Nexus S 350€ or Galaxy S 200€? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says, for which one should I go?
greetings

Nexus S or hold out for a new Dual core...your call?

I don't want/need a dualcore phone, I want to stick with singlecore..
the appdevs will need some time to make their apps profit from a dualcore cpu
so i will buy a dual/quad (isn't nvidia announcing tegra 3 later this year?) in the mid of next year
and i can not afford more than a used Nexus S for 350€ and i would be glad if i can save 150€ and go for a Galaxy S instead, but the fact that the Nexus S is directly supported from google makes it sexier to me than the galaxy s..
do i have the same possibilities with them?
is it easy to port roms from the nexus s / galaxy s to the nexus s / galaxy s??
(btw, i am expierienced with rom cooking/developing)
which community is bigger/better, will the nexus s community last longer / grow bigger? (looking at the european release now)
And if i go for the nexus s, i only have the ability to take a i9023 (SCLCD). Do i have any limitations, can i flash roms for the AMOLED nexus s to the SCLCD nexus s?
so many questions

I say nexus s because as you said stock android is always better ....also I think there will be a greater community with the nexus s .........but the newest nexus s has many different features i.e screen....and am not sure how these compare .....also there was some speculation that flashing and mounting was an issue on new nexus but this may have been resolved ..... either way if your a distinguished cooker then i think you'll love the NS

Exchange Galaxy S for Nexus S?

Hello nexus folks,i wanted to ask your opinion , if I should sell my galaxy s and buy a nexus s, because gradually the developers are moving on to the nexus s for android development, and other then the aesthetic appeal of nexus s it's pretty much the same as galaxy s, what do you guys think i should do? your replies would be appreciated

The i9000 is a Well suppprted phone. And samsung it's on the verge of releasing 2.3. If you could do it for free, I would go for it, otherwise hold off.
Sent from my Nexus S
Why would you want a nexus S when galaxy s already has 2.3 and that was really the only thing NS had over SGS...oh and better GPS
Id wait for galaxy s 2 will be out in a week or two
also there really isn't much support in dev section for NS
not saying the NS is bad becasue its not but to late in the game better phones are already available
I think its worth it. I came from the vibrant to the nexus s. Although hardware is near identical, running the latest OS makes all the difference. It may be true that the galaxy s will receive 2.3, but the nexus s will eventually receive 2.4, again giving it the upperhand with a more optimized OS. To me, the difference between 2.2 and 2.3 on similar devices were huge, and I would expect the same for 2.3 to 2.4.

thanks for replying guys, and no ,the exchange wouldn't be for free, id have to pay a little more then a $100 for the exchange , but like i said i wanted to know what the nexus owners have to say about their custom roms because at the end of the day these devices are more or less the same except for factory built ext 4 FS Nexus S has, regarding the Galaxy 2, ive heard that samsung is going to lock the OS (locked bootloaders or something), which basically means no custom roms??
Not for nothing but vibrant has alot going for it over nexus s imo id rather get a sg2 or a sensation I wouldnt pay any money for an exchange No Gorilla Glass,No 720p,No Codecs,No TV out 3.5mm,No SD Card,
Things it has over the Vibrant:
GPS Fixed
Ext4 Filesystem
Google Coding it
Form Factor
The phone is pretty fast
If the Nexus S gets 3.1 or whatever the next android version is then maybe the nexus s might be worth it but for now personally would go the sg2,sensation or maybe even g2x route because it has new bands on it for at%t

The G2X doesn't have quad-band UMTS support like initially reported.
U got to be kidding galaxy s for nexus s i dont think so
The Google experience is just too good to give up while all these phones
Getting gingerbread now nexus s will be on ice cream soon
I have the nexus s and my friend has a galaxy s. The phones are almost the same.
You have no reason for changing your phone (and pay for it).
When google releases the new android version, be sure there will be a new newer google phone that runs this version. Then it might be the time for an upgrade.

What do you mean when you say the Nexus S doesn't have any Codecs? None at all, or are there some commonly used codecs missing?

[Q] Is the Galaxy Nexus Upgrade worth is to Nexus S owners?

If I have a GSM Unlocked Nexus S running 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, is the upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus worth it? What do you guys think? Let me know your opinions in a comment below. Thanks

This topic has been asked and answered several times. It's really a personal decision/opinion and everyone is different. Search is your friend. I'll get you started with one of the more recent discussions ...

If you really care about having the latest phone, massive screen etc. then go for it.
If you dont then I would just stick with the nexus s. I know I prefer the smaller overall size, more compact etc as well as the fact that the NS is pretty fast, receiving ICS updates etc... wouldnt want to carry one of these big beefy phones that keep being released, what happened to having a compact phone that fits in your pocket??
Does everything I want it to.
Helllll yessss

To be honest, if I had the money, I would buy the Galaxy Nexus. Overall, it's a great device. Even so, Nexus S is still a good phone, mostly if you like to flash custom ROMs
At the end, it would be a personal decision, but if you asked me....I would buy it without hesitation.
It depends. It's definitely better than the Nexus S, but I didn't buy one because it was a downgrade from the SII. I refuse to ever buy any phone that isn't the best phone at the time of it's release. I know that phones become outdated all the time, but they should never be outdated on release.

The Nexus phones have never been the most powerful phones at the time of their release. Even the Nexus S wasn't. However, because Google develops the software using the Nexus phones, they always perform near the top of the class or at the top when it comes to performance.
Somehow I prefer galaxy note over galaxy nexus….

I'm satisfied til now with my nexus s. But maybe before year ends i'll replace this with galaxy nexus, just waiting for the price to drop a little.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Once the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus is available here in the States, I'll probably grab one on contract if I can. I'm not going to pay the import prices for a GSM Galaxy Nexus. It's a very nice phone, but it's not nice enough to justify those kind of prices; plus, I refuse to switch my phone service to Verizon. I have a data plan with them for my Xoom and that alone makes me feel like a dirty whore. I'm a VERY satisfied T-Mobile customer.
If you're enjoying your phone why not just wait till the next nexus

So what was the better phone then? I may have missed it, but I looked pretty thoroughly for a phone around the Nexus S' launch time, and as far as I could tell, it was the best.
Galaxy S. Same RAM/CPU/GPU, but has 720p recording, FM Radio and it was released around 5 months earlier.
This is kind of offset with some gps problems, touchwiz and no camera flash.
..
I would consider only S2 if I am in the market for an upgrade from nexus s.just my 2 cents.
Cant find any difference between them except 3d game

which phoen should i get!?

i'm going to get a new phone to replace my Samsung gs Captivate,
my phone is still working , but getting slow since i have more then 60apps installed, and camera focus is broken.
my phone is rooted+custom 2.3ROM+OC, still slow...XXXXXX
im in BC, canada with roger, still have 1 year contract.
i like the look of GS II(i9100)
but rogers don't have it, only Bell GSII 4G look the same, and i'm not going to move to bell
3 device im interested
Motorola razr
Galaxy Nexus
GSII LTE(i'm not going to upgrade to LTE network...LTE seems less interested to me)
what i think about those 3 phones
razr have the best look(i think).
Galaxy Nexushave the best support for android(son of Google)
LTE.....only faster CPU, and expensive LTE
which one should i get....
give me some suggestions please
thank you very much
i'd go for the Galaxy Nexus seeing you're into custom roms
Galaxy Nexus should
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is fine, or the HTC HD2 (warning, it has windows but HUGE Android ROM Support here)
HTC sensation?
GS2 is better than Sensation, not to mention Gnexus..
GS2 weights less, performs much faster (my bro can barely play GTA3 on Sensation) and has a much, much better* screen which you can even use outdoors.
HTC Sensation is very nice. ;-) Awesome design and performance!
Go with the Nexus...
720p resolution screen is amazing!
Plus it's a google phone and from the looks it will be a major flagship device for them (unlike the nexus s), so it will receive all and any new updates first. That being said when the official release is made the custom roms will only be that much more stable!
thank you everyone!
i guess i will go for galaxy nexus.

I woudla said sgs or sgs II but seeing how you're not interested in the SGS and nor much interested in the SGS II then i'd say galaxy nexus, being a direct google product has the obvious benefits, plus being a samsung product ensures good reliability, and custom ROM-ing seems very popular and well supported for the samsung line of smart phones. My SGS seems to have a shed load of ROMS for it!
Nexus S

That will be my choice too, go for it.
--------------------------------
HTC Sensation @ ARHD 6.2.1
--------------------------------
Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy Nexus. Simple choice.
If you must choose now take Galaxy Nexus, but better is to wate until april/may when new phones will arrive to carriers.
Nexus
I would say #1 is the galaxy nexus. It is a great advantage if you want stock android, and if you generally use the stock rom. If you use custom roms, then this won't be a big deal, as you can flash an updated rom. The motorola razr is the second best choice in my opinion. Motorola phones have relatively low amounts of bloatware and are relatively easy to root compared to other phones like samsung.
hope i helped
Nexus S
you may also like the unique curved body of the galaxy s. it is a show off point, but i don't know if that is important to you.

On the flipside, of course, the Galaxy Nexus is also the phone of choice if you're looking for custom ROMs It already acts as a Nexus (pun intended) and benchmark for developers, since it was the device to have supported ICS the longest. Plus, as the latest Nexus device (until later this year), and destined for official updates from google, one can expect dev interest to continue for quite some time.
better wait for xperia S .... or wait for mwc 2012, there will be alot new phone coming......
I will chose phone that can be giving ics update like xperia 2011 family

It depends how much money u can spend for this phone if i will have "some" cash i will buy phone with TI OMAP5 Cortex-A15 made in 28nm technology its 2 core processor but its much more better then tegra 3 and have good battery life with good performance.

[Q] which phone should i get ?

hi,as the title says which phone should i get next ?,i already have a sony ericsson xperia neo and was thinking about galaxy nexus and galaxy note !,should i wait for the new note maybe ? or the new nexus ? or go for one of them ?,thanks
If you need one now buy the note, if you can wait if say wait some interesting things due out within the next 4 to 5 months, iPhone 5, windows 8 phones, new Nexus, maybe new Note, new HTC note type device maybe, new Sony phones and such. Should be an interesting 4th quarter for new releases in time for the holidays.

iam afraid i have a limited budget and these devices gonna be somehow expensive for me,isn't the pure experience on the galaxy nexus better than the note ? i know they all get custom roms,5.3" is a big brick performance wise, which is better ?

Note is the better device simply because of its size. It's a beast and still performs well using the enxyos cpu. If the size isn't an issue the note would be my preferred device from your options. Pure Google is fine but can get boring after a while at least with the note you can still get the pure Google experience via custom roms. It's been upgraded to ICS as well so even better.

It first of all has to be carrier specific weither you prefer 4g, speed, or truly unlimited data. I have been with both Tmobile, version, and sprint. Overall I prefer sprint for the 3g on day to day and since they just got LTE I plan on staying. The viper looks amazing as does the EVO LTE. I would stay away from the windows phones unless you plan on rooting it into an android phone but make sure there is some decent development first. Overall I love android and will never go back! Samsung and HTC make great devices I've had from both but look at cnet and engadget for reviews they haven't steered me wrong yet. Good luck!!

Definitely you'll notice a difference. Dual core are very fast, especially galaxy note, even with stock firmware they fly. Gets better if you root.
If you really want to,get the galaxy note. Very good phone.Otherwise, galaxy s2 is better than nexus in my view.

aha the thing is their is an offer in one of the shops here where i live, the nexus is for 430 $ new and unlocked and the note is for 550$,is the note worth the 120 $ difference ?
Size matters?
I would go for the note if you are not afraid it is getting to big. I think the note is worth the extra $120.
Galaxy Note! is very fast

Hello Dear Viewers,
I am here to gather your opinions. This is just a discussion and not a debate. So please be nice.
I am posting this in the Galaxy S2 forum because i use it currently.
I am selling my iphone 4 and i was thinking which phone to go for next.
The features that i require are:
A fantastic camera, the iphone 4s has the best image capabilities i see.
And a call record mod which allows me to record calls. Which is not available on the iOS.
Now my question is should i buy the galaxy s3 or the htc one x or the iphone 4s.
And i already know the specs of all the phones. I just need your personal preferences.
And i know that people dont buy the iphone for its hardware , they buy it for that ease of use.
I'm choosing a s3 due to its screen resolution and the 22nm chipset, I feel comfortable with open source and the support from xda devs then ios, would like to try siyah on a s3, one x doesn't interest me, no sdcard, no removable battery and the battery drain from the lcd screen, the tegra is weaker I hear,
I'm planning to get a s3, that with paranoid android and its dpi per app would be perfect.

The iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X all have excellent, fairly similar cameras

S3 my friend. The sound quality and picture quality are superb. The S3 has the Same Camera chip as the 4s, but a slightly improved one of that chip. Also, zero lag shutter means you DON'T even realize when pictures are taken because it is so fast. In burst mode, 20 pictures in 3 secs. It also has HDR and other functions in the camera settings you'll probably like

Out of those three devices, NONE.
Wait for the next Nexus and iPhone, then decide.
I own an iphone 4 and recently acquired sgs2. My first 6 months of iphone i was happy with it. 7month i jailbroke it. Then i was happy agaib. 8th month im looking forward to heavily tweak my iphone. After that i did some stuffs like tweaking the system.however i got bores due to the closed and restricting ios. I cant have enough so i acquired galaxy s2 first day im soo happy with it because it is fast. 2nd day i go to xda to find how to root flash etc etc. Then 5th day i flashed speedmod kernel then 6th day flashed neak. Im so happy with my droid. and o i was a wm user back in the old days of the first xperia i also tweaked and mod and flashed it.

You meant 28nm CPU right? You are referring to the Qualcomm MSM8960 CPU? OP, you need to differentiate between the US Galaxy S3, which uses this 28nm CPU and International S3 which uses a 32nm Exynos 4.
I don't think choosing any of these phones from S2 is a good idea, better wait till the end of this year for newer nexus or Note 2 if you don't like nexus devices

I'd go for the SGS3 unless you really don't like samsung's touchwiz so much that you'd rather wait for the next nexus. And you can always use other launchers. ADW EX launcher is a good one with a lot of options.
