Swype works fine with Handcent. Pretty sure we're all using the same version of Swype.

Use the attached MMS.apk, use titanium to uninstall your current messaging app, and then install that.
It is AOSP messaging app. I personally hate handcent's look.
I'm using flex T9. I actually like it better than swype.

Just installed SlideIt and it seems to be working fine. Only thing it's not performing auto cap after you complete a sentence. Wondering if the pay version does. After only playing with it a few minutes i kinda like it better than swype.
Is there anyway to eliminate all the extra languages that come with this keyboard. It sucks up over 17 mb of memory. Would be great if we could erase all languages we don't need.
Thanks,
Vinny
Try this one, it works great with no flaws, the only thing missing is it is a version without the voice button...but it works flawless.

Hey everyone, just wanted to know what your favorite Android keyboard replacement is. What is it? Also, could you include a .apk for me to DL if it's not in the market or if it's htc_ime, since I already have it. Thanks for the help!

I like SlideIt and ShapeWriter. Swype beta is closed so use these both, pretty much the same. I think SlideIT is great, better word prediction of the 2, but lacks the ability to type numbers od punctuation by long pressing a key. Plus it its $8.
ShapeWriter is free and allows for the long press, so I use it. But the word prediction isn't as good as SlideIT (which was rarely wrong). If SlideIt would add this feature, it would be perfect. Will see how Swype is when it comes out, but these are good.
Before that I used Bettter Keyboard, but I like the swiping input style.
swype is the best!
swype
finally starting to love this. took a while to get used to it, but it really does work well. once it's out of beta, i definitely recommend downloading it.
Okay yeah, I've been using Swype beta (the one they officially released from their website) and my only issue with it is the lack of auto punctuation in many places. I'll try ShapeWriter too but I don't wanna spend any $, especially that much, on a keyboard. Has anyone else tried out the Themed HTC_IME's from XDA? I'm using one now and I love it, but I know that I input text faster with Swype. Any others?
Sent from my Droid using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Im currently using smart keyboard pro. It's multi touch, has several themes, and gives you a candidate bar with suggestions while using the droid's hardware keyboard.
Swipe is good too, but I mainly only use it for one handed operation

Right now I've been popping back and forth between Smart Keyboard Pro and jonasl's modified version of HTC_IME.
If you haven't tried the modded HTC_IME I would definitely start using it (it's less laggy and has a buncha new features). It has the best suggestion and correction of any of the non-swipers. Smart Keyboard Pro is still the fastest for me, though, and has the most features.
I have the same one as HTC_IME but I am trying to get the Swype keyboard on Mytouch 3g.
I have Mytouch 3g... Do u have an apk file cuz I have been looking around but I found a trial only n they are not working or are for another model of phone.

i agree. i'm addicted to it now.
i use the SwiftKey beta (i'ld post a link to their page but apparently im to new to do so).... its a real nice predictive text, that doesn't just try to do the current word but as it learns it will try and do the next word you going to write
I use smart keyboard pro because it has text substitution. For example, I can type xxx and have it pop in a long email address I have set up in the prefs. Saves a ton of typing.

Woohoo! I wanted to make an announcement that although Swype is still in beta, it is now available for Free for Android owners (that meet requirements) and are accepting new beta signups!
Got the following update from the official Swype website:
Swype is pleased to offer an (updated) Android Beta!
Here are the details:
* In English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, and introducing French and an early, *UNSTABLE* preview release of Chinese Pinyin
* Now includes support for Double-Tap-to-Edit, Cursor Restore, and Voice-to-Text (requires Google Voice Search be included in your system firmware)
* HVGA, WVGA, and WVGA854 Resolutions - don't worry we'll detect this automatically. Sorry, no QVGA
* Limited End User Support - mostly via our forum
* If your phone came pre-installed with Swype
DO NOT download this beta (it won't work)

I have an in-depth writeup of Swype at http://jonsuh.com/2010/11/swype-never-tap-to-type-on-your-phone-again/
You must still register at http://beta.swype.com/ to receive the link for the download.
Thanks, but why is this in the development section?

Actually, I'm glad you figured that out. I changed from a Desire Z port to one of Lou's (which is great anyway). There have been other instances this has come up for me as I usually turn Mobile mode off.
Thanks!

any other Droid Inc users having issues with this beta?
Everytime I reboot my phone the swybe keyboard loses swype ability, still allows touch type though, and I have to reinstall to regain it.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I've had that issue as well.
The fix I found was to switch the input method back to the stock keyboard and switch back to swype. It should start working like normal again without having to reboot and reinstall swype.

I had this problem no not than a week ago. I don't believe I for anything different, but its working upon reboot now lol. Rather odd. But yeah, just change input method then change it back to Swype as someone else said.
Sent from my Droid Incredible running Myn's Warm Two Point Two RLS5.
Yes the reboot phone-no longer Swyping issue is all over the Swype forum and is well known by their development team. It's pretty annoying, but the switching input mode "fix" works everytime.

Nope. I still have it, and I think that it is still a known issue with Swype. It doesn't happen too often on my install of CM7, but it has happened a few times. It is annoying but I love Swype, so since it's so intermittent, I can deal with it.
Agreed. It's just one of things you know you're going to have to do when you reboot.
I found another way around said issue. When Swype loses it's ability, long press>input method>chose another keyboard>long press>input method>chose Swype. Fixed.
Im using a themed swype that i found on someones twitter even though im in the beta, the official beta swype wont work after a reboot like mentioned above, but the themed one had no issues when rebooting.
Its based off an older build, but working is better than newest
thank you pieter3d
I used Swype for a long time, but ended up switching to SwiftKey for the day-to-day because it was more accurate and less annoying. I still love swyping, I just wish it had predictive capabilities.
Then I started flashing hella ROMs and now I can't get Swype to activate properly on MIUI, because MIUI doesn't disable keyboards the way that Swype wants it to. This forced me off of Swype... not to mention Swype having the no-longer-swyping-after-rebooting or no-longer-swyping-because-of-random-bull**** issues.
As soon as SwiftKey implements swiping, Swype is toast. It's up to the Swype devs to fix their hamfisted licencing issues. And while they're at it, implement skinning and design prettier skins.
Here are two of the onscreen keyboards that I use on a daily basis, swype is also a great alternative but posts with swype links have been shut down by the mods so the best thing to do is to sign up for the beta program directly here or use google
Of course to install these for now you can go to the thread created by me on xda here to sideload the .apks
These are both being used currently on my 2.2.1 Rom with zero issues.
Thanks to all that have made these programs possible, we truly appreciate the hard work.

Swype is nice but inputting email addresses and passwords are somewhat of a hassle.
I prefer HTC_IME as the tap to text option of the two because of the word prediction software that is always on point.
Its hard to compare swype vs. the one above because they are completely different ways of using your onscreen keyboard.
The HTC ime mod is the best. I don't like the clunky stock keyboard the inspire had. Plus the layout was shifted from other virtual keyboards. The mod keyboard give you the ability to customize so much. Including the layout.

The Gingerbread KB worked fine on my HTC Dream / G1.
Thats weird, I didnt get around installing it on the Inspire yet so maybe Ill have to edit the OP and take that link to the app off if more continue to report the FC.
For those having issues just unistall it and use the other options listed please.

I just noticed that it FC's when you have different languages enabled in the settings. If you don't tinker with the settings at all (default) it will work, but I mainly write in English and Spanish and is the main reason why I installed it to begin with...
never mind it FC's as default as soon as you try to type the first letter...
trying the one on the market in a minute...
Tried the one on the market and it even has more features than the one in the forums, I highly recommend it...

We cant post up swype .apks, its prohibited.
i understand that, and thats totally fine...but how the heck do i install it? i got swypeinstaller.apk to install fine. but after that it attempts to download and install the swype.apk from the server and it tries to install it, and thats where it gets blocked. so im trying to figure out how to install the swype.apk that was downloaded through the swype installer, when i cant find any temp file or anything that just says swype.apk

Download this.
How did you install swype, in bullet point. Mine went like this
-registered on swype's website
-downloaded swypeinstaller.apk
-used sideloading wonder machine to install swypeinstaller.apk
-opened swype installer app
-logged into swype's server
-downloaded the 2.5MB swype (english/spanish)
-got the install blocked error, gave option to go to settings or cancel (obviously settings does nothing because we cannot check "unknown sources")
I'm not new to this stuff, and i've had HTC phones before, so i really doubt i did anything wrong, and i cannot accept the fact that the phone i purchased on launch day is blocked more than anyone elses phone that also got it on launch day. Im not being a jerk, but the only people that can help are the awesome devs on XDA, so help lol prease
So I've seen through posts that users are having mixed results with Swype, some have no problem while others have the auto space problem (such as I do). I miss Swype and can't stand not using it. My question being, has anyone found a fix or hack to get it to work and fix the auto space bug?
I know I can use slide-it and other market apps but I've tried them and they just aren't the same.

I just like having normal keyboard but people change there minds all the time
I had problems with auto spacing until I flashed cm7 pre-alpha and had to re-download swype beta. Now everything works great.
I still like my gingerbread keyboard, but sometimes I'm lazy and swype is in. It's nice to have the option.
Sent from my Thunderbolt running Cyanogen Mod 7 and drod cm 1.8ghz kernel.
I am running Weapon and my wife's phone has stock rooted and they both have the same version of swype. Coming from my other rooted phone where I had to install swype beta, this version on the G2X seems to suck something fierce. So I am guessing it is TMobile's version of swype? The swype beta straight from swype gave you word choices in a small black bar above the keyboard while typing. It also allowed you to touch an incorrect word and gave you options in the same small black bar. This tmobile version pops up a huge box over my entire text message and to select a word for change I have to set the box to always appear.
My question is, is it safe to uninstall this version of swype and use the swype beta version?
Yep. You should be fine.

You'll have to use titanium backup to uninstall the swype already on the phone. Then do yourself a huge favor and reboot the phone before you install the new swype otherwise you'll get a ****spam of swype wrath when you try to use the new one.
Sweet, thanks.
