su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak (notice this file install-recovery.sh may not be on your device if it gives an error or file not found move on)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-a60-gnm.img (or name of recovery.img)
sync
then power off device and boot holding "HOME" key
Please test nandroid backup/restore by using the nandroid backup and restore option
Please test usb mass storage in recovery
Please test flashing of signed-test_flash.zip which if successful will place test-flash_file in /system/bin
Please test key mapping if if it is wrong use keycode debugging under other menu and send me keymapping and keycodes. IE. vol-up is keycode 000 etc
Key mapping is Vol-up & Vol-down move selection up & down. Back is backup a menu. Menu key is to select.
This is a test version I'll do full release soon after bugs (if any) are worked out.
For debugging use the move recovery-log to sd option under other and please upload it with feedback.

Appreciate the thanks guys. However, its been nearly 2 days now with no feedback. Can someone try and test to make sure everything is working as intended?

vijkap,His phone does not boot up.
I think now borax12 only having full working mobile.
He will online at above 2:30GMT.

I tested but the text on the recovery was not readable. It was only responding to volume up-down, ( as you have said now only I read the instruction ). I tried to select options with menu key, even a level down text was not readable.
I got an error "mtd: not writing bad block at 0x002c0000" one time I tried
Code:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-a60-gnm.img
The first time I tried
Code:
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
I got /sdcard/flash_image: No such file or directory, just added for documentation. Thanks to @drellisdee and others. Should I try once more, pls let me know.

Seems like options are working. My phone reset to default or something when I selected an option (not readable!) and my installed apps are missing

Sounds like it. Seems you selected data wipe. Please setup adb drivers if you havent already. In recovery do this to test nandroid. Adb shell nandroid-mobile.sh --backup
Can someone verify the resolution of this device ie. Wvga, hvga etc. It need to look at resolution for the ui stuff.
When you say text isnt readable do you mean its not there or to small or jumbled to read. Try to take screen shot with adb shell ddms or adb shell ./ddms

qvga (240x320)

Its Resolution is QVGA.
Sorry for Double post.

Text is not small. Looks like the frequency is not correct, that is my guess.

I too got the same thing. It's unreadble. resolution problem may be. It should be QVGA 240x320. Thats what i think.
Installed this custom recovery through an app called "recovery flasher", which can be downloaded from the market.

Maybe the recovery screen should look like this

drellisdee, please rework on custom recovery to suit qvga. Meanwhile I'm still struggling with my phone. I'll be taking it to micromax support for a fix.

Yes that's similar to what its supposed to look like. Can someone give me a nandroid boot.Ingram upload and include a md5sum. If wondering if the rexocovery dump I used got corrupted in the uploading/downloading as it had no md5sum. I've never had a result like that and made 10+ recoveries.

I think he does not ask that.
He asked boot.img and recovery.img with md5sum.

Hey dude, the link which you have posted is the link for Stock ROM. I extracted the content of the zip and i found stock boot.img and stock recovery image. Its not a nandroid boot image or recovery image. They are stock images.

NANDROID RESTORE WITHOUT FASTBOOT?? - does it really work?

ok so im confused. I was reading the "how to flash cupcake" thread and came across this post by ridli. i tried following the instructions below but they failed, it seems like it works for him. if this truly works then there is no need for fastboot to reflash a nandroid back up. please help. thnx. BTW dudes .8 G build is awesome. (posted from my G1-modded w/root and gloss suite theme)
I tried the below on my G1 using recovery mode from JF-RC33 and i get:
error opening /sdcard/bu/system.img: no such file or directory.
I have checked the sdcard and its there, please help.
ridli said:
You can do the same without linux or any other SO.
1) Download cupcake
2) copy IMG files to a DIR in your SDCARD
3) reboot the phone in recovery mode
4) press ALT+X for go to console
5) #mount -a (for mount all partitions, without this you dont have flash_image becouse it is in /system/bin/)
6) use flash_image for flash the partitions
Code:
#flash_image system /sdcard/<dir>/system.img
#flash_image boot /sdcard/<dir>/boot.img
#flash_image userdata /sdcard/<dir>/data.img
7) #reboot
Optional: Do a backup of the phone with nandroid from the recovery mode, this do a img of system, data and boot partitions of your phone and copy to your sdcard. If you have any problem you can reflash your phone with you img.

It didn't work for me either, but it said I could not remount system as r/w because it was busy.
Anyway, I find instructions on how to do it via PC a lot easier. And if your phone would not boot, and you are stuck without backup, you can always pull it with adb.
Karolis:
System shouldn't be busy in recovery mode... also, it shouldn't be mounted if you're trying to write a fs image
And... no, if your phone can't boot, it can't boot. That includes starting adbd.
If you can enter recovery/spl, it's booting just fine.
flak0:
Have you checked the sdcard from the shell in android, or from your computer?
If it's the latter, you should make sure you can access the file from android.
I would recommend that you copy the flash_image binary out of /system (and /data), because you're rewriting that partition
Okay, don't use the forums when on a bad connection... my browser thought it lost connection, and decided to refresh, and send my post again... *Looks for a delete button*

And could a Gscript or similar be written to do something like this? I'd be psyched to have the option to restore my phone on the fly. And of course, if you could do that, what would stop you from having a Nandroid restore point saved for a number of different builds? I would love that.
Out of curiosity, and I've never tried this method myself, are you just entering the following exactly?
#flash_image system /sdcard/<dir>/system.img
#flash_image boot /sdcard/<dir>/boot.img
#flash_image userdata /sdcard/<dir>/data.img

Or are you changing <dir> to the directory of your nandroid backup? Because if you aren't it certainly won't work.

But it would be very unsafe to flash a fs image when the partition is actually mounted and your gscript is probably in it.
the only way is to do it in recovery mode.
one little problem though: i copied flash_image to /cache and chmod, but the shell kept telling me no such file. why is that?

flash_image is a binary, should not be moved. why did you move it to cache? of course it wont work...
Unfortunately, flash_image does not support writing yaffs2 images. Look in the code, there's no support for writing the OOB data to the NAND. If it was possible I would've integrated backup AND restore in nandroid 2.0, and JesusFrekes recovery image would then also have a restore option. But alas, it's not to be.
Perhaps in a future release I can find a C coder who can add the code to the flash_image source, so that this becomes possible. But I'm not even sure if that can be done (because you need kernel driver support as well).

Can't we just use nandwrite from mtd-utils to do this? I haven't tried it yet (I'll build it for ARM when I get home from work), but it appears to be the right tool for the job. I'm really interested in getting a menu-driven restore in my recovery image.

Full release post is here and I'll update at xda soon.

New version 3.06 Version 3.06
Thanks to you for the whole great work you've done!
We really appreciate that.
really GREAT WORK !!!!
Please, i need some info, how use adb on P500.
Absolute AWESOME!!!
Thanks!
Thanks !
works like a charm. I have installed your custom recovery. Backed up everything with nandroid, tried KeruROM, flashed back my original branded ROM from nandroid backup.
Everything works. I'm not going to try flash back my original recovery mtd, there is no reason to do it, but have a dd backup just in case. I don't know if it is safe to tamper with recovery mtd, cause I'm not sure if it is re-flashed after every system shutdown. I don't think so, cause I haven't found recovery.img in /system.
I have two questions regarding flashing custom recovery. I haven't used this command:
Code:
# mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
cause, i didn't found this script on my phone. Is it ok?
Second question: Is it mandatory to copy flash_image to /system/bin with this command?
Code:
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
Can't we use /data/local/tmp directory and running flash_image from there as we used in the process of rooting the phone? This way we don't have to remount /system in rw and do not have to modify it.
Now I'm going to explore ROM modding ;-)

Flash_image doesn't have to be there but for simplicity I put it there so it would be in ATH. The install-recovery.sh is an evil script that will rewrite a recovery on boot with stock recovery(that only is there on some phones after an official ota update) so rom markers please remove it if it exists.
Any chance the p509 optimus t is similar enough for this to work? I'm willing to be the guinea pig if it should work.

Its close enough it has a very good chance of working but will take a guinea pig to verify. Kernel should be close enough to try. Only differences I saw in the ramdisk of p500 & p509 was model number and lang of en GB and en Us repectively. I had a bad/corrupt dump to work off of on the p509/T. I could use a good dump source with a md5sum to verify its not corrupted in uploading/downloading.
make sure you do this 1st to backup your stock recovery
from terminal or adb shell
Code:
dd if=/dev/mtd/mtd2 of=/sdcard/recovery-dump-T.img bs=4096
please upload that dump for me with a md5 too and I'll work on an official.
Can it be done without root? As normal user?
Thanks of all to drellisdee
I want to advertise that the custon recovery file is no more available at Media fire link that suggest us.
Waiting that the file will be restored is there someone that can upload it???
Thank's of all!!!
Are you just wanting kernel & recovery dumps, because I think I've already changed most other things on my system
Installs, starts off saying E:Bad boot message "
Button layout is correct.
Usb mounting works.
Wipe appears to have worked.
Backup fails with Error:Run 'nandroid-mobile.sh' via adb!
I was looking for just the custom recovery (recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img.zip). Now it's available again!!!!
I think that i 've to apply it anyway.
Then if you say that some new rom and kernel are incoming it could be great!!!!
I hope to learn the necessary to help in development ... in this time i accept your works...

You must be rooted (I assume z4root or universal android root works)
then either using terminal (grab terminal app from market) or using adb.
Grab the recovery.img and drop it into sdcard via usb or adb push.
Open terminal and type su and then flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
or if using adb, its adb shell and then su and then flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Note: I am not the best at writing noobie guides but hopefully it helps

Anyone have a idea on how to get back into recovery? I have it installed but have tried holding every button to get me back and nothing kinda sucks since I have been testing new mods for this and cant get to my backup because the first shot at the mod was a fail.

Aside from stock(rooted) dump, there is nothing, I'll work with havic to get a rooted dump with google apps(market mostly) working correctly.
Besides that there is nothing else from my end for now. I personally don't like telechip tablets, bad experience from a gentouch :X
Also telechip company are retards and don't release kernel source, it'd help developers optimize a 2.1 rom and also be able to port kernel to a newer one for 2.2
I can see that this model gained popularity this black Friday. We are just now starting to see android tablets hit " Joe User ". I think that the telechip tabs will become popular so long as the price is on point. Thanks for all you do.
what exactly is this recovery for?
does installing this offer me additional features, or is it merely what we would restore to in case of disaster?

For now it is a good way to backup your unit so that if you screw it up you can go back. In the future people will make images for it. Hopefully someday android 2.2
Which version of flash_image tool is needed to flash this recovery or is the tool stock on the tablet?
EDIT: figured it out. stock. Looking through the dump now =)

If you try and recover from the backup that is in the link you may or may not get a error. The error is md5 mismatch. So the recovery fails to install.
What needs to be done is need to have busybox installed then shell in and run the following commands.
This has to be ran from the dir. that contains the backup files.
Which will more than likely be similar to this
/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2010-12-01.20.41.18
#busybox md5sum -c nandroid.md5
boot.img: OK
cache.img: OK
data.img: OK
recovery.img: OK
system.img: OK
# reboot recovery
reboot recovery
Once in clockwork then run a recovery.
If you have a Issue let me know I will try my best to get you some answers.

Worked for me
I got it working by doing the following.
1. Download and installed "Android Terminal Emulator" on to the device.
2. Download and installed Z4Root 1.3.0.apk from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
3. Run it and pressed the "Permanent Root" button. It took a bit and it auto rebooted.
4. Place the recovery.img on the root of my sd card. (Razor950's recovery.img is from post#1 on this thread.)
5. Opened "Android Terminal Emulator".
6. Entered the following.
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
7. Locked everything up for about 5 min and it went back to # prompt when it was done.
8. I powered off the device.
9. After it turned off I pressed and held the back button then pressed the power button. Kept holding it until you see clockworkMod v2.5.1.3. (If it says Android it's too late.)
I have a question myself what is sd-ext on clockwork? Also is there a way to do a selective backup? Just system with no data?
Thanks.
Thanks for your procedure, will try it when I receive my tablet.
Regarding your question about sd-ext, it's a partition of your sdcard. One will be in fat32 and the other in ext2 or ext3. Usually ext2 is used when you have app2sd or 12sd+. The purpose of this is to have more apps in install by installing them on your ext partition instead of internal memory. I use it for my HTC desire (smartphone)
Regarding your second question, I don't know anyway of doing a backup without data but pretty sure it's possible, for example, if you go in your Android do a factory reset. reboot in recovery then do your backup. Not sure if there's another way to do it
Yezir!

Can you see the recovery.img on your sd card from a file manger app like Astro? If so when your in the terminal can you cd to /sdcard? If so can you enter ls -l recovery.img? Check the size to make sure it is all there.
I have anther question myself.
At cobyusa.com/?p=prod&prod_num_id=10498&pcat_id=1013 there is a firmware update. in the update.zip in system in the build.prop file i see a line that says "ro.build.version.incremental=eng.enzo.20101125.200217". I notice that the build number on the device says "MID7015 1.6a_20101105-2". Looks like they may have changed somethings but not sure what. What would be bet best way to figure out what they changed?
I tried to run it from clockwork and i get
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "tcc8900" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "tcc8900"
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
To install this update would I just have to unroot my device? Not sure how to look what the current ro.build.product is now.

Ok, so i have a fresh new stock of 21e flashed onto my phone. Rooted with no errors, and I have Clockwork ROM Manager installed.
If I use the app to boot into recovery my phone just automatically Wipes all data then loads back up as if a fresh install was done, so I thought I would check the problem out myself (Power and vol.down), and the only options I have in the Clockwork Boot Menu are as follows:
Android system recovery <3e>
Confirm wipe of all user data?
THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE.

If I go back one page the only options I have are as follows:

I can not go back any further, they are my only options in boot recovery of which I find extremely odd. (Until this is sorted I can not install a new ROM/Kernel and fix my network)
Any help would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards.

That's not ClockworkMod.
That's the stock Android recovery.
ah lol (embarrassing)
Thanks though... ok so it seems that my problem is that the copious amount of things that I try to install clockwork boot, it just wont happen. Any ideas?

Did your guide word for word, all went successfully.
However.... I can use root applications on the device etc...
Though it appears I can no longer get the clockwork boot anymore?

Yeah that's what I was using when it used to work, however now when I do it, It just "deletes all user data". Obviously because it is not having any response from the Clockwork recovery boot, and goes straight into:

Is it being flashed properly?
Try doing the flashing manually. Download the recovery image from www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager (choose touch for P920, nothing else), then open adb in cmd and type the following commands with phone plugged in:
adb push <image name>.img /data/local/tmp
adb shell su -c "dd if=/data/local/tmp/<image name>.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 bs=4096"
adb shell "rm /data/local/tmp/<image name>.img"
Replace <image name> with the filename of the img. If everything checks out, you should be able to boot into CWM. If you get errors, post them here
(I took the commands from The Dark Lestat's batch file, props go to him. I was too lazy to search for it Don't judge me, it's 12.30am here)

It's not using ROM Manager to BOOT into recovery.
It's using ROM Manager to install ClockworkMod that was the issue.
Very weird indeed. I also have flashed yhe 21E rom from LG. Next I rooted the phone and installed CWM touch. I have no problems with it.

Thanks, either/or this doesn't matter at this stage, I need to able to boot into recover for this or even clockwork to do it anyway. I'll keep this in mind nonetheless.

[Recovery]CWM Recovery&Bootmenu 2ndinit for Motorola XT300(Spice)

Do it at your risk!
Hi,everybody.
I had successfully ported CWM recovery&Bootmenu 2ndinit for spice, which allows us to use custom rom.
Now,you have two ways to use CWM recovery. One is entering CWM recovery through bootmenu, the another way is entering CWM recovery through stock recovery(Fake flash update zip).
Method 1:Through bootmenu
First of all,you need to root your spice. And then install bootmenu.
Download the bootmenu.tar file(attached). And push it into /sdcard/
Turn on usb debugging on your phone. And use the following commands in adb:
Code:
C:/> adb shell
$ su
# mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
# mkdir /system/bootmenu
# cd /system/bootmenu
# busybox tar -xf /sdcard/bootmenu.tar
# rm /system/bin/charge_only_mode
# busybox ln -s /system/bootmenu/binary/bootmenu /system/bin/charge_only_mode
# sync
# mount -o remount,ro /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
# exit
The bootmenu will be installed.
Restart your device once.
Using Boot Menu:
Turn your phone off.
Press the Power Button.
After 1-10 seconds, the red led on your phone will light up for just 3 seconds (Still while the Motorola logo is being displayed).
Exactly when the led lights up, press the volume down button.
You will see the BootMenu, use the Volume Button to navigate up and down, and the power button to select an item.
Then you can select enter CWM recovery.(Someone say CWM's backup&restore cannot work, you can use method 2 for it)
Method 2:Through stock recovery(Fake flash zip)
I found that we can use CWM recovery with stock recovery leak(Fake flash update zip, like OpenRecovery),but this leak is only existed in SESGC_U3_10.10.0_RT firmware.
I have dumped this recovery(Attached file:recovery.img).And flash it by fastboot. It works well with SESLA_U3_01.72.0 firmware.
And then to flash a fake update.zip(Attached file:update.zip) from the root of your sdcard, you will enter CWM recovery!
By the way,if you want to port CM7 for spice, you need to use 2ndinit for your froyo/gingerbread,because it has locked bootloader.
I have compiled CM7 for it,and it can boot up but stuck in white screen after CM bootanimation. If you want to continue my work, you can checkout my github.

Hello!
Mr GentryLamp, congratulations done, I do not see many people who understand Android programming interested in XT300, you're the man!
I performed all the procedures above, installed bootmenu (but renamed the "charge_only_mode" as "charge_only_mode.bin" the backup purposes), I installed the old recovery with flash_image (command "flash_image recovery path_of_recovery _.img") and put the update.zip on the root of SD.
I can not perform with nand backup recovery from bootmenu (advance notice, and obviously non-functional), and the second way does not work (the leakage update.zip).
When trying to nand backup the nand, the device is the screen backuping ("SD memory free... Backup system...") For about an hour, and then the screen goes white, and end.
You know how I could accomplish this nand backup? You got on your device? Do you know any script that I can use for it?
If you need more information, or something that I test on my device, I place myself at your disposal.
Sorry my english too, Google Translate help much Brazilians.
Hug.

I haven't confirmed whether NAND backup will work in bootmenu, but it works well in fake update.zip way.
If your firmware version is SESLA_U3_01.72.0,you need to boot the phone into fastboot mode(bule screen, pressing Vol-up&Vol-down while the phone boots up),and using fastboot to flash recovery.img.
BTW:Some firmware(such as SESGC_U3_10.10.0_RT) do not allow fastboot. You can see some warnings in fastboot bule screen.
More questions...sorry

Thanks for reply man o/
My firmware is SESLA_U3_01.72.0, nand backup really not work on first method, and in the second method, also not .
I followed a guide like this: [ht tp:// forum . xda-developers . com/showthread.php?t=918275]. I believe the command is flash_image the same effectiveness as the fastboot, because I could run the CWM_recovery from the update.zip (you said that this gap is only SESGC_U3_10.10.0_RT recovery firmware, and I do not use - no clue of what it is, just know mine, and Chinese MONSTER).
But I saw now that you've lost your XT300 and therefore believe that there is no possibility to test or you do something for it. But anyway, I am grateful and even my disposal device testing, if desired.
Taking advantage ... would be able to put an 'if' that is, the low volume was not pressed, he continued with the 'charge_only_mode', so that the battery could be charged with the device off? I would also like to know if you know if it is possible to make a nand backup from a script, with the connected device, and if you have some kind of script ...
Excuse me for asking so many questions to you is that I know someone who knows and is as interested as you.
Thank you!
Hug.

The phone will not enter charge only mode when you install bootmenu.
In method 2,NAND Backup&Restore works well when I use spice,I'm sorry that it doesn't work with some phone.

I understand that only with bootmenu the device not charge without boot but, my question was would like to know if one can apply this procedure to boot: power button pressed > magenta led light and Motorola logo > {(before bootanimation and bootinstructions) volume down button pressed while red led light? "yes? -> bootmenu" | "no? -> execute the real charge_only_mode binary", execute charge_only_mode.bkp for example, in my case, since renamed the original charge_only_mode for subsequent restoration of boot } > boot. Understand my question? :s
But if there is, I made two scripts, one for installation and uninstallation of another bootmenu (if someone wants I can post), but if you do not give to run the above algorithm, I use the update.zip CWM_recovery the same, so I can recharge my device is switched off, while I find I try to do a custom for 2ndinit.
Mr GentryLamp, you said above, in the opening thread, it has ported a CM7 for XT300 and it crashed after the Motorola logo. I some time ago, I replaced the file libGLES_android.so (in the folder / system / lib / egl), trying to enable the GPU, I fear there is not even in the chipset of XT300 and while on the Motorola logo, the screen was white, blinking. You keep intact the lib folder? Forgive me if I did wrong or very noob question, because I have no expertise in ROM switches, ports, CM, etc...
Regarding the nand backup, searched about it here, to see if I can find at least one script for it, because then I can become more peaceful to test changes more dangerous, not bothering with RDS, SBF ...
Thanks again bro!
Is there a way to port to other Motorola devices? I have a DROID x that I need to try this on because it is stuck in safe mode. How did you port this to flash in stock recovery?
Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk 2
Great job, but I think this work is not useful because we don't have a custom Rom for this phone and the stock Rom sucks, I have this xt300 from my carrier iusacell Mexico, and is so slow and to f**king buggy, if is thera a chance to have a good froyo or gingerbread stable Rom will be perfect this phone have some potential but is too capable by the Motorola software
I hope we can some time get a good Rom for this great and cheap phone
