Not sure if this is a known issue with the phone or just a problem I have been having. Occasionally, I will get people calling me or even sending me a message on Facebook because I didn't reply to their text message. Well, I never got it. I can be having a conversation with someone and all of a sudden, they don't reply. Well, they did reply but I never got it. Other times, ill get the SMS a day later. Is anyone familiar with this, or is this just an issue with my phone I should address to Verizon?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

are you rooted or non rooted?
if you are rooted, what rom are you using?
if you arent rooted, try wiping the phone, if that doesnt work, then complain to verizon to your heart's content.
Sorry, should have explained that, I am not rooted. I was really trying to avoid wiping my phone, but if I have to I will.
Is there anything I can use to backup my data? Will titanium backup work with just the user data and apps?

I rooted my Inspire about 2 weeks ago. Everything was working great until yesterday. I got a call and the other person could not hear me. Then when I tried to go online (FB, Twitter, email) it would not make a network connection. i could not even send a text message. I tried rebooting the phone, and still could not be heard by other people.
Today, same thing! What could be wrong? I'm very new to this whole rooting thing, maybe I need to put my phone back to stock? I want to be able to get rid of the AT&T fluff and use the wi-fi hotspot.
Thanks so much,
Patti

You could try wiping data and etc in recovery, then reflash the rom again. If the problem still occurs, flash a different rom

Try wiping dalvik and normal catche, it has worked for me in the past when my roms start doing weird stuff.

Actually just spoke to a co-worker that was having the same exact issue. He called Tech Support and they sent him to the ATT store for a new phone. His phone wasn't rooted and was only 2 weeks old. The guys from the store are in my building today, so I will go have a chat with them!
thanks for the help!

NY sisters captivate wont receive texts she can send them but not receive. AT&T told her to download something called kaies mini (sp) to her computer and I'm not sure she was confused explaining it. Does anybody have any clue about this?
Also is there any speculation about when the update to allow sideloading is going to come for captivate?

Samsung kies mini is to update the phones firmware. Is she still running eclair? Still not being able to receive messages shouldn't be because she is running eclair. But nonetheless the phone should be updated. Heres instructions how.

Thank you I emailed her the link and ya she is still on eclair

Glad I could be somewhat of a help. If the problem still exist I'm sure someone will come around to help you out further.
My Cappy did this twice before. The first one was fixed by pulling the battery while the phone was on. Powered back on and got flooded with all my missed texts. Second time, I had to put my SIM in another phone, got the flood, put it back and everything was normal.
Thanks I told her to try the battery trick and it didn't work and unfortunately she dont have another att phone around yo stick the Sim in so she will go to the store and try it tomorrow

she can call the carrier up and have them basically re-activate the phone. I've done this 3 times to fix the same problem.
When I had to do it, I just put the SIM in a buddy at work's P.O.S. RAZR. Worked like a charm. She must know SOMEONE who has AT&T. Just borrow theirs for a minute.

Check the "Message Centre" section on the SMS settings. When I left the country and came back it wiped this number from my phone making everything fail. Probably not the issue but might be a good idea to check.
Did you try searching?

I've had TB since march and just today I haven't been able to receive text messages. I can send, get email and make phone calls. From what I've read, this has been a problem. I guess it just caught up with me. Is there a fix? Will rooting help?
I've tried pulling the battery and sim card with no luck. I want to avoid a factory reset if at al possible. But if I have to, ill just root the damn thing. Any suggestions?
It will take 37 days to receive prem. text.

I would have suggested the battery pull. Do you plenty of memory? I think a reset may be the only way. Have you called customer service?
Going to Verizon today. If I have to do a reset, I'm going to root. Is there a safe way to root the TB without the phone ending up bricked?

What does that mean?
Ok so I had to do a factory reset and I can now again receive texts. But this is a temporary fix. According to Verizon, there is a bug or glitch in the build version 1.3. They claim they are aware of this problem and have an open ticket. Don't know when the fix will be completed.
Hi all I am having some issue with my phone. Yesterday everything was fantastic no problems whatsoever. Then all of a sudden this morning I cannot place calls or send messages. I checked my phone status in the about phone tab and noticed that my IMEI and MEID are set to all zeroes. As far as I have understood this should not be the case. I have a data connection as I can browse the web not connected to wifi. I can receive calls and messages. I have done nothing to the phone between yesterday and today other than connect it to the charger. I was running hyperdrive rls 13. Any one ever experience something like this before? Any suggestions as to how I can fix it. Thanks in advance.
I hope someone knows how to restore the imei. I've been searching and cannot find the Samsung restore app I keep reading about. I'm having a similar problem. I've got mobile data and I can do everything but make or receive calls. I even get texts. Not sure what happened to cause me to lose my imei and meid.

It's in the sticky roll up thread, but it's invisible to members. You need permission to access it. Not sure if a moderator would allow access, but it wouldn't hurt to explain what happened and see if they'll allow you to see the thread.
Additionally, you might be able to odin to an ics rom and dial a code to reprogram your phone. I don't remember what the code is, but I'm sure if you search it'll come up somewhere. If you can get it back that way, then make sure you back it up to make sure you don't run into the problem again.
Your imei is always susceptible to being lost, and nobody is quite sure why. It seems to be much more common on AOSP roms, but sometimes you can lose it without even flashing or modding anything. Just a strange quirk with our phone.

Ok so I fixed my problem. Turns out I lost my imei but somehow still had data. I did not have a back-up of my imei so I had to "reprogram" it using qpst. I flashed back to stock 4.0.4 as well.
After doing this I had the stuck in roaming problem but my imei was back. To fix this I found that the nvram could be corrupt and that and adb restore might fix it. Once I did the adb nvrestore all was well again. (I think the command was adb reboot nvrestore but can't remember atm)
Hopefully this will help someone else. Good luck

So I think they weren't working at all because my IMEI wasn't updated with AT&T when I got my replacement phone. Got that addressed.
Since then, I was able to receive old MMS, but even new ones sometimes get hung up on trying to retrieve them. exiting app and going back in doesn't fix it.
Starting the phone up again does though..
Made sure APN settings are good to go, unchecked 'mobile data' in sms settings and re-enabled within Hangouts.
I'm on stock rooted 4.4 (and franco kernel)
any idea whats going on? It seems like other people are having this problem too but I don't understand it. Thanks.
I am seeing the same issues here.. Stock play store purchased and rooted on Sprint, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, sometimes even SMS sits forever and wont send or receive until I restart the phone, trying to find someone with a Sprint purchased N5 to compare APNs with
Its almost 2014, you would think someone would be able to straighten out the massive amount of MMS issues with android phones :/ It should "just work" to the customer
I have a feeling it has something to do with Hangouts app itself..
I have issues with hangouts indefinitely, also with textra and handcent. Like OP said, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

That's interesting you're also experiencing it with other apps.
I haven't tried anything but Hangouts.
Maybe it's a Kit Kat issue? no clue.
Considering you have At&t and I have sprint, im guessing ruling out the carrier is OK.

This is true.

Interesting, i wonder what the root of the issue is since it's selectively working.
Can't be hardware, because it selectively works whereas my data and nothing else has been on the fritz, and it seems like whenever I receive errors rebooting and going back into the app it loads the ones it was hung up on. Seems like it downloads it, but just shows an error instead of displaying the MMS.
Hmmm
And I had AT&T double check the IMEI I provided them was accurate..
Hopefully it just resolves itself eventually, either the network, or a software hiccup, or whatever it is.
Because this Nexus 5 I have right now is a perfect "copy" or whatever you want to call it, a perfect build.
EDIT: I FOUND THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM!!!
adblock for me. Uninstalling didn't fix it either. Just resetting the phone (wiping everything in settings) nipped it in the bud.
It makes sense that that would be the culprit too because it requires root access, and permissions don't seem to kick in until slightly after the phone boots up initially which would coincide with mms received and sent just for those first few moments.
Good luck all, found this advice somewhere else, and so glad it's not a hardware defect as I had suspected it wasn't.

In my case MMS started working after disabling Adblock in the app itself. Then I went ahead an uninstalled. Thanks for the head up!
