I bought my Thunderbolt on launch day and have been waiting patiently for some custom ROM goodness. The one thing I really would like to have now is the Picasa sync in the gallery. I'm not sure if I can just download the 3D gallery apk and install it like any other apk and have it work. Anyone know if this is possible or do I need to root and such now? I was hoping to wait to root till things are a little further along and there were more options for doing so.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You just need the old gallery app thats on the market. Works with that.
I too would like to see some built in support to add Picasa sync to other things as well though. I was upset they pulled it
I just use + Gallery, works great and synced my Picasa albums. Free on market. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tml.media
I have the Picasso for HTC sense sync apk. I will post it when I am back on a PC. It will work natively with gallery. All my pics are on picasa too. Not sure why its not in by default.

Try JustPictures!, best gallery app imo and it syncs everything: Picasa, Flickr, Facebook, SmugMug, ...

I'd like to get a hold of that as well. I'm using a 3d gallery I got from I believe a nexus 1, and it works fine, but I'd like to use the native gallery.
EDIT: here's a link to the gallery I'm using. http://db.tt/zETbnJQ

picasa apk
here you go. this installs fine on the bolt. and works with the native gallery app too. enjoy
I wonder why HTC would leave this feature out? I'm going to try one of the other apps mentioned. I miss my pics!

Is this legitimate? The apk has a lot of permissions.

Not sure there is a good replacement for it, but I agree, the 3D gallery (which is the normal Android gallery BTW) really does suck. Its slow, tries to be overly bling, and can't even show high res images with full detail. As you say, it suffers from bouts of instability too - it force closes on me when I try loads of different wallpapers about one time out of six.

I am coming from a vibrant and I love having access to my picasa web albums in the main phone gallery. I can not find a way to do that on the MT4G. Anyone know if it is possible?
Thanks!

Nope it is not possible out of the box since sense comes with its own gallery app. you have to wait till someone port the Android gallery app for MT4G
its called Gallery3D, its free in the market. works just like the n1
so i updated to the 4.0 leak and so far its been great but the thing that bothered me the most is the crappy EQ that comes built into google music and the fact that samsung is still using the same old crappy gallary from 2.x! so i replaced them with the stock 4.0 gallery and the DSP manager from cm9 and they work perfectly!
just use root explorer to move the 2 .apks to /system/app than reboot
oh and if you want you can disable the samsung gallery so you wont have to deal with that crappy thing
edit: so i couldn't get the stock ics camera working as a system app but you can go ahead and install it as a user app, the only problem i'm having is the video camera crashes a lot
Great thank you, I love the ICS gallery.
I was wondering also if you could find the native ICS camera app , I would love to replace the samsung one.
Thanks again

Just tried out the stock camera from my transformer on cm9 and my skyrocket went black, vibrated a lot and crashed you could try camera ics+ or w/e is called, its in the play store but its a bit laggy on mine
Edit: I'll try and get the camera from my moms atrix on cm9, I'm not giving up that easily!
Thanks, but don't bother I have several camera apps but I saw some picture of the Vanilla ICS camera app and it looked great.
to late lol
thanks, works great (except video). I really don't understand why Samsung is keeping the old version
They did the same thing when they updated the original galaxy s to gingerbread, they're just trying to get use to buy the sgs3 when it comes out :/

Thanks! will test shortly. Update: All seem to work, Some parts of the new camera app I like, others not so much, like I can't disable shutter sounds, or tell it to save to my external SD card, whats up with that? The gallery is alright, they added a nice editor with instagram like effects which is cool and easy sharing. Though they removed the contrast/brightness/saturation sliders, which I liked. Everything seems to be a give and take :/
Edit 2: The new gallery allowed me to make scrolling backgrounds work again! WOOHOO.
Any other apps from ICS worth getting? or ICS specific apps from the market?
also, maybe you'd know, anyway to theme the top notification bar to be blue like standard ICS not white/green like GB?
Can anyone get the mms apk for the messaging app?

I haven't really been working on getting more stock ics apps but I know that the movie editor works and I'm gonna try to get some more apps when I get home, BTW I'm not a themer(yet) so I can't change the status bar :/
How do I get those black and white pictures of random dots to work into something useful?
Hi guys,
I basically just sold me SG S3 and swapped it for the HTC One S, which might I add, was a good decision! I'm by no means a power user and definitely rate the aesthetics and build quality from the One S over the power you get from the S3. Just my preference really.
Anyways. one thing that's bugging me with the One S, which is probably a HTC Sense thing.. But the Gallery app sucks! When using my S£ (and previously my Nexus S), I was able to view Picasa Albums as if they were stored locally. I.e. if I wanted to set a photo somewhere in my Picasa albums as a desktop image, I cannot seem to do it in HTC Sense.
Where as with my old Nexus S and SG S3, I was able to view the photos stored on Picasa as if they were local files and do with them whatever I could do with proper local files.
I can see my Picasa albums, by selecting "Albums" from the top-left dropdown and selecting "Picasa Web Albums", but cannot really do anything with the photos other than view them!
Anyone know why this is/what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
Nik
I was having the same problem, even with the AOSP gallery on CM10 that's supposed to sync with Picasa. I found a version of the AOSP gallery somewhere on XDA that actually works though. Try searching around XDA or the Android Market for ICS gallery or maybe JB gallery or even sideload the gallery from your SGS3 backup if you have it...the version of the Gallery.apk that works for me is 1.1.30682...
So, I've done some research into this and I'm struggling to get any results. I have noticed since installing 5.0 Lollipop, the default 'Gallery' app has disappeared and has instead been replaced with the 'Photos' app which comes built into Google+.
I've personally never found any use or need out of Google+ and always disable the app and the 'Photos' app.
Doing this however, now leaves me without a gallery.
I installed Cyanogen's gallery from the Play Store, but this is not automatically set to a default and so when I'm sharing or sending images, the gallery app to open images does not appear.
When I installed the APK for the KitKat gallery, it embodied itself into the 'Photos' app and when I tried to open it, it crashed because 'Photos' is disabled.
Any ideas?

I'm in the same boat as you. Loved the Gallery app and don't find the Photos app useful at all.
Which Gallery APK did you install? I installed the one from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/themes-apps/app-4-4-apps-hangouts-google-launcher-t2506344
It works, is in the menu prompts (when opening files), etc.
The only thing that doesn't work is the "edit" function since I'm guessing the links the to the built in photo editor are busted with the 5.0 update. So basically if I need to edit a photo I used Photos, but everything else I just use Gallery.

Download default Android 4.4 Gallery from here.
It works just fine in Android 5.0.
