How to use rommanager on 9023 ? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to use rommanager , but it says I have to install CWM recovery ..and there the troubles begin .. I have CWM installed but it is the modded version from the forum here because the original CWM generates a lot of errors on the 9023 and is not usable .. So if I install cwm via rommanager ( is just doesnt recognize the modded one as installed) I get the CWM which does not work for the 9023 .. How can I solve this ?

Dun use Rom manager then. When you want to update your ROM, install zip packages etc just use your recovery menu. It does the same thing.

[Q] Install ClockworkMod persistently

Hi,
I downloaded and flashed my S2 with this firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996714
Works very well. But I would like to have a better ClockworkMod Recovery. So I downloaded CWM Touch 5.8.1.5 (and also the "regular" CWM 4.0.1.5 as an alternative). I started the phone into recovery mode and used "apply zip". It says "replacing stock recovery", and the CWM Touch shows up with all functions working like a charm.
But next time I reboot the phone into recovery, the old recovery mode is present again. Same happens with the other CWM (4.0.1.5). It's like the installation is not done persistently on the partition but just temporarily into RAM ...
If I use the ROM Manager app to install one of the two CWMs, the app accepts the zip file, reboots the phone - but like before, the old recovery is still there. And it doesn't make a difference whether I select "wipe cache/data" and/or "wipe dalvik" prior to installation or not.
Is there a way of persistently installing this (or maybe a different) CWM?! Does it depend on the specific kernel that is in place with the firmware? Does said firmware and its kernel prevent installing a different CWM?
Regards,
Mac
Found a CWM6 here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270
Works alright and can be installed permanently.

The cwm of kernel doesn't allow another cwm to be installed!
Unless you're on stock kernel,I think this won't be possible!
But there should be a way out!!

Well, obviously it does. Said CWM 6 can be installed via Odin. I did not try CWM installation. This indeed may not work.

[Q] 2 Recoverys Flashed Help!

A while ago i rooted my phone and put a custom rom on it, liked it the got sick of it then flashed back to stock . a day or two later i instantly regretted this decision so i reverted back. This was a very drawn out process because my phone was being dumb etc, i initially tried to flash TWRP on it which worked , but it never flashed roms correctly for me , so i flashed CWM on it and that worked. flashed a rom , and it worked. I now want to flash a new rom but when i boot to recovery , TWRP is still there but when i am in Rom manager, it says CWM 6.0.3.1 is installed.
Is there a way to use odin to flash this back to stock and just flash CWM on the so i can get on with my life and flash new roms?
TL;DR
there are 2 recoveries (TWRP and CWM)
TWRP is accessible but doesn't work
need access to CWM
is there odin or a type of software i can use to solve this ?
I know i ****ed up pretty good, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Download GooManager from the Playstore. Then from GooManager run OpenRecoveryScript which will flash the latest TWRP.

I'm pretty sure that GooManager will install only TWRP. I would start there to fix your problem, since GooManager will install the recovery easily. Once you have TWRP you can switch by installing CWM if you'd like. For that, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305721

[Q] what happened?

DEVICE : SAMSUNG GALAXY FIT GT S5670
CURRENT ROM : GB 2.3.6 STOCK
I rooted my device a long time ago..but flashed the recovery few days ago only.
So here's what happened?
i flashed "AMON-RA RECOVERY"..then found it to be old.
then tried to flash the "TJ-STYLE RECOVERY" ...BUT SOMEHOW IT DIDN'T WORKED and ODIN was taking very much time.
so aborted and then flashed "PRATYUSH.CREED 'S RECOVERY"... as mentioned in the guide in the forum that this could backup the STOCK ROM.
THEN as mentioned in the guide i took a NANDROID BACKUP of the stock rom ...(didn't knew the backup was successful or not)..
after creating the backup i tried to flash OFFICIAL CYNOGEN MOD 7.2.0 NIGHTLY.ZIP but the process ended very quickly notifying of successfull flashing...
instead when i rebooted after showing the sumsung animation the Device got hungup at a black screen with android written on it at a little right.
then i tried to restore the NANDROID BACKUP...but the recovery showed MD5 ERROR..
I thought may be a unlocked BOOTLOADER is required ..i googled it but couldn't find the procedure...
i then downloaded and flashed a STOCK_GB_2.3.6.tar.md5 rom..
this worked BUT REPLACED THE CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY WITH STOCK RECOVERY
.
.
.
NOW THE QUESTIONS :
1.why wasn't the NANDROID BACKUP successful ?
2.why didn't the OFFICIAL CYNOGEN MOD 7.2.0 worked ?
3.how can i unlock the BOOT LOADER if it is required for the CUSTOM ROMS ?
4.why the CUSTOM CLOCKWORK MOD got replaced by the STOCK RECOVERY on reflashing with stock rom ?
help me ...

i m a complete noob, but i will try to help u as much as possible ...
i think, there was a prob with flashing of custom recovery,
i m also on custom recovery (dunno which one) i flashed it as flashable zip frm recovery {i think i installed tj style fr odin then flashed the present recovery }
Also, wen u flash stock rom, u need to root it again ..
nondroid problem? mayb due to recovery problem ..
bootloader thing? sorry i dont knw anything bootloader thing ...
If i were u, i will first install tj style recovery from odin(it roots ur phone too, so no need to root it first) then either use it(its said to b most stable recovery around) or flash another recovery as flashable zip frm the present recovery ...
(i will avoid using odin fr each nd every thing ...)
Hope this helps ^^

HOW WOULD I DO THAT..?
means the tj-style recovery i have is in TAR format...
should i UNcompress and recompress it in ZIP format... ?
AND WHAT POSSIBLE DISADVANTAGES COULD BE FOR THE ODIN ?
1) Nandroid Backup works only for custom roms. For stock roms u can only take a backup but u cant restore (there's a recovery by pratyush.creed which does restore too but i didn't try so can't say)
2)Perhaps u didn't flash properly so it went into bootloop. Use CWM by TJ-style only and next time, wipe data, cache and dalvik cache and format /system just as a precautionary step before flashing custom rom.
3)Samsung Phones doesn't have locked bootloaders. So to flash a rom, u can do it easily
4) The stock rom u flash via ODIN contains stock recovery as well.
U cant flash recovery unless u have other custom recovery (well there is a flashable zip for CWM by tjstyle but i dont know whether it can be flashed via stock recovery). The only way u can do is through ODIN. Make sure ODIN is set properly and if u have windows 7, run it as administrator and better reinstall drivers.

Hi guys
I flashed my CWM 6.0.3.5 through terminal emulator .. but i tried to flash two different ROMs and i tried to flash another CWM but it failed all
now i have to flash CWM trough Odin ... can i flash a new CWM trough odin directly ? or i have to flash a stock recovery using odin before flashing CWM ? and if i have to flash stock recovery could you give me a link for download it ? I searched but no result
thanks guys
BTW speedmod ROM is the best ever thing could happen to ACE plus !!
Try ROM Manager app from play store and flash the appropriate cwm version. And I believe you can flash without going back to stock
You can also switch to twrp...
Please hit thanks if I helped you anyway
use cwm 5.5.0.4 or twrp 2.5
when i tried to install CWM through ROM manager a pop-up window appear saying that GT-S7500 does not have an officially CWM supported yet :/
.. my device was not listed above :/
And can I flash twrp without going back to stock recovery ??
