[Q] Any working video player for ARMv6 VFP CPUs? - Android Apps and Games

I have a SE x10 mini wich has a MSM7227 processor, wich is ARMv6 VFP CPU with Adreno 200 GPU. Like HTC Legend, and some other phones.
I've tried rockplayer, vplayer and moboplayer (in all versions when other build than arm6 vfp was aviable) and I have this problem:
1. If I use normal hardware decoding, the video does not play (blank screen) and the audio sounds bad and plays like 3 times faster.
2. If I use software decoding, the video and sound plays, but synchronization is lost and the framerate is not smooth.
Tested with several normal avi (xvid mp3) files.

All the players are more or less good..
What u need to do is re-code the video clip with following settings
Resolutions as pre your phone screen
video codec xvid or divx bitrate at 256
audio mp3 at 128
frame rate as per the original video
Think these settings should solve ur sync problems
cheer!!!!

problem is i dont have videos on my sd card,i stream them and when i do sound and picture dose not match,it is not sync.
i tried bsplayer, mxplayer, and manny more but only rock player did the job, unfortunaly he also is failing most of the time
i am trying to watch avi format videos.
i tought what if there was a plugn for chainfire 3d to help us with playing such videos ?

Finally a player that is better than rockplayer

Today i have a free application to recommend (MoboPlayer) , it's still on beta.
Official website : http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html
Tested this application with a 720p MKV anime and it can play smoothly on it, tried it on rockplayer and it lag like hell.
However I think it's only work on 720p with around 30fps since Sony capped the max fps. Tried it with 24fps video and no problem with it.
It's support almost every type of video files just like rockplayer but have a nicer interface but you have to add the video into it's library in order to read.
Download link extracted from the website: http://update.moboplayer.com/android/release/mobo_1.0.120_v7_neon.apk
Please try it and comment below.
it did not even find my media, while other players did!
Awesome player! Confirmed but not high volume videos.

VITAL player is best
VITAL is better i guess
I have a 200MB .mkv file It plays in VITAL
Laggy in moboplayer/
i`ve tested a file with vital player
720p - 28 minutes - 1GB - mkv file - audio ac3 5.1
the vital player cant play it smooth and correct.
its very laggy. will test the mobo player next...
Now i can uninstall QQPlayer Vplayer nice...
V Player is BEST !!
I use Meridian Player and it seems to play files very smoothly. I shall give this one a shot though.

I´ve tested mobo player now with the same file...
i cant understand why everybody is talking that kind of **** in this thread!?
pls believe me that there is no player for sony x10 which can play "real" 720p files well without async audio and laggy frames.
buy next phone with dualcore and i think its possible...
THE BEST Video player i ever seen for android .... way better than Vplayer's stupid interface ..... thank you very much
I really LOVE MixZing for all my MP3s! Its got a clean, simple, and dark interface. For video I use mVideoPlayer for Anime because its the only one I know that automaticly got subtitles for my episodes.
VitalPlayer I've been using for video, but I don't like how it doesn't have a list of your media like mVideoPlayer.
I'm gonna try this new one and see what I think... the hunt to only use one continues.
Amazing it's the best player to this moment ..
I test a lot of player but this is the best thanks man ...

Which version of Vital Player is for the X10 as our devices are Arm7 but on Market it states that Vital Player Neon is suitable for our X10s, even though that version is suppose to be for Cortex A8 devices only???

Sigh... That's just plain ignorant... The X10 has a hardware decoder that can handle even 1080p without any problems... BUT since it's a hardware decoder, the video stream has to be in a format it understands. In the X10, that means H.263, H.264 and MPEG-4.
Any other codec needs software decoding and for that, there isnt enough CPU power to do at more than ~15fps for 720p. By dropping frames, that wont desync audio but it will be laggy to watch so that statement is just plain wrong. Dualcore also wont change that one bit.
As for container, atleast from what I've seen so far, no third party player has ever handled hardware decoding themself but always relied on the built in videoplayer for that and simply showing the output. That however limits you also to containers that the builtin player understands for this, which is only MP4, AVI and MPG. But that may very well change and if OP states that this player can play 720p MKV files, it may very well be the first player to properly implement calling of the hardware decoder itself. Will be intresting to see.
But please, learn what it is you're bashing before doing it. It saves people from having to come correct your misconceptions about what you're bashing.

read the first post and you can see that he was talking about MKV FILES !!!
But its the same with an 720p avi file... i dont have the chance to test the mp4 at the moment...
everytime i want to play a 720p movie (and not a camera record) its laggy on my x10.
you mean if i rip a movie in the mp4 there would be no problems at all?
Ok, so I just tried this player... and it is super awesome!! Easily the best one I've tried so far! Thanks for sharing!
it took my application sound files and paired it with my audio files. not cool.
Thanks for all your feedbacks. The 720p (1280x720) h264 mkv file that I tried run smoothly on it. As some of you stated it's still lag, therefore i tried a 720p mp4 file and the video is quite smooth however there's lot of distortion in the audio maybe due to the 5 channel audio.
Will try again tommorrow if I have the time.
Anyway one of the good points of this player is
1) Better interface
2) Able to choose dual audio track (English, Japanese) or dual subtitles (English, German etc)
3) Much more smoother than other player
4) More gesture function.
Hope you all can get the best out of this player. Have a nice day.

video player optimized for honeycomb, or just tegra 2 optimized?

Hello guys at xda
This question may have been here before, and if it has here it is again.
Is there a video player that is optimized for honeycomb, or at least a player that take advantage of the tegra 2 cpu?
Otherwise i like to know if there is an video player that support dlna devices, so i can browse the dlna server directly from the video player app it selfs, sonthere is no need for a second app to do that.
Last thing, and i dont know if tisnis redicilus, but is there a player that support iso files an so on ?
Hope you can help le, and sry for my english !

moboplayer is tegra2 optimized now. though be warned, like all other tegra2 players, HD mkv files have issues playing.
http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html
so which codec pack should we use, the NEON?
and what do i do with the .apk file?
sorry, i'm a noob
edit: nvm, took me 2 seconds on google...
Vplayer was updated for tegra or honeycomb I forget which, but it works pretty well for most file types on the eee pad.

As a workaround, if you have firmware update1 installed, it means you have splashtop. Run the file on your pc and stream it via the splashtop app to your tablet. Should be fairly smooth if you have a good wifi connection. Doesnt help if you are nowhere near your pc of course, but good if you want to watch it in bed or something. You can even switch your pc off remotely this way too.
yea, i gave splashtop a try just to see how it works and all, but it's not too useful for me... i'll wait 'til these media players get updated.
I ave tried rock player and mobie player but, they kinda work. Subtitles dont appear while the files plays
my vote goes for moboplayer
i used to use rockplayer, but too many FC's
I love how moboplayer saves where you last left off on multiple videos

Just to be clear about this:
The Tegra2 CPU is a fairly standard dual core ARM v7 core, This is a fine mobile CPU but nothing special and it will _never_ be able to soft-decode HD main profile h.264 video.
However the SOC includes a general purpose GPU that also includes hardware to decode h.264 in an accelerated fashion. This _should_ be able to play 720p main profile and 1080p main with limitations. However the only way to use this acceleration is via the Nvidia OMX plugins that are part of the "StageFright" media system that Honeycomb uses. This system is not exposed to the NDK, and is only available via the MediaPlayer object in java. (It is also limited to baseline profile and under-performing compared to the froyo version for these libs)
The MediaPlayer object is what the default player uses, hence you either use something virtually identical to the default player (With all the limitations it has) or you decode 100% in software (on the CPU not the GPU) and thus can't play HD content due to a lack of horsepower.
Optimising a video player for the Tegra2 CPU will do very little (Like compiling for SSE or 3DNow), perhaps make it a few percent more efficient but nowhere near enough to play HD content.

So...long story short...the GPU can handle 1080/720, but right now players aren't taking advantage of it because the required code/plugins aren't in the NDK. Right now all the players are forced to use software decoding which uses the weaker cpu.
So release the damn plugins!
I'm tired of stuttering video.
Sorry to revive oldish thread... does anyone know if DTS audio is not supported on the TF? I was trying out some sample mkv in 720p and 1080p to see how they looked/sounded. After the 3.1 update the 720p videos are smooth, but I am not getting any audio on the videos in mobo or rock or stock player. In Rockplayer I opened the video with software support instead of hardware and got audio, but mega choppy playback.
Any ideas?
Unfortunately AC3 audio (used in most rips) is not supported by the TF chipset (and the tegra2 chip in general).
This means either fluid video and no audio in hardware mode, or choppy video and out of sync audio in software mode. Very disappointing actually but afraid there aren't any alternatives out there yet.
You'll have to transcode the audio to AAC but that means an extra step in the process. The original galaxy tab seems to play everything, but well... that's not really an option either.

No, that's not what I'm saying. The "plugins" are exposed using StageFright which is used by the standard MediaPlayer object which moboplayer (et al) can and does use but only for the normally supported codecs/containers. There will never be anything better than that.
Any app that "adds" either a container or a codec to Android will be doing it via pure CPU decode, that will _always_ be that case (for the foreseeable future).
That said, the 3.1 update has improved h.264 playback massively, I can play high profile 720p quite nicely now. But if you want MKV container support _and_ h.264 hardware accelerated decoding you'll have to get Google/ASUS to add the MKV container into StageFright at the platform level, no video player app will fix that. (Or wait until we get the platform source, there is already a Matroska container parser in the AOSP repo that could be ported to Honeycomb, hell Matroska parsing is needed for WebM playback and Honeycomb already does that)

Additionally: AC3 is patent encumbered so it costs money to include even if the chip supports it
Honeycomb optimised video player
I have found MX Vidoe Player the best player to use on my Vega running HC 3.2 Build 9n Update 2. Unlike Mobo Player the screen image can be zoomed to any size to fill the screen, not just stretch the image.
Do not know about HD, but depending on your video file resolution the image quality is great.

[Q] cant play some mkv's

Hey there,
I mainly use my tab for videos and ebooks, and i faced problems in running some mkv's.
basically i was trying to play an anime video by coal girls but the player did not play it.
These are 720p videos with flac audio.
Also happens with videos by re-packers like horrible subs and gotwoot...
I know that the tab can play 720p mkv's watched a lot of 720p movies on it flawlessly. But then why does it fail to run these.
P.S. : I also tried mxplayer but it plays the video on s/w decoder and that too very poorly even after enabling multi core decoding for s/w decoder.
Thanks in advance.

well i tried playing some more videos, could'nt play 10 bit-720p-BD-AAC video's as well.. :crying:

I was hoping that someone had experienced it before and tried a custom ffmpeg i.e custom codecs to solve the problem.

Or you can use splashtop 2 (free on market) to stream the video to the tab... Works perfectly for those who don't want to convert tons of videos...
Final conclusion : There seems to be a problem with the native h/w rendering capabilities...so no software can help it..
720p mkv + flac audio or 10 bit 720p videos are not playable natively mostly due to the poor gpu, and poor performance with s/w decoders.
I use BS player. It plays everything, using H/W decoder. Plays local, or off the network.
Use the ARMv7 version, and also download the BS hardware decoder, it is vastly improved over the stock or AOSP one.

Installed bs player free + arm v7 vfp cpu from market, but it still plays the video using s/w decoder with terrible frame rates. Frame dropping option also dosen't help. And when i choose h264 hi10 to be played on h/w decoder , there is black screen with only audio.
Try the sample which i have uploaded in post 3 and post the results. I'm on stock rom so maybe cm/aosp plays it better. If so i may install a custom rom..
not possible to play 10 bit videos at the moment
So i finally dug around the forums myself and realized that there is no android device that can play 10 bit encoded videos at the moment, not even tegra 3.......
source : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425664
At the moment, 10 bit encoding i fairly new and requires much more power than ur 8 bit mkv's which were used to have earlier.
So basically our tab can play 8 bit 1080p videos flawlessly, but fails to do so for a 10 bit 720p video on h/w decoding i.e ur stock samsung player will refuse to play it and all the players that u will try will play it on s/w decoder no matter what u try and yet u'll get very bad frame rates.
SO the solution is to :
1) re encode the videos, which did'nt work for me cuz i lose the subtitles while converting(some error)
2) can stream using splashtop2 ( free in play store) which is okay but need to have very high net speeds..... :/
If u cant play ur vid's properly, first see the details if they are 10 bit or hi10p if yes try the above.
Cheers

Maybe if you reduce video bitrate, it will be playable.
Your only real option, is to reencode the video to a lower bitrate, and/or to a format that's hardware supported by your device. Handbrake is an easy to use reencoder.
Looking at GSMarena http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_200-5536.php it seems your phone should be able to play H.264/AVC format.

As the title "How can I Speed up S/W decoding on LOW-END Device"
I'm using HTC Desire 200 ( 1 GHz Single Core Processor, 512MB(414 actually) RAM)
I want play some 720p video on my phone, tried with few TWEAKS(V6 SuperCharger, Modified Build.prop)
the Video and Audio almost not synced all the time when play with MX player (But I can't find a better player for Android)

First look how much cpu and RAM is consumed. You can use apps like lucky patcher or disable service to dissable unwanted running service, do not move mx player in sdcard, always keep some free space in internal memory, exit apps like viber.... while playing 720p videos in sw mode, do not create lot of widgets. I have same amount of hw in my ray and I can play any types of 720p videos smoothly with sw decoder. MX player uses internal modules so if mx can't play means other apps too cant

I guess I had done this, using greenify to close and make sure no unwanted and unnessccery apps running in background, checked my cpu is running on top speed (overclocking isn't available on my device for now), but still laggy (video and audio not synced)

It's because your cpu can't handle the load.
S/W mode will ffmpeg library & entire decoding will be done on CPU. So, there is no way to fix.
Goto Settings 》 Decoder & enable speed up tricks. It may affect video quality. But, may reduce the lagging.
Using SW, even with speedup tricks, will still drain your battery as your CPU's running at 100%. Reencoding to a HW supported format as I previously suggested, will increase performance and reduce battery drain.

I have a motorola bravo that I bought in 2011 which is almost the same (1ghz TI OMAP, 512mb ram) and when I try playing 720p videos, it is really slow sometimes.
The only way I can play 720p videos, it is reducing bitrate else convert resolution to 480p or lower.
Else change your phone!
@josuearisty 720p at what codec?

Bitrate at 600kb or lower in h264.
There is a converter in the playstore which is really good, maybe the best because its based on ffmpeg and can be used some of original ffmpeg codecs
FFmpeg Media Encoder

If that's an 8-bit 600kbps H.264 video, then your phone probably doesn't support H.264 at a HW level, as hard as that is for me to believe considering the model year

You mean the phone? Hehehe
No man, Motorola Bravo is a backup phone with a good support from devs for custom roms, Quarx is the best.
I have a Razr M and Droid Ultra and they can play even fullHD videos very well.
And Droid Razr for backup too and for playing videos connected to my TV via HDMI. I would like an app to control MX player using other phone, an app with PLAY PAUSE etc support. To connect via wifi or bluetooth. [emoji1] [emoji1] [emoji1] [emoji1] [emoji1]
