Ive been using SwiftKey for months. Works great for me on CM7.
You have to use it for a while to really see its full potential. It "learns" your typing style and eventually gets to the point where it will almost predict full sentences for you.

Thanks for the heads up, always wanted it, never really felt inclined to buy though!
Just tried it out. Looks like it works just like the GB keyboard.
What's up with the free apps thing?

A quick google search and I found this http://www.geeksaresexy.net/2011/03...ew-android-app-store-with-free-app-every-day/
Amazon has just launched their own Android app store today, a direct competitor of Google’s official Android Market. They are currently offering over 3,800 apps for download which, for the majority, can all be test drived in the browser before purchase. They are also offering one free app every day! For instance, today, they’re giving away Angry Birds Rio, a new physics-based game from Rovio.

Doing it for attention otherwise it would probably fail.
would it be against the rules for someone to post the apk here? since its free. but the amazon appstore is only for US based people.

I agree with this - sometimes when you press the backspace key, it tries to suggest the word again, so instead of getting a backspace, you get the word repeated and I'm just using stock unrooted Sense.

PS: You need the ability to enable unknown sources, hence is not available for AT&T . Since most of the custom roms have it so it works for us.
thanks to all the developers at XDA.
Yeah its only for custom roms and some verizon/tmobile phones.
Its really laggy but worth it for free angry birds

Laggy in what ? I found it pretty smooth.
Has this issue where it asks you to enable one click purchase option and I could not get past that.. but if you purchase it online, and then open the app store on the phone it downloads the apps instantly. I actually found it faster than the market.

At worst they might have to change the name... I don't think they will have to close the store unless google or the carriers decide against it.
Actually better than android market...both amazon web and app version
What is the critique process and security?
Do they check apps like itunes, no check or maybe check like goggle market
Edit: I'm still sticking with android market...I think multiple markets will get confusing....I can imagine the "with amazon app store" phones already ):

i think is the wrong path to go with Android. Its good to have all the same OS but what if BB comes out with their own market (which they will) but then you have a Samsung?
Google should put a stop to this.
FYI: Some of the apps on the Amazon AppStore cost more than they do in the Market.
Sideload Wonder Machine will work on Stock Rooted ROM (Froyo). Use it to install the Amazon App MArket. Then download Rio...it won't install, but you can again use SWM to install the downloaded Rio apk.

Installed without issue on my stock AT&T 2.2. Used AIO Toolbox to enable side loading and I just downloaded using the link and installed. Linked it with my Amazon account (which already has 1-click setup) and downloaded Angry Birds Rio and installed without issue.

It is much easier if you already have an Amazon account established prior to installing their App Store.

Use a test card, Mailinator for an address, and make yourself an account with no real info other than your tn. I didn't try to fake that out, it might work, it might not.
Of course their app store runs on startup, and is required to run the program, meaning I'll finish off Angry Birds Rio in airplane mode then uninstall it all.
And Amazon's interface is pretty bad, especially when you are in catagories. Didn't they test?
Interesting...I was able to install on stock 2.2. I guess since I've rooted and enabled non market apps it was able to do that. Not sure why an Amazon appstore tho..what does it have over the market?
Its great that we can finally have an app store that filters out all the crap in the android market. The one thing I miss the most from iOS is a decent app store with (at the very least) pretty apps. Unfortunately there is just too much low quality stuff meant phones with low res displays.

if you want to have access you have to be rooted with side loading enabled.

Rio is an angry birds game, but it's not a level pack in the sense that the Seasons levels are.
You don't have to be rooted, you just have to take extra steps.
First, sideload the Amazon Appstore .apk.
Then, use the Amazon AppStore to purchase an app (or download a free one). The install from inside of the AppStore will fail.
Then, find the .apk in the cache and sideload it.
I just installed Angry Birds Rio on my stock, non-rooted Inspire.

The average user isn't going to do that though. AT&T shouldn't restrict app loading, period.
Also you will have to do this every time an app updates. MEH

I absolutely agree. This is just the convoluted way for Angry Birds fans to get their latest fix (for free, no less)...
And if it teaches just one more person how to Sideload...
this is great!
Downloaded the app to my inspire and now have a direct link to the app store all the time. Some advantages to being rooted, AT&T cannot tell me what I can load on my phone.Plus I do not have to do a bunch of things to get a app on my phone!!!
damn that sucks
Problem Downloading?
I was having issues downloading the Amazon Appstore this morning...so I downloaded the one below...sideloaded it...and then hit the "Upgrade" option once it was installed...worked like a charm!

I got the App store sideloaded. Downloaded the game (Rio) of course it doesn't install. But then where do I find the game once I plug my Inspire into my computer. Which folder is it under?
Thanks in advance.

The file name does not stand out (on mine, it started with VNZ), but the file has an APK extension and the file date/time should be the time that you completed the download.

Not me. It is clumsy. Go to a catagory, like Utilities. Note half the screen is useless and you can see maybe 3 things at once.
Signing up and getting 1-click (required) turned on was painful.
Worst of all, after faking up some data and downloading Angry Birds Rio, and freezing their auto-starting app store in Titanium Pro, ABR wouldn't run!
Bogus in extremis.
So they have a few extra sorting or filtering options. Big deal. Google's beats Amazon's black & blue.
I downloaded the amazon app store just to get angry birds rio, then uninstalled the app store, and surprise surprise angry birds pops up a message telling me I need to reinstall the app store and log in. That's bogus right there. Both uninstalled. I'll wait until it shows up in the android market. I'm not keeping that piece of crap around just to play angry birds.
I think its a good market alt for non google phones/tablets.

No. I still think Market is better
It has some cool options, but lacks others. Such as uninstalling an app from it. Sure I can do it in adw and whatnot, but thats extra steps that I don't wanna have to take. Plus it counts every download as a "purchase", so I get an email every time I install an app, regardless of whether its paid or free. Theres no notification for the progress of your downloads. It also doesn't automatically open the install dialog if you're not in the app. So I think its got a lot of work before it even comes near the performance of the android market.
amazon is crap. ;D
App loves to run in the background ..... crappy.

Thanks for the review. Very useful for those of us debating whether to try it or not. Personally i don't see the need for having more than one Market. Exclusivity deals will lead to fragmentation and i would rather see everything in one place.

Woot, Woot!
This is a good thing. The G tablet went from a aftethought to maybe the most popular non ipad tablet in a matter of a week.
On a side note. my woot G tablet came with stock 2.2. Angry Birds and a few other apps . You could access the dashboard but it always started on stock 2.2 then I did the update and it went to the dashboard and angry birds ( and some of the other Apps ) was gone. Strange. Had to go to viewsonics website to put Angry Birds back on. ALmost like these were refurbs that were never updated. Mines working fine and I love it , just something I noticed.

RE: over capacity
XDA recently migrated to new servers powerful enough to make Bill Gates drool. Unfortunately, with all the new power comes immense tweaking to the SQL databases, and until our server admin finds the sweet spot, these may happen on occasion.
Rest assured that every error generates a notification, and he acts as quick as possible.

Please educate me!!! Who are wooters? Why have they brought xda-developers site to this unprecedented 'over-capacity?'
Definitely more laggy
The site's definitely more laggy over the last day or so....
To me, the sad part is that because ViewSonic has effectively taken a pass on gTab support, virtually the entire customer support load has landed on the XDA site and the generosity of its devs and user community.
If there were such a thing as corporate shame, ViewSonic should be feeling it.
