Just wondering if anyone saw this yet and if there's anything we can do about it?
http://blogs.canoe.ca/canoetech/apps-alive/malicious-apps-continue-to-hit-android-market/
I realize it's probably old news on here. Is it getting that we need av on our android phones?
Don't know if anti virus will help on android platform, but I don't see any harm in using one.

Don't be a moron and install malicious apps? If you get a virus or something, it is most likely due to your carefree nature.
I don't think an anti-virus app is really needed.

Oh, I forgot, malicious apps are labeled as such, silly me, I'll keep my eye out for those.

I would just like to point out this post was against XDA rules.
By asking for this I assuming you do not wish to show support to our devs which is what this website is all about. Shame on you.
Cheap ass. You spend the money on the device and data plan but you're too cheap to spend a couple of bucks on quality software. You suck.

I have a hard enough time finding apps that even cost money in the marketplace.

Na, he specifically named installous. And that is where you downloaded cracked apps for the iphone.
Even if he dose here is not the place to discuss. The development team work hard to bring apps, if ppl are gonna crack them why would they even release them??

I don't care if it's deragatory and flame igniting, I'll say it again.

Nope, the idiot made it pretty clear he's looking for an Installous like market..
It is my understanding that you can get a refund for anything you buy that doesn't work out (in the first day or two i think). that coupled with all the trial apps, means there is no legit reason to use a cracked app.
Not that i ever agreed with that excuse, but some people suggested that it was there reason for wanting cracked apps - to try before buy.
Support developers and don't fool with cracked apps. It is stealing.
I don't think installous on iphone is that bad. I used it so I didn't have to pay for apps and I will admit that but then the app store is so massive anyway it doesn't matter. They will still develop for it.
On android however I think it is av completely different story. As the market isn't that big we need to be supporting developers and giving them a reason to want to develop for android. If everyone on android are going to crack the apps anyway then why would developers ever move from apple to android?

Do you use shoplifting so you don't have to pay for groceries? I mean, Woolworths is huge anyway.
Allow me to join in and flame...yes you suck mate.
I hate people complaining on lack of games or apps then they are the ones getting cracked software....support the damn developers if you want them to stick around...nuff said!

What is the best antivirus app? I use Dr.web light? Thanks.

I use Comodo Mobile Security (beta)
It's very hard to define what is the best, moreless all the same the free ones. Should be interesting seeing some comparatives and benchmark...
I use lookout. Only because the icon looks cool. Other than that, screw security.

GuardX
I use guardx. It was just the first one i saw on the market so i DL'd it. I agree with the earlier post that free ones are all the same, pretty much. Security is definitely not on the forefront of my mind with android as it's fairly secure. Better safe than sorry sort of deal for me. And just a reasonable attempt at securing an already secure device is above expectations. Happy security surfing.
Lookout
I use lookout, mainly for the missing device feature that comes with it.
I used Bkav made in Vietnam
I use Lookout. Mostly because it came with my phone and I don't really wanna know about anything else since they all do the same thing at varying prices (not that I'm paying for any services, that'd be stupid).
AVG is useless. Avast has a beta out, which might be better.
No need
I don't think antivirus is needed at all. The odds are like one in a million to get it from Market and you would still have to approve to a lot of permissions.
I would like to see one real case where an antivirus program actually prevented anyone from getting a virus.
i dont think an anti virus app works

So which one do you guys like to use think is best or whatever your thoughts are on them. I want to grab one up and use it, have been roaming on trials for while. Ever since AVG decided to think my serial was no good and kept throwing me onto a trail serial. it was good up till 02/28/2018 and last month it decided no more.
On the off chance i use windows or if someone asks i tend to say either avg or avasts free versions work very well. But depends on if you feel you need the extra features

Why are you so obsessed with pirating stuff? You know it's against the rules, already got in trouble, so you bring up another app that is probably either A, full of malware and crap to steal and your phones info, or B, just links to all kinds of hacked and pirated apps, which may be full of malware.
i was wondering if ----(mod edit) was considered piracy nothing else because i want more apps
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
as well as no ----(mod edit) is free of such things because my phone is protected and will tell me if my info is being taken or if there is a virus

Then install free apps and deal with the ad's, do that thing called get a job and pay money to dev's who spend their hard time making apps. Or, learn C, learn Java, learn android and make all your own apps you want for free.
Cheap,cheap,cheap
That's just a silly question, ---- (mod edit). What do you think that means? When ever I hear that in my head, I think of stolen goods.
Now, these stolen goods are modified to work for free without the Google Play/Market verification. Hmm Modified, lets think that through. When it is modified the person who is modifying the APK file can freely add what he desires, now what can a person add that would affect you and your phone? First of it can steal information such as phone numbers, email address', your IMEI which is very important, maybe your Google account, and maybe throw in some files that's important such as photos. Second of all once he is done robbing you blindly he can simply execute a factory reset. Now heed OUR warning.
thank u for answering my question. i will "heed your warning"
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
ANY FORM of theft is not allowed here. I already warned you. You will be watched closely now, and your ip address will be blocked if you continue to break our rules. If you want more apps, pay for them, or use some of the thousands of free apps. Wanting more apps is not an excuse to steal, of someone steals something, it's because they wanted it.... duh

Honestly I've never gotten a virus on any of my Android phones and I've owned many but I guess you can never be safe. If you're worried then maybe you should download an antivirus software to be safe. I never saw the need an I've never heard of anyone having one.

the best anti virus is common sense. ive never used anti virus on any computer or phone and i have never gotten any viruses.
just don't try pirate apps or download from unknown sources etc and you'll be fine.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Google has hardened the security a bit on android 4.4 so it's safe to say you don't need one also apply some common sense And don't download pirated apps only download from Google play

Viruses are not really a problem in Android, but spyware definitely is. If you are a person who doesn't worry about privacy then fine. But otherwise you need to protect yourself.
A firewall helps to control what goes in and out of your device. I use Avast Mobile Security (free) which combines a anti-virus (probably unnecessary) with firewall, anti theft and other security tools.
If you want to see some of the spyware on your device try "logging test app" (from play store, needs root). You'll see how your activity is logged and sent out.
Also check out XPrivacy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
And similar threads. But, if you live on Facebook and the like, then privacy is not a concern for you and you can ignore all the above.
(all the above is not unique to Android and is also true on Apple products too)

I am sure there are viruses out there...... the likelyhood of you actually getting one is slim to none. You might increase your chances if you used warez or installed some goofy apk from a website that nobody has ever heard of. Common sense is your best defense. There are anti virus programs out there but I have never used one.

Hi mate,
If you feel that you are vulnerable to viruses , install free anti-virus applications form play store like AVG, avast etc
My suggestion would be to install avast and be secured
There are many malwares on Android :-|
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I think there could be some, but generally speaking, if you don't go on a download frenzy on every app you see, you wouldn't run into any viruses.
