My Niki is getting a little, er, awkward at handling MMS at the moment, I'll explain :
It does seem incredibly slow at downloading/opening MMS, and invariably the messages are nothing more than plain text (some friends who have bizarre text plans).
I can be in the middle of writing a text message, and then an incoming (text) MMS is received, and the phone is basically useless whilst the message is coming in.
And earlier it decided that it wasn't going to open any of the MMS that had been received this morning, would only open SMS.
Left it for a few minutes, no change, so decided to do a full power off reboot. Started back up again, and it had deleted all the messages that had been received in the last 10 or so minutes.
Any suggestions on what I could do to improve the general SMS/MMS handling? The phone is running on the stock Orange rom.
ps. please don't suggest using pocketcm instead - it doesn't seem to be able to send SMS at all on my Niki
Hey everyone,
I currently have an AT&T Captivate on the Telus network. I had to manually put in the APN setting and stuff. I have a problem with the SMS portion of the phone. If I send an SMS using the messaging app or handscent sms it shows the sms as sending even though it has been sent. And when I restart the phone it sends all of the text messages again. It is very annoying as sometimes it will resend about 30 texts to the same person. What is wrong with the phone?
I have the same problem sometimes with handscent. Usually it's only 1 or 2 tho

Click to collapse
Go under 'Settings', 'Send Message Settings', and check the box for 'Prevent Resend'. This stops that problem with Handcent SMS.
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA running Android 2.3
just tried, it would still send the message again after i restart the phone. any other ideas?
i have to delete the whole sms thread to make this not happen. Which is kind of annoying. So I am hoping someone has the same issue as me and has fixed it lol
I am a life-long BlackBerry user, but I recently switched carriers and thought I'd like to give Windows a shot now. I bought a Touch Pro 2 just to start, and I can not get the darn thing to send an SMS. I have no problems recieving SMS, I can send both picture and video messages just fine, I can even reply to SMS, but can not initiate an SMS at all. When I go into the application, type my message, hit 'send' the send key does light up, but does not even attempt to send- the curser in the message just keeps blinking and nothing happens. I tried installing a 3rd party SMS app, but when I try to send though it I get a 'check your network availability' error. I sat on the phone with US Cellular for 4.5 hour while they tried everything from restting the device to restting my settings, and could not resolve the issue. I have tried in portrait veiw, landscape view, everything. It is very frustrating, because I need to be able to send messages asap. I have searched everything, from hotkey apps to SMS apps and can't find anything anywhere that does not require me to use the native 'send' button. If anyone could offer any advice, it would be so much appreciated!
(Meant to post this in the Touch Pro 2 section)...
Nevermind...never occured to me to remove the SIM card. Problem resolved.
Maybe someone can help me...
I'm running Thundershed 1.6 and using the stock messaging app. I've also been using Llama for awhile now and have been playing around with actions to turn off data (similar to JuiceDefender). I have it set so that Llama waits 1 minute after my screen turns off and then turns off data. When the screen turns on, mobile data is turned back on.
What I am noticing (don't know when this started) is that I do not get regular, standard SMS messages when the screen is off. As soon as I turn the screen on... I get the message. I was under the impression that SMS had nothing to do with my mobile data. What is JD doing differently that allowed me to get my texts when screen was off?
MMS messages are retrieved via mobile data. SMS messages use cell towers. As long as you don't have it set up to turn off cell reception and the other person is sending it as an SMS, you should still receive your texts. I've noticed that sometimes iPhone users texts come through as an MMS even if there's no picture.
I have problem with delayed text messages since new year. This phone is working on rooted Android 2.3.3 around 1,5-2 years. I'm using GoPro SMS app for text messages. Sometimes I can message with some people without "lags" but after x sms sent next text message from this friend is delayed from 10min to 2h+. As I know after I turn off phone, remove battery and insert, turn on I receive delayed messages. Other times after someone call I receive also delayed messages. On other phones this SIM card is working very well, no any lags with sms. Is there any way to fix this problem without reinstalling/updating Android?
