[Q] Any way to enable the SD Card Slot on a Rooted Xoom 3G? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any one have a hack or something to make this stupid reader work? It looks silly with the Clear one in there.

Wrong section and no the sd card has not been enabled search before posting

My bad and damn... hopefully soon.

yea not having the sd card and source code is really slowing down xoom development

Yeah I bet it does... I tried searching before I posted and didn't see another thread about this.

Source code is not out but there is an kernal OC already how is this?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App

I'm going to guess it's because the kernel is hardware specific and applicable to the bios. (?)

from a quick skim of kernel, has anyone enabled the sdhc on platform driver

That's my thought too. Regardless of whether honeycomb handles an sdcard, the kernel ought to be able to see the card. I'm assuming the driver currently isn't compiled in, since the kernel completely ignores the slot.
I haven't had time to build my own kernel yet, but that's one of the first things I want to try.
-Jim

I checked out the kernel configuration and, from my recollection, it does build with support for SDHC out of the box. This leads me to believe that our firmware doesn't currently report the sd card hardware to the OS for it to even see.
You can confirm this by seeing that the internal storage is actually mounted using SDHC modules, although I don't remember exactly where to look.

[Q] Problem with mounting SD card and Internal SD

Hey guys, just recently got a G2x coming from a MT4G.
I'm on the latest CM7 nightly and for some reason I'm having a big problem getting both of my SD card and internal memory to mount. I know I have the drivers installed as I had to do so to be able to root the phone.
I plus the phone into the comp via USB and my computer doesn't read anything.
Even when I go to the latest CWM recovery (5.0.2.6) and go to Advanced and mount my USB through there it still doesn't read it.
Any reason why this is doing this?
I mounted it fine when I was on stock ROM yesterday, but having no luck mounting it now.
Any response would be greatly appreciated!
Are you using the same USB cable? Same USB port as the one that worked yesterday?

Thanks for the response.
Yes I'm using the same cable and the same USB port as yesterday. I'm dumbfounded
I know fauxs aosp rom doesn't have this problem and I think it should mount both sdcards on recovery mount storage, not too sure if it will mount internal SD on latest nightly while phone is on with debugging.

Yeah I tried it while debugging was on and off and no luck. So I just gave up and flashed WeaponG2x and it worked perfectly.... Now I just tried EaglesBlood and it still won't work!
This is so frustrating... I'm loving the phone so far but this is killing me.

Yea I hear ya, I hate how they partition these phones internal storage. Pretty much everyone that has or uses an android smartphone prefers to buy a much larger external microsd card, be it anywhere from 4-32gb. I'd rather they not partition storage and let us use that space for installing apps/games on internal then put our music or movies/media on external sdcard.
Plus issues like these where USB drivers wont detect the internal/external sdcards is very annoying and confusing when coming from a phone like we had.

Yeah seriously. I've never had this problem with any other phone. You think it's a driver problem that it works on stock based ROM's but not on CM7 based?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Yep exactly, very poor driver support from LG, read up on it on the general section and even here on q/a threads, there's tons of people that have had these issues.
Could have been avoided too if LG wouldn't have messed with the internal storage I bet.

How irritating, I guess I'm forced to use WeaponG2x...
My phone still does this crap even on cm7 and fauxs aosp rom too. Its very annoying and even tho I love the phone tons im still looking forward to a new device.

Thanks I flashed the wrong gapps lol figured it out AFTER i had posted
On another note, sd card mount is working in eaglesblood, any way it can be added manually to HFS 1.5?? I would think so right since they are both ICS??

I don't know I'm sure there is a code in the mnt some where I don't use internal memory what so ever, so I don't know.... if you need internal memory and can't figure it out on your own, go back to a rom you are comfortable with.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Its not the internal memory I would like to mount. In ICS you can only mount your device using MTP or PTP. No third option to mount sd card as a mass storage device like other android versions. the newest version of EB supposedly has this. Just though I would incorporate it into the version of HFS I am running..just a though not a dev so I'd probably end up bricking my phone in the proccess LOL

Okay got ya, ya I never messed with it when ever I flashed the rom I'd mount during cwm and copy anything I wanted. Search the market I think there are plenty of 3rd party apps

Yeah I thought so but hopefully the devs that work on HFS put this on the next version because I actually enoy HFS better than EB. Thanks for the input fellas I really appreciate it.

its pretty much a eaglesblood thing its part of the rom and kernel... so with that you cant even flash different kernels or it breaks the mod
Really?? That kinda sucks. Well I was just wondering. I'm running HFS 1.5 and I'm happy. Maybe later I will try EB..

Not sure what you are asking sir, I have installed these, which means I have either tested or ran the ROMs in the Dev. as far as sd card issues, there is none, now for CM9, the mount is different than Gingerbread...EMMC which means: Embedded Multi Media Card, vice the GB "ext SD" label.

the laptop does see the phone units, the problem is that it shows the wrong way .. shows the phone's internal storage like a removable card (SD)

[REQ] Can someone build Boot Manager for our phone from source?

Is someone willing to build Boot Manager from the source Team Init2winit released? I would, but I don't have the skills to do so. I wasn't sure if this request went here or the Q&A, so feel free to move the thread if necessary. The source is here. Thanks!
I was so bummed when I found out it doesn't work with this phone. I bought a class 10 SD card just for this reason (oh well, now I'm stuck with a decent SD card ). Nice to see source released for this; I'm definitely not your guy to build it, but I second your request. I'll donate to that cause any day...

Actually, before the source was released, they had started work in the SGSIII. In fact, the source was edited to remove the GS3.txt file which included all that was needed for S3. I can uncommit the file and then upload it here in the OP if it'll help anyone.
EDIT: Nevermind, I'll just copy and paste everything since I can't actually uncommit it. I'm still getting used to Github lol

[Solved] Swap internal memory with SD on OmniROM

As the title says I'm trying to swap the phones internal memory with my 32gb Sd card but I can't figure how to do it. I tried the methods from stock ROM and CM but neither worked. If anyone can help here out would be much appreciated.

No, because Omni is 2 months old (not just for our phone, it was made 2 months ago in general). Maybe some of expirienced devs can tell you, but ones who are not that expirenced can't explain you how to do it.
By the way, did you try with some methods that works on CM 10.2?
Well I don't really know how to do it. I tried this (it worked in CM) in build.prop and it didn't work in Omni.
persist.sys.vold.switchexternal=1
ro.vold.switchablepair=/storage/sdcard0,/storage/sdcard1
I will try to search around some more but I doubt I can find the solution.

Open storage folder in system folder of root. And see if names are sdcard0/1. Maybe on Omni it is changed...
They are exactly like that.

Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426804
By that, you cannot do anything... Unless you implement it in kernel.
P.S. And definitely from some other post:
Kernel for switching internal & external SD
Because vold.fstab is no longer used and has been integrated in fstab.aries (which can only be changed before compiling the kernel, as it ends up in the ramdisk), I made a special kernel version with switched SD cards.

Guess that means I'm going back to a lower android because I doubt our devs will modify the kernel at this stage just for this since they have more important stuff. Thank you very much for that.
Sent from my GT-I9070 using Tapatalk
I guess you can do it by an init.d script, re mounting partitions as you want after boot
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda app-developers app
Well I probably have no clue how to do that but I'll dig around. I'm just glad there might be a chance for swap to work.
Edit: Well I managed to solve my storage problem in some other way. Will share here if some other people need this. I used FolderMount app from playstore for all my large games. Free version only supports 3 folder mounts (that means 3 large games/apps etc) but I already bought the paid version, that unlocks everything, since it really solves all my issues. I can now stay happy on OmniROM!
