Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

personally i think the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996 is the best method, as i have the same bootloader as you, but i ran across this thread while reading the threads, and i suggest you do the same..... READ until your eyes hurt and then keep on reading!!! there are many videos out there, but if you cant follow simple written instructions the video will do you no good, because you will miss something along the way and end up with a paper weight! just reserch and USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION, and the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866175, and keep reading lol, i cant say that enough!

With video and everything. They couldn't had made it any easier. I root and gain s=off in 15 minutes or less everytime.

Alot of the methods you will see on here do not have "video" to go along with them. To be frank about it these are fool proof methods and really don't require a video tag along. I've personally rooted my phones using the Cyanogen(mod) method, the ./gfree method and the "root.sh" method. They are work correctly when entered correctly.

This is the simplest method to follow how ever it will not install the superCID that the ./gfree will bring with it, nor will it install the Engineering screen so if you should have problems mounting a section of the phone you cannot flash specific images.

The unlockr method did give me 0.85.2007 eng hboot. The unlockr method is a root.sh method. But I don't know what you mean by superCID.

The Super CID is the deal that removes the SIM card lock and includes some other goodies. Basically it's the ./gfree.
And if you just download the root folder and use that to root the phone it will not install the E-HBoot.
and according to This they've removed the HBoot install process.

I was told that 0.85.2007 was eng hboot, which is what I'm on. Or am I wrong? SuperCID is a different story for me.

Until yesterday I had never used ADB. Within 2 hours of sitting down, I had a rooted myt4g using the gfree method. All it takes is a little patience, and reading.

.85.2007 is the engineering HBoot.
the early post that TheUnlockr had posted did update the Engineering Screen. That was the method that i first followed but for one reason or another they removed it and only follow the Script method.

Hmm I see. I'm guessing I got it before they took it off then.

It's the norm for AT&T android phones. you can either use the Sideload wonder machine or just push whatever you want installed via adb

Yes. You have to change a db file.
Okay, I am kinda new to this whole root manipulation thing (I did some when I had the original Tilt), but this is exactly the topic I was looking for. I want to install Applanet, but it won't let me because it was not found in the "Market." How would I take care of this. Is there a step-by-step process to do this that someone wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks!
Download the .apk on to your SD card, then follow these directions step by step:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/and...40770-ac-sideload-wonder-machine-windows.html
You also need the HTC drivers and Microsoft .Net framework, as explained in the instructions.

How do I get this .NET Framework version?
EDIT: I'm downloading the 4.0 .NET Framework now. I'll see if it works.
I'm so proud! I got it installed! I had to figure out a couple of things, and why it was giving me certain messages...but, I guess I'm smarter than I give myself credit for. LoL
(ie. I didn't have the .apk file where the SWM was located, and I thought the debugging was on, but clearly it wasn't. LoL)
So, I'm good to go for future installs of non-market apps!
Nice work, it can sometimes be a process but it's very rewarding once things start working like they should have in the first place (thanks AT&T ). Congrats!

I just tried this method and it worked pretty good. it will say it failed both times but after rebooting the phone the non market apps will download and install without a problem, without having to use swm. May not be the best way, just another way.

You move (push) an app that you want to install from your computer to your phone through the use of adb commands.
Ok, so I have been using the Sideload wonder machine to install apps I downloaded from other sources. I just used SWM to install the Applanet app. But the ATT setting on the Inspire will not let it download apps. It there a way to get around this? I don't really want to root if I don't have to. I have rooted other phones in the past, but the rooting of this phone seems a little more complicated.

The only way to be able to install apps FROM the phone that were not from the Android market is to root.
Thank you. Looks like I have some reading to do about rooting...
I wonder what happens when amazon comes out with their android app market.
That is a damn good question.
I just spent the last 2 hours reading about rooting. It really looks intense. I have rooted a lot of other phones in the past, but they all seemed so cut and dry compared to the Inspire.

Hey honorlost84. You're on XP still right?
And to everyone else. Im not use to non-unrevoked ways. (As i did with my evo 4g) The powershell way, Does it or does it not need the SDK. Sense i saw it has the ADB, and to my understanding that all you need from the SDK anyway. I am his friend who rooted his moment, then he got the shift. I (as well as almost everyone else) am looking for the easiest ways. The powershell way seems easy to me as i think i got it working (without a shift connected.) I just wanted to make sure that if the SDK is needed or not. Please and thank you for answers.

The enterprising folks over at XDA-Devs have managed to make the life with your HTC handset a bit easier, outing v3 of the HTC Super Tool. The software is supposed to root, S-off, and unlock the bootloader on many popular HTC devices, like the HTC Sensation 4G or the EVO 3D.
The developer FRIGID says that theoretically it should work with all HTC handsets, as their firmware structure is similar. You need a few driver and software downloads, as well as well-charged battery, of course, as in all such cases, but other than that, the instructions in the source link are pretty straighforward.

Now you can root, S-off and unlock the bootloader of almost any HTC device like HTC Sensation, Evo Design 4g, Evo 4g, Evo 3d, Evo Shift, G2, MT3Gs, MT4G, MT4Gs, Inspire, Sensation, Incredible, Wildfire S and Amaze with the help of the application called HTC SUPER TOOL V3 created by FRIGID of XDA Developers Forum. Frigid said that it should also work on any HTC devices because they all have similar architecture.

I would go to Xda Home Page and click on "wiki". From there, select HTC Glacier, & then follow the downgrade guide. After successfully downgrading to Froyo, then (still in the wiki section), find the Ultimate S-off guide and follow it. You will use visionary to temp root, and gfree to get s-off, then visionary to perma root...at least that's what I did. It sounds complicated, but once you get all your files in place and installed on you pc & phone, it takes 10 minutes tops..
** First,I am all for rooting, and I am entirely comfortable doing it. However, if I were you, I would read some of peoples posts that have had issues, to make yourself familiar with the process, so that you might learn from what they did wrong. Just search the forums for downgrading..and rooting. Spend a couple hours reading, it is something I failed to do, and nearly messed up! It's only a suggestion, but it helps if you sorta understand what you are doing. I don't want you to brick your phone & think I talked you into jumping in too fast! Just realize that while I wouldn't hesitate to root a brand new one if I had it, THERE IS A CHANCE OF BRICKING YOUR DEVICE! **
Good Luck..

remove tampered** flag

Is there a way to remove the tampered flag? I unlocked my bootloader via htcdev. Will relocking and unrooting do the trick?
You need to unroot
Sent from my One X using xda premium
yes, unroot, that should do the trick with getting rid of the "tampered" sign. but your bootloader will say "re-locked," or something to that matter when relocking. Unfortunately there's no workaround for that as far as I know. Once it's unlocked, it will always either say unlocked or re-locked instead of just "locked"... just a heads up.
So my warranty is void no matter what?

Warranty MAY be void. Sheesh. Lock the boot loader, send it in for repair or whatever you need to do for your carrier. Unlocking the bootloader doesn't automatically void the warranty.
The first page on htc dev after you click on unlock bootloader says
It is our responsibility to caution you that not all claims resulting or caused by or from the unlocking of the bootloader may be covered under warranty

98.5 of the people at att or whatever carrier store won't try to boot your phone into boot loader the second they touch it. They usually just chalk it up as screwed and order a new one. Agreed, it wouldn't hurt to try. But if you want to go extreme, I've seen cases where people will completely brick their phone to the point where the bootloader could not accessed. So the people at at&t will deem it as a broken phone and order you a new one. unethical if you ask me, but phone carrier stores are even more unethical imo so its worth a try
