Hey guys! Just want to say that Dungeon Defenders is now free on the market! No idea if this is permanent or just today, so grap your copy now!

I believe it is free now because Google launched their in-app payment model, and they developer will be charging real world cash to acquire in-game items.

Oh i see! LIKE!
What does this mean for the persons that paid for this app? Are we subject to having to pay for everything now to?
The only difference is that you paid for it and we don't. Everyone can use the in-app purchase.
They made it free so that more people will play it. It's a strategy for the console/pc version which is soon to be released.

Damn I paid for it. Hopefully we get more players now.
Any dates for console version?
"Dungeon Defenders” has never had an official release date for its PC, XBLA and PSN versions, though a Q1 release was Trendy’s initial goal. The game is now looking at a March or April release date for the XBLA and PSN versions, with the PC version releasing sometime later."
Hopefully the people that paided for it get something nice in-game
ARE YOU KIDDING ME
i bought this and now its all free.
and the people who paid for it get nothing.
BULL****.
I hope their PC/Console games fail.
I bought it but hardly played it, it's just too damn complex for a portable game.
I'm not real impressed about being nickle & dimed for it after buying it at full price, I won't be purchasing anything further from this developer that's for sure. If they'd given paying users SOME sort of acknowledgement then it'd be different, but that's just insulting the people that've supported them.
I guess they figure the microtransaction model works for Zynga, so why not them as well.
Didn't you people get tons of free items every-so-often already, delivered to you?
Geez, it's not like the developer is asking you to pay a monthly fee; they only made the apk free of charge. The new players who now download the free apk will never be able to get the free items you all got. And if you don't feel like spending any more cash on the game, then don't buy anything using the in-app purchasing mechanism.
Sheesh...
maybe you guys don't know how to play the game so you all are complaining that it should have been free. it's pretty cheap for a game like this!

Why not? Just because it's an episodic game? Thats nothing new, infact xbox live has quite a few episodic games, including some big ones like fable 2.

I don't see how XBL would be related to a game getting Xperia Play controls.
Sounds like they already laid out the plan for this game and are done with it, much like that Captain America game I would not expect it to be XP optimized anytime soon.

I wouldn't except it either, they only have 2 games on the market. Unless enough people gave it a 1 star rating and complained enough about it.

Why has an xbox game, got anything to do with this half assed port, and their money making scheme..in app billing, for that..it should have been the full game, for a couple of quid, from the off.
in app billing + dodgy controls + ads in paid game + episodic = failure, In my book.

Buy the game, buy the episodes, click on the ads, support the developer.
Android game development is still kind of fragile at this point. Great games rarely get over 10k downloads, Amazing games rarely get over 100k downloads.
Just spend the dollar and consider it a donation to the developer to continue working on the game.

I'm all for supporting them, BUT there is NO controller support. I can deal with the ads but the NO controller support is a HUGE deal breaker. If they do update the app with support I well TOTALLY buy it again. I actually have emailed them about the issue.

With the way this game is looking I doubt they'll add support (hope I'm wrong). With ads in the paid app and a crappy port I'm betting they're just making as much money as they can till people figure out it's a waste of money.

Your comment was "they wont add xperia play controls because the game is episodic" like thats a bad thing or what **** devs do, my point was episodic games are everywhere even in main stream gamimg. I wouldnt know if the game has ads because like anyone else with a brain cell i'm using ad free to hide them. But FYI even some of the top paid apps on the market like 360 live pro have ads too. Does that make there dev dodgy too???
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
I wouldn't use 360 live pro, not after paying, and having ad filled stuff in my face..
I just don't agree with that.
Free users, yeah, slap an ad or two, but not for paid for software.
I tried this game it dont use the play buttons so unistalled it.

That's not how it works. This is not published as an alpha program which will be updated in the future and for which donations would be welcome. This is a full fledged program which is being sold with certain commercial practises. Sticking ads in a paid product, not adding Xperia Play controller support and in app Billing in such a short game are not good practises, and buying the game implies supporting them.
Voting with our wallet means not paying for crud. If we buy it, more crud will come because companies will understand that that's what we want. Consumer feedback is all good and nice, but the bottom line is what companies and developers are ultimately attentive to.
This is important because if that function, called price mechanism, doesn't coordinate companies and consumers properly, problems are bound to appear... As they actually are doing, and I don't mean the video game industry alone.
****ty controls, uninstalled.
The game doesn't even appear on my xperia play market, but it appears on the market on my g2 phone. also, is there an official version of duke nukem 3d coming out? cause this isn't made by the actual company.

Your so naive, do you not think this happens in main stream gaming? When you play burnout and see lynx adverts on the roadside, do you not think lynx are paying to advertise there? Or when you play PES/Fifa and see adverts all around the pitch? Tiger woods 10 even had pop up ads

There is a bit of a difference to "Billboard" advertising in games that adds "Authenticity" to the surroundings i.e. Fifa and the sideline banners and the "distracting-take-up-10%-of-your-screen-real-estate-mobile-ads”.
The first example I except, the second only if I haven’t paid for the app.
On another note, I always preferred Quake to Duke Nukem, so my recent purchase of Zeus Arena will keep me content FPS wise until Modern Combat 3 comes to android.
The Humble Bundle for Android
Four awesome games for your Android device. Jump start your mobile game collection with Anomaly: Warzone Earth, Osmos, and EDGE. If you pay more than the average price, you also get the indie classic World of Goo!
Playing at your desktop? No problem. Buying the Humble Bundle for Android also gets you Mac, Windows, and Linux versions of the games.
Pay what you want. If you bought these games separately, it would cost around $60, but we are letting you set the price!
The games work great on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Android (system requirements here). If you're not sure if your Android device is compatible, give these demos a try.
You can support charity. Choose exactly how your purchase is divided: between the developers, the Child's Play Charity, or the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Also, if you like this deal, a tip to Humble Bundle would be much appreciated!
I got their email about it earlier. I bought the apps because I only just got my android tablet the other day and don't own any of these games. They are all great games and I'd recommend anybody to buy them who owns an android device. It also supports charity!
I would totally do this if I had more than 56 cents to my name...I would feel horrible paying so little...>.>...Great idea though...Hope it's still around when I can take advantage of this with more heart behind it. ^_^
Great deal. Played Osmos on an iPhone for some time.
I am thinking about buying the bundle. Do I get the apks or can I download them via the market? What about possible updates?
Greetings
FallenOne
You get APK's and they upload new versions to their website. They also mentioned they have some app in development that will push updates to your device.

Humble Bundles last a couple weeks at most. I paid $6 for this yesterday, but I honestly wouldn't blame you for paying $.50 if that's all you have. If they didn't want you to do that, they'd set a minimum (Indie Royale, for example, a similar pay-what-you-want bundle deal, has a $1 minimum).
If it would make you feel any better, set it to to give the entire 50 cents to charity.
I paid $ 25, even though I have previously purchased a Wolrd of Goo and OSMOS (Via website or Steam, Humble Bumble 3, Android Market and Humble Bumble for Android)
Bought it also and paid 10$, got OSMOS allready but it's a fun game tho. World of Goo is worth it!
Dungeon Hunter 3 is now available in Gameloft Market Page.
someone know if it is online play only?
thank's
Oh, yes! Been waiting for this... Wait, what??? They want money for it? It was freemium (free to play/try) on iOS! What the hell Gameloft?
Oh, regarding your question. I can only talk about the iOS version which I played, and that REQUIRED you to be online to play it.
Every single in-game transaction (like buying a potion) went through the Gameloft servers.
Don't know about this version though, I AM NOT GONNA PAY FOR IT, it should be freemium as iOS version, damn you Gameloft.
I play it in ipad, but, this version, graphics are different.
I saw gameloft have java version, and this version have graphics.
Someone help us?

I am really curious about this game. If someone buys it, please let us know. I might even change my opinion and buy it, IF there are no further IAPs required.
But if they want me to pay upfront and then pay for IAPs.... not going to happen.
I didn´t buy it but i saw the screenshots from the game and it is the java version(2d graphics). Gameloft also said on Twitter that they will release Dungeon Hunter 3 for Android in March alongside with the IOS Multiplayer Update.

I hate Freemium, I'd rather it be pay so I can get it for 99 cents when they have a sale. I don't want to have to have my credit card linked to a game to play it.
do xp able to play such big deal?
Even though the general consensus seems to be that In-App purchases are a HATED thing by consumers...Devs keep coming out with apps that utilize it.
I'm curious to see how many folks from XDA actually have payed into IAP.
I have on ios, ive spent 7$ on dead space. But most games i just use the iap cracker hack, downloads iaps for free lol

Maybe not the right section of XDA but anyway...
I have NEVER played a game with in-app purchases because I can guess already that the game will push you to buy... I hate freemium.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
They do not push you to buy, but they implement a reward/delayed gratification system that humans succumb to, justifying in game "coins" purchases for the impatient.
I have a lot of games that use this: tiny tower, svz, dead trigger, contract killer; none of these force purchases.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Recent news about Dead Trigger is what piqued my interest about IAP.
Basically Madfinger blames rampant piracy of Dead Trigger as the reason why they recently dropped the price of Dead Trigger from $0.99 to FREE.
To which I think it's a load of BS and it's more likely they're using known issues of piracy on Android as an easier-to-digest public announcement of the pricedrop...Versus the truth, which is that their IAPs are doing very well so they're going to give the game away to entice more people in so they'll also use the IAP.
Call me a conspiracist, but since when does giving your product away for free as a piracy deterrent a good business model?...Photoshop has got to be one of the most pirated piece of software out there, you don't see Adobe giving it out for free to battle piracy though.
Actually, I prefer iap than downright paying for an app that might not deliver as promised.
Most games that use iap are actually more challenging/fun/satisfying when you go through them without spending real money to make them a cakewalk.
iAP is actually ok if it was equal to the amount that is usually charged for paid apps. However, most dev see it as a way to earn more money by crippling the game so much that it requires iap. Dead trigger seems to be ok without purchasing iap.

I agree.
Would like to but can't
Being from outside the US, I have not figured out how to do an iAP.
I can buy from the Play Store through my browser, but so far, have not been able to purchase via iAP.
While I do not play games on my Note 2, there are occasions where I would like to make an iAP.
So, long story short, if I could figure out how... I would.
Though I hate it. I would rather have a free version and a pro version I can buy on the forum through my browser on my computer vs. iAP. That way I can buy them too.
I do spend money on in game purchases, even though I think a lot of it is borderline evil and essentially charging people to cheat.
I really think there should be regulations.
I mean paying money to change some memory value in a single player game seems like a scam to me. Seems dishonest. Selling actual content is ok, but selling cheats just makes me angry!
I mean buying gems is essentially a money cheat. So sometimes I use freedom app to do that instead. And if you think cheating is not ok, then you clearly have not been alive back when every game out there had cheats FOR FREE!
And then we see the glorified gambling boxes everywhere with undisclosed chances to get what you actually want. Its the wild west.
I feel bad for the 'whales' that spend thousands of dollars on a game, because their addictive tendencies got exploited and in 5 years from now the game will be taken offline.
Also paying for power makes many games unacceptable for me and like 90% of mobile games do it now. You always have to pay for power, power increases over time. Its basically a game subscription if you want to be competitive, except instead of $20 per month, you would have to spend $300 per month to stay competitive.
And the saddest thing about it all is that consumers accept that stuff. And so do legislators. FOR NOW. But times are changing. The Wild west of mobile casinos will end. Soon you wont be able to do micro transactions in certain jurisdictions if your game is a pay-for-cheats lootbox/pack casino, and good riddance.
Hello!
I've recently completed the first book of my text adventure game after a year of work, and I would be very grateful if you could give it a try and give me some feedback. In this game you play as an ordinary guy trying to win a mage tournament against the most powerful mages in the world, in the hopes of winning the grand prize, and using it to fulfill your lifelong dream of becoming a mage yourself.
As you progress, you will also get to know the inhabitants of the continent that the tournament takes place on, and you will learn that a person called the Creator established several utopias in this realm a few hundred years ago, where animals and humans could live in harmony, and where food was created through magic. What you will get to experience throughout the game, however, is the downfall of these utopias, and you can even choose to save them from destruction if you so desire.
Besides the traditional choice making, you also have stats you can level up, and there are different checks in the game to see if you have the necessary level to take a certain action. For example, if your ancient languages level is high enough, you can understand when the animals or monsters speak.
Here is the link to the game: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.magiumgames.magium
I hope you'll all enjoy playing this game as much as I enjoyed making it!
Cheers!
Congratulations
Dude, your game is just amazing, the best app I have ever downloaded in my phone, I just want to congratulate you and say that I cant wait to see what happens next! Keep up with the good work (and please tell me the first book's ending can be reversed ).
P.S.: why don't you put your game for ios as well? I have some friends that loved the idea but only have iPhones.
I just saw the XDA thread on r/androiddev and I remembered this forum. Just wanted to let everyone here know that since my initial post on this forum, the 2nd book has also been completed and the story is still in progress. Chapter 4 of book 3 was published a few days ago on android and iOS.
Cheers!

Unfortunately, it looks like Google Play purchases are unavailable in Montenegro, and this game relies exclusively on IAPs for income (the game doesn't have any ads). Aside from that, if I were to publish the game there without an option to pay to unlock the next books faster, I'd be sure to get negative reviews from people. I'll publish it there if Google ever makes purchases available in that region.

Makes sense. Maybe you could consider making an alternative version without IAPs, so that you could sell it from Play Store and XDA store with an upfront price? Or maybe there are other IAP providers that do not depend on Google's slow expansion? I have no idea how practical that would be, but at least you would be able to reach a few more people...

I can't really sell it with an upfront price because the game is still in development. The first two books and first four chapters of book 3 are available, which all amount to around 600k words on all paths, but the series will have 5 books or more, and I don't want to ask for the full price now, because it takes a long time to write these.
I had the game up on the amazon store for some time, but there were barely any downloads coming from there, so I pulled it out, because it wasn't worth the extra effort to port a new version for that store.
When the whole story is finished, I'm planning to put a full-priced version of the game on Steam, and maybe then I'll also consider some other stores, but that will be years from now.
Ok, good luck and sorry for noise.
Amazing story, enjoyable and fun. Must be crazy hard to keep up with writing it tho.
A song that kinda feels like it matches this is "Tabi no Tochuu (Spice and Wolf)" by AmaLee.
Barry (my one at least) is a crazy but smart guy focused on his aim, which I love.
Good luck with the rest of it, I'll defo be keeping up.
PS - You might wanna secure achievements by forcing over the cloud or something cause someone can get the books for free by editing the savefile as root.
This is interesting
