Just got my TB and want to root to get rid of the bloat. WHich do you guys recommend to do this?
PS. Anyone looking to buy a Captivate?
There is only 1 root method, and you can do it yourself manually or do the "1-click" option.
Sell it on eBay or craigslist, that's what I always do with my old phones.

Yup, so far there is just one method.
But I used dbzfanatic's Easyroot + S-off to get the job done. Real simple. On Step 3, adb didn't "catch" on first click (just clicked again and voila!), otherwise it was flawless.

I recommend Swappa to sell your phone. Sold my Evo there over the weekend. Smoothest sale I've ever done online.

I just bought a Droid 2 Global and I am wondering should I root it, what benefits does rooting give me for this phone?
It basically gives you super user access. It is pretty easy to do now thanks to some great guides on here. Most people find it is worth the effort. It all depends on what you want to do with your phone.
dun root it if u r not sure wat r u doin
read more about "what after rooting"
+1 if you're not sure what you are doing, do some research before you decide to root

Are the roms for this phone pretty decent? Any good Gingerbread's out there because if not I don't think I would find it worth it to root it

Oh I know HOW to root I just want to make sure it's worth it to go through it
If you ever need/want wireless tether or want to get rid of bloatware, rooting is definitely worth the price of admission. Plus with Z4root and the SBF, it is SUPER easy to root and SUPER easy to unroot the D2G.
Good luck!

ill be honest I have no idea what sbf is lol
Find the app Z4 Root, install it and open it and that's it.
I un-rooted my d2g just because I wasn't gonna flash a rom, or freeze the bloatware since it doesn't bother me and I don't use it.

Wireless tether
In my opinion, the wireless tether option is worth its weight in gold. Love it. I am a student an often have found myself in search of wireless service on my laptop. Now, it is everywhere as long as my phone is with me.
Yes you should definitely root. I would recommend z4root if you go about doing it because it is easy and I don't believe that it will mess up your phone

I downloaded and rooted with z4 on mine and I still couldn't delete the pre loaded crap that verizon reloads. What's the trick? And how do I use the tether ?
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA Premium App
to delete the preloaded crap, use titanium backup, but i recommend freezing apps so you could update later, i use app freezer for root for that. to tether download the wireless tether app.

That's why I rooted. Have the Evo and wanted the option of wireless tether. Switched to Verizon today. Getting the Thunderbolt for myself, the D2 for the wife and the Fascinates for my kids. Definitely gonna root them all. Like the options of getting games! Don't want to pay $20 for hotspot if I want to use it.
Quick question... Is everything in here compatible with the new Xoom Family available in Best Buy?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Motorol...909487&skuId=3639159&st=xoom family&cp=1&lp=1
I'm not quite sure what the difference is between the original one and the new Family edition, that's why I ask... I don't want to risk bricking my new Xoom
Almost certainly nothing for the original Xoom will work for the Family Media Edition (F-ME for short). This is due to different battery specs. Somebody that is feeling brave/stupid can try to prove me wrong.
the only difference i see is different chassis and the Family edition has an HD IPS screen. which i want to know if it would be possible to replace the hd screen i have with the family edition IPS one.

adb reboot-bootloader can't find device. It appears that adb has been disabled. Turning on with pwr-volUp results in device being seen as needing apx drivers when connected via USB. I'm out of my league with nvflash...

Enabling adb should be a piece of cake after we gain root... My Xoom still doesn't arrive, I'll get it by Friday... I've been thinking; most of the root methods are based on Rage against the cage, I even remember an APK that after installation it rebooted the phone and the phone was rooted... I also realized that having a locked bootloader isn't guarantee that root isn't achievable, 3 months passed before the Atrix 4G's bootloader was unlocked and still we got root before it happened.
I just need to know where to look and I'll do it.
Please help me

I know root often occurs before unlock. That is another concern of mine with this tablet: Will I ever be able to load custom roms on it? We just don't know yet I reckon.

I don't have the original one so I can't really compare, sorry
Would you please at least open it and get some Hi Def pictures from inside ?
Many of us are interested about the new IPS screen from this version eventually.
If we will be able to find the manufacturer and read the specs maybe a replacement for our "original" screen will make us the happier Xoom owners ever.
Sorry my poor english

I just come over from an iPhone with the Skyrocket and just was wondering what is considered bloatware on this phone? I see some AT&T applications but what else could bog down the phone?
Thanks,

Ya, I know I'm lazy but I've always used one click method of one type or another to root my phones. None currently available for N5?
Unrelated question but why does N5 cost so much less at google store than at tmobile?

why do you need a 1 click root, its a nexus..
1. fastboot oem unlock
2. fastboot flash a custom recovery
3. flash the su binaries
4. reboot and profit.
unrelated answer.. its googles phone, it costs them less than it costs tmobile to buy it.

CF-Auto-Root is pretty much 1 click. You can find it somewhere on N5 board, sorry dont remember which section, but it's easy to find.

you can probably still talk them into giving you a free sim, tmobile is easy like that. especially for a new account. anyways, even for $10, they would gladly get you a sim. being a company that just got rid of contracts altogether, they dont care if you bring your own phone.
Just keep an eye out on slickdeals or other deal sites like that. T-Mo often provides free SIMs (I got a couple about 2 months ago)

A sim. They were free for a good while during the last couple months. I'd imagine they would do it again soon.

Nexus Root Toolkit I always use it, it's easy but like other said there's others way to root/unroot.
The last one click i used unlocked bootloader and installed custom recovery and superuser without me doing anything but downloading drivers and connecting phone to computer.

What do you need a "one-click method" for the Nexus 5? The Nexus has to be the easiest device on the planet to root. Unlock the bootloader, install TWRP/CWM, flash the SuperSU binary. The hardest part is installing the SDK and drivers on your PC, which you have to do if you want to mod your device anyway, and even so it isn't that hard. Save a kitten.
I'm new to HTC, just got my M8 today actually. I am most likely going to cough up the $25 for sunshine's root & unlock. However, I just have 2 questions.
In the case that I may need to send my phone in for repair…
A)Is it possible to go back to being locked & unrooted, once doing sunshine's method?
And if so,…
B) Will I be forced to pay another $25 to root & unlock again after?
Thanks in advance!!
Yes and yes
Wow, forced to pay twice...that's some BS.

Ya it's a little rough, I think it should be on a per user basis, or maybe allow the app to work for a full year or so.
Still better than not having s-off, at least you'll know if you have to get a new device they'll definitely update the app to stay current with the firmware.
