, and it installed all many of the apps that are on my phone. Of course I don'dt want all of those on the Transformer.
My concern is that I don't want to mess up my phone if I uninstall apps from teh Transformer, having them uninstall from the phone.
Any suggestions for handling this?
Uninstall away, i did the same and the apps you remove from the tf will still be on ur phone

Uninstall all you want, they won't be uninstalled from your phone. It's just meant as a handy feature when you get a new device, it'll install all your favorite apps for you.
I always turn that "feature" off before setting up my Google account within Android. Settings > Privacy > Uncheck Automatic Restore
NOTE: On phones at least (don't have my tablet handy), you have to check off Back up my data before you can uncheck Automatic Restore. That is why I do this whole process BEFORE adding my Google Account. Even if you tell Android not to back up your data during the setup procedure, it'll still sometimes do the Automatic Restore, because it's checked off (even though it's disabled in the Settings)
Thanks everyone...

[Q] Market Automatic Updates Not Working

I have a Motorola Xoom Wifi that for some reason stopped updating automatically the apps i have installed. If i want to update my apps, i have to go into the market and go to the "my app" tab in order to see what updates are available so i can install them. I've had this issue for quite some time, but haven't had the luck to isolate it so I'm deciding to put it here for all of you to see and comment on it.
Troubleshooting done:
1-reconfigure all settings and preferences involving updates (this includes apps settings)
2-uninstall and reinstall all apps
3-clear all cache and app data
Not sure if this could be the exact cause, but i have my eye on it 'cause i've noticed that the automatic updates stop a while after doing my first backup with Titanium Backup. If i decide to restore the factory settings and recreate all my data and apps, everything's fine, but if i do a titanium backup, i won't receive any more automatic updates.
Have titanium restore market links. Long press the restored app and tell it to restore market link. That should help.

Galaxy S7 Backup

Settings -> Backup and reset
Backup my data -> Backup now.
There are 5 checks:
1. Auto backup - on
2. Clock - on
3. Messages - on
4. Phone - on
5. Settings - on
When I press the button to backup these, all are getting saved, except Settings.
It goes up to 75% and it says Backup failed.
Anyone else getting the same results ?
Same for me at 84%
Does anyone have a solution for this ?

Happened to me today, first time I used my Samsung account to backup. Everything work but settings stopped at 80% and then got a message "backup failed"
Are you guys all using the stock launcher? I didn't try it before but I am running Nova for the past couple of days. I will switch back to stock and try again and update here.
I get a home screen notification that says a network error occurred. But that sounds bogus and unlikely.
Update: nope didn't make any difference using the stock launcher.
Same. 83% then backup failed.
Tried doing a backup using Smart Switch on my PC. It started the backup then a message popped up on the phone saying "Unfortunately the backup restore has stopped". Pressed OK and Smart Switch continued the backup, and completed at 100%. Only issues were S Planner, Videos and Applications were excluded "because there is no data on the device." Also, Memo failed to backup due to an "error", and the note says "Unable to proceed with data backup."
So, a bit of a mixed bag of succeeded, excluded, and failed. The one that seems most significant looks like Applications didn't get backed up.
Somebody who matters should complain to Samsung
Backup works on my Tab S2 T813. Phone settings might be the problem. This works because it has no phone.
I was getting the same Settings backup failure, but thought perhaps it was related to having some apps disabled with EZ Disabler. Enabled everything and the backup completed successfully. Disabled unwanted apps again and the backup failed. So, for now looks like it's related to disabling apps. Anyone else?
(Note: I still got errors when trying to use the Smart Switch backup on my PC even with apps enabled, so no joy there.)
I don't have a disabler but I did disable some crap in settings. I wonder what it could be.
my disabled progs are
com.facebook.appmanager
Facebook
Google App
Hangouts
Instagram
S. Health
S. Voice App
WhatsApp
I will try enabling the S. crap and see if it works.
That's it! When I enabled S. Health and S. Voice App it worked. Sounds pretty bogus to me but there we have it.
Thanks for your comments. Can you check if you have the same issue and if it works for you?
I turned all the permissions and notifications for these two off so they can't do anything but the backup still works ok.
Fixed! Thank you @samnada
One more update. Smart Switch was failing to backup my contacts and applications. Talked to Samsung Support, eventually got resolution for both.
For contacts run the Contacts app, More > Settings > Contact to display, select Device. Mine was originally set to All contacts. In Smart Switch go to More > Preferences > Backup items, select only Contacts and re-run. Contact backup worked.
Did the same for Applications, in Smart Switch, More > Preferences > Backup items, select Applications only. Backup worked. For some reason if all the items are selected the application backup said there was no data, and no apps were backed up. Selecting it by itself backed up all applications. They've supposedly submitted a bug report, so may be fixed some day.

Gmail Doesn't show notifications (doesn't auto sync) even with Sync turned on

As title says , Gmail doesn't send any notifications when i receive Emails unless i open the app and manually refresh , which causes may issues as it's Business Mail
i tried many solutions (Dose thing using ADB , Turning all notificaions settings on , Clearing Data , Factory reset phone , Deleted Gmail using ADB and reinstalled it again via Play store) but none worked , the Gmail app isn't there in Battery optimization settings and not in auto launch settings in Color Os 12.1 (idk why , guess it's considered as system app)
Please if anyone got any idea about how to solve this issue , if i couldn't solve it then i will have to sell the Phone and i don't want to do so cuz i really like it ..
This was happening to me too, when it did I figured a workaround: go google play > Gmail, click uninstall and it will uninstall to original version of gmail comes with the patch. Now disable auto update for Gmail. clear data and cache. It works properly as long as you don't let it update again. I used it like that for a year. It just annoys you to click ignore every time you update other apps from store.
side-note: Later when I completely wiped my phone, it got working properly with the updated versions again. I think an old update brakes it while applying.
