HowTo overclock to 1.3Ghz (Samsung Galaxy S 4G) - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

1) SetCPU profile to 1000Mhz = temp > 43C
2) Tegrak overclock
a) load module
b) load 1100Mhz
c) Save profile in SetCPU
(REPEAT PROCESS With 1200Mhz, 1300Mhz)
Please use Set CPU and make sure to add profiles.
800 Mhz = temp > 45C (audible alarm)
1000 Mhz = temp > 43C
1100 Mhz = temp > 40C
1200 Mhz = temp > 35C
1300 Mhz = temp > 30C
My FLOPS in the stress test went from 12 to 16
Now I am able to watch Jimmy Fallon Live and probably Jersey Shore
Those Adobe Flash videos were too heavy for my 1000 Mhz processor
with 1200 Mhz, I'm happy to say the video runs nice.
a few FPS drops here and there, but hey, it's 100 watchable now

I've read that a program called tegrak overclock can allow you to overclock, but from what I know unless you have an overclocked kernel, you can't overclock
I would like to know if there is a future with this phone.
Currently there are only 2 ROMs working (one of them, the author closed the thread)
I've spent at least one month fixing all the issues of this phone, and by the looks of it it's not quite popular here in USA
I will appreciate responses, since I know that overclocking can give a HUGE boost of speed.
I am thinking in returning my phone and hopefully getting the LG 2GX (Optimus 2X)
Has anybody overclocked their Samsung Galaxy S 4G?

In the defence of the person who built the ROM your talking about, he did not close the thread... a moderator did.
overclocking is currently not an option for this device and only time will tell if it will be.
as for ROMs, Krylon360 of Team Whiskey will be developing more ROMs soon as he is waiting on getting a device to work with.
the LG looks to be a good device... has many features that are better than the sgs4g so i would think its a decent switch. but for me im waiting for july... the HTC and sgsII will be be out by that time and I can choose the cream of the crop.

Any idea when it will be released?
And what price it will have?
If the phone costs around $600, I would buy it
Anything over it I'd guess it's overpriced.
the one thing that I DO NOT LIKE about the Galaxy S 4G is the lack of Flash for the camera
I'd say for a $500 device adding a $10 flash somewhere in the phone would be a good idea

worked great..quadrant score went up also..seems alot faster..thanks alot! this shouldnt do no harm to the phone right? im new to this kind of stuff so kinda nervous.

i just flashed mine to v2.2 and did the quardrant score and it went down .. did i do something wrong? did u delete the bloatware? running anything else?

As long as u watch out for the temperatures you should be fine
Even if I break the unit I still have warranty on this
Plus I'll be returning this phone anyway
I'll test Quadrant right now

When setting Profiles,
Do you have all of them default to "Charging"?
For scaling do you have them default to "Conservative"?
Do you leave all the Min at default 100000?
Do you leave all the priorities set at default 50?

This wont work due to there is no kernel that allows OC yet for the SGS4G. Ill work on building one after i get CWM and Black Ice going for the device.

It seems to work and it's also listed as supported on the list of devices in the market. I've only used Quadrant standard so far and was getting higher benchmarks.
On another note. Can't wait to get my TW fix when you get Black Ice working on our phones.

Can you upload the presets so I can just load it please ans thanks

A few comments.
1) Some SG4G's don't like 1.3 gig. I'm finding that at 1.2 gig at a high and 200 meg at the low, it's the most stable...at least for my particular unit. Your mileage may vary.
2) I'm using the "Temp >" profiles for all the settings.
3) I suspect that the reason for why it's wonky for some and works great for others is due to the fact that there isn't a true overclock kernel for it. We're taking potluck as to whether it works or not.
-Steve

I would take a word of advice from Krylon. The Kernel that is on our phones is not set up for this to work correctly. The app may support our phone but, our kernel doesn't yet.
I wouldn't recommend doing this. Wait for a compatible Kernel. It will happen but when your phone gets hotter than it was meant to, things on the mother board get loose and you have a very expensive paper weight.
Secondly, quad scores aren't that accurate. Meaning a single piece of code can tell the quadrant app to read higher than its actually running. The phone may run a little faster but its not what it will be with VooDoo lagfix.
This phone should get a true quad score in the mid 900's stock. With the right kernel, and voodoo lag fix (ext4) this phone should get around 1750-1850. That is without overclocking at all. it will have better battery and you won't overheat your phone .

I thought that Voodoo lagfix wasn't applicable in the SG4G because of the fact that the SG4G doesn't use an abnormal file structure. Or am I wrong?

I think the only real speed difference is with the browser. My vibrant / and sgs 4g get similar quad scores when the vibrant has voodoo disabled.

Whats your CPU Profiles!

So I have...
My G2x Is running at 1gz\.4 I don't find a need to OV it...
The UV is set at -50 at 1gz and at 800 it is -100 and at 500 and 400 at -200mv.
What are your sets? I would like to see other people's choices. I will report on my battery life later. I can't today since I have been going into recovery mode all morning.
Ps. As profiles go...
I have screen off set to 800/400. I don't like it lagging when i turn my screen on.
I can run stress test easily with my settings. No hiccups or anything.
EDIT:
So I was asked what kernel I'm using... I will post my ROM + KErnel! and just to let you know, my G2x has never had any problems so that may be way my G2x can get -200 on 500 and 400

How are you not getting reboot problems with 400 at -200mv? I'm using faux's froyo kernel and when I undervolt at -100mv i get rebooting problems

My chip could only use faux's OC 1.2ghz, using the kernel OC 1.5 would cause my phone to boot loop. I could go stable @ faux OC 1.2 with minimum UV, getting qudrant score of atleast 3000 - 3500. Another kernel that i tried is MOrfic's, I can go stable up to 1.4 Ghz/minimum UV- quadrant of atleast 4000-4300. I believe i have what they say as the "weak chip" though running OC @ 1.4 ghz doesn't make it look weak. Thanks to the great DevS!

Inspire Question

What I am wondering and before you attack me I did research this and couldn't find anything specific to the Inspire. I want to know generally what is a good speed to underclock the inspire to achieve maximum batter and before you say every device is different I'm asking for a general idea not a specific one. Also do you think that overclocking has a big impact on batter I am overclocking right now at 1.3 ghz do you think that I'll notice a difference. And I know I have to test it myself but I just want others opinion on it.
I have the same question.
FWIW, I run the OnDemand Governor and underclock at 883200 (245000 min) and don't notice a slowdown in any apps I run except angry birds (I ramp it up to 1.2 to play that). I haven't run any benchmarks or anything to see how it might improve the battery, since I really don't need to worry about it. It goes on the charger every night and I've never seen it below 50% when I plug it in.
I've been running a relatively stock DesireHD Gingerbread ROM based on the Asian WWE GB (2.37.707.3) but as of yesterday, I've been running one based on the telus GB released a few days ago (2.43.661.1). My kernel is custom based on stock HTC source for the 2.6.35.10 with OC/UV support added as hacked from the LeeDroid kernel tree. My source is here:

I'm running at my rom's default (1017mhz). Instead of underclocking, I use the conservative governor. Battery life is good, but I also haven't noticed a battery drain when overclocking (I've been up to 1228mhz). I didn't test/run it for an extended period of time (1 day), but I only noticed a slight bump in performance.
I've heard of people on my rom (GingerBeast), clocking down to 768mhz without noticeable slowdown. As you stated, it just depends on the rom.
I have my phone set at:
Max: 768000
Min: 230000
This works for me in literally all the situations.

I hope my response wasn't considered rude, but the question really is too vague to answer. If there were some magic combination of OC/UV that worked for everyone, everyone would be using it.
They say that if you ask five New Yorkers their stance on an issue, you'll get six different opinions. Similarly, five smart phone users probably have six different opinions about the best setup for their device and none will be applicable to your situation.
Yea but I wasn't asking for the perfect combination out just wanted to know what others use to get an idea of what I should set it at but clearly you don't get that

[Q] what is a safe overclock speed +temp?

well I just got my xoom and its overclockable to like 1.6ghz but I wannna make sure my device life won't go down, also what are good temps what should I try to keep the temperature under. Simply what temps are you guys getting
Thanks guys
Most people stay under 1.7 ghz because the processor becomes unstable (rebooting, freezing up, etc.). There has been zooms that don't overclock very well above 1.5 ghz so you will have to play with it and see what works well for you. If you get freezing, and rebooting then just dial it back until you get the sweet spot. As far as temp, unless you are a extreme power use you should not see temp's 100 degrees, I am a power user and rarely get above 98 degrees. Hope this helps?

temps are VERY cool for my tab... honestly it is astounding... my phone gets way hotter

Another thing to check is your governor and wht is is set to (interactive, userspace, proformance, etc) if you have it set to proformance, you're gov will keep you at 1.6 all the time and could cause heat issues. Download a app called android system info (free in the market) and check your CPU info. I have provided a screenshot of what it looks like.
As you can see I'm at 1.2ghz only 21% of the time and 216, 58%.

use the tiamat settings. I dont have my xoom in front of me but i keep it set on "on demand" i think. You xoom is running hot. I would lower it OC until you find the sweet spot for your heat issue. I think your xoom will run fine but you will start to kill the "life" of the xoom IMO.

I think the reason he is running hot is do to his governor settings, when I first started playing with overclocking I noticed my xoom would run hotter when I would increase the preformance. But I agree if he is running 90 to 100 degrees regularly, there is a problem somewhere.

It's not really a race...the cpu is only rated to 1GH so anything you can squeeze out above that and still remain stable is gravy, don't you think? In Xoom as in life--YMMV.

[Q] A question about overclocking

Hi,
having registered here some time ago i've been reading many threads about custom ROMs and the kernels used. Many of them seem to support overclocking your phones CPU. The thing i'm wondering about is that there's kernels which actually overclock your CPU to double the speed its CPU is supposed to be running on (!!), giving the CPU some more voltage i believe.
Actually i'm a bit sceptical about how setting the CPU to such sick frequencies has a bad effect on the CPU's lifetime. The way i understood the problem with clocking the CPU high is always the heat development, meaning without proper cooling the CPU will simply "melt away" (at least that's how it is on desktop computers). Of course, CPU's on smartphones are not cooled or anything. Now that there seem to be many people here, developpers or not, who got deeper into the hardware, probably already opened up a phone, or have some experience with the long term consequences of overclocking.
So my final question is: What is safe and what is not? I saw for the Galaxy 3 for example exist different kernels, some non-overlock kernels, as some kernels only doing limited overclocking up to 800 MHz (which seems to be the most healthy option to me), but also some kernels overclocking up to 1300 MHz, which as i said seems kinda sick to me. Well i bet there's someone out there with a bit more experience than me regarding this so i'd be thankful for any answer.
I believe its safe as long as you dont keep the phone at high overclocked spds all the time. Besides, this chips are designed to last 5 years at least so if you overclock and shorten its life, you would have already changed your phone. In short, dont worry, just dont leave your phone at above 1000mhz all the time

You got a point there hehe. Technical progress is moving in light speed. Anyway, i want to make my phone last as long as possible of course. But it's true, with CPU stepping it won't run on the highest frequency the whole time, even if overclocked, so i guess that overheating won't be an issue.
The only time i overclock is when im playing 3d games. Other times mine is 700mhz at most

No.. 800mhz should be your main profile. When charging i put 1200mhz 300mhz on demand. You shouldnt always leave it at 1200mhz. Only when you need it

if you use a governor like OnDemand/Conservative, your phone wont always be on 1200 but usually on the lower values...It will go only to 1200 when needed

We can't tell you not all phones are the same, uv a little (10 or 25) run it for a day or two see how it acts, if its steady, uv a little more, when it starts acting up thats your limit go back to previous settings.
NVIDIA NEVER AGAIN!

I've seen some general advice not to UV for anything over 1ghz speeds as well, but it may not hurt to try if you want and adjust as needed for stability.
I'm running on a -75mv at 1.5Ghz faux kernel 0.4.7..
Perfectly stable, benchmarked AnTuTu, Quadrant, and all those other good stuff.
I have not tried -100mv yet, I doubt it will be stable.
Every phone is different, but I run mine at -20 up to 1 G, and -10 for the rest.
Mine I cant undervolt shoot I have to keep my minimum frequency at 500 to be stable, course I can also run at 1.5 all day (I keep it at 1.2).
Well I guess I can't say I cant UV since I use pimp my cpu and it only gives you options in 25 increments, maybe I would be stable at like -10. But coming from my galaxy s 4g where I could UV over -150 and still be stable, that just doesnt even sound worth doing.
Edit: I just thought about it and maybe the reason I cant UV (more) is because I'm using fauxs pre UV/OC kernel, so I dont even know what stock voltage is. But comparing to my sgs4g at stock voltage I am running considerably lower voltages on the g2x.
The faux thread says it's pre uv at -50 across the board.
