Hi all, I just wanted to post a quick question. I'm looking to upgrade from my sad Kyocera Zio M6000 to a top of the line, best in the market, Android smart phone. I thought I was going to get the HTC Thunderbolt until I spoke with my sister who works for Verizon and she said to hold off because it's having issues right now with switching from 3G to 4G. So I wanted to check here and see what you all think right now is the best, top of the line android smart phone out there. The most powerful, can handle -ANY- games out on the market, can record HD video, has 2 way camera, all the bells and whistles and is going to last me liekly years before I even think about getting a new one. I made a mistake getting my Zio and I've been regretting it for 10 months now and I don't want to make that mistake again. I plan to play game son it, watch movies,.. everything on it .. I appreciate all your responses and thank you for your time! I post here because I want the best top of the line Android software available and was curious which one can handle the best android OS out there and will be able to run any of the upcoming versions coming out.

This is just what I think the future of Nexus Devices should be like.
There's rumors floating there's 5 so the Companies i think are worth building Nexus products are Motorola, Samsung, Htc, Asus, and Google.
The 5 devices should be like:
Motorola
I think that Motorola should make the "The DROID" Phone(yes said just like ringtone)because their hardware and radios are awesome. This should be the Developer's phone. No encrypted bootloader and built completely vanilla. OG Droid enough said.
Samsung
Samsung should continue to make the Galaxy Nexus but gear it more towards everyday "iPhone" people. All they would need to do is bring some Galaxy SIII apps and ideas to a very clean user friendly Ui.
Htc
For Htc, I think they should make the media tablet in a 7" and a 10" variety. They should get some ideas from Motorola and take some Webtop functionality to a Google TV kind of devices. Built for the Netflix lovin, Music playin, Google Q using person lol.
Asus
Asus has the right idea. Imagine using a device made like the Transformer for developing directly with the hardware. Now I don't know if this could be done by making some sort of Dual-Boot Ubuntu/Android tablet. Boot up Ubuntu. Write a Rom or Application and then flash it the the Android side. Load Android and go to town. Plus have that Transformer like ability to dock to a real keyboard with more battery and USB 3.0 ports. So you can really develop anywhere. Even during real time, real world experiences.
Dear Google,
I just wanted to say something to from the bottom of my heart.
Make a Phone please.
I mean like "you" make a phone. Build some hardware. You made a Q, a glowing Ball of media streaming goodness (wish I could afford one lol). You should definitely make a Phone. I even know exactly what it would look like, CR-48 style and all. With the addition of the LED ring from your Q. Let me know if you would like me to draw it for you lol. A Phone manufactured by Google would be Amazing. Thanks and keep up the good work

So that's what I think Google Nexus should be about. Let me know what you think below.

I want LG to make a Nexus. Their build quality is good.

Samsung and all the others have no say on the software. It is pure AOSP and will never be anything more or less. Alot of us are glad not to have all the crap from the OEM in the roms.

I would like to get a discussion going. See what others think, maybe theres some good I'm not seeing, or maybe more bad.
I like what Google does and I like their products. But they have been P***ing me off here lately with two of their products. The first one is the Nexus Q, not because of the price, but it's functionality, and when they released it... The other is the Chromecast. My reasons, I'm a GoogleTV owner. I've had my Sony Blu-ray GoogleTV since bate. Got it about 3 to 4 months after GoogleTV came out. Before the Nexus Q, GoogleTV had it's fair share of disappointments. No Hulu, which ain't the biggest deal breaker, with all the other content it does have. The Logitech being another one, then it taking so long for GoogleTV to get updated to Honeycomb. The Honeycomb update was about 9 months before Google I/O 2012, and the Nexus Q unveiling. Going into that year, at CES we seen a new batch of GoogleTV devices. It seemed like thing would start to look up for the platform. I wasn't expecting another version update at that years I/O, but maybe some more good news. Instead, we got the Nexus Q. I took it as a smack in the face. No real if any news about GoogleTV that I can remember at that years I/O. I hated it, I felt they should have gave us a Nexus GoogleTV with the Nexus Q features. Nonetheless, the Nexus Q didn't pan out. At this years CES we seen some more GoogleTV devices, and I felt at this years Google I/O they really need to do something with this platform. A new version update which they did, and I was hoping for a Nexus GooglTV/ Q hybrid which they didn't. I feel they should release a Nexus GoogleTV, I think it will help the platform. I'm glad about the update coming to GoogleTV, but can't help to think Google wasn't overly excited about the update. It seemed like they just said here, here's your stupid update. And now, they release another media device, that seems to feel like another smack in the face. And it's running a striped down version of GoogleTV source " http://blog.gtvhacker.com/ " There's rumors of another Media box coming from Google, is it a GoogleTV, or another smack in the face? Anyways the kicker, is both these devices were limited compared to GoogleTV. GoogleTV has been the redheaded stepchild of Google. It has it's potential I don't know why Google is doing so little with it. Let me know what you guys think. Do you think Chromecast will become more like GoogleTV. Do you think will see more and better things for the OG GoogleTV?
I don't really think Chromecast is headed to be an alternative or replace GoogleTV. I don't have any of them myself, but from what I've read about them, Chromecast seems like a replacement for an HDMI cable, just an easier way to transfer video and audio to your TV. Also, it makes it possible to play video from multiple devices like a tablet or computer pretty easily. The GoogleTV is a complete system that has everything contained to be able to get internet videos and movies to play on your TV, whereas Chromecast is merely a means to transfer the videos, kinda like DLNA.
It's not that I think their going to replace GoogleTV. It's more about the lack of support their giving the platform. Their entering basically the same market as the GoogleTV, with new products while ignoring another. Maybe after this update to JB I'll be more at ease. I would still like to see some hardware from Google tho...

Hi, first forgive me if i'm not allowed to post this in here, it sounded like the best spot if i'm allowed to talk about this in here
I want to switch to the enemy( somePhone 6s plus ) because of a simple reason:
playstore is forbidden in here even if i managed to use it with VPNs the large downloads are a pain, they take a day and keep going backwards and waste a lot of my data! (over 100mb) + the only android phones available right now are s6 and note 5 and lg g4 in here which I'm not going near Samsung again!
But, I've always had android phones and Don't know much about IOS, other than ugly UI and not being able to use launcher i don't see much wrong with it. Anything I'm forgetting? I don't want to buy one and regret it! and no more NFC tags
for now this is just an "idea" I have to wait 5 - 4 months for money anyway
Hi guys,
I did not find a single thread to match this question i have and so i created this thread (if a thread is available to answer my question, please redirect me and delete this thread mods ).
I recently acquired an iPad 1 with it's latest firmware being iOS 5.1.1. It is really annoying that i can't even edit a MS Word document xD (No offence but i really HATE iOS.) So i was wondering if there is anything at all i can do about it and probably, you know, install android or ubuntu or ANYTHING other than iOS? (i know it sounds stupid but this is my first iOS device that i have and i have no hell of an idea how to use, what to do with iOS or why it even exists! It is not really unbelievable for me because i used XDA on 2 of my windows phones earlier.) Any help appreciated
I think chromeOS and Linux have been successfully installed on ipads but they were more proof of concept and not really functional. If you are looking for everyday use I think you're stuck with iOS

Thanks for the heads up. In any case, all i want to do is use it for editing text documents (MS Word - .docx) and play music. Obviously it can play music so no worries. Coming to the text editor, i did try a couple apps that were compatible with 5.1.1 but it crashes instantly. Did not find a proper "fix" on google. Do you have ANY idea on how to accomplish this? for if this is done, i have no need to worry about doing anything to it. lol
Really? You are using a 6 years old device with a 6 years old OS and you say iOS sucks?
Sorry if I hurt your feelings man... I am using an age-old samsung android phone running gingerbread. I still can install ALL essential apps and use it to it's fullest. so yeah, i am using a 6 year old device running a 6 year old OS with which i cannot install a small text editor and i did say iOS sucks
I can afford a new android tablet but the thing is this was a tab used by one of my family members for quite some time and he is no more now. it serves as a memory of that wonderful man. I don't mean to offend anyone here.
@HawkEye
I know this thread is quite old, but I also just recently was given an iPad 1 and was looking for some "updates". What I came across is "Grayd00r" (https://www.grayd00r.com/), which says bringing some new life into this old device. this might be something for you.
P.S.: I agree that you not always need the newest hardware - it always depends on your personal needs what you want to do with the phone/pad/etc.
