I just finally got my mez on 2.2 last night running EC10 Pnp v0.3, the problem as I see it anyways is that everytime that I boot into recovery I have to apply update.zip, I thought that once the custom rom was flashed I wouldn't have to do this anymore. Also in the voodoo menu it says
Voodoo lagfix is actually: disabled
I have read that it is just something wrong with the cwm that reports it that way, as long as it says Next boot: enabled everything should be fine. Well mine dosen't no matter what I do it says next boot: disabled. If someone could point me in the right direction to make sure it is working correctly I would greatly appreciate it.
What I actually see on the screen under the Voodoo lagfix menu options are
E:Missing bitmap progress_empty
(Code -1)
E:Missing bitmap progress_fill
(Code -1)
CwM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v2.5.1.x
Voodoo lagfix is actually: disabled
next boot : disabled
Options:
/system lagfix conversion: no
debug mode : no
Also slightly off topic but the rom I installed was ec10 but my system firmware says ea11 is that right?
So I flashed ec10-vlu-voodoo.zip and now I have the messed up boot screen so I know that the kernel is right plus I have quadrant scores around 1600 but it still says lag fix disabled on next boot so can anyone tell me if it is working and maybe it is just being reported wrong or what?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
If your getting that quadrant score you must have lagfix enabled. Everytime you go into recovery it will show disabled and on next boot it will be enabled, if it doesn't click on enable lagfix.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Ok like I said it says disabled on next boot but I guess I'm ok. Any idea how to make it do that I don't have to apply the update.zip file each time to get to the red recovery?

I have never had to flas the update zip more than once I dont see where the problem lies

Did you apply cwm_froyo.tar with Odin? Thats how I got mine to work right, flashed cwm_froyo.tar (actually switched to the new one, cwm-recovery-all.tar) in Odin, then booted to recovery, applied update.zip, and haven't had to do the update.zip again.
Here is the xda page on the new recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
I never actually got it working right with ec10 but as soon as I put miui on it everything began working perfect until I had so many missed messages so I went to ASOP and now everything is amazing plus I'm getting quadrant scores over 2000 w/o oc' ing!

Here you go guys.
This kernel will allow you to use CM6 w/ ext4.
Basic instructions:
Flash back to a normal DK28 rom,
Follow all steps here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890494
EXCEPT, flash this kernel at the end, after flashing Cyanogen Mod: http://efragtv.com/android/CM6-DUALFS-v1.1.zip
This also fixes wifi, and su.
NOTE: Everytime you flash CM6 (To update to a new nightly, or whatever reason) YOU HAVE TO REFLASH THE KERNEL!! CM6 installs its own kernel.
iam confused...do u have to flash to stock..then do the ext4 then flash cm6...then the kernel or wat
Just as you said.

This new version fixes lpm battery charging freeze.

This combination absolutely FLYS!!
Consistently score in the 2300 range in quadrant (yeah yeah I know), but the whole phone just feels snappier too.
For some reason my 3g doesn't seem to work, so I won't be keeping it (tired of not receiving mms too, so that's as good of an excuse to try out Quantum as any).
Great work Dameon87! Hopefully the cmsgs team implements this in as standard in the future!

Was there any reason Samsung used RFS in the first place? Is there no downside in using ext4? I usually use ext3/4 when given the choice on a desktop Linux installation, but just wondering if there's something I'm missing here.

1) its their proprietary file system
2) ext4 was not made for flash memory..thus will reduce the lifespan of your NAND memory..don't panic though it'll still last a few years...just not as long as it would with RFS...
Mostly 1...
Just for curosity do you have any links for actual half life of data on flash memory, would be a great resource if you did.

So, I've been running Quantum ROM 2.5 with ext4.
Can we flash this and CM6 without going back to stock DK28 and running the bat file?
In case I don't catch you...
You forgot root in the kernel. So, here I am, super fast ROM, and no root access. Oh, and it took three tries:
1st - Formatted everything, couldn't remount anything
2nd - For some reason, 2.5.1.2 recovery just vanished, couldn't boot, house caught fire. Blah.
3rd - Smooth. Everything seems to be going well. Except root.
k thx bai
Yea Clockwork 2.5.1.2 disappears on its own for some reason. Once you have ext4 installed and 2.5.1.2 disappears you're screwed. 2.5.1.0 can't flash, back-up, or restore anything it seems.
i havent tried this with cm6, but the issue with 2.5.1.2 "disappearing," it might actually still be there. in 2.5.1.0, go to advanced > reboot recovery. you might get 2.5.1.2, i'm not sure where it installed, but ROM manager reboot to recovery foes to 2.5.1.0 but adb reboot recovery and reboot recovery from 2.5.1.0 brings up 2.5.1.2.
Is this kernel clockable

Hello,
I'm a new poster here, but a long time lurker... Anyway I'm having a problem.
I just rooted and flashed the Heinz57 rom, got everything set up the way I want it. I booted into recovery to do a back up and it says "Error while backing up Boot Image." Yes, I've disabled lagfix. USCC Mesmerize, btw.
What is this error and how do I fix it?
CwM 3.x, fyi.
Thank you for any help!
Do you have lagfix enabled? If so, try disabling it in CWM, reboot, and try backing up.
Ha! Just edited the OP!
I have it disabled everytime I try to back it up. No luck.
But have you disabled it and rebooted your phone to actually let it convert the file system back?
I disable, reboot, let it do its thing and when it's done, go back into recovery. Try to backup, it gives me the error.

No you don't...I just tried making a nand this morning and am having this same issue, had to odin 2.5 recovery to make a nand. never mind my last post, I reflashed the OTB 1.3 TW kernel and everything is back to normal with that recovery...making a cwm3 nand now.
So it's a problem with Heinz? Or am I reading that wrong?

I wanna say its something with the recovery and whatever kernel you've got going, specifically. Wish I knew more.

Why r y'all disabling lagfix? Ive not been disabling and my backups r restoring just fine. I vaguely remember that disabling was recommended at some point but thought it was on cwm2.5 so when we got 3.0 I tried not disabling and been good so far on every Rom I've flashed.

If you leave it enabled and end up with a bad Rom flash that forces you to have to use Odin you can end up with a lot of issues.
I will try to keep this simple. I was on Altered Beast with the peanut butter jelly kernel. I wanted to get the EE4 update. I disabled lagfix, odin back to E1 and accepted the EE4 UPDATE.
I then flashed the new clock work recovery (the yellow one). I was able to get Gummy Rom installed and running. I went to try to enable voodoo lagfix inside clockwork and it won't re-enable. The weird thing is, I'm getting really high quadrant scores like I am lagfixed. I tried deleting the disable lagfiz file inside the Voodoo folder on my SD card. That file is gone now, but I still can't enable voodoo. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gummy rom doesn't have a kernel. Flash pb and j kernel with CWM.

My phone says that my kernel is :2.6.32.9 imnuts virtualbox #1. Using the new clockwork mod I still can't enable the voodoo lagfix. It shows as disabled in the clock work menu. Selecting the enable option make it go through the process but doesn't actually change anything.

I had a similar problem (problem with disabling it). If you are checking CWM Recovery and think Voodoo Lagfix is off because your font is yellow, then check ADB if Voodoo is enabled or disabled.
I know enabled, font should be red. Disabled font should be yellow. But I know I have voodoo enabled but my phone in Recovery is still yellow.
So check via adb.
I am guessing from my quadrant scores that I have the lagfix working (1584} but it still says disabled in the clock work menu.

Hello everyone -
I installed the GAS EC10 PNP based rom through CWM after clearing my Dalvik cache. Now my home screen button doesn't work, my search key doesn't work, and I cannot download anything from the market (just says "starting download").
What should I try next? I can go back to Heinz 57 but I was looking for something FAST and my Task Killer still had me running at <130MB on H57 as installed.
Appreciate it. And check it out: this is my FIRST post EVER!
Happy first post! As for your problem have you tried a reflashed of that rom? Also did you do the prerequisite data wiping? And a note about your task killer and the memory being used....Android leaves applications in the ram even when not in use so they start up faster. That will not make a big difference in the speed of your phone. What will is your kernel, processor speed and what type of file system you are on. (rfs-stock, ext4-voodoo, mtd-latest aosp file system) Have you tried a voodoo kernel with lagfix enabled? Or one of nemesis's kernels that you can overclock?

Thanks for the feedback!
I have now flashed 3 ROM's and I am kind of freaking out because the home softkey and the search softkey no longer work in the ROM's. through CWM, I ran a "keytest" and they all gave me numbers so they did seem to work (whether or not the numbers were correct, I don't know).
Re: your comments on the speed and kernel, etc: I don't know! I followed this newbie guide and in my CWM it says "CwM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery". Does that imply I have the voodoo kernel? Is the lagfix enabled by default or do I need to do that as well?
ANY help would really be appreciated! I am hoping I don't need to flash back to the USCellular standard and take my phone into the store for service...

That doesn't mean anything necessarily. How the phone is actually running for you is what to pay attention to. RAM numbers can be misleading.

The text doesn't mean anything, they all say Voodoo Lagfix Recovery. To check if lagfix is enable just go to the Voodoo portion of recovery and it should show some text at the bottom saying if lagfix is enabled. And no it is not enabled by default. You would know if it was enabled because the phone will take a good 5 minutes or so to boot up during the initial filesystem conversion and the voodoo lady talks you through the process. You'd know if it happened.
Ok well this past Saturday I spent atleast 7 hours flasing this phone and trying different combinations of kg4 leak and kg6 leak. I would just like to share some results ive had with mixing the two.
First flash in Odin:
I used the entire kg4 leak except I swapped the pda kg4 file for the kg6 leak. That resulted in being stuck in 3e recovery and trying to reboot brought alot of cache and data errors.
Second flash with Odin:
Flashed kg4 leak with all files. rooted using Odin with fugumod. In the end it said I was rooted but I never found the su binary. Flased drhonks kernel ontop of that and still no su binary but root check says im rooted. Also tried to get Linda to talk on this try but didnt hear a thing. Had sdcard unavailable error aswell. Dissappearing apps on reboot.
Third flash in cwm:
So I flashed kg6 deodexed and before rebooting I flased drhonks modded kg4 cwm kernel, checked mounts reboot. Installed busybox 1.19 and tried to convert to ext4 and got sdcard full issue. Back to Odin
Fourth flash in Odin:
Kg6 leak and drhonks kernel. Same errors as before with Linda and the sdcard issue.
Ok lots more flashes but ill gat to the one that got me stable.
Final flash with Odin:
Flashed kg4 leak let it bootup and didnt setup anything and immediately turned it back off. Odined kg6 leak with csc file from kg4, let it boot and again did nothing but tirn it back off and back into down load mode. Flashed fugumod for root let it boot up and off again and then flashed drhonks kernel. Booted up and finally did the setup, went to the market amd searched for superuser, there was an update so I got it along with voodoo control app. Made sure voodoo lagfix was disabled in app. Booted into cwm turned lagfix on. Linda did her thing in no time flat. It booted up and all my apps were still there(root check; titanium backup;ect) all seems great. Still cant fiNed the su binary but to hell with it this thing is smooth battery life is great and I swear there been sound improvment in the rear speaker.
So all in all im satified with my gingerbread experience. Had a lot of fun flashing and trying different things some work half ass and some not at all. So tell us how has it been for you?

This has been a very trying experience in getting GB working properly, but not that I have KG6 ICBINB working with the new S99partition mounts pushed, I am loving my phone again. Pulling 2400 Quad without OC. Formatting the SD card and eliminating an old ext4 partition from froyo was really all that I needed to do.
That said, there are some minor issues that still haven't been resolved. I am also seeing very week wifi signal. KD1 was very strong, but now unless I am in the room with the wireless it's almost doesn't even register.
The other issue I had was the phone would go into reboot madness if I had wifi on. I think it was the wifi calling feature causing the mayhem. The only way I was able to use wifi without it constantly rebooting was to Freeze wifi calling in TB. As soon as I froze wifi calling it worked flawlessly with wifi enabled or disbled. If anyone has a fix for the wifi issue I would greatly appreciate it.

This was the first time I installed a custom ROM. I jumped into this a few minutes after the ICBINB ROM was posted so there were no clear instructions and I didn't take the time to read enough. I skipped steps 2-4. So I learned how to use ODIN and how to get into download mode by taking out the battery and holding the volume buttons.
Everything works great no reboots, WIFI calling works great and my Quadrant scores are high (2400+).
My only problem is a weak WIFI signal. I don't get a WIFI signal in a room where I used to get a signal.
I have spent the past few days flashing and experimenting and Dsext can confirm through the PMs we shared that I've had quite a few issues and I have just about everything down to a science. While running the ACID KG4 with ext4 support everything worked great except wi-fi calling. If you've read the thread on here and rw, you can tell this has been a huge issue for me and I hope I can clear this up for all.
When installing busy box, I tried using this JRummy's BusyBox Installer. Busy Box would never install properly (i.e. when you turn Voodoo on, you get a kind of bootloop that allows you to enter android then all of a sudden plays the startup over again and continues to do so.) When using Stericson's Busy Box, everything works flawlessly. I have not once had to format my SD card in any way shape or form.
As far as the wifi calling issue. I have finally settled into ICBINB GB Rom. I had issues getting it to work and here is my solution and explanation. When you flash this ROM, you'll get everything working. When you start to enable your tweaks, you'll find in the restarts your issues will come. I have found that if you leave your wifi turned on and reboot your phone, your phone will no longer connect to the T-Mobile network in any way (i.e. WiFi Calling nor through celluar network). If you reboot your phone WITHOUT wifi turned on everything works great. I believe the kink lies inside the wifi telling the phone that since it is connected to wifi, it doesn't need the data connection so therefore blocks that out. I have informed Dsext of this issue and he is checking it out and will hopefully have it fixed in the next week. Hopefully that helps anyone with those issues.
As for performance, well I'll let my screenshot cover that.
