Cant restore wp7 with Zune - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I had did the Nodo update and all. But wanted to unlock my phone with Chevron and then come back to Nodo. Of course Zune created a nice backup of my phone before it did the Nodo update. Here's my dilemma. Once I unlocked again and everything I plugged my phone in and tried to restore the backup before I did the Nodo update. Problem is, the restore keeps failing with error code 801812E0. Any ideas as to why? It goes through the motions and stays stuck at 0 % and just reboots after a few mins.

I have the same problem I need help! I got no access to my phone, I only got it 2 days ago!! Im only 15 and If I tell my parents they will kill me, Please there has to be a fix someone answer

try the official MS support channel http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us, they have a twitter account too, they are quite active with it. You might get a reply from them

Back up Disappeared

big goof on my part, I never secured my backup before or after I installed Mango, I uninstalled my zune 4.8 to re-install back to 4.7.
? I have another phone with NoDo, is it possible for me to upgrade the NoDo phone in order to get a new back up and restore both phones back to NoDo

Backups are device specific. So you can only use the backup for the device it was made from.
You may want to use some disck recovery software and see if the backup folder still exists. That will be the eaisest wasy to gte the phone back on NoDo.
Option 2 is to contact MS and use their service to get the phone back on NoDo. The instruction sheet that came with Mango Update has the details.
You will probably have to flash a new rom. It tells you in the beta2 pdf in big bold letters to secure your backup, shame on you I have mine backed up to 3 locations, maybe 4.
Why did you remove zune 4.8? Did it not work with your nodo device?

my windows device manager would not start and my unlock phone (nodo phone) suddenly stop allowing me to sideload, so I did the uninstall, then a light pop say check for back up I looked and it was gone. no power outage just outage just gone weird. no restore point, glad it wasn't my main phone but now I can't sideload and no way to go back to day one, at the moment anyway.
where is the best place to flash my rom at, thanks in advance

check here . yours should be the one with TMOUS. check further in the Forum, there may be a NoDo rom, so you don't have to start from the very bottom.

[Q] HELP! I unlocked my ATRIX before updating to 4.5.91. What should I do?

I unlocked the bootloader to my phone then tried to install the new 4.5.91 update. I think this is the problem. I should have updated first then unlocked.
What is happening to my phone now is that while the package is installing, it stops about 1/5 of the way and shows an exclamation point in a triangle. Does this mean I bricked it?
I took out the battery and turned on my phone again but I can't use it because it automatically goes back to trying to install the 4.5.91 update. Then goes back to the exclamation point screen.
Anyone know what is happening and what I can do to fix this? Thanks!
I tried factory data reset and it fixed the problem of the phone automatically installing the update every time I turn on the phone. I can now use my phone again but what should I do about updating it to 4.5.91 gingerbread? Again, the bootloader is already unlocked. I'm also using a gingerblur rom..don't know it that might help too. Thanks!!!

I believe that, since your bootloader is already unlocked, you could try this. Assuming, of course, you are using an AT&T Atrix. And when you're using a custom ROM on any device, it is never a good idea to install an OTA
Let me know if you need anything else.

Problems restoring from backup made for Mango 7720...

So, I had the Mango RTM 7720 running on my Samsung Focus, but it wasn't ChevronWP7 unlocked. Wanting this, I made a full backup of my phone using hx4700 Killer's backup too. This left me with a 19.5GB folder, containing my entire phone's contents backed up. So, I flashed back to 7004 and after a lengthy and ridiculous process I am now back on 7720, but fully unlocked this time.
However, when trying to restore from the backup I made on 7720 before, both the Backup/Restore tool and the Zune software give me an error. The Backup/Restore tool gives me a blank error message, and the Zune software says an error code of 801812E0. I've tried this restore on two different computers, with every version of the updatewp.exe tool and the Zune software imaginable (4.7, 4.8 betas, 4.8 release) and nothing works at all. I was just thinking though, if I get the restore to work would it just leave me with a locked Mango again? Or would it retain the unlock? Either way, please, what can I do to get this restore to work?
Please, does anyone know? I'd like to have my phone back, hahaha.
If you get it working it will be locked mango again as pone is restored exactly as it was prior to back up.
I had no issues with the tool. To restore back up I use 1.8 tool and Zune 4.7.
Move your mango back up file somewhere safe.
Use the tool to create new back up of current device state.
Disconnect from the internet (stops Zune auto update to 4.8)
Delete current back up file (or move somewhere safe if you want)
Move your mango backup to the correct location
Use Zune to restore back up
This has worked for me but can't guarantee it will for you

as flashmaster correctly states, you will get your locked Mango back. At this point you have to make the decision whether you want your media back from your previous backup or not. If you do, roll back (if you can) and sync your media to the PC. Once your media is backed up, restore the current state of Mango back to the device.
Make sure you make a complete backup of your current state before you do anything else.
I suggest you use v1.4 or v.6 of the tools and the latest (4.8.2345) UpdateWP.exe, Zune.exe) to make the backup. If you read the latest posts in Heathcliffs thread you will see that some of us had problems with the switcheroo the v1.8 does with files.
Only trust backups that give you a completed message and that you can unplug the phone. The phone needs to reboot itself. If you do not get these, then your backup is hosed (somebody bricked his phone restoring such image, see thread latest posts).
If you do not care about the media on your old Mango backup and you already have your media backed up to the PC I suggest you stay with the current Mango and only make a backup of it.
good luck
I have now run into problems with 1.8.
I would go with prev post comments and use 1.6. I've had a much smoother experience using 1.6

New 3.2 update bootlooping?

OK, weird one this. Downloaded the update with no issues, it installed ok, it went to android recovery and then rebooted after a few mins into my homescreen. All good! - Then after about 5 seconds it said shutting off.. it then went through the whole updating procedure again. Ok no probs i thought, it needs 2 reboots.. fine.
However it has now done this 5 times!! and counting..I guess thats not right.. so how the hell do i stop it? lol
edit: managed to get quick view of "about tablet" and its still showing as 3.1 so the update is not applying.. i wonder why?

Are you rooted? That would be why. It's not advisable to accept an OTA update when your system has been altered. Unlocked is ok, just not rooted/modded.
If you are rooted and have a nandroid backup from before the update, try to restore from there. If not, boot into fastboot and restore to your model's original stock image (from motodev) then let the OTA updates bring you up to 3.1 and then 3.2. Re-install CWM Recovery, and re-root after that with solarnz' Universal Xoom Root and go from there.
If you're not rooted and your system is just continually rebooting, you should still try the fastboot/restore stock images procedure. There may be something easier, but I'll let someone else advise you on that.
Good luck!
Appreciate the help. No i am not rooted but i certainly dont want to restore a stock image as i will lose everything! Its nothing that cant be restored but why should i go through the hassle after accepting an OTA update if it doesnt work!
Currently now on my 16th reboot! - Getting fed up now...
Any ideas on how to apply this update ok?.. or at least stop it! lol

I can't think of any way to resolve this that doesn't involve a wipe of some kind. Have you checked any other Moto/Xoom forums to see if anyone else had the same problem?
My condolences on the irritating situation and the potential loss of your stuff. Actually, a good reason to root is that you can back everything up!
Well i took the plunge and wiped by unlocking. Cured the bootlooping (obviously), and so then thought - why not root aswell
All done and running Tiamat 2.2 and very happy!
Appreciate the help peeps..

[Completed] While updating a new binary everything was wiped!

So, i have root for about 2 months. Everything went fine until i got a notification that the Su binary had to be updated. So i pressed the button ton update it the normal way. After that my phone went into a boot loop. I searched up hundreds of post to see how to get out of a boot loop. But nothing worked. But when i was in the boot loop i connected my phone to my PC and copied everything to it. Then i got some hope. After my phone started with the official firmware, my phone downloaded all the apps by itself. But it didn't put my contacts back. So after that i realized that i had a NANdroid back-up. I was happy again. But unfortunately after i restored it, my pone went back in a boot loop and got stuck.:crying:. After i installed the firmware AGAIN all my apps and basically how it was before everything changed, came back. I was happier than ever before. I went to bed with a nice feeling. Than i woke up and got the message again about updating the Su binary. So now i thought nothing would happen. And this time i updated it with TWRP. But again i failed and got stuck again. I installed the firmware again for the 3rd time. After it started, i looked if i still had a NANdroid backup. And i actually had. So i restored and my phone got stuck again. So i installed the firmware again, hoping it would put everything back like the previous time. But it didn't. I searched up how to get your contacts back. My contacts weren't in my Gmail account. The Android Data Recovery program did nothing but ****. I couldn't import my contacts. Because somehow there weren't any. My last hope was my whole back-up of my phone. It took approximately 5 hours to restore. But even that didn't put my contacts back. I lost my hope. But then i saw that i had backed up my contacts with Titanium Backup. And i restored them and restarted my phone. It only restored some contacts and Skype names i didn't care about. Then my hope was officially lost. I didn't know what to do. I rooted my phone for only one reason and that was to get IOS emojis. And i even got them. I never knew that this Su binary update would totally F*UCK up my phone. Well thanks for that. And if somebody still has a clue, let me know. Because my contacts were me number 1 priority.
