Hi,
I'm not sure which section of to put this thread in, but anyways. I was at AT&T buying some screen protectors for my captivate and the salesperson told me that 2.3 is coming in a few months for the captivate. I hope this will answer some questions. Hopefully the salesperson wasn't lying. But this is good new!!! PS there is the same post in the Q&A section that I accidently posted. I meant to post in the General section.

You couldn't have said it any better wonner, I will never believe anything any AT&T reps have to say.
AT&T sales people are extremely knowledgeable and always right.

So they're saying Anroid 2.3 will come out in 2013? Great!

Are you sure he said that last "for the captivate" part? I'm sure what he meant was "we'll eventually have a phone with android 2.3. It won't be the captivate, I'm just telling you now so you get your wallet ready."
My friend works for rogers up here in canada and he was saying the same thing about gingerbread. hopefully it is sometime soon within a couple of months.
Who cares where it comes from. If there's official 2.3.3 out somewhere, devs here will get their hands on it.
I'm with you

Would I like to see official 2.3 sure, but either way I'll end up running g-bread

We will see. I wouldn't say give up all hope that 2.3 will ever get to us... but based on past history... don't hold your breath. Also, my experience with AT&T reps is there are a few that have a clue on Android and they are like us. coming to XDA and various blogs for their info. I don't think AT&T gives them official anything.

Maybe now everyone will stop flooding the forums with speculation posts for the next few days of september. Cuz honestly, if galaxy s doesn't get froyo until october, I highly doubt their u.s. counterparts will get them before.

Nope, nothing definite yet. You'll know it is getting close when you see a leaked ROM come up as a story on the tech sites, as you see with most other phones who get their updated ROMs leaked.

I hear ya on that! A leaked ROM would tell me that it is in the pipeline and would be released in a couple, or a few months afterwards. After seeing all the other HTC phones get leaks of gingerbread, (Evo, Evo Shift, Desire, Desire HD, and Thunderbolt), getting official announcements, or actually receiving the updates, I'm wondering where our leak is. I'm not complaining, just would like to see a leak soon to know it is coming. I just would like us to get word of a leaked ROM, preferably before they officially announce the rumored Holiday. Especially since the Holiday is gonna be my next phone after I hit my upgrade.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
There was a leaked ROM for the unbranded DHD a weeks or so ago. Surprised I haven't seen any ROMs based on it yet. I've been running it for a week or so and it seems super stable.

Agreed that it is a good phone. But the big selling point for the T-Bolt was it's 4G capibility. But yes, I'd get something 3G, dual core.
Just throwing it out there to see if anyone is interested.

Wow... Deja Vu...
I JUST did this a few weeks ago... I actually sold it here on the XDA forum. I bought the DX2... Although I really liked the Dx2 I missed some of the features of the Tbolt. After only a could of weeks I sold the X2 and got another Tbolt...
Long story short... You'll likely miss the Tbolt

considering verizon only offers 1 dual core phone, that from what I've read has been disappointing...
Does the x2 even have gingerbread yet? Android doesn't use the dual core processor properly in froyo.

when captivate user will get icecream sandwick update.will it be this year or next year or we will not get that update at all
Captivate will not get ICS at all. Gingerbread will be the end of the line for captivate.
not necessarily
it will never see a official captivate release
but an ICS port would not surprise me.

I don't have a link readily available, but there was recently an official announcement that basically said most if not all Gingerbread phones will get ICS.
Edit: That being said, I have no doubt there will be an unofficial version well before any official release. Particularly if you're waiting on your carrier to release it.
Edit #2: found one: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...es/nexus-s-set-for-android-4-0-update-1034855
I'd be shocked if AT&T and Samsung released 4.0 for a phone that has been on the market already for ~15 months. I think our best bet will be a port from the Nexus S or CyanogenMod
Im pretty sure the announcement meant only phones that shipped with gingerbread on them.
CM9 will be just fine for me.

I already have a thread on this, the Latest Glitch kernel works with this!
So, I have just acquired a new victim, an acquaintance's old Charge. It's pretty...shall we say...stressed? The chassis is quite beat up but the phone itself still works fine. What should I do with it? Anything short of any damage to the device. I'll even send it to a developer assuming they want it...

I would much rather it go to someone else... but if no one else will take you up on it I would be interested. My son has been... well, less than friendly to the charge in its now-wifi-toy status and I find myself having issues maintaining the usb connection for odin/pc/anything as a result. I have been trying to odin back to ep4d for the last few hours... I THINK I got it now - made it farther than any time before anyway lol.
Anyhoo - I suppose consider me a default case if you are really interested...? As an alternative, you could always use it to try and tinker yourself... I don't know if you've noticed but there aren't too many cooks left in this kitchen
Well, considering I couldn't even understand how to compile kernel source, I don't think I'm the one to be tinkering...
Anyhow, I'll send it to any developer who's interested. My only request is that I get it back to me upon release of the Galaxy SIV, as I'll be selling all the devices I have to get some pocket change for college.

To be fair... neither can I
As far as my interests in your extra phone go, I think I will wait and see if any other takers arise for this - I would much rather get some other people involved.
Well, this thread is open. Anyone who wants to try their hand, post in this thread and we'll take a vote. I talked to imnuts a couple of months ago about this (I knew I was going to get the device, just didn't know when) and he said he was too busy to do any dev work, through I don't know if that still holds true.
Anyone who wants the Charge for development purposes, post ITT.
